This is a short video of our trip that lasted for hours into the labyrinth section of petty johns cave on pigeon mountain in north Georgia. It's down in the water tunnels and turns into a connecting maze full of weird features. It was too big for us to explore so we will eventually come back. music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de6xhLYLp5w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWuwreQg1IA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUb-9wuU-7M

what is up engine heads, for today's episode of engine boot camp we're in the the garage because I want to talk about differences between advertised and real camshaft duration. D4A merch: https://teespring.com/en-GB/d4a-merch Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/d4a As you probably know, the two key attributes of every camshaft are camshaft lift and camshaft duration. Camshaft Lift determines how much a valve is open, and is expressed as the maximum distance of the away from the seat reached by the valve during engine operation On the other hand camshaft duration determines how long the valve is off the seat, that is how long the valve remains open, and this is expressed in degrees of crankshaft rotation. There's nothing deceiving when it comes to lift values. The valve opens this many mm and that's your valve lift, and that's pretty much it. It's always just one simple number and it is impossible to misrepresent anything when it comes to camshaft lift. On the other hand camshaft duration values can be pretty tricky or even deceiving and to understand why this is the case we first have to understand how is camshaft duration measured. The starting point for the measuring of the duration is when the valve gets off the seat, and the end point for measuring duration is when the valve returns to the seat. Now camshaft duration is actually expressed in degrees of crankshaft rotation. Our example intake camshaft has a duration of 240 degrees, so what does this mean? It simply means that the intake valves of any particular cylinder in this engine are open for 240 degrees out of the 360 degrees of the crankshaft's full single rotation. Simple right? Well not really, because this raises an important new question: at what exact amount of valve lift do we actually start measuring duration. Is it when the valve is 1 mm of it's seat? Or maybe 0.5mm off the seat? Or maybe we should measure in inches and talk about 0.05 inches or 0.006 inches from the valve seat? Does it even matter? Well, it definitely matters, because the starting valve lift has great impact on the final camshaft duration value. It may seem that the difference between 0.1 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm of valve lift is negligible for duration, but it's really not and has a very significant impact. For example this particular camshaft, which is an OEM Toyota 4AGE 16v bigport camshaft, has 240 degrees of duration when you start measuring duration at 0.1mm or 0.003 inches of valve lift, on the other hand it only has 204 degrees of rotation when you start measuring at 1.2mm lift off the seat or 0.05 inches. That's a difference of 34 degrees, which is very significant when it comes to camshaft duration. Often duration numbers are thrown around the internet and forums are stated simply in degrees of duration, without the valve lift point at which duration was measured. And this can make it very difficult or even impossible in some cases to compare different camshafts when looking for an upgrade for your engine. If all you have is the advertised duration it's almost like having nothing, because you have no idea where that duration value comes from, and what might seem like comparing two camshafts, one with higher and one with lower duration might in fact be completely misleading, the long duration cam, could very well be the one with shorter duration. So what's the key takeaway here? Well it's very simple, you need to know at which lift point duration is measured so you can actually compare different camshafts, otherwise you're a bit in the dark as advertised duration can be misleading so the next time some dude on the forums or a Facebook group tries to sell you an aggressive long duration camshaft make sure to ask him about that lift point. A very special thank you to my Patron: Daniel driving 4 answers is part of the Amazon Associates program. #d4a #enginebootcamp #camshaft
The Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2020 was a bit different to usual this year. The Berkshire Annual meeting is often referred to as the Woodstock for Capitalists. The experience goes beyond sitting in an arena and listening to Buffett and co-chairman Charlie Munger riff on the latest goings-on with the company, the stock market, the global economy, and even popular culture. It's a multiday event that gives anyone who attends a new perspective on just how large the Berkshire empire has become and what it means to the company's shareholders. A range of Berkshire-owned businesses usually fill the exhibit hall and offer discounts. With items from See's candy and Borsheims jewelry to the furnishings of the Nebraska Furniture Mart, kitchen accessories from Pampered Chef, and private aviation services from NetJets, just about everyone will be able to find something to check off their shopping lists. This year the event was entirely online with Just Warren Buffett and Greg Abel, vice chairman of non-insurance operations present. The event was livestreamed by Yahoo Finance. Berkshire's chairman and CEO had plenty to say, answering questions compiled by well-known financial journalists and addressing some of the most important issues that Buffett's followers have had on their minds lately. Buffet spoke for a long time about American history and how it is always smart