The Commodore Plus/4 released in 1984 was an attempt by Commodore to jump on the home productivity and business boat by creating a computer with built in business software. It failed, but it's still an interesting piece of computing history. Not compatible with the Commodore 64, but offering slightly different specifications, it has a reasonable amount of software and peripherals. In this video I'll be loading some games, typing in some code and looking at the Plus/4 in general. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Some people suggest they may be a better fit on Brady's dedicated physics channel (called Sixty Symbols). In response, the reasons they are on Numberphile are: 1) Tadashi, while certainly a modern polymath, is based in a mathematics department. 2) This sub series (with its animation and extra production work) has been supported by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, a Numberphile collaborator. 3) Some of the previous and future Tadashi videos are more math-oriented than physics - and it just makes sense to put them on one channel rather than dividing the series between two channels on an ad hoc basis. In a multi-disciplinary world, it is challenging to run YouTube channels which people come to associate with just one discipline. That said, feel free to go over and watch hundreds of physics videos on Sixty Symbols --- https://www.youtube.com/sixtysymbols

When I’m mountain biking, there’s nothing in the world I’d rather be doing, but ask me that when I’m laying in bed on Saturday morning and I’ll give you a very different answer. Even Drama would rather lay here than go to the dog park. Still, at 9:00AM, the Band of Bikers, or BOBers for short, have all made it out to Johnathan Dickinson State park. For most of us this is a long drive, but just like a gym buddy helps motivate you to work out, the peer pressure of a bike club can get you out bed on Saturday morning. Of course, going to the gym sucks, while mountain biking and BBQing are awesome. The BOBers aren’t a racing group, or an exclusive brotherhood of clipless, tubeless Strava enthusiasts. No, the BOBers are just friendly pack of mountain bikers who enjoy riding together. Group events can be anything from a short morning ride, to a Sunday cookout with barely any riding at all. Today’s event at Johnathan Dickinson Park is a group ride followed by a BBQ. JD Park is the perfect place for today’s ride, as the trails are smooth enough for beginners, but packed full of fun stuff for riders like me. By use of some alien technology, the maintenance crew, Club Scrub, has built jumps, berms, and even a pump track out of sugar sand and shells. You can even ride it when it’s soaking wet. While Club Scrub is more of a maintenance group, many of their members are also part of BOBers. Clubs don’t necessarily compete with one another, in fact a lot of the time they share a number of members. With members all over South Florida, you’re bound to see BOBers anywhere you go. Sometimes you can pick them out by a their Jerseys, but there’s another way to flag them down. Cacaw! When you see a grown man or woman cawing like a bird, it’s a safe idea to stay the hell away from them, but in the case of the BOBers it would actually mean the opposite. This is their battle cry, and with all the group rides they do it’s a great way to stay together. Riding together is one of the main benefits of joining a bike club. Sure, there are many less structured ways you can ride with others, but bike clubs are organized and easy to understand. Even if you think you’re too busy to make new friends, you can ride once a month with a group and meet tons of people. So clubs are a great way to meet new friends and find people to ride with, but what if you already have that? Why not just call up some friends and ride? Why does it need to be official, and have a name? Is all this necessary? Well, no, not at first. It's when the group grows that these things start to happen. Many bike clubs start with a group of friends who meet up to ride casually. Little by little, things get too big for the likes of a group text. Before you know it, the group has a name, jerseys, and a long list of inside jokes. This is how many bike clubs materialize, and the BOBers have a similar story. Although the Band of Bikers is a very diverse club, there is a consistent group culture. In this case, inclusiveness and lightheartedness. Other groups have their own cultures as well, so there’s always a club out there that will fit your personality. Maybe you like to do trail maintenance, or maybe you’re super competitive and want to find riders who will push you to the limits. Maybe you want to ride for 10 minutes and drink beer for the rest of the day. There are groups for that. At most BOBers events, they’ll wait up at checkpoints to keep the ride together. Other clubs might prefer a more rigid structure where they know that everyone is at the same skill level. These determinations can also be made per event. So if your group of riding buddies is becoming a little too big to handle, you have the option of taking it a step further and starting a club. Unless you want do more than organize group rides, there’s really no need to incorporate, or register the group as a non-profit. A cycling club can be as loosely or rigidly structured as you choose. What do you guys think? Do you think cycling clubs get you out riding more? If you’re part of a mountain biking club, tell us the name and where your home trails are. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. Stickers and shirts! https://bermpeak.com

