Een auto heeft deze week van dinsdagavond tot en met woensdagmiddag een van de drie lifthuisjes van de Vijzelgrachtgarage bezet gehouden. Volgens de eigenaar was dat de schuld van de garage zelf, iets wat sommige buurtbewoners zich kunnen voorstellen. In totaal telt de automatische ondergrondse garage drie lifthuisjes en automobilisten moesten door het bezette huisje soms langer wachten om te parkeren of hun auto te halen. Een buurtbewoner die de garage zelf niet gebruikt zei dat hij zelf de auto zou laten wegslepen als hij de beheerder van de garage zou zijn, maar dat mocht volgens een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Centrum niet. In dit soort gevallen wordt het kenteken nagetrokken en wordt, als het kenteken bekend is, de automobilist gebeld. Het was woensdagmiddag bij de gemeente nog niet bekend dat de wagen er sinds dinsdagavond al stond, maar na navraag door AT5 is er volgens de woordvoerder wel meteen actie ondernomen. Er waren door buurtbewoners twee briefjes achter de ruitenwisser geplakt met onder meer de tekst 'niet weglopen aso'. Zij hadden het vermoeden dat de automobilist de procedure bij het parkeren niet goed had gevolgd: je moet na het neerzetten van de auto controlevragen invullen en wachten tot de auto daadwerkelijk naar beneden gaat. De eigenaar van de auto is woensdagmiddag uiteindelijk via de buurtwhatsapp bereikt. Zij bood haar excuses aan en schreef dat ze de auto naar beneden had laten gaan en daarna was weggelopen. De auto zou later weer omhoog zijn gekomen, maar toen was ze al weg. Het zou dus een fout van de garage zijn. Andere buurtbewoners dachten ook dat het aan de garage kan liggen. "Soms heb je weleens dat je je auto ophaalt, maar dan komt hij niet omhoog", zegt een van hen. "En dan moet je heel lang wachten. Dat heb ik laatst ook gehad. En dan kan het zijn dat diegene weg is gegaan en niet teruggekomen. Of misschien is hij vanzelf omhoog gekomen." De woordvoerder van het stadsdeel kan nog niet bevestigen dat deze auto vanzelf naar boven is gekomen. Er worden op een later moment camerabeelden bekeken om de oorzaak vast te stellen. Het zou volgens de woordvoerder niet eerder zijn voorgekomen dat een auto vanzelf omhoog ging. De garage, die ongeveer twintig miljoen euro heeft gekost, werd in 2023 geopend.