to bet on human progress. He would not say much about how the coronavirus might harm business conditions in the medium term. In early April, Berkshire sold substantial amounts of its holdings in Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines, with disclosures necessary because of Berkshire's having held more than 10% of the two airlines' outstanding shares. At the time, it seemed as though Buffett might simply be reducing its positions below 10% to avoid future complications. However, Buffett reported selling a total of $6.5 billion in stock during April, far more than the Delta and Southwest sales that had been reported and also including shares of United Airlines Holdings and American Airlines Group as well. Buffett did not blame airline CEOs, who managed their companies well and did a lot of things right. However, he no longer feels that airlines will ever recover to their pre-coronavirus levels, and even two to three years from now, it's possible that not nearly as many people will be flying. Buffett tried to be optimistic but made many references to some of the worst times in American History. He argued in favor of long term stock ownership, but avoided making any short or medium term positive statements. Check out my other video uploaded this morning where I outlined the contents of the Berkshire Hathaway annual report and discussed the Buffett Indicator and value investing. https://youtu.be/98KmPmczJ5Y Buy Patrick's Book Here: https://amzn.to/2J2kF3A Visit our website: http://onfinance.org Follow Patrick on Twitter Here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle
This is the start of making the generator, I expect this is the first off two or three, as there is quite a lot of work involved
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway slumps to $50bn loss, their largest quarterly loss ever. The stock market sell-off hurt investment holdings despite an uptick in operating profit. Warren Buffett, one of history’s greatest investors, has not been immune to the rough recent market environment. Today's video is about Buffett's quarterly report Q1 2020 or 10-Q released May 2, 2020, and what it tells us about investing in these uncertain times. Berkshire Class A shares were down around 19% YTD as of Friday afternoon May 1, 2020, off 16% over the past 12 months. The S&P 500 is down 3% over the same period. The Berkshire Hathaway 2020 Annual Meeting goes live on the internet this afternoon. This video gives a preview of some of the topics likely to be discussed. Buffett recently called oil volatility and the panic hitting markets a “big one-two punch.” The COVID-19 pandemic will likely be the largest event in insurance-industry history because it affects both sides of the balance sheet. How will this affect Berkshire Hathaway? Auto insurers, such as Berkshire’s Geico, have returned some premiums to consumers as driving decreases, which could translate into fewer accidents. The industry may also see potential claims from business interruptions, canceled events, and workers’ compensation claims. The COVID-19 lockdown has not been kind to value portfolios, value stocks today are highly economically sensitive and levered. By contrast, growth stocks had limited leverage coming into this crisis and software-based business models better suited to the economy effectively closing. Buffett highlighted that many of the biggest tech stocks in the S&P don’t really require capital. Value often performs best coming out of a recession, and for that reason everyone wants to know when will Buffett start deploying Berkshire's 128 billion dollar cash position. Charlie Munger told The Wall Street Journal last month that Berkshire would likely close some of its smaller holdings as a result of the pandemic but didn’t specify which specific businesses would be affected. Investors are eager to find out. Berkshire sold off sizeable stakes in Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines as the coronavirus battered the travel industry. Buffett has stated that he constantly seeks to buy businesses that meet three criteria. 1. First, they must earn good returns on the net tangible capital required in their operation. 2. Second, they must be run by able and honest managers. 3. Finally, they must be available at a sensible price. When Warren Buffett, the Oracle of Omaha speaks, investors from around the world listen. If Warren Buffett has any words of comfort or warning for stock-market investors, they will hear them later today. The Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting which last year drew over 40,000 attendees will be streamed live online at 3PM central time. We are launching a series of calls to help us reinforce a coordinated DiEM25 narrative about where Europe and its nations are right now politically, economically, socially, and our movement’s role is in these historic times. All calls will be conducted as teleconferences, with coordinators (NCs, EWs or DSCs where the former do not exist) as panellists, and all other DiEMers as participants (with the right to ask questions, but not participate in the discussion). Participants can also come from other countries. The duration of the calls will be 2 hours each. From the side of the CC, in each call, there will be 4 members participating, two men (Yanis being one) and two women. One of the four will also be the moderator of the discussion, taking questions from the observers and facilitating the discussion among the “panellists”. All interventions from panellists must not exceed two minutes, so as to allow everyone the same space to express themselves. MadRasana Gridlock Series - Ramana Balachandhran presents "SomeMukhapriya" a piece composed by him inspired by the works of Jacob Collier. He has attempted to bring in various shades of