De extreemrechtse partij AfD heeft de deelstaatverkiezingen in de Duitse deelstaat Saksen-Anhalt gewonnen. De partij haalde 43,8 procent van de stemmen, een ongezien hoog cijfer. "Ontevredenheid, in die vijf lettergrepen kan je het succes verklaren", zegt VRT NWS-journalist Jeroen Reygaert. De coalitievorming belooft uiterst moeilijk te worden. De extreemrechtse partij AfD heeft de deelstaatverkiezingen in Saksen-Anhalt met 43,8 procent van de stemmen gewonnen Algemene ontevredenheid en het gevoel van achterstelling tegenover West-Duitsland verklaren de AfD-winst Een regering vormen wordt moeilijk: geen partij wil samenwerken met de AfD. Dat blijkt uit de eindresultaten. De AfD haalde 43,8 procent van de stemmen. Dat is meer dan een verdubbeling ten opzichte van de vorige deelstaatverkiezingen in Saksen-Anhalt in 2021. Toen haalde de partij nog 20,8 procent. De christendemocraten van de CDU, de partij van bondskanselier Friedrich Merz, volgen op zeer grote afstand, met 17,2 procent. In 2021 haalde de CDU nog 37,1 procent. De sociaaldemocraten van de SPD werden derde met 9,3 procent, een lichte verbetering in vergelijking met de vorige deelstaatverkiezingen. Ook Bündnis 90/Die Grünenn wist de score iets te verbeteren en haalde 8,9 procent. De linkse partij Die Linke haalt met 8,6 procent een historisch slecht resultaat, maar kan toch nog in het deelstaatparlement blijven. De populistische BSW haalde met 5,3 procent de kiesdrempel en heeft dus ook zitjes in het parlement. In het deelstaatparlement van Saksen-Anhalt zijn 83 zetels te verdelen. De AfD haalt daar 39 zetels van binnen, net 4 te kort om alleen te kunnen regeren. De CDU moet fors inleveren en houdt nog maar 15 zetels over. De SPD, Die Grüne en Die Linke halen elk 8 zetels, de BSW 5. De verkiezingen hebben ook een heel grote groep mensen naar het stemhokje gelokt. Volgens de eindcijfers is 77,8 procent van de stemgerechtigde kiezers opgedaagd. Dat is de hoogste opkomst in Saksen-Anhalt sinds de eenmaking van Oost- en West-Duitsland in 1990. Bijna 1,7 miljoen mensen waren stemgerechtigd. Ter vergelijking: bij de vorige deelstaatverkiezingen in 2021 bedroeg de opkomst slechts 60,3 procent. "Vijf lettergrepen: ontevredenheid" "De AfD heeft de laatste dagen alles op alles gezet om een absolute meerderheid te behalen. Dat dat niet helemaal gelukt is, zal een klein beetje zuur zijn. Maar het is wel een ongeziene overwinning voor een extreemrechtse partij in Duitsland na de Tweede Wereldoorlog", zegt VRT NWS-journalist Jeroen Reygaert vanuit Duitsland. "Het is nooit gebeurd dat een partij 43 procent haalt bij deelstaatverkiezingen. Zelfs andere partijen raken bij deelstaatverkiezingen amper nog aan 40 procent in het hedendaagse Duitsland. Dat de AfD dit klaarspeelt, bewijst hoe breed die partij in Saksen-Anhalt gedragen wordt". Saksen-Anhalt is niet onmiddellijk de meest bloeiende deelstaat. Waar je ook komt, mensen zijn ontevreden." "Ze vinden het leven te duur, ze vinden energie te duur, ze vinden dat het economisch niet goed gaat. Ze vinden dat ze niets meer mogen zeggen. Pickled tomatoes Ingredients 3 firm tomatoes 1 small white onion 75ml water 150ml white vinegar 37g caster sugar 18g sea salt 2 cloves garlic 6 black peppercorns 1/2 bunch dill Method Slice the tomatoes in half lengthwise, then slice each half into 3 even pieces. Peel and finely slice the onion. To a small saucepan, add the water, vinegar, sugar, salt, garlic and black peppercorns. Place over a medium heat and stir until the sugar and salt have dissolved. To a clean jar, add the tomatoes, sliced onion and dill then pour over the pickling liquid while still warm. Seal the lid and store in the fridge until ready to serve. Best enjoyed after 24 hours.

