‘I’m looking at history and I want to distort it, I want to turn it upside down, I want to question it, I want to punch it, I want to love it.’ Mary Sibande (b. 1982) In ‘A Reversed Retrogress: Scene 1 (The Purple Shall Govern)’, artist Mary Sibande provides a powerful personal and collective commentary on the past, present and future of South Africa through two figures, both cast from her own body. The blue figure, called Sophie, refers to Sibande’s mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who were maids in white South African households. The second figure, in purple, represents Sibande herself. The Purple Shall Govern relates to the statement ‘the people shall govern’, from the 1955 Freedom Charter and post-apartheid constitution. It also refers to the Purple Rain Protests of 1989, when protesters captured the police water cannon being used to spray them with purple dye and turned it on their assailants. Over the following days the slogan ‘the purple shall govern’ was painted on walls around Cape Town. Although a tension remains, Sibande is saying goodbye to Sophie, her past, and confronting the ‘purple’ present and future. This is a re-upload with the audio channels fixed. Now both of your ears can enjoy the video. If you liked it before, please like it again! Sorry for the clickbait title, those cops were actually cool as hell. Today is thanksgiving, and I have a lot of things to be thankful for. The other day James and I went out to film, and the footage revealed that my Hero Session was pointed towards my helmet the entire time. So instead, of coming home with lots of clips, I came home with an hour of the inside of my helmet. This is a good example of a problem I experience these days, which means things are going pretty good! I'm thankful to have such a fun life, and I'm very thankful for all of your support. So as always, thanks for riding with me. Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy the food, and if you're not from the USA I'm sure you can still be thankful for something.

Fields are one of the most abstract concepts there is. They are used very often in physics, and getting an intuitive understanding of it is a must to appreciate the theories of electromagnetism and optics. So I give you an analogy which is not very accurate, but helps me get some intuition behind the field. So enjoy :)

Help me make even better content by giving me money without spending any money: https://www.gawkbox.com/profile/D4A Thank you for your support! How to drop the engine in a Toyota MR2 mk1, with specs for the wood you see in the video: http://www.driving4answers.com/how-to-remove-the-engine-mr2-mk1/ Back when I decided to rebuild my engine on my Toyota MR2 myself the first obstacle I ran into was actually lifting my car high enough in my garage to be able to start working on the underside, disconnect stuff, and eventually drop the engine. Since the engine in mid-engined cars isn't lifted out, its actually dropped the rear of the car needs to be raised quite high for the engine to clear the car. Lifting a car high enough for this without a professional post lift is a real challenge. Most jack stands don't lift the car enough, the same goes for car ramps. So after quite a bit of research I found and unlikely solution: wood. Wood is actually plenty strong as long is unprocessed raw natural wood. What I used are small wooden planks (approx 3 cm thick, 30cm long and 5 cm wide) that I stacked into wooden towers to act as wooden jacked stands. It is a lot slower than a professional car post lift, or scissor lift, but when done right it is just as safe and costs 10 times less. My car (Toyota Mr2) spent more than 2 years on these DIY wooden jack stands without absolutely any deterioration of the wood. Another very important note is that screws or nails must not be used on the wooden planks, as this can start cracks and splits in the wood and kill you. You are responsible for your safety when working around the car. Check everything before going underneath the car and make sure its 100% safe. Don't rush things and don't cut corners. #d4a #diy #wood #carlift #4age #4age16v #aw11 #ae86 #4agebigport #mr2mk1 #mr2 #toyota #jdm #celica #corolla #starlet #ke70 #fx16

As you may have heard, this years IMBA World Summit was held in Northwest Arkansas—which is a pretty big deal. This is, after all, one of the biggest events in terms of mountain biking advocacy, so the host community is always an exemplary location. Arkansas has been flying under the radar, quietly building and refining their mountain biking infrastructure. On their website: Mountain biking. In the airport: Mountain biking. It’s clear to see that they’re all-in.My trip was fully sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism. This could influence my review, but honestly I think it says something about their commitment to mountain biking. Instead of looking at mountain bike trails as fringe attractions, Bentonville has put them front and center. A network of paved