This story took place before I started my YouTube channel. Like all cycle stories, it's supported by cell phone pics, video from bystanders, and whatever supporting media I can dig up. Enjoy the new series! I’m on my way to Wynnwood, Miami. The reason: YouTube happy hour. It’s my worst nightmare; a bunch of hip Vloggers having hors d'oeuvres and socializing. But going to the Wynnwood reminds me of an event from 2014 called Redbull Minidrome. Many of you have heard of fixed gear bikes being referred to as “track bikes”. The “track” in question is called a velodrome. Velodromes are large tracks with huge banked turns. The track is designed to conserve momentum. Well, someone had the genius idea to build a comically small version of this with hairpin turns, appropriately named the minidrome. At Redbull’s event, riders face off head to head in the minidrome for ten laps. Each race lasts from 45 seconds to over a minute, unless one rider starts gaining on the other significantly. In that case, the race is halted for safety reasons, with the faster rider being declared the winner. Elmo & Zoey from Two& agreed to build me a fixie for the event. With a really low gear, wide ass bars, 26” wheels, and SPD pedals, Elmo had created a purpose designed machine for the event. At qualifiers we got to ride the track for the first time. I remember the track being very easy to ride at moderate speed, but getting real hairy when you passed a certain threshold. Starting on the outside of the track and bombing the inside of the turn was key. After a few laps, dizziness would set in, and if you were going fast, exhaustion. If memory serves me correct, I qualified second or third, with this dude who flew in from Europe having a significant lead. The next day, I headed to the track for the main event. Race day went by instant elimination. You lose a race, you’re out. You crash, you’re out. A lot of the people who qualified were pretty good, but didn’t have the experience that the top qualifiers did. The pool of riders shrunk quick, and the races got more intense. Finally, I raced against this guy who was wearing a jersey from another minidrome event. Aside from being a real nice guy, he was also a total badass at riding a minidrome. I had my work cut out for me. In the end, nobody got seriously hurt. My opponent got to go on to the next race since it was me that caused the crash, and I ended up placing 5th. You can see why they normally stop the race when one rider gains too much on the other. Just look at my rear wheel. If minidrome were to come to Miami again, I would definitely enter. Having learned a thing or two, I’d probably opt for a slightly higher gear so I’d have more headroom against the top brass. I’d also use Maxxis Holy Rollers as tires since they’re perfectly suited to this type of thing. Who knows? Maybe I’d even build a fixed gear mountain bike. Anyway, I’m nearing the venue where YouTube happy hour is being held. Wish me luck. Okay, I think I’m gonna head out. Although I should have stuck around for the chicken and rice, small talk and socializing just isn’t my thing. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. Under the Norman kings of Sicily, the island became a prosperous and influential Mediterranean superpower. The coexistence of western, Islamic and Byzantine cultures on Sicily created a multilingual state. In this video, Curator Dirk Booms talks about a funerary inscription from AD 1149 written in Judaeo-Arabic (Arabic written in Hebrew script) on top, Latin on the left, Greek on the right, and Arabic below. Hey guys, today we are getting a little bit of Red P by scraping it off of matchboxes. This method is meant mostly for demonstration purposes. I don't condone the use of Red P for any illegal purposes. Also, the Red P that we get isn't super pure. There are some other things mixed into it. The yield from this method is super low too, so you really won't be able to mass produce Red P. It it really only useful for the small scale experiments. Also, just as a side-note, videos like these are no charged to Patreon supporters. This parking lot is the meeting spot for Fort Lauderdale Critical Mass, a group bike ride that takes place on the last Friday of every month. You might have a critical mass in your city, as it’s an international phenomenon. Although there are various Facebook groups announcing locations, there’s no official organizer or committee for any of these rides. Critical Mass is a cross between self governance and total anarchy, with a smile. Just find out where the ride meets, and show up. As is usually the case, everyone here has chosen to follow Zoey around Fort Lauderdale tonight. She seems to know where she’s going. We start the ride through a neighborhood by the park, which I’ll need to weave through to get a shot of the front again. If you use a bicycle to get from place to place, you’re used to dealing with cars. Even if you as a cyclist follow the laws, the majority of motorists wouldn’t even notice. To them, you’re just an inconvenience in their much more important lives, and roads are for cars. Not tonight. Tonight, motorists are the minority. This to an extent, is the original concept behind Critical Mass, but I find that most everyone is here just to have a good time. A lot of the participants actually get into cycling because of this ride, and as a result they become better drivers. I like that. Since we’re out on a Friday night after rush hour has ended, most everyone is excited to see us. In years past, the group grew too large, and the police even got involved. Since then things seemed to have simmered down, and the ride has become quite predictable and dare I say, orderly. It only takes us a few minutes to pass through an area, and the response is almost universally positive. In some bigger cities, Critical Mass has all but ended due to the many problems that can arise from such a large group. Other masses continue with very few