For this project I got the chance to show off one of my favorite tools from work, the Focused Ion Beam! In this video, I use the FIB to 3d print and etch away material at the nanoscale, making a youtube play button that's only 1 hundredth of a millimeter across. It's made of an amorphous mix of platinum and carbon, and it's so small you need an electron microscope to see it properly. Enjoy! Also: Thanks to all my subscribers! Also also: Leave comments for new fabrication techniques for the 2^13 button! Also also also: I started a Facebook page for AlphaPhoenix! Follow the page and share with your friends! https://www.facebook.com/AlphaPhoenixChannel/ That was a lot of exclamation marks… - here's the extra stuff: #WorldRecord #Nanoscale #Microscope Filmed in the Materials department at UCSB with permission. ... that's according to CNet at least, who put it in their top 10 greatest defunct Web sites and dotcom disasters all time. That's not how I arrived here though; I actually stumbled across a news article on Beenz.com whilst flicking through a stack of Computer Active! magazines. Several fascinating rabbit holes followed which apparently led to a script, and then this video... So, let's see whether Beenz was really a dot com disaster or just a misunderstood platform, launched at the wrong time. I mean, take Bitcoin, well that turned to out be a hit didn't it? But digital currencies weren't so popular back in the youthful days of the internet. Beenz was one of these so called digital currencies, launching at the height of the .com bubble, and although it's very different to Bitcoin, it still had lofty goals, an excellent management team at the helm and a lot of real world money to try and make it a currency to dominate the internet. Of course, if you look closer, it looks more like a points, or rewards scheme than anything dramatic, but marketing is a wonderful thing, as is the internet. ** For exclusive videos, mystery boxes and other rewards, please consider supporting me at; https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd ** ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! This is part of my Performance Robots series. This time I'm building a puppeteering rig so that I can capture their motion, and operate the robots through their full range of motion manually. This should allow me to record, edit, and playback sequences of motions and make those part of scripted shows. Alternatively we can use the robots for remote operation and a challenges because there are two of them. I'm building some robust robot torsos that I can use as a basis for lots of YouTube performances and events. The robots will be reliable, agile, robust, and transportable. These robots are controlled by DMX which makes them accessible to off the shelf software, and as such the puppeteering rigs are DMX controllers. You can get all the CAD and code from: https://github.com/XRobots/PerformanceRobots ① HARDWARE/SOFTWARE What more important hardware is there in life than the clothes on your back and the cup in your hand. Connecting Pentatonic Boxes - Here are a few simple exercises that will help you with connecting pentatonic patterns all over the neck. While the three exercises I show, focus on connecting pentatonic scale patterns, this approach can be used for any scale that you're currently trying to learn.
Roman curator Ross Thomas takes a look at two very different kinds of objects. Together, they tell a much fuller story of the tragic Third Jewish Revolt than either could do in isolation. Please be aware there are brief, but frequent references to religious persecution throughout this video. #CuratorsCorner #JewishHistory #RomanHistory
Looking at a couple of music releases on Computer/Game Cartridges DUB CRT - https://datadoor.net/dubcrt/ Technoptimistic - https://remute.bandcamp.com/album/technoptimistic You can listen to the DUB CRT tracks (and watch the videos) here: https://datadoor.bandcamp.com/album/dubcrt/ With regard to my request at the end - there have been lots of suggestions of ‘you could do something I suppose with a Raspberry Pi’ also many have sent me the results of their google search - that’s something I’ve already tried over the years. A search of what exists already brings up expensive devices from Critter & Guitari (all their analog devices are discontinued) - they just do HDMI now and their range wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. A search also brings up some old abandoned projects. One of the Patrons to the channel is trying to build one of these now so it will be interesting to see how that goes. There have been a few people mentioning £800 video performance devices - No. I’m thinking £50ish (that seems plenty - given the current cost of Pi type power) - I’m not looking public performance, no knob twiddling or button pushing to change the output. I’d want something that you’d just turn on and it would cycle through it’s display modes. So just to recap the idea - I mentioned the Atari Video music as it’s a consumer device that takes audio in and outputs video. However it’s not perfect it’s 40-odd years old and I already own one - that was just a base point to explain the concept of the idea. Imagine today’s cheap compact computing power being put to the same purpose. Imagine a box that can take in audio and output a Milkdrop style visualiser. You’ll see lots of people mentioning old consoles too - those get their audio from their built in CD player, they are also large and require wall power. So summary.. 2019 low power cheap tech in a box - audio in - video out - proper visualiser, like Milkdrop or ITunes Visualiser not just some glitchy random nonsense - when it’s on its on and working straight away. No keyboard, configuration, messing about with settings - a Visualiser in a box. Yes it doesn’t exist and that’s why I suggested it. You won’t find this with a google search - it wasn’t a request for someone to do google search for me - it was a suggestion of an idea for anyone with time on their hands to explore. I’m not a techy - loads of people out there are and there’s probably one who’s sat on their hands not knowing what project to start work on next and perhaps this will be the idea that sparks something. ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------Merchandise----------------- (New items added) https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM

We are also making changes on our ignition map and seeing whether Perfexpert can detect the changes in horsepower and torque and prove itself as a useful dyno tuning instrument. The dyno test with a real dyno and Perfexpert have been done on the same day under very similar weather, pressure and humidity conditions. I have done three runs with perfexpert upon sucessful calibration just like with the real dyno. After this I made changes on my ignition map which know result in a horsepower loss of exactly 8 hp and test to see whether Perfexpert can detect the same hp loss. #d4a #perfexpert #dyno #bikecarbconversion #throttlecable #bikecarb4age #bikecarbsoncars #throttle #4age #4age16v #aw11 #ae86 #4agebigport #mr2mk1 #mr2 #toyota #jdm #celica #corolla #starlet #ke70 #fx16

