Can We Ever Know Reality as It Really Is? Kant, Plato, Nietzsche & The Thing in Itself Have you ever looked at a red apple and wondered whether it is really red — or whether “redness” is something your brain adds to reality? In this episode, we explore one of the deepest questions in philosophy: can human beings ever know reality as it is in itself, or do we only ever experience reality through the filters of perception, language, biology, and thought? We begin with Plato’s world of perfect Forms, move through Aristotle’s form-and-matter theory, and then arrive at Kant’s revolutionary idea that space, time, and causality may be structures imposed by the human mind. From there, we examine Schopenhauer’s dark theory of the Will, Hegel’s unfolding process of reality, Nietzsche’s attack on hidden essences, Nagarjuna’s Buddhist philosophy of emptiness, Heidegger’s idea of truth as unconcealment, and Graham Harman’s Object-Oriented Ontology. Growing up, Julian Brave NoiseCat’s father, Ed Archie NoiseCat, wasn’t around much. Other than the occasional ride to hockey practice from his dad, Julian mostly remembers the legends about him. Ed is an artist, famous for his wood carvings and larger-than-life stories. Julian remembers seeing him on the cover of Native Peoples magazine and hearing about his escapades driving across the country. What Julian could never understand, however, was why his dad couldn’t just be his dad, and be there consistently. For years, Julian didn’t have much contact with his father, but when he was 28, he decided to change that. Both projects deeply involved his father and their family’s history. So Julian moved into his dad’s house. President Donald Trump's name has been removed from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., after a judge ruled its addition was illegal. The Kennedy Center's board, which was handpicked by Trump, voted to add his name to the center late last year. "This is just the first step in rebuilding the trust that has been lost," says Mallory Miller, who was fired from her job as assistant manager of dance programming at the Kennedy Center in August 2025. She is the co-founder of Hands Off the Arts, a group that has been rallying outside the Kennedy Center every week.

Het stadsdeelbestuur van Oost verplaatst de gebruikersbus toch niet naar de Linnaeusstraat. De bus staat nu op het pleintje voor het OLVG, maar eerder deze maand werd bekend dat de bus naar de andere kant van het park verplaatst zou worden. Volgens de gemeente is er in de besluitvorming te weinig rekening gehouden met de kwetsbaarheid van de Dapperbuurt. Daarom is besloten om op zoek te gaan naar een nieuwe locatie voor de bus. De verplaatsing van de bus naar de Linnaeusstraat stond eigenlijk gepland voor 29 juni. Stadsdeelvoorzitter De Heer gaf eerder deze maand aan dat er geen overleg had plaatsgevonden tussen de gemeente en bewoners, tot ongenoegen van veel mensen uit de buurt. Kwetsbaarheid van Dapperbuurt "Als ik het ga vragen aan mensen dan zeggen ze altijd nee", zei stadsdeelvoorzitter Carolien de Heer eerder tegen AT5. "Niemand wil het in zijn voor- of achtertuin." Vanuit de buurt werd er een petitie gestart tegen de komst van de bus. "Dit is een mes in de rug", liet een hotelmanager eerder deze maand weten nadat bekend was geworden dat de bus naar het deel van het Oosterpark bij zijn hotel zou komen. Vooral het feit dat er niet is gecommuniceerd zit hem dwars. "Dit schaadt het vertrouwen in de gemeente." De gemeente kwam na gesprekken met bewoners en ondernemers toch tot de conclusie dat er bij het besluit over de verplaatsing van de gebruikersbus te weinig rekening is gehouden met de kwetsbaarheid van de Dapperbuurt. "Deze buurt heeft al lange tijd te maken met de invloed van mensen met een verslaving of onbegrepen gedrag", schrijft het stadsdeel. Waar de bus nu komt te staan, is niet bekend.
