Here's a link to my adjustable cam gears (cam pulleys): https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/16v4age/adjustable-cam-gears-16v-4ag Here's a video on how to use adjustable cam gears. If you install aggressive camshafts on your engine, adjustable cam gears become a must, otherwise the stock cam gears will be limiting the potential of your aggressive cams. Adjusting adjustable cam gears or pulleys is super easy. Unlike stock cam gears which require the removal od a timing belt and valve cover to be "adjusted", all you need to to do adjust aftermarket cam gears is to loosen a few bolts and rotate the engine. Cam timing is the position of your camshaft lobes in relation to your piston's position. Advancing cam timing on the intake cam means the intake valves will open earlier. Retarding cam timing on the intake cam makes it retarded *crickets sound*. Retarding cam timing on the intake cam actually makes the intake valve open later. However, since the 4a-ge engine is a dohc (double over head cam) design we can also play with the lobe separation angle. You adjust the lobe separation angle by moving the cam lobes away from each other or towards each other. Moving cam away from each other, i.e. increasing LSA results in: Broader power band Lower max HP torque moved lower in the rpm range maximum torque decreased engine idles better less chance of engine knock piston to valve clearance increased Moving cam towards each other, i.e. decreasing LSA results in: Narrow power band Higher max HP torque moved higher in the rpm range maximum torque increased engine idles worse more chance of engine knock piston to valve clearance decreased It might also be important to add that playing with the LSA has almost the opposite effects on a turbo vs. an naturally aspirated engine. Tuning A to 432 hz may yield the answers to the question that so many people ask themselves - why does my music not feel the way that I hear in my head? Why is it that so much of the music that I hear out in the real world feels so...plastic-y and false when I know it could be so much more? Actually, no it won't yield those answers. It's basically just a big new age circle jerk. But the weird internet obsession with A=432 does bring up some interesting questions about the history of how we got to our current standard, A=440, and why some people might dabble in lower tuning systems. Get Early Videos & Behind the Scenes! 🚲 http://bermpeak.substack.com Here is Johnny's Video: https://youtu.be/x7iwLQllgds When it comes to woodworking, I know just enough to get into trouble. Still it’s something I want to do more of, so when Johnny from Crafted workshop contacted me to collaborate, I was all for it. He’s a mountain biker too, and actually made a pretty cool bike rack on his channel. He builds seats, tables, and even equipment for his shop. Johnny’s builds are contemporary and aesthetically stunning, but above all they’re functional. Today I hope to corrupt him. My idea was to build a kicker ramp out of a solid block of wood, sort of like a butcher’s block, or wood cutting board. Johnny didn’t flinch. All he’d need from me was some consulting on the transition. The transition would be 18 inches long and 4 inches high. More than enough to prove the concept without going through all of Johnny’s lumber. Experienced woodworkers spend a lot less on lumber than you and I would. With machines like jointers, planers, and table saws, you can take coarse scrap wood from Craigslist and make it look like furniture. Before Johnny actually cuts the shape of our ramp, he first needs to make one huge block of wood out of all these planks. Step one is to cut them all roughly to size. The jointer takes out bows and bumps to make the wood perfectly flat on one side. To make both sides of the planks flat with each other, Johnny places them flat side down on the surface of his planer. The planer takes a thin layer of wood off the top surface to make the two faces totally parallel. Of course we want the planks to be the same width as well, so as a final step Johnny rips them all through his table saw to get them slightly wider than 4 inches. We’ll still be removing another thin layer of material once the block is built. Used properly, wood glue is insanely strong. Because these planks are so square and precise, they fit together like two sheets of glass. Only seconds after gluing two planks together, they’re almost impossible to slide against each other. Once clamped and cured, you’d have an easier time separating the grain of the wood itself than you would two planks. Now we kill some time while the glue dries. Just like he did with the individual planks, Johnny is cleaning up this massive block of wood. At this point, it’s only a few steps away from being a sweet butcher’s block, but we’re only getting started. To cut this transition, Johnny will push his band saw to its absolute limit. This was one limiting factor for the size of this ramp, as the blade must pass all the way through it. By cutting this transition, we were actually left with two pieces of wood. We decided to make the “scrap” piece a lander. Why not? To protect the wood and bring out the grain, Johnny is first coating the ramp in mineral oil. For an added layer of protection and sheen, he’s applying butcher’s block conditioner, which has wax in it. While this stuff dries, we’ll start preparing to show this ramp to the world. I’m not sure why this looks so appropriate paired with a ribeye. Call it the cutting board kicker, the butcher’s block booter, whatever. This piece represents woodworking, BMX, and deliciousness. Now to really put this kicker to the test. Not only does this kicker ramp work, it’s likely the nicest looking one ever made. It’s solid too. The Cutting Board Kicker is easily the goofiest thing Johnny has ever made, but it still serves as an excellent tutorial for a variety of woodworking techniques. If you love woodworking, or just find watching it to be oddly satisfying, subscribe to Crafted Workshop for a new build every Tuesday. You can see Johny’s video of the cutting board Kicker in the link below. What do you guys think? Should we eat off of this ramp again now that I’ve ridden it? How would you like to see more collaborations with Crafted Workshop? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time.