It's not often I get to compare 4 generations of game, but The Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 is one I've found intriguing for a while, especially as it's technically on the same platform still. This video charts the Sims Evolution from it's conception with The Sims in 2000, through Sims 2 in 2004, Sims 3 in 2009 and finally, Sims 4 in 2014 and compares all the Sim games against graphics, features, quirks, gameplay, playability, expansion packs and lots in-between. If you're looking for a Sims death compilation showing a comparison between deaths and the Grim Reapers in each game, then this may also be for you. On the other end of the scale, the comparison between pregnancy and birth is pretty interesting. I think I just find comparing any early game to more recent ones fascinating. The difference between the expanse of the neighborhoods/worlds in each game is also quite striking. There's a Create a Sim Comparison, as well as the evolution of the Sims themselves, a graphical evolution and a comparison of little things, like phone calls and other features that made the Sims, the Sims. So, sit back and join me in this evolution of the Sims, from The Sims 1 to The Sims 4, or to be precise, from Sims to Sims 4, because as with most games, the first Sims was just called "The Sims". ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! I'm fine Drop tears in the morning Give in to the lonely Here it comes with no warning I capsize, I'm first in the water Too close to the bottom I'm right back where I started Said I'm fine Your silhouette is burned in my memory Rubble left from the moment that you left me Oh my God, oh my God And three words have never come easy Cause you're more than they ever could be Oh my God, oh my God How could you have ever known If I never let it show, now I just wanna know are you? I'm fine Drop tears in the morning Give in to the lonely Here it comes with no warning I capsize, I'm first in the water Too close to the bottom I'm right back where I started Said I'm fine I'm swimming up against the tide Oh my god I'm swimming but I'm getting tired Oh my god I'm swimming up against the tide Oh my god I'm swimming but I'm getting tired Oh my god I'm fine Drop tears in the morning Give in to the lonely Here it comes with no warning I capsize, I'm first in the water Too close to the bottom I'm right back where I started Said I'm fine I think about you, love you, and I'm filled with pride
"Riding street" is the term used to describe any kind of off-trail riding. For example: practicing wheelies at your local park, or launching off a little bump somewhere. When I intend on riding street, I leave my house with a hardtail. Hardtails are great for hopping, and navigating technical obstacles, so they’re better than full suspension bikes when it comes to street riding, or are they? I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing. I have an errand to run across town, so I'm going to bring out my monster 6 inch all mountain bike and get into some trouble. First of all, getting around town is easier on a road bike, period. Pedaling anything with suspension is more work, as if the knobby tires weren’t bad enough. Still, mountain bikers are used to pedaling their bikes, and most could ride a full suspension around town all day. To me it didn’t feel like a big deal, even when holding a decent pace. While you could just lock out the suspension, this is only good for long stretches of road. The whole point of taking your mountain bike street riding, is to jump stuff. When it comes to sudden movements, the the full suspension is tough to handle. I started off my ride treating it like a hardtail, and although I made it work, I felt hindered. Bunnyhopping in particular is pretty tough. On a positive note, it seems like full suspension bikes are more forgiving when you land nose heavy. I know that sounds weird considering your suspension fork would have more to do with that, but it feels smoother when your back end comes crashing down. Hopping up this thing and bumping the handle at the end was kind of tough to pull off since it required two quick moves in succession. For anything BMX or trials