Chauffeurs, conducteurs en andere ov-medewerkers leggen morgen het werk neer. Ze maken zich zorgen over de gevolgen van de bezuinigingen op de sociale zekerheid, met name voor werknemers met een zwaar beroep. Als gevolg rijden er geen bussen, trams, metro's en treinen. Ook varen de ponten niet. Buschauffeur Ivar Raben vindt het naar eigen zeggen moeilijk dat hij reizigers morgen in de problemen brengt. Toch vindt hij dat staken noodzakelijk is. “Ik baal er echt van, dit is een noodgreep”, vertelt hij. Gevolgen nieuwe regels De medewerkers maken zich onder meer zorgen over de gevolgen van de nieuwe regels wanneer zij werkloos of arbeidsongeschikt raken. FNV-bestuurder Eric Vermeulen vertelt: "Wie zijn baan verliest, zou langer moeten werken om in aanmerking te komen voor een uitkering. Daarnaast wordt de maximale duur van de WW-uitkering verkort." Ook arbeidsongeschiktheid is een belangrijk punt. Volgens Vermeulen lopen mensen met een zwaar beroep een groter risico om uit te vallen en kunnen zij dan financieel flink worden geraakt.: "Als mensen arbeidsongeschikt raken, met een zwaar beroep is dat een grotere kans dan gemiddeld, dan worden ze onwijs gekort op hun uitkering." Raben maakt zich hier ook zorgen over: “Ik zie om mij heen oudere collega’s massaal wegvallen.” Waarom wordt er gestaakt? Vakbond FNV kondigde de staking eind juli aan vanwege de bezuinigingen op de sociale zekerheid. Uit uitgelekte Prinsjesdagstukken bleek vorige week dat het kabinet een deel van die bezuinigingen terugdraait. Toch gaan de acties door; volgens de vakbonden gaat het vooral om uitstel. Ze willen dat de bezuinigingen helemaal van tafel gaan. Morgen is Raben zelf in Garage Noord te vinden om de stakers te registreren. FNV-leden kunnen daardoor een deel van hun loon ontvangen, ondanks dat ze staken. En volgens FNV-bestuurder Eric Vermeulen is de inzet duidelijk: “Het is niet eens zozeer wat we hopen te bereiken. Het is wat we móéten bereiken. Punt.” Waar moeten Amsterdammers op letten? Hoe zorg je ervoor dat je morgen zo min mogelijk last hebt van de staking? Veel werkgevers bieden werknemers de optie aan om thuis te werken. Toch is dat niet voor iedereen een optie. Daarom biedt International Workplace Group (IWG) op alle locaties in Amsterdam gratis flexplekken aan. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld terecht in kantoorruimtes van Regus aan de Herengracht. Moet je naar Schiphol? Dan kan je wél met de trein. De Airportsprinter tussen CS, Schiphol en Hoofddorp rijdt vier keer per uur. De ANWB laat op basis van eerdere stakingen weten geen extreme drukte te verwachten op de weg. De auto is dus een optie. Voor de deur van Paradiso stonden vanmiddag urenlang tientallen fans van Ronnie Wood te wachten. De gitarist van The Rolling Stones trad daar gisteravond al op en geeft vanavond een tweede concert. Sommige fans van de gitarist waren van ver gekomen. "We zijn vanuit Ottawa in Canada naar Amsterdam gevlogen", vertelde een van hen. "Het wordt legendarisch." Er stonden ook Duitsers, Belgen en Oostenrijkers in de rij. Er werd gewerkt met een nummer-systeem. Wie het eerst kwam, kreeg nummer 1 op zijn hand geschreven en de teller stond rond 13.45 uur op 47. Droog onder afdakje Een Rotterdammer had de show van gisteren al gezien en ging vandaag opnieuw. Hij besloot om in de ochtend al te komen. "We hadden een hotel voor een nacht geboekt en we moesten er vanochtend uit. En we konden wel naar een museum gaan, maar we dachten, we gaan alvast hier staan. Dan kunnen we ook nog een beetje droog staan onder het afdakje." Kaartjes kostten ruim 200 euro. The narrator Sgt. Bruce of the LAPD cautions against that “deadly mixture of alcohol and gasoline” and that such a mixture can lead to death. We see a busy intersection at mark 01:25, where “male and female” drivers, some good and some bad, make their way down the street. Some drivers are described as being “too cautious” (mark 01:45) such as the man creeping along because he’s had too much to drink — only to catch a patrolman’s attention. A sergeant explains at mark 02:35 how one in every six accidents involve a drunken driver as he looks at photos with smashed autos, adding that many drunk drivers are “average normal people who used an intoxicant in moderation and considered themselves perfectly capable of driving a car or walking in front of a car.” At mark 03:10 we watch a simulation of a “drunk” motorist behind the wheel with slowed reflexes, as well as vision and hearing. When drunk driving is suspected, police conduct “careful scientific tests” (mark 04:00) to prove a driver is incapable of driving because of alcohol or some other substance or ailment. The officer also notes that a drunk driver is 55-times more likely to have an accident than a sober driver. Each driver must hold an individual responsibility not to drink and drive, the officer says at mark 05:35, and access their own ability to drive.5:43: The film cautions against denying the effects of alcohol on driving.6:04: The film concludes with a clear message: "If you drive, don't drink. Hoe kom je als Noorderling naar de stad wanneer al het openbaar vervoer in staking is? We nemen de proef op de som. Het startpunt is het Noorderparkbad en het eindpunt de Stopera. Ga je normaal gesproken op de fiets van Noord naar de stad, dan ben je vanaf het Noorderparkbad in 10 minuten bij de pont, en duurt het in totaal zo'n 20 minuten om het gemeentehuis te bereiken. Uitgesloten