Scientist, Dr Diego Tamburini analyses the dyes used to colour the fibres of the Vulture Peak embroidery. He uses a technique known as Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry to find out what was used to colour the embroidery threads. The embroidery dates from China’s Tang dynasty (AD 618–907). It depicts the Buddha preaching at Vulture Peak – in Buddhist tradition a favourite retreat of the Buddha and his disciples, located in what is now north-east India. It was discovered by archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein (1862–1943) who, while exploring the many caves at Dunhuang, discovered a walled up cave. Behind this wall was a library full of manuscripts paintings and textiles, including this astonishing embroidery. Watch the rest of the ‘Conserving Vulture Peak’ series here: https://goo.gl/FXoBK2 The tapestry is part of a collection donated to the British Museum by the archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein (1862–1943). Time for the short history of screensavers... What was the first screensaver? How does screen burn occur? What did those bizarre people who used MSDOS (like me) do to prevent their screens from being burnt into an uncivilised hell? Well, all those answers and more (probably) lay in wait. In this video I'll be looking at the early days of screensavers, and in particular MS-DOS screensavers. After a brief look at the history of screensavers and their first "mention" in the 1961 novel, Stranger in the Strange Land, we get stuck in at the deep end with such creations as; Plasma, BugFry, Aquarium, EYE, Rain, Tunnel, VGAGlow, Screamer, Fire, Bushsave, Inner Mission, Fantasy, Snow, DCMatrix, Night Bird, Sparkwood, DSDino and of course, After Dark for DOS. So sit back, safe in the knowledge, that your screen will be safe from burning during the next 10 minutes or so (unless you have terrible internet and the buffering logo gets burnt on - but that's your problem, not mine). *Please consider supporting the channel on Patreon*: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! The big reveal of my Butter Bot, in my take on the original scene from Rick and Morty. The butter bot is a hand-machined (with a bit of CNC) aluminum armature that I animated over the course of a day to make this clip. I've covered the build process and the stop motion work in two other videos posted below. Usually it’ll be in reference to a type of trail, or trail feature, but what exactly is meant when something is referred to as North Shore? The most dramatic examples of North Shore trails can be found where they originated—the North Shore of Vancouver. When it’s not raining cats and dogs here, it’s raining pine needles. Flat areas inevitably become swamps, and steep spots erode as water and soft topsoil make their way down the mountainside. In order to build bike trails in Vancouver, builders needed to invent new techniques. Today Brian and I will see that first hand, during a very rare dry weather. We’re riding mount Fromme, which is home to an iconic North Shore trail system only minutes from downtown. That warm up on Bobsled would be our last taste of flow for the day. Little did we know, we were about to encounter some of the techiest tech we ever teched. The bike I rode for the trip was a Mission Pro, which is a pretty big all mountain bike. Still it’s smaller and nimbler than the downhill bikes our companions were riding. With this slight advantage, I blazed the trail for most of the day and got to ride all these crazy features blind. Up in Whistler we rode features like these on “A River Runs Through It”. All the ladders, bridges and log rides make the place look more like an Endorian Ewok village than a mountain bike trail. Much of what you see here was built totally out of necessity to make the terrain traversable, but not all of it. After all, these are mountain bikers we’re talking about. Although we didn’t meet any of the builders there, it was easy to get a sense of their personalities by looking at the stuff they built. Where wooden features aren’t necessary, you’ll find mind numbingly extensive rock work, akin to a double black Roubaix winding its way through the forest. I can’t imagine the amount of back breaking labor it took to move and position these all in place. It may seem like overkill for bike tires, but it’s probably the forest that will put the biggest hurting on these surfaces. Sometimes, the most sensible route involves circumventing the terrain entirely. If you plan on riding the double blacks at Fromme, I’d suggest dismounting a few times on your first run. There’s no shame in scoping this stuff out before riding it, although I was pretty excited to clear more ground. As we made our way down the mountain, the trails got worse, in a really good way. If you’re watching this video saying “oh that doesn’t look so bad” I encourage you visit Fromme. Seeing this stuff in 3D is pretty humbling. As someone who lives for super technical trails, I think Fromme may have been one of the funnest places I’ve ever ridden in my life. I had a flight to catch after our ride, so we grabbed some food and said our goodbyes. For any mountain biker with the resources to travel, this region is worth an annual visit. It lives up to the hype, even if you never touch a lift. The totally unique trails, amazing wood and rock work, technical difficulty, and cool summertime weather are all reasons to venture to the promised land. How about you guys? How many of you have visited the PNW, and how may of you are lucky enough to live there? Have you ridden the North Shore? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time.