Op 10 mei werd H.L. tegengehouden op de luchthaven van Zaventem, net op het moment dat hij wilde terugvliegen naar Peking. Sindsdien zit de 52-jarige man, met de Belgische en Chinese nationaliteit in de cel. De verdenkingen tegen hem zijn niet min: spionage, deelname aan een criminele organisatie, misbruik van vennootschapsgoederen, en het onrechtmatig delen van bedrijfsgeheimen. Eigenlijk begint het verhaal nog wat eerder, bij het faillissement van BelGaN in Oudenaarde in de zomer van 2024. "Er werd op zoek gegaan naar bijkomende investeringen. Daarbij werden diverse pistes bewandeld, helaas zonder succes", klonk het toen. 440 werknemers van het ooit bloeiende chipbedrijf vlogen op straat. BelGaN was immers enkele jaren ervoor overgenomen door Chinese investeerders. Speurders vermoeden dat het hen niet te doen was om het bedrijf terug op de rails te krijgen, maar om de bedrijfsgeheimen. Van BelGaN naar Gankool in China De site in Oudenaarde werd meer dan 40 jaar geleden opgericht als het toenmalige MIETEC en groeide uit tot een vlaggenschip van de Vlaamse technologie. Het bedrijf - de laatste industriële chipproducent in ons land - was vooral gespecialiseerd in innovatieve galliumnitride chips . Technologie die vooral gebruikt wordt voor elektrische voertuigen, lucht- en ruimtevaart en in de militaire sector. Foto Belgaimage Toen het bedrijf in slechte papieren kwam, kwam in februari 2022 de aankondiging dat het overgenomen werd door een consortium van Chinese investeerders. De nieuwe CEO van BelGaN, Alan Zhou Zhen, verkondigde dat hij "een kans zag om een GaN-valley in Europa te starten". Foto Belgaimage Opmerkelijk: enkele maanden na de overname in Oudenaarde werd er in de Chinese provincie Fujian Gankool opgericht, een bedrijf dat exact dezelfde technologie produceerde als BelGaN. Gankool werd gefinancieerd door een Chinees investeringsfonds. RTBF en De Standaard ontdekten dat er in maart 2023 bijvoorbeeld een conferentie plaatsvond in China, waarbij H.L. gepresenteerd werd als de directeur van het Chinese bedrijf. Hij zou er keynote-spreker geweest zijn, samen met Alan Zhen Zhou - jawel, de CEO van BelGaN. Het onderzoek wijst mogelijk op het onrechtmatig overmaken van gespecialiseerde intellectuele eigendom en bedrijfsgeheimen omtrent de productie van galliumnitride-chips naar het buitenland Federaal parket Op het LinkedIn-profiel van H.L. staat er evenwel niets vermeld over dat Chinese bedrijf, terwijl zijn loopbaan tot dan wel uit de doeken gedaan wordt. Voor zijn aanstelling bij BelGaN werkte hij bijvoorbeeld ook jarenlang bij een ander vermaard Belgisch technologisch bedrijf. Speurders vermoeden dat H.L. dus de kennis en knowhow van BelGaN overgeheveld heeft naar Gankool. "Het onderzoek wijst mogelijk op het onrechtmatig overmaken van gespecialiseerde intellectuele eigendom en bedrijfsgeheimen omtrent de productie van galliumnitride-chips naar het buitenland." "Er zijn aanwijzingen dat de betrokkene, die een leidinggevende onderzoeksfunctie bekleedde, tegelijk actief was als bestuurder van een Chinese onderneming met een gelijkaardige productieactiviteit", klinkt het bij het parket. Het gerecht is ook nog op zoek naar een 2e verdachte in de zaak, en volgens RTBF en De Standaard is dat Alan Zhen Zhou. Meer nog: in het laatste jaarrapport van Staatsveiligheid wordt er letterlijk voor gewaarschuwd. "China beseft dat het op sommige, zeer specifieke gebieden nog een technologische achterstand heeft tegenover Europa en de VS. Het dichten van die kloof - en het uitbouwen van een strategische voorsprong - is de absolute topprioriteit voor het Chinese regime", klinkt het in het rapport. Een manier om dat te doen is via een 'spiegelbedrijf'. "Chinese bedrijven investeren in Belgische bedrijven, onderzoekscentra of spin-offs, bij voorkeur in kleinere entiteiten die veelbelovende technologieën ontwikkelen, maar met een ontoereikende financiering kampen. Op die manier krijgen ze toegang tot een bepaalde technologie. Vervolgens richten ze een spiegelbedrijf op in China dat dezelfde technologie op grotere schaal gaat produceren. Het moederbedrijf wordt daarna, indien mogelijk met winst, opnieuw van de hand gedaan." Aan de City Swim doet jaarlijks ook een aantal mensen mee die zelf lijden aan ALS. Een van hen is Arjen van de Merwe, oud-wijkagent uit West. Op een bootje is hij vandaag door zijn vrienden van de politie voortgetrokken door de grachten. Arjen van de Merwe kreeg zijn diagnose twee jaar geleden, nadat hij een jaar eerder last kreeg van zijn handen en een trilling in zijn gezicht. "Op het moment dat je dat definitief hoort, dan zakt wel de grond onder je voeten vandaan." Vandaag doet Van de Merwe mee aan de City Swim, samen met zijn vrouw en oude buren. Vanaf de start op de Keizersgracht tot aan de finish op het Marineterrein wordt hij in een bootje voortgetrokken. "Heel tevreden en voldaan", zegt hij na afloop. "En weer met zo'n gevoel dat ik me eigenlijk ook weer een dag geen patiënt heb gevoeld. Echt heel fijn gevoel." Recordopbrengst In totaal zwommen zo'n 3300 mensen mee met de vijftiende editie van de City Swim. Samen haalden ze een recordopbrengst op van 3.007.246 euro. De volledige opbrengst gaat naar onderzoek naar ALS en aanverwante ziekten PLS en PSMA. ALS is een progressieve ziekte waarbij steeds meer spieren uitvallen. Op dit moment is er nog geen medicijn beschikbaar voor mensen met ALS. "Het gekke is, ik voel me helemaal niet ziek. Maar over elke beweging die ik maak, moet ik moet nadenken." Met zijn deelname aan de City Swim hoopt Van de Merwe anderen te laten zien dat een diagnose ALS niet betekent dat het leven direct ophoudt. "Ik hoop dat mensen die net de diagnose hebben gekregen zien dat het niet meteen het einde betekent.