the raga Shanmukhapriya. He recorded the whole piece using a phone and an audio recorder he had at home during the COVID-19 lockdown. This is by far the toughest song we have brought out as part of Gridlock series. Hope you enjoy it and please do share the video if you like what he has attempted here. The Hamrin Mountains are a known Daesh safe haven with intricate tunnel and cave systems used to smuggle weapons, facilitate senior leader movements and plot terrorist attacks in the region. Daesh senior leaders and their operatives have used the rugged mountains as one of their last remaining operating areas in Iraq. “The presence of Daesh in Iraq continues to diminish, thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of our Iraqi partner forces,” said Maj Gen. Eric Hill, commanding general, Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. “Strikes like these help our Iraqi partners maintain relentless pressure on the Daesh scourge, no matter where these terrorists hide.” Removing Daesh fighters and mid-level operatives from the battlefield further degrades their ability to resurge and plot terrorist attacks against innocent civilians, our Iraqi partners, and Coalition troops. The airstrikes were conducted in coordination with the Government of Iraq. After the strikes, the 14th Iraqi Army Division and security forces found ISIS documents, electronic devices, and fragments of weapons and other equipment. The ground search continues; much of the cave complex is inaccessible, post-strike. Initial estimates are 5-10 Daesh fighters were killed; this number may be revised based on follow-on searches. The Coalition and Iraqi security partners will continue to target and pursue Daesh fighters across Iraq. The Coalition and our partners remain committed to the defeat of ISIS in Iraq. After emerging in the Near East, it spread across North Africa and into Europe in such a short time that there was originally no art. In more settled times, highly decorated mosques began to be built based on the prophet Mohammad's own home. Their architectural and scientific achievements, including the mapping of the stars, dwarfed anything existing in the western world. Januszczak visits the Dome of the Rock, desert palaces forgotten by modern Islam with their more sensual artwork, the Mosque of Ibn Tulun where it was believed Noah's Ark landed, and the Mosque of Cordoba. He identifies the Nilometer used to measure the flood of the Nile and uses an astrolabe that Muslims used to find the direction of Mecca. Perspective is YouTube's home for the arts. Januszczak shows the Viking skill in making ships and their attacks on Christian centres such as Lindisfarne not only to loot but to defend their own Norse gods. He visits the Jelling stones that commemorated the Danes' conversion to Christianity. Charles Martel and the Franks belief they were God's chosen people after the defeat of Muslim forces later led to Charlemagne being declared Holy Roman Emperor by the Pope and the creation of the largest empire since the Romans. Januszczak considers Charlemagne's Palatine Chapel, Aachen, as a brutal and cold attempt to copy the Muslim Mosque of Cordoba. Anglo-Saxon art is represented by the Sutton Hoo hoard. Januszczak concludes that in the Dark Ages it was not the sword but the written word, whether in wood, stone, or what he considers the greatest masterpiece of all art, the Lindisfarne Gospels, that defined the age. Early Christians had no art but practised in secret and Januszczak purports the Rotas Square found throughout the Roman Empire such as at Pompeii were early Christian symbols along with the fish and anchor. With no description of Jesus in the Bible, the Christians represented their God as a young slightly feminine man until the emergence of Saint Mary and with the adoption of Christianity by the emperor Constantine how Christian artists drew on images of ancient gods for inspiration for a more masculine Jesus and the development of new forms of architecture to contain their art. In this uplifting one-off documentary, the composer and musician James McConnel examines music’s extraordinary transformative power, as he unites ten classical musicians whose lives have all been blighted by addiction, in an orchestra for a spectacular one-off performance with the London Symphony Orchestra. Each musician is trying to break free from addiction: some have been sober for years, some for only a few months. As a musician, composer and recovering alcoholic himself, James has found that music became a huge part of his recovery and he wants to share this with others in a similar position. James beat his own addiction as a young man. But twenty years after he stopped drinking his teenage son Freddy became addicted to drugs. Tragically, Freddy died of a heroin overdose aged just 18 years old. His death is the catalyst for James’s commitment to the project: They have only 8 weeks to overcome their musical demons. Can they conquer the fear of performing that for many was the cause of their addiction, to pull off a performance alongside some of the world leading musicians? The scientific method is only a few hundred years old. This continues to amaze me. It seems so obvious, now, that you should go and test your theories and, if necessary, revise them. But for much of human history, coming up with a “theory” was all about story-telling and sense-making, not about making quantitatively accurate predictions. Then again, the scientific method is not set in stone. Scientists and philosophers both are still trying to understand just how to identify the best hypothesis or when to discard one. This is not as trivial as it sounds, and this difficulty is well illustrated by the Raven Paradox, put forward by the German philosopher Carl Gustav Hempel in the 1940s.
