Een minderjarige jongen is schuldig aan het doden van de 17-jarige Rivaldo uit Zuidoost. Zo oordeelt de rechter vandaag. Hij krijgt twee jaar jeugddetentie en jeugd-tbs opgelegd. Dat is de hoogst mogelijke straf in het jeugdstrafrecht. De 17-jarige Rivaldo uit Zuidoost werd augustus vorig jaar neergeschoten op een voetbalveldje aan de Meernhof in Holendrecht. Volgens de rechter was een kettingroof de aanleiding van het dodelijke schietincident. Uit het dossier blijkt dat er één schot werd gelost. Rivaldo overlijdt een aantal uur later op de operatietafel. Vanwege de leeftijd van de verdachte - destijds was hij zestien jaar - waren de rechtszaken achter gesloten deuren. Zelf heeft hij de daad altijd ontkend. Maar volgens de rechter is bewezen dat hij Rivaldo heeft doodgeschoten. Een volle publieke tribune luisterde vandaag naar de uitspraken van de rechter. "Uit hetgeen de rechtbank heeft meegekregen was Rivaldo een vrolijke sportieve jongen die iets moois wilde maken van zijn leven. Mensen kwamen naar hem voor advies. Dat bleek ook op deze avond: hij kwam op voor een vriend. Je hebt zijn leven afgenomen. En waarom? Zijn vader en zijn moeder zullen hem nooit meer zien en knuffelen. Zijn zussen en broers zullen nooit meer grapjes met hem kunnen maken. Ze zullen hem nooit meer kunnen zien en dat is het ergste dat je hen hebt kunnen aandoen. De rechtbank neemt het je zeer kwalijk", aldus de rechter. Ook benadrukt de rechter dat het voor de buurt een ingrijpende gebeurtenis is geweest. "Voor de wijk is het verschrikkelijk geweest. Dat een jongen wordt doodgeschoten bij een voetbalveldje waar kinderen spelen. Dat zorgt voor een gevoel van onveiligheid in de wijk", aldus de rechter. Ook neemt de rechtbank het de jongen kwalijk dat hij op geen enkele wijze openheid van zaken heeft willen geven. "Hierdoor en door de heersende zwijgcultuur in de wijk blijven de nabestaanden met onbeantwoorde vragen achter. De rechtbank vindt het een verdrietige constatering dat er mensen bij het schietincident aanwezig waren die méér weten, maar niet hebben willen verklaren bij de politie." De dood van Rivaldo maakte destijds veel los in de buurt. Er werden veel bloemen neergelegd op de plek van het overlijden. Tijdens een buurtbijeenkomst in Holendrecht kwamen mensen samen om te rouwen en hun steun te betuigen aan de familie. Na het schietincident bleef het onrustig onder verschillende groepen jongeren in Zuidoost. Burgemeester Halsema besloot daarop om een aantal buurten tot veiligheidsrisicogebied te bestempelen. De explosie in Osdorp is inmiddels bijna een week geleden, maar de impact op de buurt is nog altijd groot. De 400 bewoners van de flat die geëvacueerd moest worden, waren uitgenodigd voor een informatieavond in theater De Meervaart. Daar waren burgemeester Halsema, politie, brandweer, veiligheidsregio en woningcorporaties aanwezig om met ze in gesprek te gaan. Na afloop spraken we met een aantal gedupeerden die bij de bewonersavond waren. Ze laten weten dat vooral de veiligheid in de buurt centraal stond. Ook werd gesproken over de inzet van politie en de gevoelens van onveiligheid die bij veel bewoners leven sinds de explosie. "We hebben het heel veel over de politie gehad en over de veiligheid in Amsterdam. Burgemeester Halsema heeft ook gezegd dat ze te weinig politiemacht en te weinig mensen hebben. Ze kunnen er eigenlijk niet veel aan doen", vertelt een bewoner na afloop. Het drama, dat waarschijnlijk verband houdt met mannen die in de kelderbox plofkraken aan het voorbereiden waren met zeer explosief materiaal, heeft diepe indruk gemaakt op de buurt. Door de knal werd de sportschool boven de boxen verwoest. Bij de 180 flatwoningen ernaast was ook behoorlijke schade, zoals kapotte ruiten en ontzette deuren. Verschillende bewoners geven aan dat ze zich nog altijd afvragen of het veilig is om terug te keren naar hun woning. "Je wilt garanties. Is het echt veilig nu?", zegt een bewoner. "Ik weet het niet precies. Ik durf het niet te zeggen." De bijeenkomst moest bewoners de gelegenheid bieden om hun zorgen rechtstreeks te delen met de gemeente en hulpdiensten. Burgemeester Halsema laat weten dat bewoners, slachtoffers en andere betrokkenen tijdens de bijeenkomst hun zorgen, boosheid en ervaringen hebben gedeeld. Volgens de burgemeester is er veel angst in de buurt na de explosie, maar sprak men ook waardering uit voor de inzet van de hulpdiensten. In ‘De Spots van…’ neemt de geboren en getogen acteur en zanger Bilal Wahib FC Centrum mee langs zijn favoriete plekken down memory lane.