Het speelt al een paar jaar lang en daardoor zou je misschien zeggen dat het geen nieuws meer is. Maar Amsterdam blijft kampen met een groot afvalprobleem. Vooral als de stad ontwaakt is het op heel veel plekken in de binnenstad een enorme puinhoop, vaak omdat statiegeldjagers 's nachts vuilnisbakken hebben opengebroken. Bijna dagelijks krijgen we bij AT5 mailtjes, appjes of telefoontjes van Amsterdammers die boos, verdrietig of bezorgd melding maken van de troep op straat. En dat is nu de hele wereld hier op visite is voor de World Pride zeker niet iets om trots op te zijn. Ook de Prinsengracht ligt, terwijl er vlakbij gewerkt wordt aan de tribunes voor de Canal Parade, rond 8.30 uur vol afval. "De daklozen of de statiegeld-verzamelaars doen ze open", vertelt een bewoner. "Ze staan ook gewoon open, de gemeente doet ze niet meer op slot. En daarna gaan de meeuwen erin." In de Leidsebuurt, even verderop, is het eerder op de ochtend ook bij meerdere prullenbakken raak. "Ik loop elke ochtend hier naar werk", vertelt iemand die in het centrum werkt. "En het is gewoon een grote vuilnisbelt hier. Dat stoort me wel." Een Amerikaanse toerist vertelt op het Muntplein dat er in San Francisco nieuwe prullenbakken zijn gemaakt om te voorkomen dat er in het afval gegraaid wordt. Ook in Amsterdam worden de afvalbakken aangepast in de hoop dat er minder afval op straat belandt. Er is met een nieuw model afvalbak met een zelfsluitende klep getest, maar een doorontwikkeling van dat model is nog lang niet overal in de stad te zien. In een gemeentelijk stuk werd eerder geschreven dat de eerste 200 stuks aangepaste afvalbakken deze zomer verwacht worden. Die zouden achter het Centraal station, op de Kinkerstraat, bij Station Noord, op het Museumplein, in de Amsterdamse Poort, op het Osdorpplein en in Oostpoort komen. Dat betekent ook dat andere bekende vieze plekken, zoals de Leidsebuurt, grachten en het Rokin, de komende tijd nog de oude prullenbakken die een klep hebben die vaak open blijft staan houden. "Ze hebben geloof ik nieuwe vuilnisbakken in het verschiet, maar ik weet nog niet hoe dit gaat lopen", vertelt iemand die in de buurt van het Leidseplein woont. Ze vindt dat er haast gemaakt moet worden. "Dit ziet er toch niet uit." Mede vanwege het vele afval rond de afvalbakken zijn er elke dag een groot aantal vuilophalers op de been. Dat was vanochtend ook zo, maar de hoeveelheid afval is zo groot dat het op veel plekken in de ochtend nog lange tijd duurt voordat alles is opgeruimd. Working On A Simplex Steam Locomotive - Part #33. Painting the Boiler Backhead with Etch Primer. Although this is designed to etch Steel, it sticks very well to other metals. The Steam Chest Gland adjusters were damaged and I re-machined them. Once the Primer was dry after 24 hours I painted the Backhead Gloss Black. I replaced the Gland Packing with a couple of Steam Grade Silicone O Rings. Toch blijft de Straat van Hormuz grotendeels in Iraanse handen, weigert Teheran zijn nucleaire programma op te geven en breidt het conflict zich uit naar andere delen van het Midden-Oosten. Trump overweegt volgens Amerikaanse media een grote nieuwe aanval. Extra tankvliegtuigen zijn naar Israël gestuurd, bommenwerpers hebben Europese bases verlaten en de Amerikaanse regering vraagt tientallen miljarden dollars extra voor munitie, brandstof en ander militair materiaal. Wanneer waterinstallaties, elektriciteitscentrales of andere civiele infrastructuur bewust worden aangevallen, kan dat mogelijk in strijd zijn met het oorlogsrecht. Een tweede optie is een nieuwe aanval op het Iraanse nucleaire programma. De installaties bij Natanz en Fordow zouden al zwaar zijn beschadigd, maar het ondergrondse complex Pickaxe Mountain lijkt grotendeels intact. Omdat het mogelijk zeer diep in een berg ligt, is het onzeker of zelfs Amerikaanse bunkerdoorborende bommen het kunnen vernietigen. Ook een geslaagde aanval op het nucleaire programma lost niet automatisch het probleem rond de Straat van Hormuz op. Amerikaanse troepen zouden het olie-eiland Kharg of delen van de Iraanse kust