As more and more EV's make it onto our roadways, people start to freak out about how we're going to charge all these things. The thing is, they shouldn't. EV's are so much more efficient than their gasoline powered counterparts that they don't consume all that much electricity, in fact the size of the grid only needs to increase about 4.5% to accommodate an entirely electric commuter fleet. But people still worry about charging them. In this video, I explain why this shouldn't worry you in the slightest. With my Chevy Volt, I never charge it with anything other than a standard household outlet, and this provides more than enough electricity to get me through my day. Granted, the Volt only has a 40 mile range, and I've got the gas engine to keep me going should I need it, but in the summer time I routinely make it home from work with 10 miles of range or more left. And it only takes 7 hours on my portable charger to get it full for the next day. A household outlet can provide enough electricity to add 80 miles of range to an EV every day, and if you take a look at how you actually drive, you'll discover that for the vast majority of the time, that's plenty. 1* 120V 16 A charging station: http://www.clippercreek.com/store/product/charging-station-acs-20-level-1-permanent-install/ 2* Cost of parking garages: http://www.carlwalker.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/April-Newsletter-2014.pdf Average commercial electricity cost: https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.cfm?t=epmt_5_3 Just a note: Level 3 charging, such as the Tesla Superchargers, is seen as a necessity by people looking into electric cars. There are many people that feel that having charging stations like these spread across the country is the only thing that will make electric cars feasible. Well, they certainly have their use, as the Superchargers allow Tesla owners to take roadtrips in their EVs. And it is true that DC fast charging is the only way to make an electric road trip possible. But road trips represent a tiny fraction of the miles driven by your typical car. People need access to Supercharger-like infrastructure *only* for road trips, as typical daily driving does not require fast charging. In fact, with a 200 mile EV, the battery can be completely recharged in 10 hours with 30 amp level 2 charging, the kind a dryer outlet can provide. People sleep every night, and when you're asleep your car will be charging for the next day of driving. It really is easier than you think.

Hey guys, today we are making some calcium acetate from TUMS. In a previous video I said i would get to this eventually...but I decided to do it right away. I should add, the reason I didn't just try to wash away the sugar with water is because it forms an insanely terrible suspension that is a pain to deal with or filter off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Merch - https://nilered.tv/store ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the community: Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/nilered Discord - https://discord.com/invite/3BT6UHf NileRed Newsletter - https://nile.red/home#newsletter You can also find me here: Facebook - https://m.facebook.com/NileRed2 Instagram - https://m.instagram.com/nile.red Twitter - https://mobile.twitter.com/NileRed2 Nile talks about lab safety: https://youtu.be/ftACSEJ6DZA

Tomy and their Tomytronics brand introduced the world to a lot of small, electronic gaming devices in the 80s, including the Tomytronics 3D series in 1982. This Tomytronics Tennis game is from 1980 and uses a similar LCD style screen, with small images of tennis players and a moving ball. The game allows 1 player operation against the computer, or 2 player gaming using the opposite set of controls. There are 1 Pro modes, and a practice mode. In this video I look at the aesthetics, insert some C batteries, hit it a few times in an attempt to fix it, take it apart, then play a few rounds of tennis on Pro 1, Pro 2 and two player mode - albeit, by my lonesome.. "The 64" is an indiegogo campaign setup by Retro Games Ltd to launch a brand new system, in both portable and desktop form based around the Commodore 64. Aesthetically it has very similar styling, with a trimmed down case. The 64SX is much lighter than the Commdore 64SX original machine and compliments the desktop as a handheld variant. It's claimed the systems will incorporate multiple SID chips and have cartridge functionality, as well as SD and USB connectivity for game images. Looks like it could be pretty interesting if it comes to fruition and doesn't end up like the Coleco Chameleon! I raced some of my much stronger friends to see how I would fair. I vomited from exhaustion. To be fair I was carrying all my camera gear on my back and could have used some water. We came here to Virginia Key today to answer a question that we already know the answer to. When you’re trying to go fast, is power, or technical ability more important? Well, as you could guess speed and endurance are more important on smooth straight trails, and technical ability reigns supreme on rougher sections. This is widely known, but we wanted to try for ourselves anyway. Kevin’s a roady with some mountain biking experience, and Domingo rides everything from XC to Road, to Cyclocross. I’m strictly a technical rider, with almost no endurance whatsoever. Now that I have this YouTube, channel, I film videos every time I ride. Between setting up cameras, repeating shots, and lugging equipment around, I rarely ride for more than a few minutes at a time. The endurance I had a few years ago is totally gone, and I kinda want it back. The problem is that you can’t buy endurance, only rent it. We started off on this mile long XC trail with almost no features. I passed Kevin and Domingo here, but I was vomiting while they weren’t even breaking a sweat. In fact, they were having a casual conversation. Once I stopped vomiting we went to this very short section called Highway to Hell. It has a lot of turns, and a few features that would stop a roady dead in their tracks. Now keep in mind, we’re not even clipped in and Kevin is borrowing one of my very small bikes. So take this experiment for what it’s worth. Domingo went first. He’s never ridden this section before, so it was no surprise that his time improved as he repeated his run, ending with a respectable 1:30 seconds. Kevin ended up being a beast, eventually besting Domingo’s time by 8 seconds, at a 1:22. Although Kevin doesn’t mountain bike often, he has some BMX experience, and rides brazenly. Being that he can sprint close to 40mph on a Road Bike, he’s got no shortage of power. I hope I don’t vomit again trying to beat his time. Here goes. I blew through the turns and made quick work of all the trail features, but it took everything I had. It was worth the effort though, as I beat Kevin’s Time on my first shot with 1:20. On my hardtail, I got down to 1:17. So it seems, a skilled rider can outclass someone much stronger when the terrain gets rough, but what will happen on a longer trail with more varied terrain? We headed over to Warpigs to find out. For someone coming straight from road biking, Warpigs would be pretty scary, but for an experienced trail rider it’s a blast—just some jumps, staircases, and steep features, all packed into a really fun switchback. Domingo got a respectable 1:56, ringing the bell with energy to spare. I started off strong, but the longer flat sections really took their toll, as I basically limped through them to recover my energy. In the end I bested Domingo’s time by a mere 4 seconds, at 1:52. In the end, it was Kevin’s brazen speed and endurance that prevailed, with 1:50. It’s fair to assume that he crushed my times in the flat areas that I limped through. Even though this course was only about 30 seconds longer than Highway to Hell, it was enough to squeeze me for all my energy, so a longer course would likely tip the scale even more in Kevin and Domingo’s favor. So this experiment was fun, and it got me motivated to improve my endurance. As Kevin said, even one endurance ride per week could result in noticeable gains. So, let’s check back with the same experiment later this year. I’d like to try a slightly longer trail with plenty of variation, and see how I fair against these guys, clipped in and geared up properly. If today was any indicator, I might have my work cut out for me. For now, enough with this XC stuff. Frenchie gave us the green light to test out this new berm on a closed segment of trail. Stuff like this is a clear reminder that the most important part of mountain biking is enjoying yourself. Want to see the whole ride where I vomited? Although this video involves many companies such as Sinclair Radionics, Sinclair Instrument Ltd, Thandar Ltd and Cambridge Processor Unit, it boils down to the trading names of Acorn Computers and Sinclair Research and the rivalry between them during the early 1980s era of home computers. It's a very British story of the early micro computer industry, with each company respectively owned by Chris Curry (and Herman Hauser) and Clive Sinclair. This video charts the whole story from the inception of Clive Sinclair's first company, Sinclair Radionics, to when Chris Curry started working for him, to when he left and formed Acorn and when the rivalry of early '80s micros set in with each company trying to compete against other in gaming, educational and professional markets. Join me starting some time in the early '60s for a journey that doesn't really finish until this very day, as we visit Sinclair's Black Watch, the Newbury Newbrain (later it would become the Grundy Newbrain), the Sinclair ZX80, the ZX81, the Spectrum, Sinclair QL and the Spectrum 128k+.... and on Acorn's side, the Acorn System 1, System 2, System 3, Acorn Atom, Acorn Proton, BBC Micro, BBC Micro B, Acorn Electron, BBC Master, Acorn Archimedes and finishing up with the RISC ARM processors developed by the Acorn team in the mid-late 1980s. ☟Subcribe☟ https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1 ✊Support Me! ✊ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http://ebay.to/1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http://amzn.to/1OzCQWR ★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nostalnerd Face: http://www.facebook.com/nostalnerd Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nostalgianerd Web: http://www.nostalgianerd.com ★Equipment★ Lumix G6 with Vario 14-42mm Lens Nikon D3200 with 40mm Macro Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 Blue Snowball Microphone ♜Resources♜ Certain images sourced from Wikipedia. The technological advances that we've investigated so far have revolved around the vacuum tube. But the invention of the transistor really sparked a whole new era of sound. The advent of small circuits for sound reproduction meant that things could shrink. Tape went into cartridges. Amplifiers used less energy. And everything became more robust. Today I'm taking a look at a stack of IBM standard punched cards. Used for inputting data onto early computer systems. This particular style of card was first introduced way back in 1928 and continued to be used well into the 80s on legacy systems. Hollerith cards were also used in fairground attractions and a variety of other mechanical automatron devices in the 19th and 20th centuries. Let's take a quick look. ☟Subcribe☟ https://www.youtube.com/user/nostalgianerdvideos?sub_confirmation=1 ✊Support Me! ✊ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h Visit my eBay Shop: http://ebay.to/1QQpYyy Buy From Amazon (affiliate): http://amzn.to/1OzCQWR ★Nerd Social★ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nostalnerd Face: http://www.facebook.com/nostalnerd Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nostalgianerd Web: http://www.nostalgianerd.com ★Equipment★ Lumix G6 with Vario 14-42mm Lens Corel Video Studio Ultimate X7 Stack of IBM Punched Cards ♜Resources♜

I've said it before and I’ll say it again: this channel is a terrible resource for safety advice. Really, I'm going to teach you how to ride off loading docks and in the same breath tell you how to do it safely? Seems a little insincere. I set other bad examples too, like wearing a single impact helmet in a skatepark. The folks over at Plus Sized BMX were quick to point that one out, and they're right, I know better than that. So although I'll never be qualified to provide safety advice, I can certainly up my own safety game a bit. Yes, getting a proper BMX helmet is on the list, but I decided to start by replacing my mountain bike helmet. After all the impacts it's taken, it’s not much more effective than a hat now. This should have been replaced a long time ago, as should any helmet which has been in a crash. I didn’t even notice these cracks in the foam until after a much closer inspection. So, here's my new enduro helmet, the Kali Protectives Maya. This won't be a very critical review because this is probably the nicest helmet I've ever had. I'm actually excited to wear this thing. Not only is it really lightweight and comfortable, but it looks dope. The straps are easy to adjust with these quick release buckles, and the mechanism on the back really hugs your head. While the visor on my old helmet popped off months ago, this visor is held on in a much more substantial way. To summarize, this helmet addresses pretty much every concern a rider could have, including one which is especially important to me: A secure, integrated mount for a light or an action camera. This is the perfect excuse to show you guys some of the stuff I strap to my head. My camera of choice is the GoPro. I have two; a Hero 3 Silver and a Hero 4 black. These cameras come with protective housings that effectively double their weight and size, so I use this little frame with a lens cover instead. It may not be waterproof, but it sure is lighter. On the visor of my new helmet I can barely feel it. Sometimes I use a stabilizer, usually if I'm filming other riders like I am here. In those instances I have this battery powered gimbal on my head. Here I'm following, Phil Kmetz through the woods. Some people asked if this was done with a drone. That goes to show you how important it is for me to have this mount. Sometimes I do need to mount the camera on the back of the helmet, in which case I use this adapter here to get a cool leading shot. In any case I think the design of this helmet is going to make the weight of this stuff less noticeable, as it really feels secure on my head. That aside, the big win here is that my head itself, is now a little more secure. Get it here: http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/maya-helmet/