🚶‍♂️✨ We trappen af bij JWO Lekkernijen, waar Bilal al sinds zijn basisschooltijd komt. Als hij wat geld van zijn moeder had gekregen, wist hij precies waar het naartoe ging: een broodje onderweg naar school. Tegenwoordig komt hij er nog regelmatig, voor zijn favoriete broodje tonijn of om lekkers mee te nemen voor zijn schoonouders. 🥪 Dan gaan we door naar zijn oude basisschool, de Burght, midden op de grachten. Een plek waar herinneringen meteen boven komen drijven. En alsof de tijd heeft stilgestaan, komt Bilal een paar bekenden tegen. Zij doen een klein boekje open over hoe hij vroeger in de klas was... 😉 Eén ding is zeker: Bilal is hier niet vergeten. Sterker nog, hij is zelfs nog steeds te zien. Na schooltijd verplaatsen we naar Speeltuin De Piramide. Een plek die misschien onschuldig klinkt, maar waar volgens Bilal heel wat gebeurde. Van voetballen met jongens die later grote namen werden, zoals Noa Lang en Justin Kluivert, tot de eerste vlinders en spannende momenten van de jeugd. ⚽❤️ Uiteraard waagt Bilal zelf ook nog een poging op het veld. We sluiten af bij Paradiso. Een plek die niet alleen iconisch is voor onze stad, maar ook voor Bilal persoonlijk. Hier bereikte hij een belangrijke mijlpaal in zijn carrière toen hij er nog recent mocht optreden. Landing on Venus is a nightmare and not just for the obvious reasons. Venus has no magnetic field, pressure nearly 93x that of Earth, and temperatures that can soar over 450 degrees celsius (that’s hot enough to melt lead!). In the 1950’s, Soviet scientists started plans to do what seemed impossible: send a lander to the surface and take photos. Door de explosie in Osdorp is de sportschool van Selcuk volledig verwoest. En vandaag, vijf dagen later, kan hij het eindelijk nog steeds niet geloven. "Het is alsof ik naar een ander gebouw kijk." Selcuk was net thuis van een wedstrijdje padel, toen hij gebeld werd door een lid van zijn sportschool die tegenover het gebouw woont. Waarom belt hij mij zo laat, dacht hij. Wat bleek? Door een enorme explosie stond zijn opgeblazen sportschool in Osdorp in brand. Na vier dagen heeft Selcuk nog moeite om zich te realiseren wat er precies gebeurd is. "Ik kan het nog niet beseffen", zegt hij. Rond 00.15 uur ging het helemaal mis op de Remijden in Osdorp. Onder de sportschool, waar opslagboxen zijn, maakte een groep jongens naar alle waarschijnlijkheid explosieven voor plofkraken. Vandaag werd duidelijk dat het OM twee Amsterdammers van 23 en 24 jaar verdenkt van betrokkenheid. Meerdere explosieven gingen tijdens dat proces af, en dat had enorme gevolgen. Het gebouw erboven stortte in, zeven mensen raakten gewond en 400 omwonenden werden geëvacueerd. Twee zwaargewonden zijn in het ziekenhuis aangehouden, zij waren bezig in de box. Onderweg naar de sportschool bekeek Selcuk snel de beveiligingsbeelden op zijn telefoon. In de ruimte zag hij drie jongens: één bij de dumbbells, iemand op een machine en een ander dronk net wat water."Eerlijk gezegd had ik niet gedacht dat ze het hadden overleefd," zegt Selcuk. Het blijkt mee te vallen. Een van de jongens krijgt een machine op zijn voet, de andere twee halen hem in het donker uit de sportschool. "Ik voel me schuldig", zegt Selcuk. "Ook al kan ik er niks aan doen." Of Selcuk ooit nog kan terugkeren naar zijn sportschool, is zeer onzeker. Het huurcontract van het pand is inmiddels opgezegd en de kans lijkt klein dat de sportschool op deze locatie kan worden heropend. "Het is een hele verdrietige situatie." Op de vraag wat de toekomst brengt, heeft de eigenaar voorlopig geen antwoord."Wat nu? Ik weet het eigenlijk even niet." Tijdens een commissievergadering in de Stopera vroeg Denk-raadslid Sheher Khan om hulp voor de sportschooleigenaar. It’s not just because Americans wanted more space, systems underground required it. After World War II, developers began building suburbs at a scale and speed the country had never seen before. But instead of connecting every new house to municipal sewer systems, many developments relied on rural technologies: private wells, septic tanks, and drain fields. In this video, I look at how septic systems influenced the physical layout of American suburbia, from Levittown to FHA mortgage standards, and why the rules meant to keep drinking water separate from sewage helped produce the half-acre lot as a suburban ideal. I also look at what went wrong: collapsed drain pipes, overloaded systems, contaminated aquifers, expensive sewer retrofits, and even neighborhoods where septic saturation helped destabilize the ground itself.
