What goes up, must come down... Welcome to the story of the Commodore Amiga. This is part 1 of a 2 part documentary exploring the history and story of the mighty Amiga from its conception through to its buyout by Commodore. This episode deals with the "up" part of the story, and takes place during the 1980s. It charts the conception of the Lorraine machine (that would become the first Commodore Amiga), the early years and team spent working on the machine, the buyout of Atari followed by Commodore, the launch of the original Commodore Amiga machine (later renamed the Amiga 1000) and the subsequent Amiga 2000 and Amiga 500 machines which conclude before 1989 is out. In the second part, we'll look at the 1990s, when the Amiga peaked and then fell to its regrettable demise. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Maggi Hambling talks to Hugo Chapman, Keeper of Prints and Drawings, about her exhibition 'Touch: works on paper' at the British Museum – a retrospective of Hambling's prints and drawings, many of which have never been exhibited before. Although mainly known for her paintings and sculpture, drawing is at the heart of Hambling’s artistic practice. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to follow Hambling’s development as a graphic artist, from her early student works including her compelling 'portrait' of Rosie, a stuffed rhinoceros, to celebrated prints of the sea and a new climate change drawing completed just last year. A drawing and sculpture celebrate the flamboyant Soho personality and muse, Henrietta Moraes and there are intimate drawings of Hambling's father as he aged and on his deathbed. As Hambling says, 'I'm well known for painting and drawing people long after they're dead... artists are lucky in that they can grieve in a very positive way. I'm trying to make these drawings as alive as possible even though the subject is dead, because they're still alive inside me.' Subscribe for new videos!. SO YOU WANT A DISTORTION FOR YOUR GUITAR/SYNTH/DRUM MACHINE/BAG PIPES whatever. this is a good place to start. NOW! you got your cereal. remember the times you got free prizes at the bottom, well now it can be some effects. all you need are these items, which i have put together here for you :- http://lookmumnocomputer.bigcartel.com/…/distortion-box-par… over on the look mum no computer store. you can definitely source them yourself! it won't be hard going in with this list into your local electronics store and coming out with those parts, they are extremely common electronic components :- 2x Jack Sockets 1x 100k Potentiometer 1x 100k Resistor 1x 100nf capacitor 1x 1n4148 1x 1uf electrolytic capacitor 1x 9V battery socket Wire. enough to complete the project and some electronic paint, i used Bare Conductive's awesome paint for this. not only does it make the connections it does a really good job of sticking it all together. however i would HIGHLY recommend if you know how to solder, doing it the soldered way! as the cardboard is bendy and it might be a little fragile. for info on the soldered version here is a video i did earlier in the year :- https://www.facebook.com/GoHackMusic/videos/691826067587248/ and even a little how to online magazine! :- http://issuu.com/zibra/docs/fuzz_for_a_fiver which can be done with exactly the same parts. SOME POINTERS TO LOOK OUT FOR!!! when your glueing, don't use much superglue! because the superglue has a tendency of covering all of the metal on the components legs, making them not conduct!!! so make sure there is a good bare connection with no superglue in the way. if it doesn't work first time! look at your painting, maybe paint again over it, i had a couple of failed attempts first and i found my problems were in the grounding painting, i didn't put enough blobs on the grounds of the jacks. ALSO!!! for some reason i guess because of the natural resistance in the paint (have a look on their site there is a certain amount! i think because of that within the grounding it picks up radio waves. which is pretty sweet. this is never going to be perfect, but its a pretty funky side effect. overall i think its quite a powerful thing for such little components, i have a number of iterations of this circuit in and around my studio, wether its in a synth module. or inside an effects pedal enclosure. maybe stretch yourself and add a switch, search up DPDT switch, and work out a way to turn it off and on, but also when that happens it also turns off and on the positive wire of the battery, so that doesn't run dry! Speaking to RT last Wednesday, prominent American linguist, scholar and activist Noam Chomsky discussed the importance of DiEM25 in addressing what’s wrong with the EU. "If the Union falls apart, I think it would be a tragic development. I think that’s the importance of groups like Varoufakis’ DiEM25. They want to preserve what’s good about the European Union and overcome the problems within it. That seems to me the more constructive approach." If you’re going to be riding more than a few miles it’s a good idea to be prepared. A lot can happen out on the trails, including mechanical problems, injuries, and even dehydration. The last thing you want to worry about is a trailside bathroom emergency, and that’s just one of the many reasons why you should take your PRD, or pre ride dump. Yeah, I know it’s a tasteless topic, but it’s important. To be fair, I’m not the first one to bring it up either. Roadies have been openly talking