issues, even with tens of thousands of riders. When we pass through areas, people always shout out to us, asking where we’re going. I should take the time to explain everything to them, but it’s more fun to say that we’re all going to Publix. For you non Floridians, Publix is a supermarket with exceptional sandwiches. Generally, you can show up to Critical Mass on a bike or anything human powered. There are always a few creations among the group, like Benjamin’s Tall Bike. The ride usually ends somewhere downtown, with much of the group dispersing. Wherever you are in the city, you’ll likely see more cyclists than usual late into the night. So if you want to ride Critical Mass, it’s probably a matter of finding out where it meets in your city. Search Facebook or ask a cyclist. They’ll probably be happy to tell you. If your city doesn’t have a Critical Mass, just show up somewhere at the same time every month, and go for a ride. If you’re consistent, maybe people will start following you. It’s worth a shot. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. Bike ride took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on July 29th 2016. Music: https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired/my-ride

Guitarists like Al Di Meola, can demonstrate amazing rhythmic control when playing syncopated lead lines, and this was something that I wanted to emulate, which is why I created this exercise. The exercise I talk about in this video mixes 8th and 16th notes together on different beats of the bar in a systematic way, creating something that you can drill and build your rhythmic picking skills. Outrun on the Amstrad CPC is a port of the arcade Sega classic from 1986. Released in 1987 by US Gold and developed by Giga games, it seems to be a conversion of the Sinclair Spectrum version, but is also clearly unfinished and in a state which could almost be described as unplayable. Thankfully I've also included footage of a remastered version of the game, in the guise that it could have been, had the developers been graced with more time by their publishers. Outrunners for the Megadrive/Genesis is the official sequel to Outrun (not Outrun 2 as you might think) and was released in 1994 in Japan and North America following the 1993 worldwide arcade release. The premise is similar to Outrun in that you drive across the world in a specified amount of time, with multiple branching routes (in arcade mode) as in the original game. The differences are really the multiple choices of vehicle (something originally intended for Outrun, but scrapped), a larger world to race through, being based globally rather than just in Europe and improved graphics. The Mega drive/Genesis version tries to copy across as much from the Arcade cabinet as possible, so join me and let's go Outrunning. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! "On the activities of Western ranchers. Shows how the problems of providing grass and water are solved with the help of the Agricultural Adjustment Agency. Water holes are dug; and grasses developed by the Agency are planted and cut. Sheep are sheared; wool is bundled; horses are rounded up; and cattle are caught, branded, and vaccinated. Fences are repaired and modern machinery is used to reap and store hay." U.S. Army Education Film #185; created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Aka. Chase HQ with a Ferrari. This is a rather less relaxing iteration on the Outrun theme. The objective in this game, as you can guess, is to smash criminals off the road in your shiny Ferrari F40, presumably causing irreparable damage to your luxury sports car in the process. This game was only released in Europe, presumably because the Master System was so much more popular in these parts. It's an interesting game, but feels more like a cash in on the Outrun name to compete with Taito's Chase HQ series which was also released and advertised around the same time as this Sega developed title. ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Next Video: https://youtu.be/-spaM8-0JDs?list=PL5S7V5NhM8JRSJ3bMKsqd3pqQ5wFCwZTT Whole Playlist: https://youtu.be/4vOt8THL81s?list=PL5S7V5NhM8JRSJ3bMKsqd3pqQ5wFCwZTT Last week, I had my first unicycle practice session. Although I was able to crank a few times and stay up for 5 seconds, I was far from having any sort of real control over the unicycle. Still, I rode it enough where you guys were able to see what I was doing wrong. More than a few subscribers on YouTube and Facebook gave me advice. The three tips I saw multiple times were. “Lower the seat” “Look straight ahead” “Ride with no hands” Today I went out, determined to try all of these things. I dropped the saddle and dealt with the extra brake hose. I pointed my GoPro down so that it would still capture the unicycle while looking straight ahead. I also committed to using no hands, which really messed with my mind at first. After a little practice though, something happened. I started to get the freaking hang of it. I could turn, I could make corrections, and I could pretty much ride wherever I wanted—for some time at least. I wasn’t consistent, and I certainly was not relaxed, but I was riding my unicycle. I was pretty excited, and feeling a sense of accomplishment I haven’t felt in years, but rather than basking in the glory of learning something new, I got right down to business. First, I needed to learn how to make sharper turns. Wide turns came naturally right from the start, but anything beyond that made me fall immediately. After today’s practice session I’m a little better at this. Second, I started trying to mount the unicycle with no support. This has been killing me since day 1. If I could only learn this, it would be way easier to practice since I wouldn’t need to keep returning to a wall or a fence over and over. I’d love some tips on this, but I think it might come naturally once I get more comfortable staying up. The third thing I started