Zeker in crisistijd.

I wanted to experiment with a LIDAR unit so I thought I'd make a robot that can look for objects and shoot them with NERF Blasters. I'm using an RPLidar A1 and just processing the data on an Arduino MEGA. It's a lot like having a 360' array of range finders but being able to pick out any angle to get the data. The robot looks at the average distance in 360 10' segments, bookmarks the value, and then looks for any change - objects coming closer in any segment. If any objects are detected it turns to that segment using wheel encoders for positing and shoots the target. I'd like to give it the ability to roam around looking for specific objects using the Jetson Nano for object recognition. The coronavirus crisis is revealing that the powers that be of the European Union have learned nothing from the Eurocrisis. They are currently betraying the interests of the majority of Europeans in the same way that they have done so in 2010 -- by failing to mobilize existing money and public financial instruments in the interests of the many. With their current decisions, they are jeopardizing public health, public goods and the interests of Europeans. We call it TV because we like retro-futurism. But it's much more than TV. Today we're unboxing some aftermarket forged connecting rods that will become an integral part of my turbo Toyota 4afe engine build that I'm calling project underdog. Although these are budget rods by a company called MaXpeedingRods and have a price that seems to good to be true, I think these are actually good rods, perfectly adequate for high horsepower forced induction builds. They're made from 4340 steel and feature ARP 2000 bolts. They're drop forged at high temps, cnc machined and then multi-stage heat treated, x-rayed, sonic tested, magnafluxed and shot peened. Watch the video to see the unboxing as well as other features of the rods. A special thank you to my patrons: Daniel Peter Della Flora #d4a #forgedrods #MaxPeedingRods

A) I was initially going to call them that, but I had a vague feeling that name might not be factually correct. I checked and apparently a piano like a Yamaha Disklavier is not a ‘Player Piano’. It seems that ‘Player Pianos’ require a degree of continuous human manipulation to play - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_piano So this toy isn’t technically a ‘player piano’ it’s more like a mini ‘Reproducing Piano’. However since that’s a term unfamiliar to most people (myself included) I chose to substitute the more easily understandable ‘self-playing piano’ instead. This is one of those ones where you can’t win for losing. Use the commonly used term and its wrong, use the correct term and no one knows what you’re talking about. (insert random guess here, probably something about power supplies) A) I tried four different power supplies and various 3.5mm patch leads, also tried ferrite cores on the power and line out wires - also played it out in the garden to see if it was anything to do with wireless electrical interference. The noise persisted. The long and short of it is that it’s just a bit knackered. The audio issue is present on the internal speaker too, but to a lesser degree. It isn’t present on manually played piano audio - just during automatic playback, both internal and from SD. It’s just some dodgy components in the player circuitry that are on their way out after thirteen years, probably surface mount capacitors. Yes they shouldn’t be, but they are, stuff happens. This should be considered a warning to anyone thinking of buying one of these as this might well be a common problem. Q) It’s from Sega Toys not Sega A) Yep Q) Why didn’t you play (insert song here) A) Unfortunately it’s not practical to play every song in a quick video Q) Why didn’t you show the internals A) I didn’t want to break it - but you can see them here: http://www.nax.ne.jp/~rider/piano/index.html (It looks much how you’d imagine - a load of electromagnets and a circuit board). ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM ------AFFILIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE------- All links are Affiliated where possible. Lyrics were later added by Johnny Burke. "Misty" rapidly became popular, both as a jazz standard and as the signature song of Johnny Mathis. It was also recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ray Stevens and Aretha Franklin. Clint Eastwood used it as the basis for his thriller Play Misty For Me. Subscribe to Nuclear Vault http://bit.ly/SubscribeNuclearVault This video describes the rigorous yearly proficiency inspections that Army nuclear weapon personnel were subjected to by teams from the Office of the Inspector General (IG). The Army stated that the efficiency of nuclear weapons maintenance specialists is vital to the overall effectiveness of the readiness effort for nuclear deterrence. Cold War era weapons such as the Honest John and Nike Hercules missiles and a Mark 33 8-inch nuclear artillery projectile are featured in inspection scenarios. Rare footage of the Atomic Demolition Munition and the Davey Crockett missile can be seen in short vignettes. The video shows graphically how flaws in the weapon hardware could cause the missile to become unreliable. The Army unit flunks the inspection and receives an unsatisfactory rating. The unit commander directs his personnel to correct the deficiencies, and he is reminded to stay in constant contact with all members of his technical teams. Because of attrition, the IG’s representative suggests that the commander retain those who are trained and are serious about making nuclear weapons handling a career choice. 1963 Sanitized 23:50
