The film shows the modern water system in Chicago, which purifies water for the city from Lake Michigan by using natural filtration and chlorine. At 0:00 main titles followed by shots of fountains in Chicago. At 0:25, the Four Mile Crib Lighthouse on Lake Michigan is shown. The structure houses and protects offshore water intakes used to supply the city with drinking water. The Four Mile Crib was built in 1891 and is located four miles offshore from the foot of Chicago's 14th Street. A diagram at 0:34 explains this. At 1:01 the Gothic Revival style Chicago Avenue Pumping Station on Michigan Avenue, designed by William Boyington. At 1:50, settling tanks are used to remove sediment from water. At 2:29, chemicals may be added to hasten settling. 3:19 water is filtered through sand and gravel, and a demonstration of how this works is shown. At 5:34, a water treatment plant is shown. At 6:41, title card: The flow of water may be reversed to clean the filter beds. 7:28: title card: water may contain harmful bacteria. A diagram shows how fresh water supplies can be contaminated by sewage or other dirty water. 9:19: a chlorine treatment facility is shown, with chlorine injected into city water supplies. 10:49: title card: water is tested daily. Testing is shown using petrie dishes in a laboratory, which are stored for 24 hours to see if there is bacterial growth. The End. It starts with music and the orchestra playing as attendants move towards the ring. The ringmaster (probably the famous George Lockhart) ensures everything is in order, and the first night begins with an Indian bareback rider escorted by clowns. The rider, known as the great white Chief Running Water, demonstrates his horsemanship, followed by a performance from the famous three Austin clowns. The conductor cues the next act, a hand balancer, who performs impressive balancing tricks. The Shetland ponies, with their lady trainer, respond to orders and perform well. The trapeze artists, including the flying twins, perform daring stunts, such as the human pendulum. The famous Adagio dancers, Bol and Merin, perform, with the girl jumping from a high platform and being caught safely by her partner. The clowns return with comedic stunts, followed by a knife thrower, the merry muttons Mavis and Mmadu, a strongman act, a wire walker, and a juggler performing with rings. The Oxfords then perform a basketball game on bikes, which continues with fast-paced action. The audience rises as the first night ends with the playing of the king. The first Belle Vue Circus (so named because it took place at the eponymous Belle Vue Gardens) took place in 1922, and again in 1929. After that year it became a regular Christmas-time event held in the Kings Hall. Ringmaster George Lockhart became synonymous with the Belle Vue Circus, and his face was used on many advertising posters. Belle Vue Zoo superintendent Gerald Iles included some of the zoo's animals in the circus, in a feature called Noah's Ark. Another of the circus stalwarts was resident band leader and Belle Vue's musical director Fred Bonelli, who led various Belle Vue circus bands for 40 years, and Jacko the Clown and his partner "Little Billy" Merchant, who performed for three decades. Warren Gregory, ook wel bekend als Flowerbikeman, vertrekt op 6 oktober uit het land samen met zijn vrouw Michelle. De 55-jarige kunstenaar mag volgens de Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst (IND) niet langer in Nederland verblijven en keert daarmee volgende maand terug naar zijn geboortestaat Florida. "Ja, we gaan weg. Dat is nu onvermijdelijk. Het is nog maar een paar weken", vertelt Gregory geëmotioneerd. Flowerbikeman werd bekend door zijn opvallende fietsen, volledig bekleed met bloemen. Hiermee fietste hij als een Amsterdammer door de stad, werd hij steeds vaker herkend en ontpopte hij zich als fenomeen. “Ik heb geprobeerd mijn invloed uit te oefenen op de grachten om deze bloemrijker te maken. Dat is aardig gelukt.” Gregory werd begin augustus aangehouden. Het is niet bekendgemaakt waarvoor hij precies werd opgepakt. Daarna bleek dat hij geen geldige verblijfsvergunning heeft. Volgens de Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst (IND) kon hij daarnaast geen middelen van bestaan aantonen. Gregory zegt dat zijn situatie vooral te maken heeft met het ontbreken van een officieel woonadres. Hij woont samen met zijn vrouw Michelle op een woonboot in Amsterdam-Noord. "Ik kon het me nooit veroorloven om een geregistreerd adres te hebben. Ik heb een bsn-nummer, een bankrekening en al het werk dat ik heb gedaan staat geregistreerd. Niets daarvan was zwart, alles was gedocumenteerd. Ik ben niet dakloos, maar ik heb geen officieel woonadres." Volgens de IND was het ontbreken van een officieel woonadres, samen met het ontbreken van een verblijfsvergunning en het feit dat Gregory zich eerder niet aan een meldplicht had gehouden, reden om hem vast te zetten in vreemdelingenbewaring. Inmiddels is hij weer vrij, maar zijn vertrek uit Nederland staat vast. Nu woont Gregory samen met zijn vrouw Michelle op een bootje in Noord. Hij maakt zich zorgen over de gevolgen van zijn vertrek voor haar. Een moeilijke situatie, omdat zijn vrouw Michelle lijdt aan epilepsie. “De zorg in Nederland is een stuk beter geregeld dan in de Verenigde Staten. Ik heb daarbij ook rugklachten en in Amerika is goede zorg niet vanzelfsprekend.” Toch wil hij niet alleen maar negatief spreken over hoe zijn zaak is behandeld. "Ze hebben me keer op keer de tijd gegeven om mijn zaken op orde te krijgen. Ik kan er eigenlijk niets slechts over zeggen, want je kunt het van twee kanten bekijken." Dat hij uiteindelijk niet in Nederland kan blijven, raakt hem. "Verdrietig, beschaamd en gefaald.
