We examine how medieval scholars battled over the meanings of ancient Greek and Roman philosophy and of the Christian religion, while illiterate artisans made breakthroughs in architecture, engineering, metallurgy, and alchemy. The vast body of medieval scholarship came under attack during the Renaissance as so many "metaphysical obscurities," while today we stand on the precipice of a true Dark Age of ignorance. We examine the long train of crusading expeditions of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, from the triumphs of Richard the Lionheart to the trainwreck of the sack of Constantinople. We consider the many ways that modern myths have distorted the Crusades for political purposes and erased the Crusaders' central motivation: control of Jerusalem. Watch the video to see the camera dive into my engine and record my cylinders and pistons. I also check to see if it can retrieve bolts from tight spaces, inspect exhaust manifolds for crack and look for leaks in tight spaces. There's also a review of the camera itself and a short tutorial on how to set up the endoscope camera to work with your android smartphone. A quick look at a 7" 45rpm picture disc I got made up with my own picture and music from http://vinylart.co/ UPDATE - 17 November 2017 - I've been informed by a viewer that the Discount Code has now expired - sorry. Oh and a couple of viewers suggested that I should sell merchandise, so as a trial I've made up a t-shirt with the same picture as on the record https://tspr.ng/c/techmoan-green-muppet Although to me the prices seem bit steep for a t-shirt that just makes you look like a nutter. -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan Patrons usually have early access to videos ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------THANKS TO ------- Jerobeam Fenderson for the intro animation: http://oscilloscopemusic.com/ ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM

In mountain biking, the act of hopping one’s bike is called a bunnyhop. The particular technique shown here is known is an American bunnyhop, but to me hopping is hopping. Learning to hop or learning to hop higher may be one of your priorities. It allows you to more easily get over obstacles, change the orientation of your bike, go higher on jumps, and most importantly have more fun. So today we’ll revisit the bunnyhop with a fresh explanation. First of all, your bike doesn’t matter much. Full suspension, full rigid, hardtail, flat pedals, clipless pedals, they’re all fine. I’ve done my highest hops on on hardtails with flat pedals, but as you can see Brian is doing it clipped in on a full squish. This is me last summer, bunnyhopping a 60 pound Walmart bike with water in the tires. So as far as learning goes, any mountain bike is just fine. No matter what bike you have, go ahead and drop your seat as low as it can go. This will give you more room to maneuver your bike while learning. To bunnyhop, you need to jump yourself into the air and take your bike with you. You weigh a lot more than your bike, so think of it as a passenger. So if you can’t do this, then it’s going to be even harder while holding your bike. Make sense? Now on to the technique. The first step is to practice getting into the meerkat position. That is, standing straight up with your bars at your waist. For starters you can just try getting your front wheel off the ground. A lot of people have trouble with this part in particular, and it usually comes down to the preload. By this, I mean forcing your weight downwards before you pop up. If your bike has suspension it’ll compress, and you should pop back up in sync with it. And remember, it’s you that’s popping up and your bike that’s coming along with you. Don’t do this. Do this. Once you get the hang of that, you can go full meerkat by snapping your bars to your waist. Okay so preload, meerkat position, what now? Well, now all you have to do is lunge forwards. It’s really that simple. Of course this will only get you so high, but you now have the tools to go higher. While going meerkat you should be jumping straight upwards. See? Jump up, snap your bars to your waist, and continue to jump upwards. If you do it with enough force, your bike can come along for the ride. Don’t worry about your pedals, don’t worry about what kind of bike you have, just meerkat. Learning to bunny hop takes practice, and then you need to learn to time it. As you approach an obstacle you need to know when to start pulling up so you won’t case it. I recommend practicing with some sticks or branches to keep the stakes low. After a while, you’ll get it. I hope you found this tutorial helpful, or at least entertaining. If you still have questions, check the playlist below for different approaches and explanations I’ve done. If you have any bunny hop tips, share them below so we can all learn. Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. In 1675 (or thereabouts) telling the time in the middle of the night was no easy task. You couldn't simply flick a light switch and look at a clock. To get around this problem the British clockmaker Edward East came up with an ingenious device – the night clock. The night clock's illuminated dials meant that you could tell the time at any time – day or night. The only problem? You had to use an oil lamp to illuminate the numbers, and like most clocks, the night clock had a wooden case... Berm Creek Upgrades! