Nederland stuurt toch geen deelnemer naar het Eurovisie Songfestival. Dat heeft de NPO bekendgemaakt na overleg met omroepen. Volgens de NPO is er "onvoldoende draagvlak" om volgend jaar mee te doen aan het liedjesfestijn. De NPO wil alleen artiesten naar het songfestival sturen als zij de volle steun kunnen krijgen van een of meerdere omroepen. Volgens de eerste exitpolls krijgt de Likud-partij van premier Netanyahu 24 zetels en blijft daarmee de grootste partij. Het zou wel een verlies van 8 zetels zijn. Het anti-Netanyahu-blok van oud-legerchef Gadi Eisenkot zou groter zijn geworden dan het pro-Netanyahu-blok: 52 om 50 zetels, volgens de exitpolls. Dat is allebei niet genoeg voor een meerderheid in het parlement. Daarvoor zijn meer dan 60 zetels nodig. De twee blokken met Arabische partijen hebben volgens de exitpolls samen 18 zetels behaald, een record. Postmodernism applied the principles of reason to uncover flaws in every outlook, including its own. At a personal level, Cornell studies show that simply writing out reasons for our beliefs weakens rather than strengthens our attachment to them. Should we see reason as a double-edged sword, refining our theories but also undermining them and making society inherently unstable? Do we need to guard against the disruptive power of reason with foundations built on authority, tradition, or religion? A court in Cairo on Tuesday ordered the closure of the independent Egyptian news site Mada Masr and the detention of editor-in-chief Lina Attalah. De organisatie van het buurthuis Parknest in het Flevopark, dat deze zomer afbrandde, is bezig een nieuw onderkomen te realiseren. Tot nu toe bivakkeren ze dagelijks in een tent, maar met de winter op komst is een vast gebouw nodig. Ze zijn daarom een crowdfunding begonnen. Maar of ze een vergunning krijgen voor een nieuw buurthuis is nog maar de vraag. "Dit is onze alternatieve behuizing nadat Parknest is afgebrand." Buurtbewoner Dirk Zaal laat trots de geïmproviseerde tent zien waar elke dag omwonenden van het Flevopark langskomen voor een praatje, een kopje koffie en voor wie wil een taartje of broodje. "Ik kom hier wel twee, soms drie keer per dag", vertelt een mevrouw in een scootmobiel. "En ook mensen van woonzorgcentrum het Flevohuis hier om de hoek komen hier, die zijn vaak alleen. En dan hebben ze toch een praatje." Een andere dame op leeftijd vertelt dat naast de gezelligheid, ook de betaalbaarheid belangrijk voor haar is. "Bij een gewoon café heb ik altijd het idee dat ik steeds iets moet bestellen en anders weg moet", zegt ze. "Hier is dat niet. Alleen het wordt nu erg koud zo in de tent. Voorheen zaten we lekker warm in het gebouwtje, en dat scheelt me thuis ook stookkosten." Voorheen rond deze tijd van het jaar zaten de bezoekers lekker warm bij een open haard van Parknest. Dat buurthuis was gehuisvest in het voormalige cafeetje naast de speeltuin, dat Dirk Zaal in 2023 met een aantal bewoners kraakte. Maar een brand in de nacht van 20 op 21 augustus dit jaar verwoeste het hele gebouw. Alleen het terrasmeubilair viel nog te redden. Zaal: "We wilden gelijk doorgaan met het buurthuis, en een simpel zeiltje was zo al snel gehangen. En het wordt gelukkig gedoogd door Stadsdeel Oost" Maar met de winter op komst moeten ze er ermee stoppen op deze manier. Het wordt te koud en te nat. Er dus is er een nieuw gebouw nodig om Parknest voort te zetten. Maar een vergunning daarvoor is niet een-twee-drie geregeld. Zaal: "We zijn in gesprek met de afdeling vergunningen van het stadsdeel en ook de gebiedsmakelaar denkt met ons mee, maar tot nu toe hebben geen vergunning." Zaal en de 30 vrijwilligers van Parknest zitten ondertussen niet stil. Een crowdfundingsactie heeft tot nu toe 65.000 euro opgebracht. "We willen zo snel mogelijk een tijdelijk gebouw, een soort portakabin met houten wanden. En dat kan van dat geld. Alleen de vergunning om het te mogen plaatsen hebben we nog niet." Het stadsdeel zegt te onderzoeken wat de mogelijkheden voor Parknest zijn. "Er moet eerst worden vastgesteld wat juridisch haalbaar is", laat een woordvoerder weten.