about this stuff for as long as competitive cycling has existed. They’re like mad scientists when it comes to data and weight reduction. Most mountain bikers are just happy to be on the trails, but there are some things we can learn from the roadies. First of all, a PRD saves weight. Some people spend thousands on wheels, or put less sealant in their tires just to save a few grams. Even a PRP can weigh more than sealant, so why not take advantage of some free weight reduction? It’s hard to argue with that, but if you’re still not convinced there are loads of other benefits. Take, for instance, the space it frees up in your abdomen. Being hunched over your handlebars for hours can take its toll, especially if you’re downing water and cliff bars. Any space you can free up will make you more comfortable for the long haul, and even leave room for tacos after your ride. Getting back to my first point though, perhaps the most important benefit of the PRD is eliminating the possibility of a DRD, or “during ride dump” Anyone who’s had the misfortune of a DRD knows you’re not the same for the rest of the ride. There’s not a whole lot that mountain bikers are scared of, but the risk of a possible DRD can be absolutely terrifying. So even if you make it back to the trailhead without incident, your mental game will never be 100%. Better to clear your mind, and take care of business before you hit the trails. So to review, the PRD saves weight, makes you feel less bloated, prepares you mentally, and adds a degree of predictability to your ride. To top it off, it’s totally free. On a cost/benefit basis, a PRD is high yield. I'm sold. So this raises an obvious question; How do you time it? Luckily, Google is your friend. Phrase it any way you like, and you’ll get a crazy amount of advice from riders, runners, climbers, and even surfers. No sport is left out of this, and the concerns are the same across the board. So if you plan on making this a priority, there are no shortage of proven strategies to fit your lifestyle. To go the all natural route, wake up early and get moving. Walk around your block, or climb some stairs. You should also stay well hydrated both the night before and the morning of your ride. Eating foods high in fiber is an almost obvious measure you can take as well. As for me, so much as looking at a cup of espresso is enough to get things moving. Coffee drinkers already know this, but you don’t need to get addicted to caffeine to take a PRD. If it’s a long ride, or an important ride, you’ll wake up early and leave yourself time to PRD before the big race. So I’m happy to say that we’re almost done talking about this subject, because I know you guys are going to PRD all over the comment section. If you have any tricks or tips, I guess let me know in as little detail as possible. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time.
An unusual big plastic gold egg from the 1980s I haven't been able to find out any additional details regarding this in magazines or adverts other than there was also a white model (which I've seen sold on eBay). The model is Talking Egg (TE 100) and it was made in Japan. The instruction booklet and warranty show the address as Seiko Instruments U.S.A. Inc. Consumer Products Division, 2990 W. Lomita Blvd, Torrance, CA 90505 You can view this document on my website: http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2016/12/3/seiko-executive-talking-egg.html It's likely that the word Sekisui printed on the base refers to Sekisui Plastics of Japan who could have manufactured the outer casing. Today we will be doing a demonstration of the Tollen's test and use it to make a silver mirror. The Tollen's test is mainly used to identify aldehyde groups (forms a silver mirror) and it was historically used a lot. It was slowly replaced with more accurate and better techniques. However, it is still very useful for hobbyist who can't afford big expensive machines. The silver mirror is kind of an off-shoot of the Tollen test, where all we are after is the mirror that forms. We use glucose because it is a cheap and easy aldehyde source. In the future, I might make a video where I identify an uknown chemical using a series of classic techniques. I spent a few days down in Pitalito, in Huila. I was filming a little TV for next year, and I wish I had had more time to shoot stuff for me. I can't complain though. ‘Although I was a prisoner [at Robben Island] for seven years, I also started working there when they opened [it] as a museum. So I had lots of time association with Robben Island not as a place of banishment but as a place of learning, of education, of bringing people together.’ Lionel Davis (b. 1936) ‘Reclamation’ is a self-portrait by South African artist and former political prisoner Lionel Davis. Through integrating maps of District Six and Robben Island, as well as poetry into his self-portrait, Davis’ work speaks of his personal, as well as the collective need to reclaim not only the self but also the many physical things stolen by apartheid. It's not hard to make things safer. But sometimes people don't think about the tools they already have. With a simple reprogramming of an engine computer and perhaps with the addition of a sensor or two, the Jeep that killed Anton Yelchin could have saved his life. If cars were able to detect that their driver had exited, accidental rolling of a car could be a thing of the past. If we're lucky, it will quickly become one.

