Can a '90s PC builder build a gaming PC capable of running Doom 2016? Prepare to find out, in this video based around building a 2016 gaming PC! This video charts building a gaming PC from the ground up, based on knowledge from 20 years ago. Thanks to the incredible success of my Crowd Funding campaign, I have gathered all the components I need for a pretty decent gaming PC, which can pull some pretty high frame rates when running Doom 2016. So THANK YOU to every one who contributed to the campaign - the Doom review will come soon. In the mean time, take some joy as I try and work out how to build this machine, now where's that IDE cable? Further videos utilising and based around this gaming PC are in the pipeline. El Oso Niño Kids Fat Bike: http://amzn.to/28PBGEy Line 24 Kids Hardtail: http://amzn.to/1Y3q0dU How to host this event in your community https://www.imba.com/kids This is Sebastian, and mountain biking has already taught him the most important lesson a kid could learn. When you fall, you need to brush yourself off and get back up. Consequently, this has happened quite a few times today. We’re here in Miami for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day. Any local trail that wants to hold this event can get a starter kit from IMBA, the International Mountain Biking Association. It’s up the local community to do the rest. As it turns out, it’s quite feasible to get support for an event when it involves kids. Bike Tech, Big Wheel Cycle, and even the Parks Department came through to make this event all sorts of awesome. Diamondback sent me a whole box of stuff, as well as two ridiculous kids bikes. At 7 years old, I don’t think my brain could have processed either of these. This 24 inch Line hardtail is like a mini version of my bike, and the 20 inch El Oso Niño would make most kids wreck their diaper. I only wish stuff like this existed when I was a kid. Being relatively small people, my sister and I decided to take these out on the trails for a proper test. I’ll do a more extensive review on both bikes next time, but I’m not gonna lie when I say I really enjoyed myself—maybe a little too much. I don’t care if you have the most violent and demonic kid in the world, they’re gonna have a hard time breaking either of these bikes. This is good because I brought these for everyone to ride. As expected the Line 24 was a huge hit, since it’s like a perfectly scaled down version of a full sized hardtail. Still it was the fat bike that was the life of the party. Sebastian and his father already do a ton of volunteer work at Virginia Key Park, so he’s no stranger to riding trails. I think the El Oso actually increased his confidence, since the tires provide so much traction and stability. Even when everyone else was eating or waiting for another activity, Sebastian was getting in another turn on the fat bike. Indeed, a fat tire bike might be the perfect configuration for Oleta River State Park; Its location along the river means that loose sand, puddles, and mud are likely to pop up almost anywhere. For a kid especially, the big tires can be a lot more beneficial than suspension. I think all of the parents at the event were pretty sold on mountain biking as a great activity for their kids. Although my opinion is heavily biased, I can’t think of an activity that teaches so many life lessons for such a low cost. Compared to the cost of summer camp, or a self defense class, a $500 kids bike seems pretty reasonable. Mountain biking can teach a kid about self improvement, and give them a huge confidence boost. Getting through a patch of roots or a rock garden means choosing your own line, an important lesson in decisiveness and self reliance. Participating in trail maintenance teaches kids about community, and how great things can be built through teamwork. Let’s also not forget about exercise. We tend to blame society or tablets for kids being inactive, but I think it’s just them emulating their parents. All of the kids here seem very active, and that’s made possible by their parents' involvement. It might take dedication and a little money, you can’t expect a little kid to buy a bike and get themselves to the trails. By starting these kids young, they’ll grow up with a healthy outlet for their energy, and a group of lifelong friends who share the same values. At the end of the day we had a huge raffle to give away water bottles, shirts, and of course, bikes. Our Diamondback Line 24 found a great home, as well as the bikes that the local shops provided. By contributing to the communities they serve, these shops can expect a healthy mountain biking scene for years to come. The organizers of the event wanted to give someone the title of “trail ambassador”. This is a kid who represents everything a local trail stands for. We chose Sebastian, for his volunteer work, persistence, and high degree of enthusiasm for mountain biking. As happy as he seemed to have this title, we were pretty sure of what Sebastian really wanted.

