The Army-Navy Screen Magazine Number 55, 1945 01 Bastogne: Short film about Bastogne, introduced by Lt. Clair Hess of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Co F, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne. 02 By Request: Short film compilations - One film is about Lexington, Kentucky and the University of K. Also includes a film of the G.I. Jive radio show, including G.I. Jill (Martha Wilkerson). (More here http://archive.org/details/AfrsG.i.Jive.) Another film includes NYC at Easter and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The final film is probably from the January 11, 1945 episode of Command Performance and features Jimmy Durante, Alan Jenkins, William Gargan, Hugh Herbert, Ed Brophy, Sterling Holloway, Hugh Herbert, Andy Devine, Alan Hale, Arthur Treacher, and Robert Benchley all singing "Down By The Old Mill Stream." The Army-Navy Screen Magazine 55 1945: the entire newsreel. The Army-Navy Screen Magazine was produced by the U.S. Army Signal Corps Pictorial Service, under the supervision of Col. Frank Capra, who came up with the idea. It was released twice a month and shown to military troops as a 20-minute newsreel. "By the end of the war, the Army-Navy Screen Magazine reached an enormous weekly audience of 4.2 million. It had become for American soldiers all over the world a communal experience that greatly influenced their perception of the war." It featured short documentary films, news from back home, and short training films like Dr. Seuss' Private Snafu cartoons. I've uploaded the entire Screen Magazine and also each segment as a separate file (some editions are comprised of 1 long film, though). Description at the National Archives:"Reel 1: on the 101st Airborne Div. at Bastogne. Troops move out of a recreation area and Belgian civilians are evacuated. Supplies are air-dropped and gliders land. Shows combat in the snow; German dead and prisoners; and Gen. McAuliffe. Reel 2 shows the main street of Lexington and the campus of the University of Kentucky. The "G.I. Jive" music program is broadcast. Shows New York City at the Easter Season and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Jimmy Durante, Andy Devine, and Robert Benchley joke and sing."
Yes! It's frickin' DOOM on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. I was as shocked as you were, but this little beauty actually emerged in 1996 from the Russian demo scene. The original demo can be run on a Sinclair Spectrum 128k+ and the beta can run on a Spectrum 128k compatible with TR-DOS. Most Russian Speccy clones used TR-DOS, hence it's requirement. Given the limitations of the hardware, this game is quite a remarkable feat. An action camera needs to be tough, and it also needs to be capable. If it’s not tough, or capable, then it needs to be really cheap. Meet SJCAM, the king of the GoPro knockoffs. It looks identical to the GoPro, and sports most of the features of this year’s Hero Silver, like Wifi, a screen, and lots of shooting modes. It can even shoot in 4k, which is only available on the Hero Black. At $120 on gearbest.com, the SJCAM is within the means of most riders, but how good is it in reality? I’m pretty skeptical about features like 4k on products this cheap, but I was actually impressed. I used it for a few shots this weekend, which made it into my Grapefruit trails video. Here is some stabilized riding footage I took with it. The only reason I didn’t include any of this footage in my video was that the camera was angled too low. On future rides, this might be a great secondary camera to mount to the bike or to someone else. Full disclosure: This camera was given to me by Gearbest for review. It is what it is, so let the footage speak for itself. If you ask me, it's worth every bit of $120, but is far inferior to a GoPro. It would also be interesting to pair this camera with a cheap single axis gimbal, and try to piece together a stabilized helmet cam for under $200. Between my $400 Hero Black, and my $300 gimbal, I’m riding around with $700 worth of very breakable electronics on my helmet while I careen through mountain bike trails. To get comparable results out of a much cheaper rig could make this more practical for the average rider. I might experiment with that. While this SJCAM does have pretty decent video, the audio is almost unusable. See here. Now here’s my GoPro. That’s a night and day difference, but we’re also comparing two cameras that are priced very differently. For me, the SJCAM will always be a spare, but for a lot of riders it could be a great primary camera to bring out on the trails. Whether you’re filming your friends or mounting it to your helmet, it should survive the abuse. Of course, it also comes with this bulky case which makes it totally indestructible, but like the GoPro it makes it heavier and blocks the microphone. If you feel like you’re riding with a cat on your head, it’s because you’re using your action camera like this, instead of like this. For me, video is a really important part of mountain biking. It’s a way to share your experiences with friends, and maybe even convince them to take up the sport. It’s a way to rub in your coworker’s face what you did on your day off, or just prove to your riding buddies that you finally did that drop from last time. A lot of you guys have been asking about video, and that’s why I’m showing you this affordable camera today. Let me know in the comments what you think, and check my website for the exact settings I used on my SJCAM to get the best quality. Here are the settings http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/sjcam-elite/ Camera link: http://goo.gl/aLSqbq Get the slim housing for GoPro here: http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/go-pro-open-housing/ Stabilizer Gimbal: http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/z1-rider-m-camera-stabilizer/ We have shirts now! https://bermpeak.com/collections/casual-apparel

Following in the footsteps of Theme Park, it's everyone's favourite Hospital management game... Theme Hospital, by Bullfrog Productions and released by Electronic Arts in the States during the summer of 1997 and following in Europe in early 1998. Theme Hospital is by far one of my favourite late 90s DOS games, involving the micro management of your initially empty hospital. Your job is to create your own place of health and revitalisation by placing reception desks, creating rooms, hiring staff and then curing diseases such as Bloaty head and Invisibility. It's a great game where the hours seem to fly by, but for today, I've limited myself to about 15 minutes! Come join me. Getting there with the last major panels for Hulkbuster! In this series, I build a complete Iron Man Hulkbuster cosplay with animatronics and mechatronics with a step-by-step guide to cover everything you’ll need to build your very own suit. From 3D printing the parts to installing the mechanics that make this whole suit wearable and actually able to walk around. ① GENIUS No MacArthur grant yet. But while I’m still waiting by the phone for that call, maybe you might patronise me with your Patreon-age. Or, if you’re all out of digital cash just comment on one of my hilarious Instagram pics, pop me a Tweet or generally yell in my direction. I've got an idea! How 'bout we make a short film about the importance of staying healthy for the war effort and we have Andy Devine and Broderick Crawford star in it! (to be fair, Andy Devine is a 'don't be like this' example.) Also starring: Lon Chaney Jr, Robert Stack, Anne Gwynne, Irene Hervey, Ralph Morgan, Louise Allbritton, Mary Gordon, Russell Hicks, Susan Levine, Don Porter, Mary Wickes 1942
Hey guys, in this video we will be making a little bit of basic copper carbonate. To do this, we use copper sulfate pentahydrate and sodium carbonate (which was made in a previous video). I will use this to make pyridine from niacin (vitamin B3). The main thing that I will use pyridine for is as an organic catalyst. The short radius is still very important, so don't overlook anything. The video above is a simple, condensed how to guide on cylinder head porting and polishing. It is meant for novice and inexperienced porters who want to know what is porting and polishing and how to do it with their own cylinder head. Its sort of a porting a polishing guide for dummies if you will. But it is also detailed and specific and guides the average DIY enthusiast in exactly what, where and how to do what needs to be done in order to increase the airflow and thereby the performance of your cylinder head. The head in this video is 4age 16v bigport head from the 4age engine from my 1987 Toyota MR2 AW11. Every cylinder head is different and there are variations in what should be done during a porting and polishing job. The specifics and details of this particular cylinder head porting and polishing job apply best to the 4age bigport head, but the general principles, tools and methods are pretty much the same for any other stage 1 mild porting job and watching this video will give you a better idea of what needs to be done and how much time is needed to successfully perform a porting and polishing job. Check out my blog for more MR2, 4AGE, DIY, and other content. http://www.driving4answers.com/ Here's a nice quote from the jafromobile channel: „There are MANY, and when I say many, I mean thousands of flame war mongering pirates floating around on rough seas with a hair trigger cannon finger itching to fire if you port a head any differently than what the herd mentality says to do while porting a cylinder head„ There is no better way to say it than this. There is no SINGLE RIGHT WAY of porting and polishing a head. Even when it comes to two identical heads (and no two really are). So before posting a hateful comment and telling me I just „ruined my head“ or started the next apocalypse, please have in mind that there are hundreds of different cylinder head applications and dozens of different approaches to porting. The porting and polishing work depends on the particular application of that head. This is a simple, mild stage 1 porting job for a mild 4age 16v bigport engine build. The goal was to improve airflow without drastically changing the shape of the ports. What can not be argued against is that improving airflow improves horsepower, torque and mpg. Porting and polishing improves airflow. This can not be argued against. Removing rough and sharp edges in the combustion chamber helps prevent knocking when engine compression is increased. This also can not be argued against. Everything else is the subject of debate so saying that the way someone ported and polished their head is horrible because it varies from what YOU think is right and best is wrong unless that someone used a hammer and chisel to port their head. Please do the research first and if that research objectively proves that something is wrong you are welcome to comment, and even then constructive criticism is far more helpful than insults. What I have done has not been based on my own theories or knowledge, but on the advice and material from people who have ported dozens of 4age heads and have proven benefits of their work. This video would not have been possible without the input, advice and help from people who have proven experience of porting 4age and other heads. So here's a special thanks to OST, without whose advice and help I could not have ported the 4AGE 16v bigport head you see in this video. The Army-Navy Screen Magazine Number 27, 1944 01 Just Like Home: Off-duty activities on a Pacific island. 02 East Side West Side: Short film about NYC's Lower East Side, narrated by former New York governor Al Smith. 03 Going Home: Short film about the Free French Forces who trained as pilots in Florida then returned to bomb the Germans in France. 04 Private Snafu - Gas: Short animated training film about the gas mask, starring Pvt Snafu. The Army-Navy Screen Magazine 27 1944: the entire newsreel The Army-Navy Screen Magazine was produced by the U.S. Description at the National Archives: "Reel 1, 13th Air Force men fish, spear crabs, roast a goat, and relax on a South Pacific island. Al Smith comments while a film about New York's East Side is shown. Shows a fish market, "foreign" stores, and dwellings. Children collect scrap, women sew, and blood is donated to the Red Cross. Reel 2 shows a church service. French pilots graduate in Florida, and later fly over France bombing, strafing, and observing German installations. An allied plane is downed. Pvt. Snafu (animation), unprepared at gas drill, is given extra training, but does not realize the importance of his gas mask until a gas cloud closes in on him."
It's never too early for mountain biking, as long as I have my coffee. This morning I'm driving two hours to Palm Bay, to check out a bike park one of my subscribers told me about. Palm Bay isn’t the first town that comes to mind when you mention mountain biking, so I was surprised as anyone when I heard there was an amazing spot here. A few minutes off I95, tucked away in the back of a neighborhood street, you'll find one hidden gem of a trail. Grapefruit Trails gets its name from the citrus trees throughout the park. The entire trail system is only 2 miles, but it's packed with advanced features, like doubles, hips, gaps, and drops. There's even a huge BMX section at the back, which was covered in tarps to protect it from heavy rains. Today was trail maintenance day, so I got to meet some of the folks that make this place possible. The maintenance crew here rivals that of much larger parks, and as a result the trails are always changing rapidly. The city provides them with truckloads of fresh clay, but they rely on donations for tools, equipment, coffee, and hotdogs—all very essential supplies for both the project and the team’s morale. On trails like this, hardtails shine. The rigid rear lets you boost lips and pump landings. If you take a jump smoothly there's barely any impact, and you can maintain your speed with no pedaling at all. The locals were joking that I didn't have any air in my tires. At 30psi, I ended up belching hard. The singletrack here is short and fun, with a few jumps along the way. The rest of the park is filled with short, intense runs, almost reminiscent of a BMX park or skills course. For riders like me without much endurance, it’s a dream come true. The riders here like to hang out and session these sections of the trail. We rode the zebra drop over and over. It starts out with a nice run up under a canopy of trees, followed by drop with a zebra print rug bolstering the landing. This is followed by long mellow jump that sends you into a berm, followed by a short U-shaped bridge. It's short, sweet, and addictive. I would drive two hours just to ride this over and over. I'm usually bummed out to leave any trails, but the riders here at Grapefruit felt like people I've known my whole life. I’m excited to visit them again soon, and ride the rest of their amazing spot. So to you all at Grapefruit, thanks for riding with me on Saturday, and I'll see you next time. T-shirts: https://bermpeak.com/collections/casual-apparel
