I’ve been getting a lot of requests for another “how to 180” tutorial. this is pretty much the least practical thing you can do on a mountain bike, but it looks cool and gets you major style points, so let's get to it. First you want to get comfortable coming out of a fakie. Rolling down a little slope or pushing off a wall is a great way to practice. Turn your bars and push down on your pedal to lift the front end up and whip around. You’ll eventually get this after a lot of trial and error. Once it's ingrained in your memory, drop your saddle as low as it can go and get ready to throw a 180. You'll need a pretty decent grasp of either English or American bunny hops. I usually use an English hop to 180 a mountain bike, but it actually looks more stylish with an American bunnyhop. This method also lets you hop higher. The concept is the same though for both methods, so learn whichever way you feel most comfortable. Now get going a comfortable speed and carve in the direction you want to spin. Preload your suspension while carving and then hop while twisting your body. You want to get yourself and the bike rotating, but also twist the bike into position. Once you land, you can bring your body back in line with the bike. Once I carve and take off, I have a tendency to turn the front wheel in the opposite direction of the carve. This is a perfect setup for spinning back around. If you want to roll fakie for longer then you'll need to have the bars dead straight when you land. So now for some tips. A lot of people say they have trouble getting the full rotation. To them I say "jump higher and spin harder". You’re going to need to look with your eyes and commit to the spin, which I’ve said many times in the past. A lot of people whip the back end out, but this will only destroy your rear wheel. Concentrate on spinning, not whipping. Another really common issue is that the chain pops off. If you have two chainrings up front this is almost inevitable. Having a good derailleur with a clutch is essential, and staying in sort of a middle gear helps keep everything straight. Mountain bikes are not really made to ride backwards on, so we can't blame Sram or Shimano for this. So that’s it, hopefully you don’t taco you rear wheel learning this. Maybe next time we’ll talk about 360’s so you can taco your front wheel too. Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next T-Shirts https://bermpeak.com/collections/casual-apparel

We challenged schools around the UK to choose a museum object, carry out a historical enquiry and share their findings with us in their own special way. The winning entry came from Coopers Edge School, who chose a Typhoon fighter plane from their local museum and created a video to show what they learned. We met the students as they told us about their investigation into this object at school and at the Jet Age Museum. They also extended their historical enquiry with a visit to the British Museum which included a behind-the-scenes tour.

The British Museum’s collection is for the whole of the UK. From Aberdeen to Anglesey, Belfast to Blackburn, Perth to Penzance, thousands of objects are lent to other museums and galleries every year. Last year 3 million visitors saw British Museum objects on display in museums and galleries across the UK. Find out how we work with 250 organisations across the UK to make the Museum’s collection and expertise available to the widest possible audience. Find out more: http://citizen.britishmuseum.org

When you hear Edvard Grieg, you know it's morning again. It's 10 minutes to seven, and I'm about to take full advantage of South Florida's most prized asset, the coastline. I know we've talked about the benefits of riding early before, but actually watching the sun rise is incredible. You may have ridden your bike on a boardwalk or something close to the beach, but the moist sand by the coast is actually rideable. Just make sure to hose your bike off later. Because the sun is at such a low angle, the atmosphere absorbs the blue light and makes everything look orange. All the shadows look really dramatic, causing textured surfaces have more contrast. Photographers and cinematographers know this as golden hour, when everything just looks, “doper”. I've been out to these rocks on foot a bunch of times, but always wondered what it would be like to ride them. I'm probably better off on a smaller bike, but there are a surprising amount of rideable lines here. With a lot of practice I could probably get from one end to the other. Someone with trials skills would have a really good morning here. Once the sun climbs higher the beach fills up with tourists, and I should probably get the hell off the rocks. Plus, I’ve gotta be at work soon. Thanks for riding with me this morning, and I’ll see you next time. T-Shirts https://bermpeak.com/collections/casual-apparel

Note: The MnO2 that i used was likely contaminated with A LOT of carbon. I think if more pure MnO2 were used, the yield would be a lot better. In this video, we whip up some bromine using sulfuric acid drain cleaner, MnO2 from batteries, and sodium bromide pool solution. At around 8 minutes, it should be sodium bisulfate not potassium! I made a mistake. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Merch - https://nilered.tv/store ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the community: Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/nilered Discord - https://discord.com/invite/3BT6UHf NileRed Newsletter - https://nile.red/home#newsletter You can also find me here: Facebook - https://m.facebook.com/NileRed2 Instagram - https://m.instagram.com/nile.red Twitter - https://mobile.twitter.com/NileRed2 Nile talks about lab safety: https://youtu.be/ftACSEJ6DZA

Eleanor Soo-ah Hyun curates the British Museum’s Korean collections – something she never dreamt of growing up in New York City!   Eleanor talks about the need for the displays in the Museum’s Korean gallery to change regularly – to show new objects and make sure others can be conserved. Sometimes it’s like being on a scavenger hunt to find contemporary pieces that speak to the ancient objects…   Curator’s Corner is the British Museum’s first YouTube series, and was selected from a number of potential series proposed by the Museum in December 2015: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luXVd   New episodes of Curator's Corner come out every other Wednesday. In this video I demonstrate the Ring WiFi Video Doorbell - *A FIRST GENERATION RECHARGEABLE VERSION*. I ultimately decide that it's not suitable for my needs. In the end I opted for a traditional Wireless Doorbell - the TEQIN Obell What makes this one special is that the outside button generates its own electricity when pressed - so no need to worry about batteries going flat. If you are interested, here's a link to it on Amazon http://amzn.to/1WGxlLX (UK) http://amzn.to/1Q9f2Lm (US) NOTE RING NO LONGER SELL THIS RECHARGEABLE VERSION - I can see why. This is Miami, hardly the place you would expect to find mountain bike trials. Miami is more of a testament to urban development than anything else, but a little island off Key Biscane is a product of exactly that. Frenchy is arguably the most important man in all of Miami, as far as we’re concerned anyway. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, he’s converted a landfill into beautiful switchback mountain bike trails. It’s hard to believe this whole island didn’t even exist before the Port of Miami was dredged. Nature has certainly taken it over quickly. In 2011, the newly formed Virginia Key Bicycle club got the thumbs up to start building trails here. The city had nothing to lose and everything to gain. According to Frenchy, there have been more volunteer hours logged here in the last 5 years than any other trail in South Florida. At the beginning of the project, Frenchy’s primary goal was to make the park accessible to as many people as possible. He wanted the community to love the park, and they did. The volunteers up on this stage have logged the most time of anyone, with some of them spending over 800 hours of their own time working on the trails. With the remaining acreage, Frenchy has plans for more difficult trails. The very people who got into mountain biking here are now growing and improving their skills, thirsty for new challenges. Today is the park’s 5 year anniversary, and there’s a brand new black diamond section opening in a few minutes. Frenchy is kicking things off by popping a bottle of champagne with a machete. I’m not sure if it’s for the anniversary or the new section, but it’s some handy machete-work nonetheless. There’s reason to celebrate too, as this park has had an enormous effect on the local cycling economy. Whenever there’s an event here, shops, bike companies, and riders come out in droves, eager to see the continued success of the park. There are enough demo bikes here for everyone. Now that the champagne hacking is through, we’re riding a huge train through the adaptive trails, ending with the opening of the new black diamond run. I saw some stuff there yesterday which had me itching to come back today. Here goes… The new section has a little something for everyone. From what Frenchy tells me there will be more to come, including a continuation of this trail. I plan on spending a lot more time here at Virginia Key, even if I need to fight Miami’s traffic to do so. T-Shirts https://bermpeak.com/collections/casual-apparel