This animated cartoon follows the adventures of "Colonel Cosmic," a Martian, as he learns that Oil and Competition are the two things that make America great. It is a sci-fi-influenced economic tract on the strengths of Earth-style free enterprise economics, compared to a stagnating Mars under the fist of a certain Mr. Ogg, who centrally controls the Martian economy. In the film, a Martian undercover agent flies from Mars to Earth to learn about the oil industry, and finds that the lack of government regimentation and control is what makes our system flourish. Destination Earth was produced by the same company as Make Mine Freedom, and both films share a similar graphic style. But it's six years later, and the United States is still in the middle of the flying saucer craze and worried about invaders from the skies. Well, here come the Martians, and guess what? They come from a planet that looks a lot like the Soviet Union. Even though the little cosmo-creature ostensibly flies to Earth to claim territory for the autocratic Martian ruler "Mr. Ogg," he's really on an intelligence mission. Unlike Mars, fettered by a centrally controlled command economy, Earth is prospering due to private enterprise and cheap oil. The evidence of Earth's prosperity is shown in petro-centric terms, narrated by the space traveler. This is subversive stuff for the Martians, and Mr. Ogg tries to control the spread of this information. But the gospel of free enterprise is sufficient to foment a Martian revolution, and the planet begins to remake itself in a Terrestrial image. Small businesses open and spread throughout Mars, and wildcatters start drilling for oil below the planet's red sands. This film is decidedly mellower than many of the other films expressing basically the same ideas. It might be argued that the corporations in the U.S. were no longer so worried about losing "what we have," and instead felt that it was now time to think about subverting our adversaries. Throughout the Fifties and Sixties, the oil industry was far from shy about telling its story to the public. Through the American Petroleum Institute and its Oil Industry Information Committee, a steady flow of booklets, brochures, speeches, press releases, planted news articles, "public service" advertisements and films made the case for oligopolistic ownership and marketing of petroleum. Two supplements on this disc, "Oil Serves You" and "Oil and the American Way" serve as excellent examples of this public relations offensive. The oil industry made special efforts to draw a link between freedom and prosperity, as long as prosperity was achieved through private enterprise. In Destination Earth, private enterprise (and cheap oil!) is actually pictured as a force sufficiently revolutionary to overthrow repressive societies. The ending might have been different if American oil companies had decided to go into business with Mr. Ogg. Oil companies also boasted about the extent of competition in their industry and extolled its benefits for the consumer. These assertions considerably stretched the truth but achieved credibility through obsessive repetition. Destination Earth avoids coming off as too doctrinaire or propagandistic through its self-deprecating humor (a trademark of John Sutherland films), but it's still an insidious, self-serving piece of corporate propaganda. It takes the ideas expressed in films like Make Mine Freedom and How to Lose What We Have and takes them one step further, showing free-enterprise ideology not simply as a defense against socialism but as a means of subverting other societies. If you care to read this film as prophetic, you can compare its plot to the course of events following the opening of Eastern Europe in 1989. Cartoon 1950s Cold War cartoon about a Martian dictator like Stalin with large moustache and an expedition to Earth where the astronaut discovers for his people oil and the free market capitalism; the Martians revolt against their leader and start drilling for oil on Mars.
