Invented in 1913, the Farador was one of many so-called "Gas Pipe Cures" introduced in the early 20th century: quack medical devices that claimed to infuse the human body with additional oxygen in order to boost its natural healing abilities. Though thoroughly debunked even in their heyday, they sold well until the late 1920s. Haley Van Erem, a former career attorney in the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, has filed a complaint claiming the Trump administration task force charged with investigating antisemitism pushed universities into massive settlements despite turning up little to no evidence of anti-Jewish discrimination on campus. Van Erem said that the government's probes into schools like Harvard, Brown and Columbia were "an unlawful process designed to achieve predetermined political goals." "Columbia affiliates, from the Board of Trustees down, have actually collaborated with the federal government in these sham investigations," says Marianna Hirsch, professor emerita at Columbia University. "These were not probes into antisemitism accusations, but they were efforts to dismantle higher education brick by brick."

Deep in Rutland sits Oakham Castle, home to the best-preserved 12th-century Norman Great Hall in Britain. Built by Lord Walkelin de Ferrers—a close ally of King Richard the Lionheart—the site hides centuries of royal intrigue, from Norman knights to Anglo-Saxon Queen Edith. In this documentary, archaeologists take on a three-day race against time to excavate the castle grounds. Uncovering medieval kitchens, high-status roof tiles, and mysterious defense structures, the team reveals unexpected evidence that this grand Norman fortress was constructed directly over an ancient Anglo-Saxon royal stronghold. Is roken opnieuw hip? In this conversation with Hans Busstra, Stafford reflects on his remarkable transition from a successful academic career in psychiatry to guiding wilderness-based practices aimed at what he calls an “eco-awakening”: a shift from an ego-centric to an eco-centric mode of consciousness. Drawing on the work of Plotkin, Carl Jung, and his own clinical and personal experience as a wilderness guide, Stafford argues that many forms of psychological suffering are rooted in a deeper ecological disconnection. Rather than viewing the psyche primarily through the lens of pathology and symptom reduction, he proposes that psychiatry should recover a richer understanding of the psyche as a living reality embedded within both nature and the symbolic life of dreams, imagination, and meaning. Israel's military on Wednesday admitted that its soldiers opened fire in January 2024 on a car trying to flee Gaza City following Israel's evacuation orders. The car was carrying 5-year-old Palestinian Hind Rajab and six of her relatives. They were all killed, as were two Palestine Red Crescent Society medics dispatched to rescue them. The Israeli military said it would also investigate the killing of 15 Palestinian paramedics whose bodies and crushed emergency vehicles were recovered from a mass grave in Rafah in March 2025. "This seems to be nothing more than political theater," says Sharif Abdel Kouddous, the Middle East and North Africa editor at Drop Site News. “These are just two of the most high-profile incidents out of countless war crimes in Gaza.”
