De Delflandpleinbuurt in Nieuw-West is deze week door de gemeente aangewezen als officieel overlastgebied. Al jaren worden er door bewoners meldingen gedaan over intimidatie, overlast en inbraken door drugsdealers en drugsgebruikers. De gemeente spreekt van 'excessieve overlast van groepen personen' die zich bezighouden met 'drugshandel, openlijk drugsgebruik, agressief bedelen en bedreiging'. Doordat het sinds woensdag een officieel overlastgebied is, mogen agenten overlastgevers een 24-uursverbod geven. "Je hebt hier best wel veel overlast. Dus ik snap het wel. Ik vind het een hele goede zet", zegt een van de bewoners van de buurt. Een ander vindt het 'geweldig', al gaat het haar niet ver genoeg. "Ze moeten hen een permanent verbod geven." In de zomer van 2025 kon AT5 op klaarlichte dag de drugshandel nog filmen in deze berm bij de A10 West. Inmiddels gebeurt dat hier nog maar weinig, omdat het groen door Rijkswaterstaat gesnoeid is (waardoor dealers meer in het zicht staan) en er sinds iets meer dan een halfjaar een camera van de gemeente staat. "Als je een camera ziet in het verkeer, dan rem je ook altijd even af", legt een van de twee bewoners uit. "En hier zegt de een ook tegen de ander, loop maar even door en dan verdwijnen ze onder het viaduct waar ze niet gezien worden." De eerste bewoner merkt ook verschil. "Dat is een heel mooie verandering. Helaas zijn er nog wel duidelijk mensen die bezig zijn met drugs." Hoewel Amsterdam natuurlijk veel Oranjefans telt, zijn er ook behoorlijk wat Amsterdammers die (ook) juichen voor een ander land tijdens het WK. Omdat het WK groter is dan anders, doen er veel landen mee die nog nooit, of niet vaak, op zo’n groot toernooi hebben gespeeld. Vandaag spreken we Soufyan Bchiri, die vol spanning uitkijkt naar het duel tegen Canada vanavond. De Marokkaanse gemeenschap in Amsterdam telt zo'n 80.000 mensen en is daarmee de grootste groep inwoners van buiten Nederland. Het WK leeft enorm onder de Amsterdamse Marokkanen. Na de overwinning op het Nederlands elftal is er nog dagenlang feestgevierd en getoeterd.   Vanavond speelt Marokko de achtste finale tegen Canada. Om de positieve sfeer hoog te houden organiseren de vrienden van Soufyan een groot kijkfeest in H7 Warehouse bij Sloterdijk.  Over de afloop van de komende wedstrijden van Marokko, ook wel de Atlasleeuwen genoemd, is Soufyan erg optimistisch. Soufyan neemt ons mee naar een marktkraam waar hij een Sfenj bestelde, een klassieke Marokkaanse lekkernij die lijkt op een donut. Op de markt in Nieuw-West is de support voor Marokko duidelijk zichtbaar. Na zestien jaar in de Amsterdamse politiek is Jan-Bert Vroege (D66) gisteravond geïnstalleerd als wethouder in Almere. Hij krijgt daar economie, hoger onderwijs, innovatie, kunst & cultuur en de herontwikkeling van het stadscentrum in zijn portefeuille. Vandaag was - na een zeer korte nacht - zijn eerste werkdag. Het is laat geworden afgelopen nacht. Na zijn installatie als wethouder was er nog een klein feestje. "Ik lag om half drie in bed", bekent Vroege, die na een paar uurtjes slaap een hotel in Almere komt uitlopen. Een huis heeft hij nog niet gevonden in de jongste stad van Nederland. Het is vanaf het hotel tien minuten lopen naar het stadhuis. Veel mensen zijn er nog niet op straat. Maar vergis je niet, zegt Vroege. "Almere is echt een hele jonge, dynamische stad. Een heel andere stad dan Amsterdam. Een stad met weinig verleden, maar met heel veel toekomst. Almere heeft niet het imago dat het de meest sexy stad van Nederland is, maar de bewoners wonen hier graag." Vroege begon in 2010 als deelraadslid in Amsterdam-Oost, zat in de gemeenteraad, en keerde vier jaar geleden terug naar Oost als bestuurder. Hij vond dat politiek minder in de Stopera bedacht moest worden, maar juist meer in de stadsdelen, dicht bij de mensen. Hij maakte zich hard voor meer groen in de stad, verkeersveiligheid en een veilige en inclusieve openbare ruimte. De portefeuille toekomst Nu moet hij in Almere aan de bak als wethouder met een volle portefeuille. "Ik heb het zelf samengevat als de portefeuille Toekomst. Het is economie, werkgelegenheid, innovatie, maar ook het hoger beroepsonderwijs. Oftewel werkgelegenheid voor nu en in de toekomst. Want er moet ook gewoon geld verdiend worden om al die huizen die mensen hier gekocht hebben te kunnen betalen. Het gaat ook over klimaat, energie en duurzaamheid. Voormalig bisschop Roger Vangheluwe (89) is woensdag overleden en intussen in "strikte intimiteit" begraven. Dat meldt de bisschoppenconferentie. Vangheluwe was een kwarteeuw lang de populaire en volkse bisschop van Brugge tot in 2010 bekendraakte dat hij jarenlang zijn neef seksueel heeft misbruikt. Sindsdien verbleef hij in 'het verborgene'. Roger Vangheluwe wordt halfweg jaren 30 geboren in Roeselare, in West-Vlaanderen. Zowat 30 jaar later wordt hij er tot priester gewijd. Hij is op dat moment niet de gedoodverfde kandidaat om bisschop Emiel Jozef De Smedt op te volgen. "Het heeft mij, een jongen van simpele komaf die gewoon hard zijn best deed, sterk ontroerd", zegt hij daarover in een interview met Het Nieuwsblad. Hij verkoopt tegelijk zichzelf als een bisschop van de gewone mensen. 25 jaar lang is hij zeer geliefd in zijn bisdom en ver daarbuiten. "Hij is geen kerkdienaar in een ivoren toren, maar een echte volksvriend", stippen zijn buren aan ergens begin 2010 in Het Laatste Nieuws. "Hij is altijd vriendelijk en begeesterend." Vrouwenrechten in de kerk Vangheluwe schuwt de media niet en gaat moeilijke onderwerpen niet uit de weg. Het levert hem al snel een stempel van "progressief" op. Zo houdt hij - tegen de wil van Rome in - een pleidooi voor een grotere rol voor vrouwen in de kerk. Al wordt hij al even snel door datzelfde Rome teruggefloten. Over homoseksualiteit houdt hij er conservatievere opvattingen op na. "Dit is niet de natuurlijke houding zoals God de mens heeft bedacht", zegt hij daarover in Terzake. Al is er voor hem in de kerk zeker plaats voor holebi's, net als voor mensen die een scheiding achter de rug hebben. Hij spreekt zich ook uit tegen kindermisbruik in de kerk. Hij lijkt het zelfs op te nemen voor de slachtoffers. "Overal horen we van priesters die kinderen hebben misbruikt. Het is vreselijk wat allemaal aan het licht komt en het doet ons enorm pijn", schrijft hij in een column die enkele dagen voor zijn ontslag verschijnt. Die woorden van Vangheluwe hebben nu een wrange nasmaak, maar op dat moment heeft de buitenwereld nog geen weet van het dubbelleven van de man. In februari 2010 wordt zijn jubileum als bisschop van Brugge zelfs nog met veel luister gevierd in een bomvolle Sint-Salvatorskathedraal. Foto Foto: Belga Een kwarteeuw bisschop is weinigen gegeven. Toenmalig paus Benedictus XVI geeft hem zelfs zijn pauselijke zegen. 2 jaar later zou Vangheluwe normaal met pensioen gaan. Zover komt het dus niet. Al lijkt er bij zijn jubileum nog geen vuiltje aan de lucht. In interviews gaat het vooral over zijn hobby's en snoepgewoontes. "Naar aanleiding van mijn jubileum werd voorgesteld om een praline uit te brengen, maar ik heb dat afgewimpeld", zegt hij aan de Krant van West-Vlaanderen. "Ik denk dat er te veel mensen zijn die te graag eens in mijn gezicht willen bijten", klinkt het lachend. Schandaal barst los Enkele maanden later zullen weinig mensen nog met smaak een praline van Vangheluwe willen verorberen. In het voorjaar van 2010 breekt het schandaal rond de bisschop helemaal los.