influenced, the squishiness is a negative. It’s hard to be accurate when everything is delayed by a fraction of a second. But we're talking about highly precise movements. What happens if we go big? Now we're talking. It seems like the key to riding street on a full suspension bike is going big. Big drops, big gaps, big jumps. My bike feels like a 747 in the air, and when landing. This revelation got me into trouble a couple of times. This bumpy muddy trench might be out of the question on a BMX, and even on a hardtail it would suck up your speed. Not today. I had more than enough speed for this wallride even with a 7 pound hydration pack. All that travel was fueling my confidence, and that’s when the old me started to rear his ugly head. This looks rideable, right? I decided not to try that again. On a hardtail I may have gotten more speed. I may have hopped higher and cleared the gap. Or, it could have ended a lot worse. Surprisingly I didn’t get hurt at all, which speaks to how forgiving full suspension bikes are. After that canal gap, I took it pretty easy for the rest of the day. Today was the first time I really went out and challenged myself in the street on a full suspension bike. Although I still maintain that it’s not as good as a hardtail for most things, it’s definitely better for going big. To land in the street is to land hard, and although people land way harder on rigid BMX bikes, it seems like the gaps and drops I could do on this thing are limitless. People have mixed feelings about street riding in general. Is there really any way to do it respectfully? That’s a conversation for another day. For now, I think we’ve only reinforced what hardtails and full suspension bikes are best for, so we’ll leave it at that. Do any of you guys ride street on mountain bikes? What style do you prefer? Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. Stickers and shirts! https://bermpeak.com

Pssst is one of Ultimate Play the Game's original 16K Spectrum games, before they went on to become the mega house that is Rare. In fact, it's only their second game after Jetpac. But what a game it is (to be fair, Jetpac is completely awesome as well). So it bode well for things to come from the Stamper brothers. This is one of the games which has stuck in my mind since a very young age, helped by the simplicity (definitely helps with me), colours and easy game play. The SAE Mark 6 Tuner is the HiFi component I never thought I'd be able to own, but after years of searching I finally managed to buy one. In this video I'll show you what makes it special to me. EXPAND for more...READ THIS TEXT BOX - for repeated comments If you want to check if there are currently any Scope Tuners for sale on eBay - try a link below. UK: http://goo.gl/FPDJo0 US: http://goo.gl/Tlq3o1 DE: http://goo.gl/9WA256 ...and of course you can always buy a Kaossilator Pro from Amazon http://amzn.to/2bEP18X (UK) or http://amzn.to/2bEHtIc (US) Four years ago I made a video about the Kaossilator 2 - here it is https://youtu.be/XkImH1WkWRw CORRECTIONS; 03:32 75 ohms 11:45 Beat It (see 11:10) FURTHER INFO Things re-posted multiple times in the comments ODD FREQUENCIES US radio frequencies step in odd numbers .1.3.5 etc in other countries the standards are different....the UK for example radio stations can use any digit...e.g. 95.1 & 102.0 ...loads written about this in the comments. NOTE.....THE TUNER IS ANALOG...BUT THE DISPLAY IS DIGITAL...so what this means is that as I'm turning the dial it picks up all the frequencies...e.g. 98.1, 98.2, 98.3, 98.4...however the display only changes when it reaches .1,.3,.5, so whilst the display can't show 102.4, I can tune it in perfectly, it's at the top of 102.3 or the bottom of 102.5 ...it's an analogue tuning dial....so there are no problems using this at all, none, not one...nada...it works very very well thanks. CAPACITORS Capacitor replacement - discussed to death in the comments ...read through them if you find capacitor chat interesting. :-/ VISUAL OSCILLOSCOPE MUSIC There are demos you can play on oscilloscopes - most notably by Jerobeam Fenderson....yes I've tried them and they work. Home page: https://www.3blue1brown.com/ For anyone who wants to understand the cross-product more deeply, this video shows how it relates to a certain linear transformation via duality. This perspective gives a very elegant explanation of why the traditional computation of a dot product corresponds to its geometric interpretation. Minor error at 1:44, the third line of the matrix should read "v1 * w2 - w1 * v2" *Note, in all the computations here, I list the coordinates of the vectors as columns of a matrix, but many textbooks put them in the rows of a matrix instead. It makes no difference for the result since the determinant is unchanged after a transpose, but given how I've framed most of this series I think it is more intuitive to go with a column-centric approach. Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker was a game I put a lot of time into, across various formats, but the Sega Mega Drive version was the one I enjoyed the most, despite the clunky controller vs. mouse option on the home computer formats. This 3D world of snooker was very compelling and the game itself was put together with a high level of care and humour. One day I'll look into it in more detail, but for now, here's Jimmy and a 1 minute review. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! George Foreman's KO Boxing has a strange history. It started out being called James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing in North America when it was released alongside the Master System II. Over in the UK, Europe and Brazil, it was renamed George Foreman's KO Boxing and in more recent times it's known as Heavyweight Champ due to the loss of licencing. The game shares little connection to it's Mega Drive/Genesis counterparts of either title name, but as it stands is a pretty competent boxing simulation on Sega's 8 bit hardware. So good in fact, that it could probably pass as a 16 bit title, if you turned off the music and sounds effects. Boxing games aren't usually my thing, but this one stood out to me as a youngster, so let's take a quick look in this 1 minute review. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Sibling rivalry.
Can you be too old to start mountain biking? Well if you assume that being old means being unfit, then yeah you can be too old to do a lot of things, but of course we know that's not the case. Just like people of all ages vary in fitness, bike trails vary in difficulty. So if you're fit enough to ride a normal bicycle around town, you'll be fine riding a mountain bike on novice trails. But what if you want to take it further? I didn’t start riding with Steven until around 12:30, and by then he had ridden the whole morning—after pedaling here from his house. Someday, when I get older, maybe I’ll have as much endurance as he does. Steven is an XC or Cross Country mountain biker. Like Cross Country Skiing and Running, his focus is on endurance and speed. While today’s XC mountain bikes can take the sting out of bumps and drops, they’re stiff and rigid compared to trail bikes. They also have a geometry which puts you in an aggressive, forward position. Steven rides his XC bike over the most difficult trails here, keeping low over jumps and drops to maintain his speed. In the ridiculously humid, midday heat of South Florida, I almost ran out of water trying to keep up with him. So how long has Steven been mountain biking. (clip) You heard right, Steven started mountain biking at age 55. He was riding the dirt fire road with his son, and was forced into the trails because the path was blocked. The rest is history. Now I don’t consider 55 or 62 to be all that old, but I get emails from people in their 40’s who are wondering if they can start mountain biking. Well, stop wondering, and start riding. Richard is very well known here at Markham Park. Besides having a hand in building almost every trail here, Richard tests all the features himself, from rocky descents, to drops, to jumps... especially jumps. This new table top and berm are pretty easy to session by looping around part of the trail. I saw a lot of people ride this feature today—and here comes Richard. Richard and I have a very similar riding style, in that we’re not content with just pedaling through the trails. Anything that’s possible to get rad on is fair game. Richard has the right bike for the job too. While Steven’s bike is meant for XC, Richard rides a trail bike with a dropper post, and plenty of suspension travel. Having ridden motocross for the better part of his life, Richard just can’t stop jumping around. Considering how hurt you can get riding motocross, mountain biking is actually a less risky activity, but that doesn’t make it any less physically demanding. I’ve seen guys my age walk some of the features that Richard pedals right through. Both Richard and Steven are here at the trails almost every weekend, and indeed there are plenty of people in their age bracket competing at local races. For anyone who participates in action sports this wouldn’t be too surprising. Mountain bikers, surfers, rock climbers, and everyone in between know a handful of people twice their age, out there doing the same thing. So, besides entering the play area at McDonalds, or being tried as a minor, there aren’t many things you can be too old to do. An activity like mountain biking is a great way to keep your body and mind young. It’s something you can improve at rapidly, and use to benchmark your fitness and agility. So getting back to our original question, I think that you could be too old to not start mountain biking. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time.
