If you hang around a lot of cyclists, it’s only a matter of time before you encounter some…creations. Mutant bikes, frankenstein bikes. Bikes with extra chromosomes. Here’s one right here. Joker built his Tall bike from an old cruiser frame, some pipes, rope, and a dickload of tape. The man is an artisan. The only thing that most tall bikes have in common is that they start out with a bike frame turned upside down. This frame is used for the rear wheel and drivetrain, but anything stacked on top of that is up to the mad scientist building it. I must admit this bike is challenging to mount, but once it gets going it’s a lot like any other bike except way more fun. The breeze up here is awesome. Some cities, including fort lauderdale, deploy police officers on horseback. They say it gives them a better vantage point to monitor their surroundings. I say, they could save a lot of money by getting tall bikes. They cost way less, they’re odorless, and as far as I know they never shit in the street.

We will be extracting some caffeine from coffee today! I used regular coffee grounds, but I think the process is actually faster and easier with instant coffee. In theory the yield should have been hovering around 300mg if ALL the caffeine was removed. However, I got around 10% of that (30mg). Apparently 10g makes about a cup of coffee, so a yield of 30mg isn't that horrible. Industrially, the caffeine is made synthetically and not extracted because it isn't really economical. The only time caffeine is extracted is for making decaffeinated coffee. But in that case, the end product is the coffee itself and the caffeine is a by-product. It is just much cheaper to make the caffeine directly. Ill be doing a future video on how to get caffeine from caffeine pills. I am lazy and it is getting there. I have been spending most of my time focusing on filming new experiments, so I often forget about the other things. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Merch - https://nilered.tv/store ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the community: Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/nilered Discord - https://discord.com/invite/3BT6UHf NileRed Newsletter - https://nile.red/home#newsletter You can also find me here: Facebook - https://m.facebook.com/NileRed2 Instagram - https://m.instagram.com/nile.red Twitter - https://mobile.twitter.com/NileRed2 Nile talks about lab safety: https://youtu.be/ftACSEJ6DZA

Next video: https://youtu.be/fSzBf_04CEA?list=PL5S7V5NhM8JQMDBn-phBthNl7pCdQrC46 In the last video, we got a basic overview of what mountain bike trials is. In this video, we’ll be learning the most basic trials technique there is to know, the track stand. In traditional cycling, you keep your bike upright by moving forwards and steering, but in trials you don’t always have that luxury. Therefore, you need to know how to stay up while standing in place. It’ll soon become very apparent why this is important. A track stand on a mountain bike can be achieved in a few ways. If you’re on an incline, you can just crank forwards and backwards a few inches to balance your bike, it just takes a little practice to get the hang of. Keeping your front wheel turned about 45 degrees is a huge help. Even if you have just a little bump to rest one of your wheels on, you can achieve this same motion in a slightly trickier way. If you have nothing to bump your wheel on, you’ll need to rely on your brakes and body weight to shift the bike around. Try locking up your brakes, shifting your weight back, and then releasing your brake. Your bike should lurch back, which can be immediately followed by a small crank forwards to maintain your balance. Once you get the hang of standing in place, you should practice riding in super tight quarters. In mountain bike trials, you’ll find yourself in situations where you need to precisely maneuver your bike into position for your next move. Learning how to ride with this type of precision is a great first step, even if you start with something simple. Try riding around inside your garage, or in confined area like a parking space. Like I’ve mentioned before you can practice track stands anywhere, including a garage, an apartment, or even a bedroom. Practice this technique, no matter how pointless it may appear to be now. In the next video you’ll be glad you learned how. You'll be learning how to reposition yourself during a track stand using an english bunny hop.