paths, called the Razorback Regional Greenway, connect from Bentonville north to Fayetteville south. They’re easily accessible from almost any location in the city. A lot of the connected trails are part of Slaughter Pen, which is the first system I rode after landing in Bentonville. From the airport, I went straight to Phat Tire bike shop in. Only minutes after grabbing my rental bike, I was climbing a switchback in Slaughter Pen.My favorite parts of Slaughter pen have a lot of manmade features like jumps, berms, and flow tracks. Because the system features a network of short trails strung together, your ride can be as long or short as you want. One easily accessible spot starts with a mellow switchback climb leading to a sweet downhill flow track. At the bottom you can climb back up and hit it again. If you prefer a more natural setting, Blowing Springs loop gives you the best of both worlds. I met with some friends to ride here on Friday, and it was quite literally right outside their front door.If you’re like me, you’ll appreciate riding directly into downtown after your ride. Of course you don’t need to eat a hambuger placed between two grilled cheese sandwiches, but you can. Bentonville actually has a lot of other options though. On a trip to Northwest Arkansas, you could stay occupied for days without a rental car or shuttle. Staying in Bentonville puts you really close to the airport, and right in the middle of all this stuff. From the bike shop you can pedal just about anywhere. Travel into the adjacent town, and you’ll find a public free ride facility called Rail Yard. I wish I grew up with a playground like this. While I do enjoy a more urban experience, the most memorable rides are the ones where you get lost in the woods. Venture into the Ozark Mountains and you’ll find 5 IMBA Epic rides. The trails out in Upper Buffalo provide a genuine backwoods experience. It’s best to come prepared, and bring a riding buddy along as Alex and I realized. A typical mishap like a flat tire or injury can become pretty serious when you’re isolated from civilization.Alex was really bummed about cutting his ride short, but insisted that I finish on both of our behalf’s. That said, in I went to Azalea falls alone with no cell reception. Despite this questionable decision, I ended up with some companions rather quickly. I would never consider a subscriber ride to be complete without a challenge.Bentonville is on my shortlist for a repeat visit. I absolutely need to go back for a longer trip, spend some more time with the locals, and ride all the downtown trails in their entirety. Of course I expected Arkansas to have great trails and a vibrant mountain biking scene, after all IMBA did choose them to host World Summit. What didn’t expect though was the infrastructure surrounding and connecting the trails. I didn’t expect the sheer amount of stuff to ride right off the main thoroughfare. As you may have heard over the past few weeks, Arkansas is the new hotspot. So until my next visit, thanks Arkansas for being a good host! To all the subscribers I ran into, thanks for riding with me, I will definitely see you next time. ******************** #VisitArkansas http://arkansas.com IMBA Epic: In the video I mentioned that Arkansas is tied with Colorado, meaning at the time of this video they both have the same amount of IMBA Epic rides. Sponsored Video: This trip was sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism. All opinions expressed in the video are my own. Rental Bike: The bike shop in the video is Phat Tire in Bentonville. Check them out! http://phattirebikeshop.com/

In this video we talk mostly about what to look for in a good beginner bike, namely the things that make it affordable, functional, reliable, and easy to upgrade later on. These are the bare bones things a trail worthy mountain bike should have. We also talk a bit about helmets, and why you might want to spend a bit more on a better one. ****** Last time, we set Lisa up with everything she needed to start mountain biking. She now has a bike, a helmet, a hydration pack, gloves, and a multi tool. She also has a floor pump, and a rack to transport her bike with. As Lisa progresses we’ll be looking at all this stuff in more detail, but today we’re going to focus on the two things you need most to get on the trails: A bike, and a helmet. Even if you don’t have your own bike—even if you plan on renting a bike, I still recommend you get your own helmet wearing someone else’s helmet kinda freaks me out. Lisa is wearing a Kali Protectives Chakra, which would be considered a general purpose mountain biking helmet. It’s lightweight, has good ventilation, fits securely, and looks cool, which are all things you might spend a couple of extra dollars for. Really cheap helmets are usually bulky, uncomfortable, and poorly ventilated, and that’s no fun. The Chakra, like most bike helmets is single impact, so it’s only made to protect your head once. If your helmet gets impacted, it should be