Sometimes failing to get your goal, gives you your destiny It’s always interesting to see people’s vision of the future. Almost always, it’s positive. The one thing that we can control is our vision of ourselves in the future, even though we can’t control the future itself. You hear the story of a girl who after working successfully for some years, finds her one true love, a man who sweeps her off her feet, and she lives a happy life with 3 kids in a perfect house with a nice white fence. You hear the other story of a guy who gets good grades in school, gets in to Harvard medical school, does his residency at Mass General, and works his way up through the ranks to be Chief of Medicine at his hospital. Or if you are a younger guy, that one girl you have a crush on, becomes your girlfriend. She rides shotgun in your nice shiny car after school, where you go out for dinner. On Friday nights, you go to the movies together, On hot summer afternoons when school’s out, you lie underneath a tree in the shade with her and talk about a future together, one that’s happy and where you both are youthful forever. These are, in essence, romanticized old stories, and don’t always account for reality. What happens when life gets in the way? What happens when we tell the version of those stories embedded in reality? For example, what if the girl who meets her Mr. Perfect is not able to have kids? Or despite high grades, the guy is never able to get into medical school? What happens when your high school girlfriend goes to college across the country? Those too are common situations, but are hardly mentioned when people get asked the question “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” or “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” And unfortunately, these are the things that cause pain, hardship. These are the things that cause people to lose sight of the dreams they had when they were younger. I want you to think of your life as it is today. Be honest with yourself. Typically, everyone has at least 1 thing they have going on that they are happy with. For some people it might be their career, for others maybe their relationship with the significant other, and others might be their weight. But for every person, the reason you’re happy with that area of your life is because things are going the way you saw them. Maybe even better. It’s the notion that you have things in your control, and the idea that you’re doing what you need to, to get the results you want. The central idea behind all human actions is control, or at least, the perception of control. In English, we use the phrase “Keeping it together.” Someone who is not a native English speaker may ask, “What is ‘it’” And furthermore, why is “it” something that we should ensure is in a state of “together”? Simply said, “it” is your vision of yourself, and ensuring that it’s together implies that you have control over your your actual self. That your image of self is aligned with your ability to hold control. Or most simply, you have control over yourself. “It” also encompasses your future state, as how you see yourself is a major component of you. When you start to lose sight of how you see yourself, things start to breakdown and people start to panic. People inherently react negatively to a loss of control. Now, while all of these examples of control in social situations would result in embarrassment, there’s several instances where you won’t have control over the events that happen to you. One of the most crushing defeats of someone I’ve seen is when one is told they have a chronic disease. A disease that will stay with them for the rest of their life, or for example a diagnosis of cancer. In my experience, when these people are formally diagnosed, their sense of self is completely shattered, that “it” is no longer being kept together. As if they are not the person they thought they were, and will never be the person they envisioned. I was chatting to someone recently. He finds himself stuck in one position on the guitar neck and was asking how I approach changing positions on the guitar neck? As usual there is more than one answer to a question like this. So I thought I'd twist the question around and start with "Why"... How to make MTB videos that don’t suck Type in the name of your favorite mountain bike trail, and you’re likely to see a few videos posted directly from someone’s action camera. Sometimes, they’re cool, but usually they suck. When they are edited, it’s usually to add long title screens, annoying music, or over the top transitions which only exacerbate the nausea you’re experiencing… that is if you’re still watching. But action cameras are the easiest way to record your ride, hands down. So how can you use them to make videos that don’t suck? Here are ten tips to help. The transcript of this video was too long for YouTube, so it can be viewed here: https://www.sethsbikehacks.com/how-to-film-mtb-videos-that-dont-suck/ Bendy Tripod is Here: https://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/bendy-tripod/ Stickers and shirts! https://bermpeak.com