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2ymXuOvTcc Welcome to Berm Creek. Here’s the berm. And here’s the creek you’ll end up in if you don’t use it. For the past few weeks I’ve been building trails at Berm Creek, or I’ve been doing my best to. If you want to build good trails—sustainable trails, Berm Creek could be a case study in what not to do. Take and gander, and you’ll find half baked retaining walls, poor drainage, and singletrack so skinny that your pedals hit the sides. Still, I’m learning fast, and with a little luck Berm Creek will have vastly improved by the Fall. Let me show you what I’ve built so far. This is the first trail, aptly named Berm Creek. You start on this steep descent which throws you right into a tiny berm. You can really lean into it and it’s a lot of fun. An optional line would be this rock garden, but I’ll only use that on special occasions. After the berm is a little detour up the hill, a turn around this tree and finally a fork in the trail. Right of the fork is Coax Climb. It’s too muddy to ride now. To the left is a detour called Goodman Ledge. It has a switchback so tight that I’m not even sure it can be ridden. When it dries we’ll find out. Either path takes you back to the trailhead. This area after the berm is right next to a drainage pipe, so I need to do something about that. We’ll call it a creek crossing. I’ve always had respect and appreciation for trail builders, but now it runs deeper. The more dirt I move here, the more bummed out I get about tire ruts and all the damage that occurs when the trails are ridden wet. I can only imagine what it’s like to have hundreds of other people riding my trails, without any regard for who maintains the place. Of course I won’t need to worry about that. You may have figured out by now that Berm Creek is in my backyard. Still, I always seem to get lost here. Like every good trail system, Berm Creek needs a trail map. The map doesn’t have elevation profiles or data, but it’s still pretty awesome. Awesome enough to have a permanent spot at the trailhead. For this, I’m cobbling something together out of wooden planks. To cut acrylic you need to score it with a blade, but I didn’t have much luck with that. The jigsaw was worse. Eventually I figured it out. Now we’re in business. These brown fiberglas markers are just like the ones in Pisgah. I got these stickers online too. These trails are designed for bikes, and trail dogs. Nothing against ATV’s or Horses, but I don’t have the space or resources to deal with that. Tomorrow I’ll install my trail markers, and hopefully it will dry up enough to do some riding. My markers are installed, but it rained again last night. According to the weather it’ll rain again today, but dry up by tomorrow afternoon. By then, I’ll have some visitors to ride the trails with. My friends Brian and Alexander came by and helped me break in the trail. We had a lot of fun, and even encountered some challenges. I almost flew into the creek. Now that the trails are worn in there are some things I’d like to change, and add, but all in all I think Berm Creek is off to a good start. The real purpose of these trails is for testing. When making adjustments to a bike, I can have a quick romp to make sure everything feels right. You could say that these trails are just an extension of my shop. What do you guys think? Have any of you built something like this in your yard? Do you maintain trails in your community? Let me know in the comments, and give me some insight into what to do next. Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. Keyboards. They've been with us for a while, and they've come in many subtle guises. Some of these keyboards are better than others. Some are absolutely terrible, but have a compelling charm about them. In this video I discuss my personal 5 worst computer keyboards and the reasons behind them. Regardless, I still love them to pieces. But you've gotta admit, typing on a ZX81 is a tad difficult. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Feeler gauge/ leaf gauge you will ned to check valve clearance: https://amzn.to/2oPFOHE Want to check and adjust your valve clearance? Here's how. So, the other day I heard a weird noise coming from my engine. Shut it off, contemplated suicide, but then pulled my sh*t together and decided to investigate. Is it rod knock? piston slap? valve clatter? or something else entirely? Well, I won't know until I rule them out one by one. I decided with to start with the simple and least expensive possible cause which is valve noise due to valve clearance (valve lash) being out of adjustment. I had a machine shop set up my valve clearance according to the numbers I gave them, but I never checked them. So I took off my cam covers, got my feeler gauge and measured my valve clearances. All were within spec, which is kinda sad as it means I will probably have to dig deeper to uncover the culprit behind my engine noise. Stay tuned for more videos.