replaced even if the damage isn’t visible. In my experience, shoes wear out before helmets do, so don’t cheap on a helmet just because you might need to replace it. Even a real good one is under $50. For the rest of this video, we’ll be talking about bikes; specifically, what should you look for in a good beginner bike? Well the four ities of course. The four ities are: affordability, reliability, serviceability, and simplicity. To find a bike with all four ities, you can go to a bike shop, search online, and even buy used. Rather than tell you exactly what to get and where to get it from, I’d rather help you understand what to look for so you can choose a bike on your own. I’ll be using Lisa’s bike as an example, because I chose it specifically for these reasons. At around $650, the Hook is of pretty good value. In the last video I mentioned that this is a hardtail, meaning it only has a suspension fork. This, as opposed to a full suspension bike that squishes down in the rear as well. While full suspension bikes are great, they’re also a lot more complex than hardtails. This complexity adds cost, weight, and additional maintenance, so only go this route if you’re comfortable spending some extra money. Figure on at least 500 for a trailworthy hardtail, and at least 1200 for full suspension. These are just guidelines, and I stress that the first ity might be different for different people. Let’s take a look at some other characteristics of Lisa’s bike. First of all it has disc brakes, as opposed to rim brakes. Disc brakes are virtually maintenance free besides changing the pads, and they’ll stop the bike even when it’s covered in dirt and mud. These are activated by cable, but more expensive bikes use hydraulic fluid. While hydraulic is better, any disc brake is better than a rim brake. Moving on you can see that Lisa’s wheels have quick release levers, which make removal of the wheels possible without tools. More expensive bikes will come a very similar looking thru axle. On the other hand if a mountain bike wheel is held on with nuts, you are looking at an extreme cost cutting measure which will make the bike difficult to maintain and next to impossible to upgrade. Aside from specialty bikes like dirt jumpers, you want a mountain bike with levers on the axles. Turn on the closed captions to read the rest of the transcript.

The Atari Jaguar. The world's first 64 bit games console. Do the Math. This is how the Atari Jaguar was sold, and I for one, loved it. Launched initially in 1993 in North America, and then the rest of the world in 1994, the Jaguar was a machine which seemed to skip an entire generation of games consoles. Whilst everyone else was playing around with their 16 bits or even 32 bits, Atari smashed it out of the park with 64. Many claimed that it wasn't a true 64 bit console, but with a 64 bit data bus, it really does slot into the common definition of 64 bit, it's just a shame that bits aren't the only gauge of a machine's abilities, and not long after, the Playstation and Saturn would wash away Atari's final hopes and dreams. Still, it's a drastically under-rated console, which could have performed so much more than developers had the time or inclination for. Thankfully a few games, such as Alien vs. Predator and Tempest 2000 show us it's true abilities and are as much fun to play today as ever. Join me on this quest through time charting the story of Atari and their doomed 64 bit console, including the Jaguar's little brother, the Atari Panther and the range of consoles that came before and paved the way. Also if you're looking for Jaguar games, then you won't be disappointed. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! This is the tool: https://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/derailleur-hanger-alignment-gauge/ Although derailleurs can look intimidating, they’re actually pretty easy to adjust. We learned this in another video. The thing is, adjusting your cable tension, limits, and B screw doesn’t always do the trick. Old cables, improper routing, worn parts, and a whole host of other things can make your bike shift like total garbage. It’s no surprise that I had shifting problems after that crash. On the ride home, I needed to mess with the barrel adjuster just to keep it from ghost shifting everywhere. You can keep dicking with your derailleur to no avail, or you could get down to the root of the problem: the part it’s mounted to. So first of all, why does this happen so often? Well hangers are strategic failure points. They are designed to be weaker than your frame or derailleur so that they will fail. When your rear mech gets impacted, the hanger bends or snaps. This is better than the derailleur itself breaking, but even more importantly, it protects your frame. When an impact isn’t big enough to snap your hanger, it gets tweaked. You can stare at it all you want, but you’ll rarely be able to see which way it’s bent. Usually it’s tweaked in all sorts of directions, but we could just replace