This week I take some of the Legato ideas that we previously developed and apply them to some basic Arpeggio structures. Next video https://youtu.be/1UWjHaINV4E?list=PL5S7V5NhM8JQMDBn-phBthNl7pCdQrC46 In the following videos, we’ll be learning some techniques that fall under the category of mountain bike trials. The techniques used in trials are characterized by track stands, bunny hops, and explosive bursts of power to get up and over obstacles. In mountain biking, we use momentum and speed to get through tough terrain. In trials, you’re expected to get your bike up completely ridiculous obstacles from a dead stop. There are bikes out there built specifically for trials riding. These bikes come in many shapes and sizes, but the characteristics that make them trials bikes are generally the same. They all have wide handlebars for leverage and control, one really low ass gear for power, robust braking for locking up the wheels, and a geometry that looks more like a pogo stick than a bike frame. Purebred trials bikes don’t even have seats. This is my bike. It’s a street trials bike, which means it’s like a cross between a trials bike and a BMX. We can split hairs, but that’s basically what it is. It’s the closest thing I have to a purebred trials bike anyway. The wheels are 24 inches, the tires are pretty fat, and look at how ridiculously huge these disc brakes are for such a small wheel. If you look at the bottom bracket, it’s super close to the rear wheel too, which makes it easier to get the front off the ground. It’s not so good for getting around town, but it’s awesome for jumping around on. In this video series, we’ll be learning some basic trials skills that can be performed on a normal mountain bike. Knowing these techniques can make you a drastically better mountain biker, and open up your options when it comes to riding spots. So drop your saddle, let some air out of those tires, and throw on a fresh set of brake pads. We’re gonna have some fun. In the next video, we’ll be learning the most basic trials technique there is: Track standing. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time.

Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness I know you know that I made those mistakes maybe once or twice By once or twice I mean maybe a couple of hundred times So let me, oh let me redeem, oh redeem myself tonight Cause I just need one more shot at second chances Is it too late now to say sorry? Cause I'm missing more than just your body Is it too late now to say sorry? Yeah I know that I let you down Is it too late to say that I'm sorry now? I'm sorry, yeah Sorry, yeah Sorry Yeah I know that I let you down Is it too late to say sorry now? I'll take every single piece of the blame if you want me to But you know that there is no innocent one in this game for two I'll go, I'll go and then you go, you go out and spill the truth Can we both say the words and forget this? I made it to experiment with editing and uploading in 4K. This is not something I plan to do with all my videos due to the file sizes. As far as the point of the video - it's just a bit of a visual joke - the idea was to enjoy a coffee and music on the go in an unnecessarily overcomplicated manner. In real life most people will use their phone for music and a shop for the coffee. I wanted to shoot this on a bench in the middle of nowhere, but couldn't find a suitably secluded one, so shot it in the back garden where I could easily have just popped back into the house to get a coffee. If you think the idea of using a car battery to power a turntable and portable car coffee machine is a bit ridiculous - it is, and that's the point....it's just a bit of fun. Incidentally the car power inverter introduced a buzz into the audio, so this isn't really a practical solution to powering a mains record player on the go. If you are interested in finding more about the handpresso range of portable espresso machines their official Website is here: http://www.handpresso.com This 4K video was shot using a Sony RX10ii - and edited in iMovie 10.1 The 3min 20sec file uploaded to youtube was 717MB The music is from the Youtube audio library. The titles of the tracks are 1) Right Place, Right Time 2) Safety Net The video resolution is UHD which is not strictly 4K - 4K is specified as 4096 x 2160 pixels and is a 1.9:1 aspect ratio. This is a 16:9 ratio video in 3840 x 2160 resolution. However the UHD/4K terms are commonly interchanged as 3840 x 2160 is the resolution used at home on UHD/4K TVs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution The title of the video is a play on words on a 1992 Willie D gangster rap album (I'm goin' out lika soldier). Unfortunately Al Fresco is missing a space on the title card. AFFLIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE All links are Affiliated where possible. In the last video, we took our Walmart Mongoose to the mountain bike trails, and verified that it would hold up to the short term needs of a beginner riding novice trails. I say short term because the hubs on this bike are wearing at an alarming pace. The headset is awful too, and by awful I mean it sucks shit. So now there's only one thing left to find out. What can I do on this bike before it fails violently and catastrophically? Time to ride some street. Now, keep in mind, an experienced rider can do pretty gnarly maneuvers on even an entry level bike. It’s when you start crashing and taking hard landings that you can really tell what a bike is made of. This bike is made of pure, liquefied garbage. It must be. The parts bend very easily, but you can just bend them back. I’m not sure how I feel about that. We kept subjecting this bike to increasing levels of abuse, bending and tweaking it back into place as we went along. You’ve gotta admit, it shouldn’t have survived this drop. The chainring can’t take a hit, but we’ll let that slide. After getting the Mongoose running again, I was pretty sure that any more damage would require tools to correct. So, I decided to attempt a 360 on it. After dicking with the wheel and front brakes, I was able to limp home on this bike, but I think it's safe to say you shouldn’t be riding street trials on a Walmart Mongoose. There actually exists a discussion board all about buying, repairing, and modifying department store bikes. That’s cool. These guys are hobbyists and they know what they’re getting themselves into. As for the average joe or jane who’s looking to start mountain biking, you’re probably better off at a bike shop that can stand by their assembly. Fancy going behind the scenes at the British Museum? Think you and your class could tell your version of history in one of the world’s biggest museums? Then the Huge History Lesson is right up your street: http://www.TES.com/hugehistory Your challenge is to take a historical object, find out all you can about it and then tell the story (or stories) you think the world will find the most interesting. You could make a podcast, a documentary film, a play, a poem – or your own new and exciting format! But remember – while technology helps us unwrap some of history’s greatest mysteries, many of the greatest discoveries were made with just a pen and paper. So head to your local museum and create something new out of something very old (or not so old). If you can’t get down to a museum, don’t worry – you can find a handy list of 100 key objects from museums around the UK at http://www.teachinghistory100.org The Huge History Lesson is a partnership between the British Museum and TES, supported by Arts Council England.

In the last video, we bought a $140 bike from Walmart and corrected a bunch of issues with its assembly. Today, we’re off to Amelia Earhart mountain bike trails to test out the Mongoose for real. This is my sister, Emily. She’s an avid road cyclist, but has only been mountain biking once. Emily will be taking the Mongoose on the novice trails so we can see if it’s any good for a beginner. At 35 pounds, this bike weighs about 1/3 as much as Emily does. The novice trails here offer a mix of loose terrain, mud, roots, and various other small obstacles. Emily didn’t have any problems at all on the mongoose, it must be in her blood. We rode through every novice trail here and then went back to the car to check the bike out. No issues, and no adjustments needed. The bike was in perfect working order. We went back out again but we swapped bikes this time. I rode the mongoose like a complete dick, first on the novice trails to see what it could do. The first thing I noticed was how smooth the ride was. At $140 I expected the suspension to be little more than a gimmick, but it was surprisingly plush and effective. The shifting wasn’t as impressive though. The rear worked fine, more or less, but the setup in the front was a noisy mess. The brakes weren’t great either, but they did work. Surprisingly, the saddle was comfortable and I didn’t hate riding this bike at all. Actually, I was having a blast on it, just seeing what was possible. It was time to subject the mongoose to some intermediate trails. Again, the bike performed admirably. I even dropped some locals a few times. I got comfortable enough on the bike to try this little jump, and somewhat surprisingly, it was smooth as butter. It seemed that the Walmart bike was performing as advertised. But then I started dicking around. On my mountain bike I can bunny hop on to the benches of picnic tables quite easily, but what about on the Mongoose? Success. Yes, it felt heavy, but I did this bunny hop first shot. On the way back to the car, I messed around on these skinnies, and ended up slipping off. That brought the bike to its knees. The rear wheel got knocked off to the side, which is weird because I remember tightening it real good. We went back to the car and got it back into place with my pedal wrench. I haven’t carried a proper 15 mil with me since my BMX days. After a closer check, I noticed the headset was loose, along with the hubs in the wheels. I tightened them all up and they seem to be holding now. I asked Emily what she thought of the bike, and not surprisingly she wanted to go out mountain biking on it again. Seeing how it held up just fine for her on the novice trails, I can’t blame her. So, we can say for sure that a properly assembled Mongoose Ledge is sufficient for a beginner to take on novice trails. Anything more than that, and it may need some extra maintenance. It’s also worth mentioning that we didn’t crash today. A good mountain bike will hold up in most crashes, but we have yet to see how the Mongoose holds up with repeated abuse. There’s always tomorrow. In the next video, we’ll ride some street on the Mongoose and see how it holds up. If it gets destroyed, I might actually be a tiny bit sad, but it’s all in the name of science. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. If you have a department store bike, and need some ideas on keeping it maintained, here's the best resource you could possibly use: http://bigboxbikes.com This is the actual bike used: http://www.sethsbikehacks.com/product/mongoose-ledge/