From the 1960s through to the 90s radio DJs used Cart machines to play jingles and now I've managed to get hold of one. In this video I get to try out the tech by playing some interesting old recordings. -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan Patrons usually have early access to videos ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------THANKS TO ------- Jerobeam Fenderson for the intro animation: http://oscilloscopemusic.com/ ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM Additional Information: Here are a few things that have already been discussed about the video on Patreon that might help answer a few potential questions. 1) Cue Tones - and the lack of recognition on my machine The stereo Dr Dre cart would most likely have its cue track in a configuration that my mono machine can't read…however none of the cue tones on my mono carts were triggering anything with my machine..including the one I recorded on it. 2) Scarcity - It may seem surprising that working cart machines aren't easy to find on the second hand market in the UK but I suspect that any working models are still in demand in the radio industry so there's no need to sell them off on ebay. It’s just the old broken models that end up there. 3) Blanked Carts - The jingles "Fastest Thing in the Air" and "TGIF (which turns out to be Thank Goodness It's Fun) are jingles created by the Jingle company “Pams” in 1964 that were used by a number of radio stations https://www.pams.com/cuts-27.html 4) Who is Kenny Lynn? - I found details of some club DJs in the UK with a similar name however jingles on carts are something a radio DJ would use…so I’m not sure what station they were from. However just for the record...I'm really not looking to find anything out about this chap...I was just mentioning that I couldn't tell you much about him. But for those people who are (bizarrely) suggesting it's `Kenny Lynch" - that's a different name with a shhh sound at the end. Listen to the jingles again and you'll hear it's "Here's Kenny Lynn" with no shhh sound at the end. Also to anyone suggesting it's the famous UK DJ and TV personality 'Kenny Everett'...I really can't account for what's happening in your head. 5) A few people wanted to 'correct me' to say that carts didn't use mobius loops and the reverse isn't recorded on. This 'correction' is wrong - they did and they do and mine is and here's an article from 1959 explaining the process https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=SSEEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA24&dq=fidelipac%20%22mobius%20loop%22&pg=PA24#v=onepage&q=fidelipac%20%22mobius%20loop%22&f=false and here's a video where I PLAY BOTH SIDES OF THE TAPE - https://youtu.be/u36gcUdwjkc 6) Anyone interested in hearing the backing music for the Kenny Lyn spots - here it is in full: https://youtu.be/4E5AXF0R2tE Q) What type of self adhesive sponge did I use to repair the Cartridge? A) Stokvis TLD9624 I bought it at Clas Ohlson - it might be this one (but I'm not 100%). http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Dust-Seal/34-4093

We cap off the series of lectures on the Middle Ages by piecing together how the people of the high and late Middle Ages understood their place in the cosmos. From the lowliest peasants to popes and emperors, medievals believed they formed the limbs of a living, breathing social body, and that body or tree was part of a Great Chain of Being connecting rocks and dirt to stars and planets and ultimately to God. Through these metaphors we can understand why medievals disapproved of commerce and abhorred high finance. We end with a commentary on the great, crowning statement of the late medieval mind, the prologue to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. This week Hanna and Monique discuss the specific areas that need to be addressed to conserve this delicate embroidery.