This video and engine is a product of two years of collecting parts, learning things I previously knew nothing about, saving money and then finally putting it all together. The 4age is a sporty 1600cc 124hp (116 with cat) 4 cylinder engine with a 7600 rpm redline and is one of the best sounding 4 cylinders out there. It's a simple and reliable yet entertaining and exciting engine that loves to be revved and driven hard. By today's standards its under-powered and outdated but it still has a faithful following due to its great character. It is also what Initial D protagonist Takumi Fujiwawa has in his famous ae86. The particular engine assembled in this video is a 4age 16v bigport from my 1987 MR2 mk1. The engine has been lightly modded with some technotoytuning adjustable cam pulleys, HKS valve springs, mild catcams camshafts (2x 7105136 exhaust cams, with 8.0mm of lift and 244 degress of duration). It also has domed 4age smallport pistons and a very mild head and block cut, leading to a final compression ratio of about 10.4:1. The block has been bored 0.5mm and oversized cast pistons and rings fitted. This is a street build and goal was to give the engine a small increase in power and make the engine more lively and exciting, but also keep it as reliable as possible. This is why the engine has remained non-interference. The crankshaft, flywheel, clutch pressure plate, pistons and conrods have all been balanced to ensure the engine revs as smooth as possible and copes well with high-rpm. Here's the more important stuff listed: Crank bearings: OEM conrod bearings: OEM conrod bolts: ARP Head bolts: OEM Main cap bolts: OEM Head gasket: OEM Cams: Catcams 8.0 lift, 244 duration Cam pulleys: techno toy tuning Valve springs: HKS Flywheel: oem blacktop Clutch: Aisin All gaskets: OEM All of the parts received one or more combinations of the following: cleaning, blasting, galvanisation, painting. A more detailed video of the assembly with torque specs, part numbers and instructions is coming soon. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe. Trashman for the ZX Spectrum is a game I clearly remember from my youth, and indeed it's regarded as a British classic today. Your task as the local binman is to collect rubbish/trash from the neighbourhood, dump it in your bin lorry and repeat for the entire street. As you work, you'll encounter cyclists, cars, dogs and customers who'll often want a chat, a game of scrabble or just need your help - this takes up time, but usually the reward of points and more time is justified. In this short 1 minute review, I'll go over the game, it's premise, it's creators and my feelings. Better get started. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Ghost Castle was a 1985 board game released by MB Games in 1985 int the UK. It also went under the names (with slight style variations of), Which Witch (US, 1970), Brivido (Italy) and the rather hilarious Spookslot in the Netherlands. Reminisce over this family favourite with glowing skulls, scared stiff masks and a group of meddling kids as they explore this spooky castle, in this short but sweet 1 minute review. Calculating Pi with the Monte Carlo Method is a common introductory programming exercise, but I wanted to get away from computer-generated "random" numbers and used falling raindrops! The apparatus can only complete one calculation - it calculates pi with the shape of its raindrop-detecting sensors. This Pt. 2 video explains the Monte Carlo Method, the physical construction of the rain sensor, and the program running on the Arduino to count drops. What more?! Yup. The Spectrum Russian coding scene was and remains crazy. Here we have Worms for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum coded by the Multyplex Group. There are a few other Worms demos for the Spectrum, but this seems the most playable. Released in 1999, and copying the Team 17 Amiga formula from 1995, this demo allows two player action with limited weaponry (i.e. grenade and teleporter), but has the foundations for a much more comprehensive version if anyone were to take up the baton. In any case, it's marvelous and plays very well. Sir Clive would be proud. Some people suggest they may be a better fit on Brady's dedicated physics channel (called Sixty Symbols). In response, the reasons they are on Numberphile are: 1) Tadashi, while certainly a modern polymath, is based in a mathematics department. 2) This sub series (with its animation and extra production work) has been supported by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, a Numberphile collaborator. 3) Some of the previous and future Tadashi videos are more math-oriented than physics - and it just makes sense to put them on one channel rather than dividing the series between two channels on an ad hoc basis. In a multi-disciplinary world, it is challenging to run YouTube channels which people come to associate with just one discipline. That said, feel free to go over and watch hundreds of physics videos on Sixty Symbols --- https://www.youtube.com/sixtysymbols

Whole Playlist: https://youtu.be/4vOt8THL81s?list=PL5S7V5NhM8JRSJ3bMKsqd3pqQ5wFCwZTT Last month, I got a Nimbus Oracle from unicycle.com. This badass mountain unicycle was in the hands of someone with no clue how to ride it. Instead of watching the instructional DVD's I took to the tennis courts to figure it out. I fell a bunch of times and ultimately rode like 10 feet. I was learning the hard way. The next time at the park, I made huge progress and was basically able to ride the thing—in random directions. After another hour of practice I could steer it and sort of go where I wanted to. That day I learned that unicycling is exhausting. On a rainy day a week later I rode all the way to Riverwalk and crossed a scary main road. This was my first trip through the streets. I learned to free mount that day, which is getting up on the unicycle without support from a fence or a pole. My technique was to push down with my dominant foot, hop into position, and pedal away. This wrong technique is now burned into my brain. I messed around in the park some more and rode home in the rain. I was ready to step it up. Eager to take my unicycle off-road, I visited a nature path at Birch State Park. The path was windy and unstable with some low branches, but nothing like a real mountain bike trail. Ultimately I made it up this incline and through these roots. In 90 degree heat with no water, I almost vomited, and deserved it for not hydrating. I rode back to the car, which felt really far away, and downed melted iced coffee. And here's the part you didn't see. Friday evening, I rode all the way to James's house 2 miles away. I had to free mount multiple times, and ride much further than I ever had before. Surprisingly I made it with relative ease. Two miles would have been unthinkable just a week before. I did need to squeeze between these two cars, which could have ended in property damage. And here I am, Sunday morning at Oleta River State Park, to attempt a real bike trail. This is what I've been training for all this time. Roots, rocks, and wooden platforms all look bigger when you only have one wheel. Alright, here goes! I've ridden a unicycle about 10 times now in total, so it feels really good to be out on the trails this soon. Turning quickly is still the hardest part, followed by inclines, but just riding along an uneven surface trips me up from time to time. This platform might just be the most difficult obstacle I've braved yet. Riding a unicycle is now muscle memory. I could put it down for a week and pick up right where I left off. As a cyclist, it'll be interesting to see if the unicycle has helped me in other areas. Can I wheelie a fixie forever now? Has my precision on a normal mountain bike improved? Only time will tell. Every day I get messages from fans. While it's impossible to answer every one, I have noticed a lot of people asking if they're too old to start mountain biking. The answer to that would be a resounding "No". If unicycling were bicycling, I just learned to ride a two wheeler a few weeks ago. Now, I'm learning to ride mountain bike trails. Thanks for riding with me today, and I'll see you next time. Check out http://unicycle.com They made this video possible Stickers and shirts! https://bermpeak.com

Army Air Forces Combat Subject film #298. Silent footage of cloud formations at Guadalcanal July 16, 1943. After a bit of blank film, there is aerial color footage of an A-Bomb mushroom cloud. (Presumably in Japan in 1945?) The nuclear bomb footage isn't mentioned by the National Archives in their description at all.
Successful people feel gratitude. Unsuccessful people feel entitlement. I used to think I could be anything I wanted, without doing work. That by sheer will of simply wanting to do something, it would be done for me. That I was entitled to it, and it was sent to me by heaven. In many ways, I failed as a kid, but I've a better view of how things work in this world and am grateful to be healthy, to have a job, a great career, to live in a great city, and to have supporting friends and family.
