This is another fivesploration, (exploration of 5/4....yeah...) as well as a means of messing with some of my pedals (ring mod! yay!). I think this is the debut of my P on this channel...woohoo? It's the best Mexican Fender I've ever played, and it's my go-to "working mans" bass right now. It's also strung with super heavy strings, which gets it a nice and fat sound. 2010 MIM Fender P, EHX Bass Big Muff, EHX Frequency Analyzer Ring Mod, Boss OC-2 direct in to Garage Band 2007.

Bill opens up a computer hard drive to show how it is engineered. He describes how the "head" reads the magnetic information on the disk; reveals how a voice coil motor and a slider controls the position of that head. He also discusses how smooth a disk must be, and briefly mentions a mathematical technique that allows engineers to pack more information on a drive.
Bill uses a pile of old cell phones to show the seven basic design constraints that shape a mobile phone. Here is a lesson covering a lot of the technical and conceptual concepts with practicing arpeggios across the bass' fingerboard. Pay close attention to the ideas regarding shifting across the fingerboard - this is something that is almost completely neglected in the majority of method resources for electric bass, and is something that is very important to practice. Arpeggios are the best musical element to practice this physical concept.

Solo free improvisation for bass guitar in any real sense beyond random wankery is almost non-existent, and it's something that I've been checking out recently. "Free improvisation" is definitely not the same as free jazz, and it doesn't me playing "out" versus "in." It simply means creating a logical and well-constructed piece of music with little to no given structure. For examples of great solo instrumental free improvisation, check out Keith Jarrett's the Koln concert, or Dave Liebman's The Tree. Skip to about 4 minutes in if you want to check out the free improv without the chatter.
Some really good songs you should learn on guitar. Check out my cover of "River Flows In You" here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAHYdmKirUo 1.Behind blue eyes 2. Sweet home Alabama 3. Save tonight 4. Smells like teen spirit 5. Good riddance