Over the weekend, we took this cheap Mongoose Dolomite Fat Bike into the ocean to try and surf the wake of a cruise ship. Although it was a failure, we found out that fat bikes float really well. Either way, the bike got exposed to a ton of corrosive saltwater. This was kind of the whole point. When I got home I submerged the Dolomite in fresh water, and then blasted it with a hose for a good while. I could have taken the bearings apart, or attempted to clean out the cable housings, but I wanted to leave it for a few days to see what would happen. Although some rust spots appeared the next day, they were easy to get rid of with just a cleaning. I rode this bike a few times this week and I think operating all the stuff on it regularly was beneficial. In fact, the shifter totally seized the day after the ocean. After freeing it up and using it, the bike was shifting as normal. Of course, normal means mediocre. Based on this, we might get the illusion that the Dolomite is reliable and resilient, but that’s not necessarily the case. If you take a bike in the ocean, and it performs the same after you take it out, then how refined could it have possibly been in the first place. I think about these things. Through breaking the bike down and cleaning everything thoroughly, I found that there was a lot more rust on the inside. Still I was able to stop the rust and prevent it from getting worse. Thanks to the grease in the headset and bottom bracket, the bearings and races were actually not bad. Still, I’ve definitely reduced the life expectancy of this bike. Some people have asked me whether it would be cost effective to upgrade this bike, since it seems impressive for $200. Could it be made into a nice fat bike for a little more? Well, maybe, but almost any way you slice it a better fat bike would give you a lot more for your money. To make this feel like a decent bike it would need a better freewheel, crankset, and brakes for starters. At that point you’ll definitely want a better chain as well. The shifter is awful too, so figure on that plus new cables. After these changes the bike would feel a lot better, but would still be seriously hampered by the hubs. So although this may be a fun and cheap toy, it’s debatable whether upgrading it would be cost effective. So this bike is perfect for me as is; cheap and rideable, ready for the ocean. So that’s my update on the Dolomite. I’ll leave you guys with some bonus footage from that day. After the ship passed we took the bike to the other side of the rocks. We had about 4 cameras going. These fisherman started calling towards us. They were trying to tell us that we had company. Within about a second we realized it was only a manatee, a harmless and curious marine mammal. Only in Florida… Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. https://bermpeak.com I'm a part owner of Clik. PCs in the late 90s would most likely have been blessed with the terms MMX Processors. Pentium MMX, Pentium II MMX. For in 1997, Intel's MMX technology was all the rage, and the latest processor technology. If you didn't have an Intel processor with MMX extensions (or a Cyrix or AMD who quickly jumped on the wagon, much to Intel's displeasure) then you were about to fall behind the crowd, especially in terms of this new multimedia thing. CD-ROM based software needed some extra grunt and the source of this, according to Intel, would come from 57 new extensions encoded into their latest range of chips. However, in some cases it came at a cost to performance. Find out what that cost was and how MMX developed into something more useful with the Pentium II range of CPUs. ☟Subcribe☟ https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1 ✊Please Consider Supporting Me! ✊ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http://ebay.to/1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http://amzn.to/1OzCQWR ★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nostalnerd Face: http://www.facebook.com/nostalnerd Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nostalgianerd Web: http://www.nostalgianerd.com ★Equipment★ Nikon D3200 with 40mm Macro Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 Blue Snowball Microphone ♜Resources♜ BG Music is from Snowkitten: Track 1: Cheilith Track 2: Ethosien Track 3: Hexteria Available to buy from Bandcamp https://snowkitten.bandcamp.com/album/miresa Images courtesy of Wikipedia/Wikimedia Program at 3:00 is Children's BBC classic, Bertha Game at 4:10 is Pod. Isaac Habrecht's carillon clock of 1589 was never intended to simply tell the time. It was a performance piece which, to former British Museum Curator David Thompson, was equivalent to ‘a Rolls-Royce level of clocks’. Made in Strasbourg, it is designed in imitation of the great clock in Strasbourg Cathedral (also made by Habrecht, in 1574). It is undoubtedly one of the most important surviving examples of Renaissance clockwork. The figure of Death strikes the hour, and the carillon plays a musical setting of the Lord's Prayer written by Martin Luther in 1539. An astronomical dial shows the positions of the sun and moon in the zodiac. A revolving carousel shows the days of the week, each represented by its ruling planet personified and riding in a chariot. The clock’s metal case is engraved on three sides. One side features the figures of Faith, Hope and Charity (the three key Christian virtues mentioned in the First Epistle to the Corinthians). The other side shows Wisdom, Fortitude and Justice, while