Some thoughts and approached I've taken in developing my own style and sound when playing the guitar. A common question I get asked is how do create my own unique voice? The fact is you're already doing it, even if you're not aware of it. A good follow up question is how do I change it if I don't like what I'm hearing, or how to I take control of my development. This week I talk about a few approaches I've taken over the years to address this myself.
Hardening wood with epoxy to make a wooden knife that cuts and stays sharp. Easy woodworking project brought to you by Squarespace. For 10% off your first purchase, go to: http://squarespace.com/makesomething Also, thanks to Total Boat! Check them out here: http://bit.ly/2Yiq9fu Use coupon code 'SOMETHING' for 20% off Total Boat at JamestownDistributors.com! In this woodworking video I attempt to make a useable wooden knife by taking wood that’s already naturally hard and infusing it with resin to make it even harder to see if it will cut and maintain a sharp edge. In the first hardening technique, I’m using a product called Cactus Juice in conjunction with a vacuum chamber. The purpose of the vacuum chamber is to remove all the air naturally in the wood and replace it with resin. This is then baked in a toaster oven to harden the resin. The second technique is much simpler and uses a very thin resin called penetrating epoxy. This is just wiped on and soaks into the wood. I also make a 3rd knife using the same Brazilian chestnut without hardening to compare the 3 and see which technique works best. All of the handles are then made out of steel making these “reverse knives.” Watch the video to see if this experiment works! ★ TOOLS & SUPPLIES (Affiliate Links)★ Planer: https://amzn.to/2LBTUGg Spray Adhesive: https://amzn.to/2YbuP72 Bandsaw: https://amzn.to/2LmBGb3 Disc Sander: https://amzn.to/2XaGbfX Spindle Sander: https://amzn.to/2LHJBAC Vacuum Chamber Kit: https://amzn.to/2MaC4K1 Cactus Juice Resin: http://bit.ly/2LBU4NS Toaster Oven: https://amzn.to/2JUSBik Penetrating Epoxy: http://bit.ly/2Yiq9fu Hand Screw Clamps: https://amzn.to/2JQ3EdY Random Orbit Sander: https://amzn.to/2LED75u Laser Cutter: https://glowforge.us/fycBT8 Plasma Cutter: https://amzn.to/2y4V9oP Angle Grinder: Angle Grinder: https://amzn.to/2XBXTZ0 Belt Grinder: http://bit.ly/2MdkxAM F-Style Clamps: https://amzn.to/2yawjUo Flush Trim Saw: https://amzn.to/2K00aod Belt Sander: https://amzn.to/2JQQZYg Tormek Sharpening System: https://amzn.to/2LEDXza CA Glue: https://amzn.to/2SCe6sv Wax/Oil: http://bit.ly/2K01fMz ★ WATCH MORE ★ Jointer Sled: https://youtu.be/G8o4P-aM8UE Drill Press Station: https://youtu.be/YHY1FbyxdlY Playlist of Woodworking Shop Projects and Jigs: http://bit.ly/2M3GYdk ★ ALL THE LINKS ★ Music by Me: http://bit.ly/2RaJ88k Patreon Support / Extra Content: http://patreon.com/picciuto T-Shirts / Books / Stickers / Plans: https://makesomething.com My Other YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/makesomething2 Making It Podcast: http://makingitpodcast.com ★ FOLLOW ME ★ https://twitter.com/drunkenwood https://instagram.com/MakeSomethingTV
Today, we'll build a large workbench in my new garage with some extra features, including bike parking, a storage area, and a BMX ramp. As ridiculous as it sounds, I can fit a ton of stuff under those ramps! Also, being able to walk up on top of the benches allows for access to the wall space above, which would otherwise be wasted. Anyway, enjoy this project! Get Early Videos & Behind the Scenes! 🚲 http://bermpeak.substack.com Notes: The benches appear to be unleveled in certain parts of the video, and indeed some of the wood was warped. After everything was screwed together and all the weight was on top, things settled in nicely. Also, I referenced "baby oil in the brakes" of my fat tire bike. These classes are all based on the book Trading and Pricing Financial Derivatives, available on Amazon at this link. https://amzn.to/2WIoAL0 Check out our website http://www.onfinance.org/ Follow Patrick on twitter here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle Derivatives are specific types of instruments that derive their value over time from the performance of an underlying asset: eg equities, bonds, commodities. A derivative is traded between two parties – who are referred to as the counterparties. These counterparties are subject to a pre-agreed set of terms and conditions that determine their rights and obligations. The most common types of derivatives are options, futures, forwards, swaps and swaptions. I have created videos already explaining all of these financial products. Market risk refers to the sensitivity of an asset or portfolio to overall market price movements such as interest rates, inflation, equities, currency and property. In addition to market risk, derivatives carry counterparty credit risk. Counterparty risk arises when one of the parties defaults, resulting in a replacement risk for the non-defaulting party. As the use of derivatives has grown, systems and methodologies to monitor and mitigate counterparty risk have become more sophisticated. Regulators have also been enhancing the accounting standards (eg IFRS 13) and capital frameworks to capture counterparty risk. Whilst VaR remains an important metric for measuring market risk exposure, there are limitations with this measure. Regulators are increasingly recommending a broader range of risk metrics to evaluate risk exposure. Ultimately, each investor needs to adopt the best combination of risk metrics for their unique asset/liability, funding and risk profile.
