These classes are all based on the book Trading and Pricing Financial Derivatives, available on Amazon at this link. https://amzn.to/2WIoAL0 Check out our website http://www.onfinance.org/ Follow Patrick on twitter here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle In Todays video let's learn about time varying volatility and GARCH in risk management Follow Patrick on Twitter Here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle What Is Time-Varying Volatility? Time-varying volatility refers to the changes in market volatility over different time periods. Investors may choose to study or consider volatility of an underlying security during various time periods. The use of time-varied volatility measures can influence the expectations of investments. How Time-Varying Volatility Works Time-varying volatility can be studied in any time-frame. Generally, volatility analysis requires mathematical modeling to generate volatility levels as one measure of the risk of an underlying security. This type of modeling generates historical volatility statistics. What is the GARCH Process? The generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) process is an econometric term developed in 1982 by Robert F. Engle, an economist and 2003 winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize for Economics, to describe an approach to estimate volatility in financial markets. There are several forms of GARCH modeling. The GARCH process is often preferred by financial modeling professionals because it provides a more real-world context than other forms when trying to predict the prices and rates of financial instruments. Heteroskedasticity describes the irregular pattern of variation of an error term, or variable, in a statistical model. Essentially, where there is heteroskedasticity, observations do not conform to a linear pattern. Instead, they tend to cluster. The result is that the conclusions and predictive value one can draw from the model will not be reliable. GARCH is a statistical model that can be used to analyze a number of different types of financial data, for instance, macroeconomic data. Financial institutions often use this model to estimate the volatility of returns for stocks, bonds and market indices. They use the resulting information to help determine pricing and judge which assets will potentially provide higher returns, as well as to forecast the returns of current investments to help in their asset allocation, hedging, risk management and portfolio optimization decisions.

The Schaub Lorenz 5001 Music Centres were ahead of their time, expensive and a failure. Fifty years on, surviving examples often hold a unique piece of the past. (CLICK - “SHOW MORE”)... Invaluable resources: http://www.ilove-schaub-lorenz-music-centers.com/ https://www.hifi-archiv.info https://www.americanradiohistory.com Thanks to: Edward Norton (not that one) - I believe he was the first person to put me onto the Schaub Lorenz 5001 - He mentioned it in the comments to a few of my videos back in 2016. I then searched for a working one for a year and bought the machine you see in this video in November 2017. Edward's youtube channel can be found at https://www.youtube.com/user/farmerinboots09 PINNED UPDATED INFO & PRE-EMPTIVE QUESTION RESPONSES •If you want to learn more about these unique machines visit http://www.ilove-schaub-lorenz-music-centers.com/ - On here, amongst other things you’ll find information about the 29.7 hour stereo version of the recorder that was made by Schaub Lorenz but wasn’t used in their own cabinets, instead it was sold to GE in the US. •During playback this machine should automatically advance onto the next track after rewinding and continue playing. Because of this feature a number of these were used as background music players in hotels etc. •The track length of 22 minutes is more suited for recording one side of an LP per track. As long as your LPs were of a suitable length it would hold 63. The lack of fast forward makes more sense here as playing a track is just like playing one whole side of a record from the beginning to the end. •Repairs - I won’t be attempting any repairs on the lighting circuit until I get the audio recorded from the machine. I don’t want to risk damaging anything before all the recordings have been archived. •The speaker output isn’t designed to be plugged into a recorder - the impedance is different from a standard RCA connection - hence the ‘thinner’ than optimal sound - since making the video I've added a "High to Low level converter" between the speaker output and the PCM recorder line-in and these new recordings sound much better. ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?... -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM

Forget about “Frankenstein” coalitions with the remnants of the Left — they have proven absolutely impotent and unreliable as potential partners. DiEM25 Italia must build its own basis. If you've every wanted to be able to play chromatic lines and have them lock into the harmony without even thinking about it, then this may be the the approach you need. Chromatic Pentatonics are 10 note scales that sit on top of the existing pentatonic scales so are quick to learn and use. They also have some interesting properties that lock onto the harmony that you're playing against. The PDF can be downloaded here... http://bit.ly/2KL0fij