the back of the clock shows the Three Fates of Greek myth, who controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death. The clock is on display in the Museum in Room 37. Another FPS on the Spectrum?! This game in many ways is like Hexen, Heretic or Quake for the PC, and does indeed appear to be inspired by Id's Quake. But it's on the humble 8 bit Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Created by Oleg Origin originally in 1997, it's recently been refreshed for 2016, including improved graphics and gameplay. Developed shortly after Quake's release, on one of the many Russian Spectrum clones, it's obvious enough to say that this game was inspired by Quake and similar fantastical, dark, gothic games. The intro provides you with digitised speech, as you learn the story of a population massacred, from the forces of dark. A woman, Jane survives and gives birth to Alexander, who quests to free his country from these evil forces. Shockingly this game will actually run on a bog standard 48k Spectrum! Which is a feat. of technical marvel when you see it in action! Let's go and kick some ass. Download the game and instructions at http://www.olegorigin.org/the_dark.html

Bill reveals the stunning engineering underlying the design of a diaper. He describes the five layers of a diaper, including the superabsorbent polymer in the diaper's core. He illustrates the action of this polymer with a stunning demonstration using a single bead of polymer: it soaks up enough water to grow from a diameter of 4 mm to nearly a half inch. The Tomy Tutor Play Computer is a pre school style toy computer, with orange keys, a red return button, yellow space bar and a variety of on screen images/programs. These images scroll up the screen through various keyboard actions and show a variety of images from clowns to robots and even a version of space invaders. You can provoke animation by pressing the space bar which scrolls the saw-tooth display and creates an effect of movement. Tomy introduced this toy in 1984 after their actual Tomy Tutor Computer failed to succeed in both domestic and Western markets, although this isn't really a response to that, it's more of an update to their 1977 Tomy Typer toy, which mimicked a typewriter in a similar fashion. Last Video: https://youtu.be/e9JGxBJ5hw8 This is the bike: http://amzn.to/1ZFg5bw In the last video we took a look at the Mongoose Dolomite, a fat bike that that was shipped to my doorstep for under $200. Although it's not very refined, the price makes the Dolomite tough to complain about. Today, cheaper is most certainly better, because our fat bike may get splashed with a little bit of seawater. If there’s one good thing I can say about this bike, it’s that it works well on sand. That’s a good thing since I need to bring it across a quarter mile of this stuff to get to where we’re going today. This is the inlet by Port Everglades, one of the busiest cruise ports on the planet. This 46 foot deep channel can accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world. When these massive ships leave port, they cause the water to recede quickly, creating a kind of temporary low tide. Once the ship passes, the water returns violently like a mini tsunami. My plan is to ride the Dolomite out on to the exposed sand when the water recedes, turning around just before the tsunami approaches. If I time it right, and pedal fast enough, the wave should help push me along back to shore. We’ll call it fat bike surfing. The reason we’re here today is that a particularly big ship will be leaving for the Bahamas at 4:30. The Oasis of the Seas is over 1,100 feet long, and is propelled by a 27,000 horsepower engine. This is gonna be freaking awesome. We’ll only get one chance to do this, and right now we’re waiting in torrential downpour. The rain has died down just in time. The water is receding, and it’s pedals up. Yeah, so that didn’t go as planned. It’s hard for me to blame this on the bike, but it was stuck in too high of a gear for me to get going. I was putting all my weight on the pedals, but it was too little too late. Unsurprisingly, the bike was super buoyant. In fact I could barely push it back down to mount it again. I really hope I have another chance to try and surf this thing, but first I need to get it home and flush it out with fresh water. As you may know, seawater is one of the most corrosive solutions in the world. Still, boat trailers, and marine equipment are exposed to it all the time, so I’m hoping we can keep this bike running with a little bit of TLC. I’m by no means expecting this to work out perfectly, but it will be interesting to see how much useful life we can get out of it. Tune in next time, and we’ll take a closer look at the short term consequences of submerging my Dolomite in seawater. Then I’ll decide whether its worth another shot. Operation Wolf is it not, but it certainly is the successor to the popular Taito arcade game based around shooting down scores and scores of army troops all intent to blow your face off at close quarters. Operation Thunderbolt on the Spectrum isn't arcade perfect (there's no uzi for starters), but it is an arcade game on an 8 bit machine... Somehow amongst this frenzied military attack you survive, and you fire, and you keep firing, possibly just using keyboard controls until you've either wiped out the radical enemy or you've died yourself... likely the latter, especially if you play like me. Let's play! Arnie Commando style. BENNET!
