Former City trader turned inequality campaigner Gary Stevenson has become one of the internet's most influential voices on wealth, wages and the widening gap between rich and poor. A bestselling author and self-described "Inequality Economist," Stevenson has built a huge online following by arguing that Britain's economic system is fundamentally broken. As his profile has grown, so too has the criticism. Detractors accuse Stevenson of exaggerating his success as a trader, dressing left-wing politics up as economics and profiting from a message of economic decline despite his own personal fortune. Now, with the release of his new Channel 4 documentary How To Get Filthy Rich, Stevenson is pushing one of his most controversial ideas yet: a tax on extreme wealth. The debate comes as inequality dominates political and economic discussion on both sides of the Atlantic. With stock markets reaching record highs, tech billionaires accumulating unprecedented fortunes and house prices remaining out of reach for many young people, questions about who really benefits from economic growth are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Notably, Johns Manville sold asbestos and manufactured products with asbestos in Europe, including owning facilities and investing in operations in countries like Belgium and France. The company was a global leader in asbestos products before phasing out their use by the mid-1980s. The film includes a look at the manufacture of what appears to be insulation, roofing tiles, fireproof liners and those used for things like brake pads, and so on. Viewers will note that no respiratory protection or other measures to protect workers from asbestos are shown. Some parts of the film show damaged or destroyed factories, including some in the French occupation zone. One section of the film (15:19) shows signage for "T Force". Interestingly, T-Force was the operational arm of a joint US Army–British Army mission to secure German scientific and industrial technology before it could be destroyed by retreating German forces or looters during the final stages of the Second World War and its aftermath. We saw, in the two weeks leading up to this summit happening, authorities in Ankara arrested over 200 people in dawn raids," says Ruth Michaelson, a journalist based in Istanbul who is covering the NATO summit in Ankara. Trump announced on Tuesday at the summit that he would lift U.S. sanctions on Turkey and is considering selling the country F-35 fighter jets. Repression from the Turkish state against its residents has not been addressed during the summit by its members in general; instead, "something that we've been hearing throughout the summit is that Turkey has this indispensable place in NATO," says Michaelson.

Twee neven van de man die volgens justitie twee Syrische tieners doodschoot in het Piet Wiedijkpark, zouden Youtuber RouandYT de opdracht hebben gegeven de man te bellen met een prankcall. Dat blijkt vandaag tijdens een tweede zitting in het onderzoek. Op nieuwsjaarsdag werden drie nietsvermoedende jongens onder vuur genomen in het park, twee overleefden het niet. Een van hen wist te ontkomen. Het is een van de punten die volgens het Openbaar Ministerie duidelijk zijn geworden in het onderzoek naar de dodelijke schietpartij. De twee neven zouden tijdens de livestream een bedrag hebben betaald om Efe Y. te bellen met een gangsterverhaal. "Zeg dat je geld krijgt en uit Rotterdam-Zuid komt." In het gesprek reageert Y. fel: "Kom naar die brug, hoerenkind." Er wordt heftig gescholden en uiteindelijk gaat Y. naar het Piet Wiedijkpark waar hij drie nietsvermoedende jongens onderweg naar het winkelcentrum in Osdorp, onder vuur neemt. Beide slachtoffers van 16 en 18 jaar overleden ter plaatse. Bijna drie weken later hield de politie de toen 25-jarige Efe Y. Hij wordt verdacht van het doodschieten van de twee onschuldige tieners. Mogelijk conflict met neven Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft een mogelijk conflict tussen de neven en de verdachte onderzocht en stuitte daarbij op een melding van Efe Y. over twee mannen die zijn woning in waren gekomen in 2022. Ze zouden toen om geld hebben gevraagd, toen daarvan te weinig aanwezig bleek zouden ze hebben gezegd dat hij het alsnog moest regelen. Volgens de officier van justitie komt de prankcall daarmee in een ander licht te staan. "Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft sterk het vermoeden dat hij denkt dat hij op 1 januari is benaderd door huurmoordenaars waaraan hij nog geld zou zijn verschuldigd." Uit berichten die zijn onderzocht in de telefoon van Y. blijkt daarnaast dat tien dagen na de schietpartij via Instagram berichten door Y. zijn gestuurd. In die berichten zou de verdachte iemand hebben gevraagd een van zijn neven iets aan te doen, omdat hij hem 'zo vies heeft genakt'. "Laat deze man lekken als een motherfucker", zou hij hebben geschreven. Daarnaast geeft hij twee adressen en stuurt een foto van de neef. Bedoeld als grapje De twee neven zijn als getuige gehoord bij de politie en bekennen de betaling te hebben gedaan met de