The NYSE is one of the few exchanges to still feature open outcry floor trading - most have shifted to fully-electronic or algorithmic trading. Financial markets have continued to trade throughout the 2020 lockdown, but the exchange's trading floor was closed from 23 March and activity temporarily moved to fully-electronic trading to protect workers. Now it has reopened, but with new social distancing rules, today the exchange looks and feels very different. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was on hand to ring the bell that re-started in-person trade, a sign of the symbolic weight attached to the reopening. Todays video looks at two academic papers with contrasting views as to if pit trading still makes sense in 2020 or are exchanges more efficient when fully electronic? "Vestigial Tails: Floor Brokers at the Close in Modern Electronic Markets,” by Edwin Hu and Dermot Murphy, found that NYSE’s crucial 4 p.m. auctions, which determine end-of-day prices for thousands of stocks, ran more smoothly after the Big Board closed its floor. NYSE of course has questioned the study’s conclusions. A second study by Brogaard, Ringgenberg and Rösch argued that markets got worse without floor traders. Using a difference-in-differences analysis, they argue that floor traders are important contributors to market quality, even in the age of algorithmic trading. The suspension of floor trading leads to higher effective spreads, volatility, and pricing errors. Correction: At 1:30 mins, it should have been "Bohm" not "Bohr". Sorry about that. Locality means that to get from one point to another you somehow have to make a connection in space between these points. You cannot suddenly disappear and reappear elsewhere. At least that was Einstein’s idea. In quantum mechanics it’s more difficult. Just exactly how quantum mechanics is and is not local, that’s what I explain in this video. Today I've finally answered a question that's bothered me for a long time - if you've ever used a soldering iron, it FEELS like the smoke is ALWAYS blowing directly towards your face, but for years I wrote it off as confirmation bias. It's not. There's a real physical reason the smoke is funneled annoyingly towards your eyeballs, and in this video, aided by a plane laser and a smoke machine, I figure it out! CORRECTIONS: 1: Safety! Turns out mineral oil smoke CAN be toxic and produce Lipoid Pneumonia, thanks to Cheetah Spottycat below for pointing this out. I chose it initially because the internet told me it wouldn't leave residue all over my garage, but I cannot endorse it as a try-this-at-home technique! Noam Chomsky on how to counter the reactionary international with a Progressive International. The Progressive International is a global initiative to unite, organise, and mobilise progressive forces around the world. In December 2018, the Democracy in Europe Movement (DiEM25) and the Sanders Institute issued an open call to form a common front in the fight for democracy, sustainability, and justice. “It is time for progressives of the world to unite.” The Progressive International takes up that call. The PI is a coordinating institution for the world’s progressive forces, with a mission to make solidarity more than a slogan. What did people do when the Roman empire fell apart around them? Recent scholarship, based on new archeological discoveries and techniques, argues that in the "dark" centuries between 450 and 750 AD, the people of western Europe, from conquering kings to ordinary peasants, improvised new political alliances, maintained law and order, improved the productivity of their land, and invented new crafts and art forms, building a resilient and inventive society on the foundations (often literally) of the old. How Negative Interest Rates Work, and What They Would Mean for the Economy. Negative Interest Rates Explained. Buy The Book Here: https://amzn.to/2J2kF3A Visit our website: www.onfinance.org Follow Patrick on Twitter Here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle What are Negative Interest Rates and How Do They Work? Welcome back to Patrick Boyle on Finance. In today’s video we are going to learn about Negative Interest Rates which have been all over the news recently. U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the Federal Reserve should bring interest rates below zero... but what does that even mean? Will you be paid for taking out a loan? We'll answer these questions and more. Today we will discuss how negative interest rates work, where have they been implemented, how they would affect savers and borrowers, what are the side effects of negative rates, and if you stay tuned to the end I will tell you the six ways University of Chicago Finance Professor John Cochrane to effectively earn an interest rate of zero even if paper currency, along with money in the bank is earning a negative interest rate. Countries around the world are taking all sorts of extreme measures to keep their economies afloat during the coronavirus pandemic. I put up a video a few weeks ago on which country is spending the most in terms of GDP in these efforts. The US Federal Reserve has already cut the federal funds rate twice in 2020, and there's debate amongst some, about whether the agency should lower rates again. Right now, the US federal funds target rate is 0% to 0.25%. If the Fed lowered rates again to help the US economy, rates would drop below zero. Negative interest rates are controversial, but countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark and Japan have already implemented this approach. What are Negative Interest Rates and How Do They Work? Albert Einstein once called compound interest the eighth wonder of the world, adding, “He who understands it, earns it... he who doesn’t... pays it.” But at negative interest rates money saved today would instead be worth less every day going forward. To better understand negative interest rates, it’s helpful to start by looking at the historical background. During the global financial crisis of 2007–2009, central banks decided to lower interest rates as close to zero as possible. Economies around the world began to recover but at only at a slow pace so the central banks chose to keep rates low, in the hope that individuals and businesses would be encouraged to borrow more, increase spending, stimulate economic activity, and create jobs. At zero percent, borrowing and spending remained sluggish, and nations were worried about deflation. So central banks introduced an arsenal of unconventional monetary policy measures in order to stimulate real growth and prevent deflation. They included central bank purchases of increasingly risky assets, forward guidance, and negative interest rates. Negative Interest Rates Explained.