This episode is all about how we can draw ray diagrams to figure out qualitatively the positions and the nature of images given the position of the objects. The demos should help reinforce the concept and make you see what real and virtual images truly are. At the end I also have a small visual quiz for you to test your understanding. Alex and I decided to drive out to Clermont to climb Florida's biggest hill, known as Sugarloaf mountain. This would be a pretty average hill anywhere else, but we couldn't resist the novelty. Surprisingly it's almost a 15% grade in some places, and goes on for about a half mile. If you've been to Florida you'll find this pretty amusing. Transcript: If you spend enough time on Wikipedia, it’s easy to get sucked into the wormhole. Recently I came across a list of the biggest hills—in Florida. This is only interesting because Florida is known for being flat everywhere. Alex and I set out to climb the biggest of these hills on our bikes, and naturally treated the whole endeavor like one big joke. The hill in this picture doesn’t look bad at all, but then again, nothing does on the screen of your iPhone. Sugarloaf mountain is the most prominent point in Florida, at 245 feet above the surrounding land. The elevation at the summit is 312—hardly a snow capped peak, but still pretty unusual for the sunshine state. In fact, it bests the biggest hills in both Louisiana and Delaware. I’ve shown videos riding the North Shore of Long Island New York, which is known for being hilly. Clermont is hillier than that in most places. For some reason we decided to tackle Sugarloaf mountain in the wrong order, descending it first before climbing back up. Alex was wearing flip flops and had his arm in a sling, and I was on a 36 pound fat tire BMX. That was a hill. Those who live by the sword, must die by the sword. It was time to pedal this monster back to the summit. The climb took about five minutes, and it wasn’t that bad, but we were still amazed. Imagine seeing a palm tree in Denver, or a snowflake in Miami. Imagine seeing a rabbi at a Nascar race. I guess what I’m trying to say is that some things are interesting because they’re unexpected. Sugarloaf mountain definitely falls under this category, and so does this whole area North of Orlando. Naturally, you’d wonder if there are any bike trails around these parts, and there are. Mount Dora has trails, and so does Ocala, with over 85 miles of singletrack and a huge freeride section built in an old quarry. As for Clermont, many road cyclists frequent the area for year round riding and a little taste of elevation. If you’re from Florida and you ride bikes, Sugarloaf mountain should be on your bucket list, just to say you did. As for Alex and I, it was worth the drive just for the laughs. We were definitely not expecting to see a legitimate hill in Florida. Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time.

UPDATE: It was brought to my attention a much much better way to store it. The mercury should be put in the bottle without adding water. The bottle is then stored in a bag full of sulfur. Storing it under water will inevitably lead to it becoming all gross again. Okay, I am finally posting the mercury distillation video. This was obviously dangerous to do, so please don't try to repeat what you see here! In this series, we'll explore the complex landscape of machine learning and artificial intelligence through one example from the field of computer vision: using a decision tree to count the number of fingers in an image. It's gonna be crazy. Supporting Code: https://github.com/stephencwelch/LearningToSee welchlabs.com @welchlabs

This is Sonic the Hedgehog on the NES courtesy of http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3208/ - Originally a hack of the game Somari. This version replaces the Mario sprite with Sonic himself and blasts you into a close approximation of the Sega Mega Drive Classic. To play you can grab a NES emulator and the IPS file from http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3208/. After that grab LunarIPS from http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/ and Somari from http://www.freeroms.com/rom/nes/somari.htm. Open LunarIPS, click on "ApplyIPS", navigate to the IPS file followed by the original Somari ROM and you are ready to play! After seeing how binary counting can solve the towers of Hanoi puzzle in the last video, here we see how ternary counting solve a constrained version of the puzzle, and how this gives a way to walk through a Sierpinski triangle graph structure. Binary counting can solve the towers of Hanoi puzzle, and if this isn't surprising enough, it can lead to a method for finding a curve that fills Sierpinski's triangle (which I get to in part 2).
