Hoewel Amsterdam natuurlijk veel Oranjefans telt, zijn er ook behoorlijk wat Amsterdammers die ook juichen voor een ander land tijdens het WK. Omdat het WK groter is dan anders doen er veel landen mee die nog nooit, of niet vaak, op zo’n groot toernooi hebben gespeeld. Vandaag spreken we Mike Sjenks, misschien beter bekend als oud-basketballer en DJ Mr. Sjenks. Vanavond juicht hij heel hard voor Curaçao. Mike woont in het centrum en heeft Curaçaose roots. In Amsterdam wonen zo’n 9500 mensen met een Curaçaose achtergrond. In de hoek van de ietwat krappe bruine kroeg zit Mike achter zijn draaitafel. Vanavond organiseert hij samen met vrienden van de Curaçaose community een spontaan draaiavondje. "We komen graag samen als het kan, Overal waar je komt, hoor je wel een beetje Papiamento." Een DJ bedient de mengtafel tijdens een evenement binnen, terwijl er in de buurt verschillende mensen staan en zitten, waarvan sommigen met elkaar praten. Felle lampen verlichten de ruimte en in de linkeronderhoek is een logo met de letter A te zien. Ondanks de tropische beats is de inrichting zoals die van een echte Amsterdamse kroeg. André Hazes en bitterballen hadden dit café ook niet misstaan. Toch voelt het nadat de tijd vordert en de temperatuur door de aanwezige mensen stijgt steeds meer alsof je aan de andere kant van de wereld op een wit strand met een cocktail in je hand staat te dansen. Op de muziek swing je zo mee naar een cultuur vol dans, trots en een hele chille vibe. “It’s the blue wave baby”, zegt MC Theo. The Blue Wave is ook de bijnaam van het Curaçaose elftal. Ondanks het grote verlies tegen Duitsland (7-1) heeft de ploeg - door de 0-0 tegen Ecuador nog een kans om door te gaan, maar dan moeten ze vanavond wel winnen van Ivoorkust en dan mag Duitsland niet verliezen van Ecuador. En dat is iets wat niet meteen werd verwacht. “Maar alles wat wij winnen is mooi meegenomen”. De wedstrijd van Curaçao tegen Ivoorkust zal vanavond beginnen om 22:00 uur. De bus- en tramhaltes in de stad zijn er qua toegankelijkheid veel slechter aan toe dan de gemeente beweert. Dat stelt de Rekenkamer in een onderzoek. Waar de gemeente rapporteert dat eenenveertig procent op orde is, schetst de Rekenkamer na een steekproef een heel ander beeld. Ruim twee derde van de haltes die ze onderzochten, voldoet niet aan de eisen. De gemeente heeft al langere tijd plannen om de toegankelijkheid tram- en bushaltes te verbeteren. Sterker nog, in 2030, over vier jaar, moet het Amsterdamse ov volledig toegankelijk zijn voor iedereen. Maar uit het onderzoek van de rekenkamer blijkt dat de lijst met plekken die de gemeente heeft aangevinkt als onvoldoende, niet uitgebreid genoeg is. Er zijn namelijk veel bus- en tramhaltes die op het eerste gezicht goed toegankelijk lijken, maar dat in de praktijk helemaal niet zijn, vindt de Rekenkamer. "De gemeente zegt dat 41 procent van de bus- en tramhaltes toegankelijk voor iedereen is. Maar als wij in de praktijk gaan kijken, blijkt dat echt tegen te vallen. En bij veel haltes waar wij zijn gaan kijken, zijn er eisen waar niet aan wordt voldaan", zegt Jurriaan Kooij, die meeschreef aan het rapport over de ontoegankelijkheid van de tram- en bushaltes in de stad. Honderd haltes Van de onderzochte haltes bleek zo'n twee derde niet aan alle eisen voor visuele toegankelijkheid en de helft niet aan alle eisen voor fysieke toegankelijkheid te voldoen. De problemen die de Rekenkamer het meest tegenkwam, waren het ontbreken van blindengeleidelijnen en zebrapaden. "Maar soms staan er ook gewoon objecten midden op de halte, waardoor het erg moeilijk wordt voor Amsterdammers met een fysieke of een visuele beperking", aldus Kooij. Te weinig Hans van den Berg, zelf visueel gehandicapt, is het eens met de conclusie van de Rekenkamer. "Af en toe wordt er wel wat gedaan, maar er is vaak geen tijd en geld voor", zegt hij bij zijn vaste bushalte waar geen blindengeleidelijn aanwezig is. Zijn conclusie is dat de gemeente zich te weinig inzet voor de toegankelijkheid van tram- en bushaltes. "Ik ken mensen die nu niet meer buiten komen, omdat ze bang zijn dat ze de weg niet vinden." De gemeente laat weten dat ze samenwerken met de vervoerregio om de haltes te verbeteren. "Iedereen wil natuurlijk dat dit morgen is opgelost, maar het is een ingewikkelde en tijdrovende klus om alle haltes aan te pakken.