it right? Good luck with that early on a Sunday morning. Derailleur hangers are specific to your bike frame, so while shops will usually have a whole bin of them, it’s often times a special order item. Lucky for me, Alexander had a specialty tool that would save the day. This tool isn’t just for bike shops. Anyone who does a fair amount of mountain biking can benefit big time from a derailleur hanger alignment tool. The concept is simple; the tool threads into your hanger, and allows you to compare it to your rear wheel. Even if your rear wheel is bent, you can gauge it against a reference point like the valve stem as you move around the wheel’s radius. The trick is to make the gauge skim along the edge of your wheel at the same distance in all places. It’s easy to see where you need to tweak it out, or in. Now I actually keep replacement hangers around, since they’re bound to snap, but in this case I was unprepared. Hangers are also more expensive than you would think, making the cost of a gauge pretty palatable. This Park Tool model is what a professional bike mechanic would use, and it’s under $70. A cheap one barely costs more than a new hanger does. So even if you buy a top of the line model it could save you money, but more importantly it can get you back on the trail right away. Now I’ve bent back derailleur hangers by hand before, with varying levels of success. When Alex did it with the gauge, it was flawless, just like a new hanger. So if you’re scratching your head trying to figure out why your bike shifts like garbage, more likely than not your hanger is out of alignment. You could order a new one, go to a shop, or try your luck with the adjustable wrench trick. While those options sound great, I’m leaning towards buying that tool to avoid getting stuck again. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. It looks like a triangle, so that's what I called it. BONGOS There is one second of audio at the end of this video of bongos that should not be in this video - a number of people think that this is a conspiracy and a way to 'troll' them(?!?).......here's the true reason that one second of bongo audio is in this video........ It was an editing error. Every video starts off with a copy and paste of the previous one to retain the up to date patreon list. All audio is deleted apart from the intro and outro music. One second of audio from the previous video was not deleted in error. So that's it - as always, real life is rarely as exciting as an overactive imagination. First of all, subscribe to Alex's channel (The Singletrack Sampler) for high quality, stabilized footage of some of the best trails in the country: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfUGBBnxQYezwJM9wi3F-Lg?sub_confirmation=1 After two amazing days riding in Northwest Arkansas at IMBA World Summit, Alex and I headed out into one of the most remote areas of the Ozark Mountains to ride an IMBA Epic Certified trail system known as Upper Buffalo River. To make a long story short, things didn't work out the way we planned, and I found myself trying to get Alex's shoulder back into its socket with zero experience in the matter. Alex won't be riding for a bit, as we now know. At the time, we really didn't know much about dislocated shoulders, but it seems there is a fair amount of recovery time before he should go hard on it again. The fact that he's cool with me putting this footage up is a testament to how humble of a guy Alex is. His channel revolves around riding the gnarliest trails in the world, yet he fell on a little rock on a relatively smooth switchback. If you ain't falling, you ain't riding. Although everything turned out okay, it made me realize how unprepared I am for these situations. It could have been a half inch margin that meant him getting back on the bike, or his whole arm popping out of its socket. I'm going to take the time to prepare for future scenarios, having experienced this. For those of you who do want to see this from Alex's perspective, you should subscribe to his channel now. He's on a road trip and is backlogged with videos to upload, but his camera view will eventually be up. So, show Alex some love, subscribe to his growing channel, and as always, thanks for riding with me today, and I'll see you next time. Being told no is often a blessing in disguise. There are an endless amount of supercars in London, so while we were there we wanted to get a ride in the most luxurious one we could possibly find. Who knew how many times we'd get denied and what that would lead to... Yes Theory are four friends from four different countries who constantly seek discomfort in order to grow. Ammar, Thomas, Matt and Derin met in Montreal, Canada in the summer of 2015 and bonded over their shared desire to live a life that challenged and excited them. Fast forward to a year later, the team is now based out of Los Angeles, making a show on Snapchat Discover every Sunday on the Brother Channel. Enjoy! SHARE the love! And SUBSCRIBE for more.