Ya like jazz? You will! There are 7 levels of Jazz Harmony, and we'll explore each of them through reharmonizing the chorus of one of my favorite tunes from 2019 - Lizzo's Juice. Thanks to Jae Soto for singing! OUTRO TRACK (Dilla Beat + Intonalist Harmony) https://adamneelymusic.bandcamp.com/track/it-aint-my-fault Level 1 - "Bell Pepper" - II-V’s and other basic tonal movements Level 2 - "Poblano Pepper" - Sub V’s and other stuff Level 3 - "Jalepeño Pepper" - Crazy chromatic extensions Level 4 - "Piri Piri Pepper"- Constant Structures and Pedal Point Level 5 - "Habenero Pepper"- Free non-functional harmony Level 6 - "Ghost Pepper"- Liberated Dissonance Level 7 - "???" - Xenharmony These 7 levels aren't meant to be exhaustive in terms of the harmonic techniques of jazz musicians - there really are way too many to get into for a single YouTube video - but they can be useful as a general guide to the FEELING of different kinds of harmonic ideas. As an added bonus, they're roughly in chronological order in terms of when each level occurred on the timeline of jazz history, although no single musician was ever working so formally. How to make a solid wood toolbox with a reversible lid that doubles as storage. This is a simple and easy project for woodworkers. This beautiful walnut box uses traditional box joint joinery that can easily be done on the tablesaw or router. The removable lid slides over the handle and is a great place for small parts and tool storage. The entire tool box is made with solid hardwood and will last many lifetimes. So today we are going to find out the bike carb Toyota MR2 aw11 4age mpg! In other words we are going to find out exactly how much the MPG worsens when you do a bike carb conversion on a car engine! So how do we do it? We remember that road trip I took just 2 days ago? That was just the opprtunity needed to collect some valuable data on the MPG of the bike carb 4AGE. When I started out that road trip I filled up my gas tank all the way to it's maximum capacity and recorded the number on my odometer. I then went on the road trip, and drove the mr2 until I depleted about half of the gas tank. I then went to a gas station again and filled up the gas tank all the way to the top again. I recorded the number on my odometer again and I recorded the number of liters of fuel I managed to fit into my gas tank. This gave me the distance I traveled and the exact amount of fuel the engine consumed during that distance. This enabled me to calculate my fuel consumption in liters / 100 km, which I can easily turn into MPG. And here's something even better. I actually drove this same route with my stock 4age rebuild 2 years ago and recorded the MPG back then as well so we can compare the bike carb mpg vs the stock 4age mpg. Hip hip..... #d4a #bikecarb4age #mpg #bikecarbsoncars #bikecarbconversion #mr2 #4age #4age16v #aw11 #ae86 #4agebigport #mr2mk1 #toyota #jdm #celica #corolla #starlet #ke70 #fx16 #ignitionmap #fuel #camshaft #tuning

I've built another three test robot dogs legs in the name of robotic development! I decided to experiment with using current control to make a joint that behaves like a spring, using a brushless motor with 2-stage belt reduction so it's back-driveable, and an ODrive motor controller using current limiting. There are no other joints in this dog because it is only for experimentation, so it cannot walk anywhere, but we can smash the legs into the ground and see what happens. However a robot with springs in it's legs will behave quite unpredictably, so we need to dampen the spring and make it complaint for it to be any use. I experimented with this by using a PID controller to drive the motor to its new position after the 'virtual spring' has stretched. The new test rig seems to work well - it can be shoved around without getting too upset and the legs comply with the ground. ① HARDWARE/SOFTWARE What more important hardware is there in life than the clothes on your back and the cup in your hand. If you saw my last video, you'd know that I removed the nails from my picking hand. In order to demonstrate the difference in tone when using nails and when not using them. This kind of big change forces me to rebuild and adapt my technique to the requirements of no-nail picking, So I thought I'd show you the simple exercises I'm doing to reacquaint myself with this. This week I'm focusing in rebuilding my Apoyando (or rest-stroke) then moving on to my Tremolo technique.

Here's the second dyno run of the bike carb 4age. This time we made non-embarrassing results. Power was decent, torque is fabulous (I could tell the whole time, didn't need a dyno for that). Unfortunately, the numbers between the individual dyno tests were a bit inconsistent so I'm taking these results with a nice salty grain of salt! For now. There is another dyno, but it's hundreds of miles away. Also, I don't care about numbers anymore honestly, the car feels great and it's a true joy to drive. #d4a #bikecarb4age #dyno #buttdyno #mr2 #bikecarbsoncars #bikecarbconversion #4age #4age16v #aw11 #ae86 #4agebigport #mr2mk1 #toyota #jdm #celica #corolla #starlet #ke70 #fx16 #ignitionmap #fuel #camshaft #tuning

Ever since I laid eyes on these wondrous cyberpunk like machines in the 90s, I was captivated. Huge pod like booths, connected to massive, bright headsets seemed like the future; Virtual Reality seemed like the future. In a way it was, because W Industries and Virtuality created something pretty staggering for the 90s. Here was VR which worked, it was immersive and even better, it was affordable, meaning arcades, leisure centres and theme parks were quick to get their own pods installed. So join me on a personal quest of enthralment, as I look at the company and machines behind the original Virtual Reality boom of the 1990s. Making box joints on the table saw requires a dado stack which isn’t available in all areas. The next best method is at the router table but not everyone has the space for a dedicated router table. This tutorial video shows a simple method on making a jig out of plywood for a hand held router that attaches to the base. Once you make this woodworking jig you’ll always be set up for box joints and finger joints. If you choose to change up your box joint finger width you’ll need to swap out the bit and make a dedicated fence for that bit.
