Johri is a postdoctoral fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and completed her PhD at Harvard Medical School in 2025. She discusses ways that new technology is improving patient care, but she says AI must be treated like an additional tool and not be given control over patient care. "Doctors have to be responsible, have to take the responsibility of this until we are more confident we have frameworks developed that can deploy these AI models in a more responsible way," she says. Tarrant County, home to Fort Worth and one of the most populous counties in the state, will have just 224 polling sites for voters, down from 316 in 2022. The change was approved in a party-line vote Tuesday, with all three of the county's Republican commissioners voting in favor and the two Democrats opposing it. Civil rights groups including the ACLU and NAACP warn the changes will disproportionately affect voters of color. This follows President Trump's executive order in March directing his administration to create federal lists of citizens and to refuse delivery of mail-in ballots to people not on those lists. The legality of Trump's executive order is being challenged, but the U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the administration to proceed with its implementation for now. 'Muziek maken is zorgeloos', aldus Jeffrey Heesen. Poland is emerging as one of Europe’s most intriguing cool-climate wine countries and disease-resistant PIWI grapes could play a significant part in its future. I’m joined by Espen Madsen of Winnica Silesian to explore how varieties including Souvignier Gris, Hibernal and Jutrzenka perform in the continental climate of Lower Silesia. Espen tells me how he moved from oceanography and environmental consultancy into winemaking with his wife, Sonia, and her farming family. We explore why Winnica Silesian planted both PIWI and Vitis vinifera varieties, how its granite soils affect the vineyard, and how the vines cope with frost, summer heat, fungal pressure and a relatively short growing season. We look at varieties including Souvignier Gris, Johanniter, Hibernal, Jutrzenka, Seyval Blanc, Solaris, Bianka, Cabernet Cortis, Regent and Rondo. We also discuss the estate’s Riesling and Roter Riesling, the advantages of disease-resistant vines for organic viticulture, and the winemaking freedom offered by these lesser-known grapes. Espen and I consider the environmental and commercial advantages of PIWIs, the potential risks associated with excessive yields, and the challenge of marketing unfamiliar grape names. We also discuss European grape-breeding programmes and ask whether PIWI varieties will become an important part of wine’s future. Have you tried Polish wine or any of these PIWI varieties?