trying was riding off road. The hard packed path took a couple of tries but really wasn’t a problem. The grass, on the other hand, was pretty mushy and difficult to balance on. I can stay up fairly well, but steering is still difficult for me. I also learned something about cycling. As someone who just learned to stay up on a unicycle, my entire body is tense and I overcompensate for everything. Just riding around in a circle is totally exhausting. If you’re a new mountain biker and can barely make it through one section, all I can say is that I feel you. Experience and time in the saddle will cure this automatically. When I start to feel relaxed and confident on this thing, I’m bringing it straight to Virginia Key park to train on the novice trails. From there, I’ll probably start jumping off of crap. Next time I practice, I’m determined to get the hang of mounting the unicycle and mastering tight turns, left and right. Until then, thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. A) I have one 2.5K stabilised video clip available in the samples - HOWEVER....If you want to see another video review of this camera - then this one is very good https://youtu.be/IH-JrsWxmx4 It also shows the other resolutions I didn't test in my video and demonstrates the image stabilisation. I would always recommend watching more than one review before spending this amount of money on a camera. Q) Would stabilisation remove the vibrations you get when you mount a camera on a bike's handlebars A) No - I've used the best in-camera stabilisation (on the Sony Action cams)- and it can't fix this problem. Handlebar vibrations are too quick and too severe. Q) Can it record and charge at the same time? A) Yes - this is a standard feature for all action cams I've tested. Q Can the screen be turned off during recording. A) Yes. Q) Does the camera get hot? A) No. Q) How did I mount the camera to my pocket? A) Watch this video https://youtu.be/2O9aLYSntTQ Q) Can you record and stream over wifi at the same time? A) Yes (this is pretty much a standard feature for wifi connected cameras)...but as you can see in the video, there is significant lag. Q) Can you output over HDMI/Composite? A) I don't have the appropriate cables, however it says that you can "Preview and play back videos and photos on your TV via the optional cable". on the Specifications page here: http://yitechnology.com/actioncamera/specs/id/5.html Q) Battery Life in other modes A) Roughly the same as in 4K - e.g. 1080p60, WiFi off, Screen Off - battery life = 2hrs 2mins Q) - More like a weird situation I seem to be in where a number of people insist on 'informing' me that to digitally stabilise 4K video you would need a sensor larger than 4K.... A) I know, here is a video from a while ago where I talk about image stabilisation https://youtu.be/eNZ6bg9uk0k?t=6m35s *A FEW COMMON FEATURES ON ACTION CAMS* EVERY HD ACTION CAMERA I'VE EVER TESTED - will charge off USB, will power and record at the same time, charges over USB, charges from a standard 5V 2.1amp USB power supply, can be powered from a USB battery power pack....this is standard. ------AFFLIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE------- All links are Affiliated where possible. This week, you’re no better off in Delaware than you are in Miami. It’s hot as balls everywhere. Of course, down here 92 degrees is just a typical Saturday, and I’m out on the trails soaking it all in—or soaking my shirt in sweat. So how do you ride in the heat? What can you do to make it more tolerable, and safe? Well it's no secret that a major component to riding in the heat is proper hydration. As one of my roadie friends says, “if you start your ride thirsty, you’re already done.” Hydration should start long before your ride, even the night before if possible. Eating right, or not too much is probably a good idea as well. While you don’t want to starve yourself, you’re probably better off with a banana than let’s say, carnitas tacos. So you're well hydrated, and laying off the heavy food. You'll still need to stay hydrated on your ride. Your options are a water bottle or a hydration pack. Which do you choose? Water bottles are perhaps the simplest solution, and they keep your body free of obstructions so you can feel the breeze. Although we’ve all lost a water bottle on a hard landing, a good bottle and cage combination can be pretty secure. For XC riders and most trail riders, it’s a great solution. For many of us though, water bottles leave a lot to be desired. First of all they’re limited in terms of volume. Even a large bottle doesn’t quite cut it for a longer ride—not in the South. Also, many mountain bikes can’t even accept a bottle cage. Not only that, but some people just don’t like having stuff mounted to their bike if they can help it, myself included. So, many riders opt for the hydration pack. You can get the comically small one that barely fits a car key, or the huge one that fits every bike tool you own plus two gallons of water. All of them hold more water than a bottle, and deliver it in the most convenient way possible. Having instant access to water without fumbling with a bottle is pretty nice. What's better, hydration packs are extremely secure, with one or two cross straps to keep things in place. There’s no way a hydration pack is going to fall off of you. All these benefits come at one huge cost though; hydration packs block the air that would otherwise be cooling you off. I should know, since I’m usually riding with this beast, which has all my camera gear in it. One little trick I use is freezing the entire pack the night before. By the time you get to the trails, enough of it should have melted to get you started. Instead of making you sweat, it feels cool on your back. On a hot day, you’ll have a steady supply of meltwater to drink. There’s nothing like ice cold water when it’s hot as balls out. Turn on closed captions to read the rest of the transcript.
