Many of the concepts you live by today have Babylonian ancestry. Hours being split into 60 minutes, minutes being split into 60 seconds – that’s Babylonian. Zodiac signs and predicting the future – also Babylonian. Take a wander through some of the British Museum’s Babylonian collection with curator Irving Finkel and discover how much of what you’ve done today could have just as easily been done thousands of years ago. A lesson on developing on safe and comfortable right hand technique for bass guitar. This is a follow up to my video looking at left hand technique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRkSsapYYsA My own problems with RS injury lead me to develop my concept of "neutral position," which I teach to my student in hopes that they don't have the same problems I did. Here are the basic ideas of the neutral position as it relates to the right hand that I covered in the video. 1. The shoulder holds up the arm 2. The elbow is above the bass (don't drop it behind the bass) 3. The forearm can rest against the bass for shoulder support. 4. The fingers of the right hand are curved and relaxed 5. The wrist is straight and relaxed. 6. The thumb is to the left of the first finger, and should only pivot side to side, not in front of the bass (this causes a bent, tense wrist)
Brazilian music is ridiculously fun to play, and even more fun to ruin with pretentious jazz stuff. Bass tune EADGC, recorded and sequenced in Garage Band and Reason. Written, arranged, sequenced, performed and edited by yours truly. Inspiration by Nabisco.
Fun with synthetic polymodality, modal voicings, 7/4 grooves, octave pedals, synthemasizers, non-tonal clusters, constant structures, teen town rip-offs, and coffee. Sweet, sweet coffee. Bass tuned EADGC, recorded in Garage Band '07.

An improvisation over "In Bb," the minimalist, collaborative composition project that can be found here.... http://www.inbflat.net/ I triggered the video samples in real time, and then noodled on the bass behind them. This is an innovative project that expands the minimalist/pulsative concept into interactivity of the internet for something refreshing and new. I just thought I'd wank all over it for some fun.
"I've never been to Topeka, but I have reason to believe it sounds like this." From the album "Don't Panic" - listen and buy here: http://www.jongomm.com/ (Also available on iTunes and from Candyrat.com and GuitarCDs.net) With this tune I was trying to capture that feeling of nostalgia you can sometimes get for a place or time you've never actually experienced, only imagined. In this case I was going for 1950's smalltown America. I decided to name it after Topeka (pronounced "Tuh-PEE-kuh"), Kansas, which ain't exactly small, but it is the hometown of my buddy Andy McKee, the loveliest, most down-to-earth solo guitar player on the circuit. The tuning is Ab, Eb, C, F, G, Bb. Like an Ab major 13 chord. And the top two strings both get retuned during the intro and outro - the G goes to an A and the Bb to a C. If you want to try this tune at home, I'd recommend tuning up a tone from where I am, cos I use super-heavy strings - try it at Bb, F, D, G, A, C. Here's all the awesome gear I use to create music.