opdracht hem te bellen. Volgens de neven was de prank bedoeld als grapje en wisten ze niet dat hij het serieus zou nemen. In de telefoon van de verdachte zijn naast deze berichten ook ruim 5000 afbeeldingen gevonden van wapens en munitie. Daarnaast had hij ook foto's uit de media opgeslagen van de plaats delict in het Piet Wiedijkpark. Het onderzoek van de politie is nog altijd in volle gang en de verdachte beroept zich nog altijd op zijn zwijgrecht. Morgen wordt hij ter observatie in het Pieter Baan Centrum geplaatst. Verwacht wordt dat de zaak pas begin volgend jaar inhoudelijk zal worden behandeld. Opvallend in de zaak is dat de Youtuber als een belangrijke getuige wordt gezien en niet als verdachte. Dat gebeurde in een andere zaak namelijk wél. De Youtuber haalde vaker zogeheten prankcalls uit tijdens livestreams, in een van die prankcalls bedreigde hij een journalist van PowNed en werd daar gisteren voor veroordeeld. "Het internet is een hele leuke, maar ook een hele donkere plek" RouandYT in rechtbank Almelo RouandYT zei gisteren in de Almelose rechtbank dat hij het prankcallen voorgoed vaarwel zegt. "Ik probeer een goede jongen te zijn. Het internet is een hele leuke, maar ook een hele donkere plek", zo citeert RTV Oost de man. De zaak gaat op 25 september verder met een nieuwe pro-formazitting. Maine's Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner has yet to drop out of the race despite losing all major endorsements after a rape allegation by an ex-girlfriend, Jenny Racicot, who says Platner assaulted her in 2021. Platner has denied the claim. "There's no way to force Platner off the ballot; he has to make the decision," says Amy Fried, professor emerita of political science at the University of Maine. Platner would have to drop out of the race by Monday, "and then there's two weeks for the Maine Democratic Party to pick someone else."

"This war, which is often categorized in international media as a civil war, is really a proxy war," says award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker Julia Steers. "We're talking about a really extensive network of logistics and training and financial backing from the UAE." We saw, in the two weeks leading up to this summit happening, authorities in Ankara arrested over 200 people in dawn raids," says Ruth Michaelson, a journalist based in Istanbul. "There has also been a protest ban enforced in Ankara, and that is a protest ban that extends even to leafleting." Een mini-auto, yuppenskelter of Biro, opvallend veel bestuurders van het voertuig weten niet welke verkeersregels gelden. Uit onderzoek van de Vervoerregio Amsterdam blijkt dat 42 procent de regels niet kent. De organisatie maakt zich zorgen en pleit voor strengere eisen én een duidelijke naam voor de voertuigen. Wethouder Mobiliteit, Elise Moeskops vindt de uitkomst van het onderzoek heftig: "Je ziet in de verkeersveiligheid dat het af en toe misgaat, maar dat het er zo veel zijn zijn, die niet even de moeite nemen om de regels te checken voordat ze dat ding kopen, vind ik wel een beetje schrikken." Uit navraag op straat blijkt dat mensen de regels ook nog wel eens verbreken, "Soms als je een tram in wil halen ga ik over het fietspad. Of als er file staat maak je er natuurlijk gebruik van dat dit ding zo klein is" vertelt een voorbijganger. "Ik ken de meeste regels, maar ik moet eerlijk zeggen, het is soms best een uitzoekklus om te zien, waar je moet rijden", vertelt een ander.  De Vervoerregio Amsterdam verwacht dat het aantal en gebruikers van de brommobiel blijft stijgen en wil daarom actie. Zo willen ze er onder andere dat de regels duidelijker worden en pleiten ze voor een zwaarder rijbewijs. "Je kan nu met een gewoon brommobielrijbewijs ook in dat ding stappen, dus misschien is de logica dat er brommerregels voor moet hebben, want eigenlijk is het een mini-auto. Dat kunnen wij als Amsterdam niet, dan moeten we naar het ministerie, en ik zou er wel voorstander van zijn", aldus Moeskops. Brommobiel is oubollig  Ook de naam van het voertuig zou volgens de Vervoerregio op de schop moeten. De huidige benamingen zorgen volgens de organisatie voor verwarring over welke regels gelden. Ook op straat is er geen eenduidige naam voor het voertuig. "Brommobiel klinkt een beetje oubollig", vindt de één. Een ander zegt: "Emissieloos brommobiel, het ene moment ben je auto, het andere moment ben je een scooter, erg onduidelijk." Weer een ander houdt het simpel: "Biro, blijft een passende naam."  Moeskops vindt dat er een passende naam is: "Ik vind micro-auto een goede term. Ik denk dat dat de lading dekt. Soms voelt een verhuizing niet als een nieuw begin, maar als thuiskomen. Zo vind je sinds kort sterrenrestaurant Daalder van Dennis Huwaë terug op z’n oude honk in de Jordaan, de plek waar ‘t 10 jaar geleden begon. ⭐️ Toen de pandemie uitbrak, mocht Dennis hier nog maar 12 gasten ontvangen, terwijl zijn personeel al uit 15 man bestond. Dus besloot hij te verhuizen naar een locatie met meer ruimte. Toen die onzekere periode over leek te zijn, besloot Dennis met zijn Daalder terug te gaan naar de knusse Lindengracht.