morgen, want ook de pont ligt stil.Als je de fiets pakt is de enige optie om via de Schellingwoudebrug te gaan. Daar zal het drukker zijn dan normaal, want alleen via deze brug kun je als fietser van Noord naar de stad komen. Door deze extra lus die je aan je route toevoegt, is de totale reistijd van het Noorderparkbad naar de Stopera bijna 45 minuten. De snelste optie, op papier althans, is met de auto. Je zou in 10 minuten, via de IJ-tunnel, op bestemming moeten kunnen zijn. Het maken van meldingen, inspreken bij de lokale politiek of proberen zelf de verslaafden te verjagen: het leidt volgens de buurtbewoners vooralsnog niet tot resultaat. En dat terwijl de bedreigingen, het afval en het onveilige gevoel blijft. Het is voor buurtbewoner Debbie een lastige vraag wat het gevoel is in de wijk, want waar moet ze beginnen? In de openbare ruimte dan maar. Ze wijst op kapotte wijnflessen, drugsafval en hopen rotzooi rondom de vuilcontainers. Al is de overlast van verslaafden en daklozen in haar flatgebouw iets dat haar echt grote zorgen baart. "Iemand die zijn bolletje in de lift is verloren en dan gewoon vraagt: 'Ja, ik ben mijn bolletje verloren, kan je helpen zoeken?' Je komt met je kind in die lift, dat is niet normaal." Trappenhuis Het is een voorbeeld van de problematiek waar buurtbewoners mee te maken hebben. Al 43 jaar woont Ricardo in de H-buurt. Zo erg als de overlast van verslaafden en daklozen nu is, zag hij het niet eerder. "Ze komen hiernaartoe en slapen in het trappenhuis, gebruiken drugs", beschrijft hij. "Ouders brengen hun kind naar school en moeten 's ochtends door het trappenhuis naar beneden en dan moeten ze dus over een dakloze heenstappen." Bedreiging Maar ook het gedrag van de verslaafden baart de buurtbewoners zorgen. Bedreigingen, zowel verbaal als met wapens, is meerdere van hen overkomen. Ze vertellen verhalen dat kinderen niet meer buiten durven te spelen. Daarnaast werd één van hen een tijdlang gestalkt door een verslaafde, inmiddels zit deze man vast. In de verschillende flats, zoals Hofgeest, Haag en Veld en Huigenbos is het een ingewikkelde strijd tegen het drugsgebruik van verslaafden en daklozen. Met name in de avond neemt de overlast toe. Voor veel buurtbewoners is de oorzaak ervan duidelijk: de inloophuizen aan de rand van de wijk zorgen voor een aanzuigende werking. Hier kunnen verslaafden overdag veilig en binnen drugs gebruiken. "Op het moment dat gebruikersruimtes dichtgaan, dan trekt alles de wijk in" Miriam - buurtbewoner H-buurt Eén van die locaties is aan de Flierbosdreef, op een steenworp afstand van de verschillende flatgebouwen. Miriam, die al meer dan twintig jaar in de wijk woont, ziet dat de overlast samenhangt met de gebruikersruimtes. "Wat ik zie, is dat op het moment dat die ruimtes open zijn, de overlast in de buurt zelf rustig is. Op het moment dat ze dichtgaan, dan trekt alles de wijk in. En vervolgens verschaffen zij zich toegang tot kelderboxen en trappenhuizen om te gaan gebruiken." Opengebroken bergingen Een rondje langs de bergingen van Hofgeest laat weinig aan de verbeelding over. Het ruikt in de gangen naar urine, er staat een tafeltje met stoelen, maar de problemen zijn groter. "Inmiddels zijn er dus één, twee, drie, vier boxen opengebroken", telt Debbie. "En die waren vorige week nog niet opengebroken." In de ruimtes liggen kleren, maar ook een matras met daaromheen flessen water en sigarettenpeuken. Het gevoel van onveiligheid is al langere tijd groeiende, vertelt Juliana, die een kinderwagen met haar twee kleinkinderen voortduwt. "Ik woon hier al zoveel jaar", geeft ze aan. "Ik hou van de Amsterdamse Poort en van Haag en Veld. Al mijn buren zijn goed, maar nu maken vreemden de buurt erg onveilig. Ik ben bang om naar buiten te gaan vanaf 18.00 uur." Overlast melden, dat is een vaak gehoord advies zeggen buurtbewoners. Of het melden helpt? Ze vragen het zich af, want zichtbare verbetering van de situatie laat vooralsnog op zich wachten, vertellen ze. "Ik spreek veel buurtbewoners en buren", aldus Ricardo. "Het eerste wat ze zeggen is; we lopen te melden, melden, melden. Maar dat schiet niet echt op." Overlastmeldingen De politie kreeg uit deze buurt tussen juni en september dit jaar 16 meldingen van drugsoverlast, een jaar eerder was dit aantal 8. How do experts assess what happened in Greenland over many decades?

The two recent expert reports conclude that the forced contraception practices in Greenland constituted serious human rights violations. However, they have so far found no proven evidence of g*nocide. To meet the legal definition of g*nocide, it would have to be demonstrated that the measures were carried out with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the people of Greenland as a distinct group. Experts also point out that a comprehensive assessment would need to take into account other allegations against Denmark, such as the forced separation of Greenlandic children from their families and their placement in Denmark. This assessment is based on the United Nations G€nocide Convention, one of the oldest international human rights treaties. Under this convention, “measures intended to prevent births” within a particular ethnic group are prohibited. In 2024, 143 affected Greenlandic women filed a lawsuit against the Danish state for violating their human rights. They also sought compensation of 300,000 Danish kroner per person, which is equivalent to approximately €40,000.