I'm building some robust robot torsos that I can use as a basis for lots of YouTube performances and events. The robots will be reliable, agile, robust, and transportable. I plan to make puppeteering rigs, and software/interfaces which I can plug other projects into - like vision recognition and machine learning. The stands are made from welded box-section steel, and the first gimbal stage is also steel with bright steel bar and bearings. I'm using brushless motors and ball screws to drive four of the axis, with ODrive Robotics motor drivers to accurately control them. The motors and ball screws are mounted on a CNC aluminium plate. Next time I'll be building the the rest of the mechanics which consists of three shoulder axis and the elbows. One shoulder axis will be brushless, and the others will be DC brushed motors. ① HARDWARE/SOFTWARE What more important hardware is there in life than the clothes on your back and the cup in your hand. For anybody who wants to try the "boil water with water" experiment for themselves, you're in the right place! This video gives a quick overview of the setup and explains how you set up the experiment to boil water with no applied heat or vacuum pump. The original video: https://youtu.be/hHNoHhbfFDQ Music: I Dunno by grapes is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) http://ccmixter.org/files/grapes/16626
This was a fun quick experiment that makes a great physics demo about pressures and state-changes of matter. Everybody's seen water boil on a stove, but at the University of Toledo's Saturday Physics days when I was little, I once saw water boil in a vacuum chamber, and for some reason that stuck with me. A few weeks ago I got the idea to try to boil water at low pressure, not with a real mechanical vacuum pump, but by using a massive column of water as a sort of by-default vacuum generator. I used no heat and no motorized pump, but I boiled water at room temperature using only $25 of hardware store parts and an old heavy-duty waterbottle. Enjoy! If you want to try this experiment yourself, I've got a bit more information about physically building and setting up the apparatus here: https://youtu.be/yYBQHFCqw_A Music: I Dunno by grapes is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) http://ccmixter.org/files/grapes/16626
Mary Magdalene has a ton of conspiracy theories swirling around her. Most are pure speculation. But a recent study by a Duke University New Testament PhD student, Elizabeth Schrader, argues that the copiers of the Gospel of John may have diminished the role of Mary Magdalene. One of the best ways I know of really understanding the guitar neck is to start combining and overlaying scales, arpeggios, pentatonics in multiple fingerings and use it to give you a multi-layered holistic view of the whole neck. This week I show you how I go about doing this with the pentatonic and standard 3 note per string scale positions. A PDF of this can be downloaded here... http://bit.ly/2Y9R1CF

How to kerf bend both plywood and solid wood quickly and easily. Thanks to Dollar Shave Club for sponsoring. Go to http://DollarShaveClub.com/MakeSomething to get your first starter set for $5! There are 3 common ways to bend wood; steam bending, bent lamination and the technique used in this video called kerf bending. Out of the three, kerf banding is in most cases the quickest and easiest method and doesn't require any special jigs. The process if fairly simple in which you make a series of kerfs in your wood spaced apart depending on your desired radius. The kerf is cut almost all the way through leaving a little more than a 1/16 skin (veneer) on top. This skin is thin enough to allow it to bend and can be held in place with glue. I prefer using polyurethane (Gorilla Glue) for this technique as it expands when it comes in contact with water filling the gap. This wood bending technique works with both plywood and solid wood. In this tutorial video we go over how many kerfs to cut, spacing and depth without getting into unnecessary math. I use the kerf bending technique to make a stylish coat rack and at the end of the video I'll go over some tips and tricks to get up bending wood with ease! Horizontal gene transfer allows bacteria to swap genes, these speeds up the acquisition of new traits like antibiotic resistance. There are 3 main mechanisms: transduction, transformation and conjugation. But where are human pathogens picking up these genes? In our bodies? In rivers and oceans? The Apollo 11 moon landing encounters the Philips UFO. Depending upon what source you read, the date for the introduction of the Philips UFO turntable might vary. Multiple sources indicate that the design was done by Patrice Dupont in 1969 - these include https://sound-of-design.de/en/node/188 - and the book “L'utopie du tout plastique : 1960-1973”. However other online sources state the GF303 was manufactured from 1972-1974. Irrespective of which one is correct, it’s irrefutably a classic space-age design. COMMENTS: Unfortunately as soon as this video was posted the comments were immediately inundated with individuals promoting their own agendas and conspiracy theories. As a result of this, other viewers complained that the comments needed moderating because of all the spam. I therefore pinned a notice to advise that comments would be moderated - however that idea got the free speech advocates up in arms. So here's what I'm doing - I'm just going to let the comments do their own thing - I won't be reading them and I won't be moderating them. I will be offline today, working on another video. It's up to each individual to decide whether to read the comments. The ratio of comments to views is one stat to keep in mind though if you do choose to read them. Approximately only 1% of viewers comment on any given video. Most comments are friendly and helpful - the unpleasant ones only represent a fraction of that one percent of viewers. So it might be wise not to spend too long thinking about a statistical rounding error. If anyone wants to post their agenda on YouTube they should make their own video about it rather than trying to piggyback on a video about a record player. ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM
