This is "part of" the preparation process in restoring a vintage Heathkit O-11 oscilloscope. We walk through the some of the more necessary steps in making this old scope dependable again. I also briefly talk about it's validity on the test bench today. If you are interested in seeing a complete vintage scope restoration, leave your answer in the comment section below.

Does Mental practice work? Neuroscience has shown that you can make improvements in your playing even when you aren't able to practice your guitar. This week I give you a simple experiment for you to do to see whether it works for you or not! The exercise I give you is a great left hand workout in its own right so definitely worth getting under your fingers. Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/SixStringsAttachedTV
This is just a clip from an upcoming video where I make Piranha Solution again. Here is just a 2 minute clip of a piece of pork begin completely broken down by the hot piranha. This stuff is extremely dangerous to work with for obvious reasons. It can react explosively with certain organics (like solvents). This piranha is a 3:1 mixture of 98% sulfuric acid to 35% hydrogen peroxide (by volume). Disclaimer: We are not actually making Coke... Hey guys, I just wanted to throw this video out. It is just a clip from the recent iodine clock video, but I thought it deserved to be its own standalone clip. This is an example of what's known at the Iodine Clock Reaction and we aren't actually making real Coke here. Although this video involves many companies such as Sinclair Radionics, Sinclair Instrument Ltd, Thandar Ltd and Cambridge Processor Unit, it boils down to the trading names of Acorn Computers and Sinclair Research and the rivalry between them during the early 1980s era of home computers. It's a very British story of the early micro computer industry, with each company respectively owned by Chris Curry (and Herman Hauser) and Clive Sinclair. This video charts the whole story from the inception of Clive Sinclair's first company, Sinclair Radionics, to when Chris Curry started working for him, to when he left and formed Acorn and when the rivalry of early '80s micros set in with each company trying to compete against other in gaming, educational and professional markets. Join me starting some time in the early '60s for a journey that doesn't really finish until this very day, as we visit Sinclair's Black Watch, the Newbury Newbrain (later it would become the Grundy Newbrain), the Sinclair ZX80, the ZX81, the Spectrum, Sinclair QL and the Spectrum 128k+.... and on Acorn's side, the Acorn System 1, System 2, System 3, Acorn Atom, Acorn Proton, BBC Micro, BBC Micro B, Acorn Electron, BBC Master, Acorn Archimedes and finishing up with the RISC ARM processors developed by the Acorn team in the mid-late 1980s. ☟Subcribe☟ https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1 ✊Support Me! ✊ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http://ebay.to/1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http://amzn.to/1OzCQWR ★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nostalnerd Face: http://www.facebook.com/nostalnerd Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nostalgianerd Web: http://www.nostalgianerd.com ★Equipment★ Lumix G6 with Vario 14-42mm Lens Nikon D3200 with 40mm Macro Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 Blue Snowball Microphone ♜Resources♜ Certain images sourced from Wikipedia. The technological advances that we've investigated so far have revolved around the vacuum tube. But the invention of the transistor really sparked a whole new era of sound. The advent of small circuits for sound reproduction meant that things could shrink. Tape went into cartridges. Amplifiers used less energy. And everything became more robust. Today I'm taking a look at a stack of IBM standard punched cards. Used for inputting data onto early computer systems. This particular style of card was first introduced way back in 1928 and continued to be used well into the 80s on legacy systems. Hollerith cards were also used in fairground attractions and a variety of other mechanical automatron devices in the 19th and 20th centuries. Let's take a quick look. ☟Subcribe☟ https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1 ✊Support Me! ✊ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http://ebay.to/1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http://amzn.to/1OzCQWR ★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nostalnerd Face: http://www.facebook.com/nostalnerd Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nostalgianerd Web: http://www.nostalgianerd.com ★Equipment★ Lumix G6 with Vario 14-42mm Lens Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Stack of IBM Punched Cards ♜Resources♜

I've said it before and I’ll say it again: this channel is a terrible resource for safety advice. Really, I'm going to teach you how to ride off loading docks and in the same breath tell you how to do it safely? Seems a little insincere. I set other bad examples too, like wearing a single impact helmet in a skatepark. The folks over at Plus Sized BMX were quick to point that one out, and they're right, I know better than that. So although I'll never be qualified to provide safety advice, I can certainly up my own safety game a bit. Yes, getting a proper BMX helmet is on the list, but I decided to start by replacing my mountain bike helmet. After all the impacts it's taken, it’s not much more effective than a hat now. This should have been replaced a long time ago, as should any helmet which has been in a crash. I didn’t even notice these cracks in the foam until after a much closer inspection. So, here's my new enduro helmet, the Kali Protectives Maya. This won't be a very critical review because this is probably the nicest helmet I've ever had. I'm actually excited to wear this thing. Not only is it really lightweight and comfortable, but it looks dope. The straps are easy to adjust with these quick release buckles, and the mechanism on the back really hugs your head. While the visor on my old helmet popped off months ago, this visor is held on in a much more substantial way. To summarize, this helmet addresses pretty much every concern a rider could have, including one which is especially important to me: A secure, integrated mount for a light or an action camera. This is the perfect excuse to show you guys some of the stuff I strap to my head. My camera of choice is the GoPro. I have two; a Hero 3 Silver and a Hero 4 black. These cameras come with protective housings that effectively double their weight and size, so I use this little frame with a lens cover instead. It may not be waterproof, but it sure is lighter. On the visor of my new helmet I can barely feel it. Sometimes I use a stabilizer, usually if I'm filming other riders like I am here. In those instances I have this battery powered gimbal on my head. Here I'm following, Phil Kmetz through the woods. Some people asked if this was done with a drone. That goes to show you how important it is for me to have this mount. Sometimes I do need to mount the camera on the back of the helmet, in which case I use this adapter here to get a cool leading shot. In any case I think the design of this helmet is going to make the weight of this stuff less noticeable, as it really feels secure on my head. That aside, the big win here is that my head itself, is now a little more secure. Get it here: http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/maya-helmet/

The streets are calling, so it’s time for another BMX tutorial. Today we’ll learn how to wall ride. A wall ride, simply put, is when you get both your wheels flat on a wall. To do this you need to sort of flip your world on its side. For most BMX riders, this is the first trick that forces them to that. Sure, you need to turn sideways on a quarter pipe, but that’s on a transition which is nothing like a wall ride. This is why wall rides are easiest in places where a wall meets an embankment. The embankment sort of works like a transition, but this trick is also possible to do from flat. Most riders feel comfortable approaching a wall on the side of their dominant foot. So if you coast with your right foot forward like me, you’ll probably want to start by hitting the wall on your right. You'll need to be good at bunny hopping already, and have some experience riding street. By this I mean you’re already hopping on to and over stuff, getting a little creative, and finding spots to session. You’ll need to combine a lot of the things you’ve learned street riding to do a wall ride. One way to start is to find a highway divider like this one, and learn to ride up it a little. Get up some speed and tilt your bike as not to smash your pedal or pegs on it. When coming back off, turn your wheel and pull your bars towards you. You should push yourself to actually hop on. Also learn to tilt yourself to match the angle of your bike, since you’ll need to do that to ride a flat wall. There, you'll need to hop higher and tilt your bike more. Approaching the wall at about a 45 degree angle is the best way to learn as a beginner. Too low of an angle makes it harder to stick the wall ride, and a higher angle can be pretty harsh. Make sure you pull back far enough where the bottom of your wheels are flat with the wall. As long a you don't miss—the wall, you'll at least have the opportunity to save yourself by putting your foot down. Getting off the wall is where your street experience needs to kick in. You'll need to look down at the ground and pull your bars towards you, which is sort of like a 90 degree turn. If you're hitting the wall on the same side as your dominant foot, this should be the same direction you 180 in, and feel pretty natural. So that’s how to wall ride. wall rides are a must learn trick for street riders because they open up so many possibilities. After all, most towns and cities have walls... although I’m sure the bike tire marks are pretty confusing to outsiders. Thanks for riding with me today, and I'll see you next time. Hello and welcome to episode 2 of GBR Thrifts... A very Great British take on thrifting - or charity shopping / bargain shopping / carbooting as it's known over here - and not in any way connected to LGR Thrifts... No sirreeee... that's in America. This is the UK god damn it, and there are British bargains to be had. In today's episode I explore the sprawling nooks of Norwich. In particular Anglia Square and Magdalen Street, which is awash with charity stores, bargain shops, cash generators and quaint vintage shops alike... all potentially holding some retro gaming bounty. Surprisingly I didn't bump into Ashens either. I assume he must hunt these streets late at night, when the true ghouls come out. Apologies for the slightly dodgy camera perspective in this video... it was attached to my coat, but you may be pleased to hear that I've found a new and improved location to clip it to for next time which results in more stability, a better perspective and less hands flying in front of the damn lens! Full transcript available by enabling closed caption (cc) On both my Sync’r Pro and my Mission 2, I have a KS Lev Integra dropper post, which is the integrated version of the normal KS Lev. If you push the switch, the seat post moves freely up and down. If you release it, the seat post locks into place. This is similar to an office chair, except a little more refined. So what do I mean when I say this post is integrated? Well, some bikes come dropper ready, which means they have a port to run a release cable inside the frame. If your bike is dropper ready, you can install pretty much any integrated dropper post, like the Rock Shox Reverb Stealth, or this KS Lev Integra. If your bike isn’t dropper ready, then you can get a normal dropper post and hook the cable up on the outside. This is usually more economical, and easier to install anyway. Once you get accustomed to having a dropper post, you’ll use it all the time. For mountain bikers who have never tried riding with the saddle down low, the benefits may not be immediately obvious. If you fall into that category, I encourage you to drop your saddle and try jumping around a bit. You may find that you can do things you couldn’t before, like maneuvering on to and over pretty big stuff. Once you install your dropper post, you can extend it all the way up and adjust it to your full ride height just like a normal seat post. This way, you can drop it for technical sections, and then pop it back up to your perfect ride height at the flip of a switch. The KS Lev on my Mission has 120mm of travel. On my Sync’r Pro, I purposely bought a 150mm KS Lev since the frame goes lower. Both posts are installed as low as possible, which luckily puts them at my perfect ride height when fully extended. When choosing a post, I was trying to decide between the Rockshox Stealth and the KS Integra. The reason I chose the KS came down to reliability and simplicity, as it uses a cable release as opposed to the hydraulic release on the Rockshox. Sure enough, I took a spill at Grapefruit trails that ripped the cable right out of my dropper post. The repair was easy. If I had the hydraulic release, it would have been significantly more involved to fix. Overall I’m happy with my decision to get the KS Lev. Like most dropper posts you need to keep it clean and make sure it has plenty of air pressure. If I slam it all the way down and leave it overnight, it doesn’t pop up at first without sitting down on it or giving it a good bonk. I’d say this is not really an issue. The seat clamp is pretty basic, but it allows for micro adjustments to the angle of your saddle just like a good seat post should. The release on the bottom of the post is designed so you can disconnect it quickly for service, instead of needing to undo the cable. I’ll also mention that this post comes with a cleverly designed switch, which actually integrates with ODI grips. Although I appreciate the ingenuity, I don’t like using this switch at all, and it constantly rubs on my hand while riding. For a few extra bucks, you can get their Southpaw lever, which is way better, and should come standard in my opinion. The rest of this transcript is available by using the closed caption option. I have 2 large shoe boxes full of MS-DOS and Windows Floppy disks from the 90s, and so rather than letting them fester, I thought we could all start looking at just what's on this little plastic critters. In particular I'm selecting disks which I've labelled with various items (in my teenage years), and I have no real damn idea about what they are any more. So, let's get started on this DOS and Windows voyage of 3.5" Floppy Disk discovery. This disk purports to hold; Sim City WND Files Windows Retina Relief PC Globe for DOS Dr. Watson Atmoids for Windows All crammed into a single HIGH DENSITY Floppy. That's only 1440kb! This liquid changes colour from green to red depending on thickness. It works because of it's unusual absorption spectrum but also becasue of the way our eyes perceive light.