kunnen bezetten, maar zo’n operatie zou groot, gevaarlijk en onzeker zijn. Intussen verspreidt het conflict zich naar onder meer Saoedi-Arabië, Jordanië, Koeweit, Jemen en de Rode Zee. Amerika kan Iran nog veel schade toebrengen, maar heeft nog geen duidelijke manier gevonden om zijn militaire overmacht om te zetten in een politieke overwinning. Een massale aanval kan de oorlog verder laten escaleren. It shows part of the era after WWII when Vespa scooters came into their own. Piaggio introduced the lightweight motorscooter in 1946, and Europe, devastated by WWII, and hungry for affordable, efficient transportation, was never the same. The Vespa was also tremendous fun to ride, and Vespa clubs with male and female members formed almost immediately. Audrey Hepburn sent sales of the Vespa on fire in 1952 with her haphazard jaunt through the streets of rome in the classic film 'Roman Holiday'; by 1952, Vespa club membership reached 50,000 worldwide, and things were just getting started. British Vespa club members from Birmingham, South Devon and Holbe Park can be seen having their innocent fun in this montage of early club events: scooter gymkhanas, scooter jousting, scooter acrobatics to name a few, not to mention tons of regalia . In de nieuwbouwwijk de Houthavens in het Westelijk Havengebied is vandaag de laatste gracht gevuld met water. Voor buurtbewoners betekent dat een nieuwe achtertuin. "We hebben drie jaar op een afgegraven zandvlakte gekeken en nu is er het mooie water. Perfect." Tussen het IJ en de lege gracht was tijdelijk een stalen damwand geplaatst. Die zou vandaag met een hijskraan uit de grond worden getrokken, zodat het water de gracht in kon stromen. Maar de damwand bleek muurvast te zitten. "Het is even ploeteren", zegt toezichthouder Bas Flierman van de gemeente Amsterdam. Het baggerbedrijf schakelt daarom over op plan B: een gat zagen in de damwand. Na een kwartier slijpen is het zover. Het water stroomt de laatste gracht van De Houthavens in. Dat gaat sneller dan verwacht. Binnen een uur zijn de grachten rond de laatste eilanden - het Karlskrona-eiland en het Libau-eiland - gevuld. Vooraf was berekend dat het zeker twee dagen zou duren. "Fantastisch, ik vind het spectaculair", zegt een buurtbewoner. Een andere bewoner verheugt zich vooral op zijn nieuwe achtertuin. "We krijgen straks nog een steiger aan ons huis. Op de Nieuwmarkt is gisteravond de Senior Pride gevierd. Honderden 65-plussers kwamen samen voor een avond met muziek, optredens en een drankje. Ook werd stilgestaan bij de strijd die de oudere generatie heeft gevoerd voor LHBTIQ+-rechten. Voor bezoekers is Senior Pride niet alleen een feest, maar ook een moment om te benadrukken dat acceptatie op alle leeftijden belangrijk blijft. “Het is wel nodig dat wij op wat hogere leeftijd geaccepteerd worden”, vertelt een bezoeker. “Jaren geleden, in mijn jonge jaren, vond ik Amsterdam toleranter dan dat het nu is.” Volgens een andere bezoeker is het belangrijk om juist de oudere generatie te blijven erkennen. “We horen erbij. Jong en oud hoort erbij. We eren de generatie voor ons, die het voor ons mogelijk heeft gemaakt.” Ook een andere bezoeker benadrukt die geschiedenis: “We eren de oudjes, op wie de huidige generatie staat. We beseffen niet dat het juist de ouderen zijn geweest die de rechten hebben bevochten.” Voor veel bezoekers is de avond bovenal een gelegenheid om samen te zijn. “Dat mensen gelukkig zijn, daar gaat het toch om? Dat mensen blij zijn, gewoon." Willeke Alberti Een van de optredens waar veel bezoekers naar uitkeken, was dat van Willeke Alberti. Het was vooraf nog even onzeker of ze naar de Nieuwmarkt zou komen, maar uiteindelijk stond ze er. “Ik hoop op Willeke”, vertelde een bezoeker vooraf. Alberti heeft naar eigen zeggen al lange tijd een bijzondere band met een ouder publiek. “Ik heb al jaren met mijn vader gezongen voor zorgcentra. Dat vind ik ook het leukste publiek en het is publiek waar je samen één bent. Dat is nog steeds zo.” Ook de reacties van het publiek doen haar goed. “De warmte die je krijgt, en ze zijn zo trouw.