In a recent poll, it seems that 78% of you have never been to a lift access bike park like Whistler, which is actually pretty unsurprising. Some of these places are not easy to get to, and some of you aren't even that interested in downhill. Nevertheless, "Whistler" pops up a lot in MTB news as well as YouTube, and most of this content presumes you have certain knowledge about the place. Some of you may feel that you have "stupid" questions about it, but I feel that no such questions exist. This video is meant to serve as an introduction to Whistler so that other videos are easier to understand. If this upload isn't up to normal standards, it's because I produced it on location. The topic for this event was the Green New Deal. We [DSC Stockholm] introduced DiEM25 and a general description of the Green New Deal concept. We boiled that concept down to four basic DiEM25 pillars of necessary systemic changes: - A new Governance - A new Social Structure - A new Economy - A new Green infrastructure* We then asked the participants what needs to be changed, and how each one can contribute to such a new structure. We organised this “workshop” in the form of a World Café. Groups of people that had to rotate after half the time and then a conclusion after two hours. Paul Davids and I worked out how to juggle egg shakers polyrhythmically at Thomann's Gearhead University #tgu19. It turns out that #polyrhythms, when juggled, reveal a lot about coordination and rhythm. Plus, it's a fun meme game. Go play it! If you do, film you and a friend juggling polyrhythms, upload it to the ol' instagram and tag me at its_adamneely, I'll be reposting them on my story. Paul David's kickass channel... https://youtu.be/fxapABEcExA Thanks to Thomann and all of the sponsors of Gearhead University for making this dumb little game possible. In todays video we learn how to calculate VaR or Value at Risk. Buy The Book Here: https://amzn.to/37HIdEB Follow Patrick on Twitter Here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoyle What is VAR? The most popular and traditional measure of risk is volatility. The main problem with volatility, however, is that it does not care about the direction of an investment's movement: a stock can be volatile because it suddenly jumps higher. Of course, investors do not get upset about gains. For investors, risk is about losing money, and VAR is based on that idea. By assuming investors care about the odds of a really big loss, VAR answers the question, “How much might I lose in a normal bad day?" and “How much could I lose in a really bad day?" Now let's get specific. A VAR statistic has three components: a time period, a confidence level and a loss amount (or loss percentage). You can see how the "VAR question" has three elements: a relatively high level of confidence (typically either 95% or 99%), a time period (a day, a month or a year) and an estimate of investment loss (expressed either in dollar or percentage terms). There are three methods of calculating VAR: the historical method, the variance-covariance method also known as the model approach) and the Monte Carlo simulation. I have covered Monte Carlo in a separate video. In this video we look at the Historical method and the model approach. What is the Historical method for calculating Value at Risk? The historical method simply re-organizes actual historical returns, putting them in order from worst to best. It then assumes that history will repeat itself, from a risk perspective. What is the Variance-Covariance Method or the model approach for calculating Value at Risk? This method assumes that stock returns are normally distributed. In other words, it requires that we estimate only two factors - an expected (or average) return and a standard deviation - which allow us to plot a normal distribution curve. The idea behind the variance-covariance is similar to the ideas behind the historical method - except that we use the familiar curve instead of actual data. The advantage of the normal curve is that we automatically know where the worst 5% and 1% lie on the curve. They are a function of our desired confidence and the standard deviation What is the Monte Carlo Simulation approach to calculating Value at Risk? The third method involves developing a model for future stock price returns and running multiple hypothetical trials through the model. A Monte Carlo simulation refers to any method that randomly generates trials, but by itself does not tell us anything about the underlying methodology. I have created a separate video on that topic which you can find here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luSEdT2HBI4

In 2018 the British Museum commissoned artist Ahmad Angawi to create some traditional Mangour screens to cover the windows of the new Albukhary foundation galleries of the Islamic world. These traditional screens are beautiful but also practical, in that they reduce light and heat in the rooms they adorn. In this film Ahmad talks about the craftsmanship that went into making the screens and some of the thought processes associated with the geometric designs, that make them such a key architectural feature of the galleries.
