The release of the blockbuster biopic of Michael Jackson’s life called ‘Michael’ is now set to cross a billion dollars at the box office. Made with the Jackson estate's approval, it portrays the young Jackson as a kind-hearted, misunderstood genius; bullied by his father and exploited by the music industry. A very different portrayal of the King of Pop however comes out in the bombshell Netflix documentary - released this week - about his 2005 trial for child molestation. The lawyer seen in the clip was Michael Jackson’s defence attorney during his infamous trial - Thomas Mesereau - who convinced the jury to find Jackson Not Guilty on all 14 counts. He didn’t take part in the documentary but agreed to join Uncensored for the first interview since its release. Rural communities in Bolivia demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz seized an oil field in the Santa Cruz region Wednesday, shutting down production. Protesters closed the well valves and erected barriers to slow the advance of the police, with a local leader stating the takeover was nonviolent and decided collectively by Indigenous community members. Police later moved in with riot gear, arresting four people. The oil field action is the latest escalation in a weekslong general strike opposing Paz’s sweeping neoliberal agenda. The unrest began in early May over fuel shortages, rising living costs and austerity measures. Since then, it has left at least five people dead and caused billions of dollars in economic losses. President Paz is proposing a controversial state of exception bill to Bolivia’s Congress to authorize the military to dismantle roadblocks as nationwide protests enter their fifth week.

"Bijna iedere bewoner heeft ervaren dat de lift naar beneden viel. Het doet pijn aan je rug, zorgt ervoor dat je moeder niet meer durft te komen. Het is angstaanjagend en ik snap niet hoe het acceptabel is." The expanded U.S. sanctions have exacerbated the island’s economic crisis, forcing Cubans to live with rolling blackouts, inflation and shortages of basic goods. “The situation there is dire,” says Cuban American historian Ada Ferrer. “It has been for quite some time, and it’s gotten worse and worse over the last five months.” Acknowledging the devastating effects the U.S. embargo has on the island, Ferrer says the Cuban government’s priority “is not the well-being of the Cuban people.” She points out that despite the current deterioration of the industry, Cuba continues to invest in tourism, “ignoring sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, education, health — all of which are in horrible decline.” Ferrer also discusses her new book, Keeper of My Kin: Memoir of an Immigrant Daughter. She spent months following Bovino and the immigration crackdown in the United States for Mother Jones and other outlets. “[Border Patrol] would snipe us with rubber bullets from rooftops by the detention centers,” says Moore. They are protesting the conditions at the jail, including spoiled food that has had maggots in it, overcrowding and inadequate medical care. Detainees are also forced to work for around $1 per day. In retaliation against the strike, guards at Delaney Hall have reportedly beaten participants, and family visitation was temporarily suspended. The strikers are demanding their release from the ICE jail and that the most vulnerable populations are freed first. Detainees' family members, along with immigration advocates and anti-ICE protesters, have been rallying outside Delaney Hall since the strike began. Democracy Now!'s María Taracena was outside Delaney on Tuesday. She spoke to a detainee who had just been released, a community organizer, a lawyer and family members who were waiting to visit their loved ones inside the ICE jail. Police have erected barricades half a mile around Delaney Hall, "making it more and more difficult to go and visit those who are on labor and hunger strike," says Natalie, a New Jersey mutual aid organizer with the group Eyes on ICE. "I was trying to see my father. He recently got put in," says the daughter of a man being held in Delaney Hall. She is struggling to find legal support for her father. Former U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino and white nationalist leader Jared Taylor were VIP guests alongside elected officials from Germany and Spain’s far-right parties. In an interview ahead of the event, Bovino cited Nazi Germany’s lead general, Erwin Rommel, as an inspirational figure. “Remigration is basically the policy response to the 'great replacement' conspiracy theory,” says Charles R. Davis, a journalist based in Vienna, Austria. Bewoners in Zuid en op de Wallen reageren overwegend positief op het besluit van PRO en D66 om de plannen voor een erotisch centrum te schrappen. In plaats van één groot erotisch centrum willen de partijen onderzoeken of meerdere kleinschalige locaties kunnen bijdragen aan het verminderen van de ramen op de Wallen. "Het is helemaal top", zegt een vrouw die met haar hond over de Europaboulevard in Zuid loopt. "Wij vinden hier in Buitenveldert dat het in de stad hoort, waar het al eeuwen zit." Een expat die met zijn dochter een wandeling maakt in de buurt is er ook over te spreken: "Dit is een woonwijk, hier wonen veel families." Het plan voor één groot erotisch centrum moest zorgen voor minder overlast op de Wallen. Toch zijn bewoners die AT5 daar vandaag spreekt ook enthousiast dat het plan niet meer doorgaat. "Ik vind dat we de buren gewoon lekker bij de buren moeten laten", vertelt een vrouw die er woont. "Er zijn andere oplossingen om de overlast van toeristen hier te beperken." Ook komt er geen blowverbod voor toeristen op de Wallen, hoewel daar veel over werd gepraat. PRO en D66 vinden het net als preventief fouilleren geen passend veiligheidsinstrument. Sommige bewoners van de Wallen zijn daar ook over te spreken: "Toeristen moeten gewoon in de coffeeshops kunnen kopen, want anders krijgen straatdealers nog meer vrij spel." Halsema niet verrast Burgemeester Femke Halsema, die zelf wel achter de plannen stond, is niet verrast dat het plan van een erotisch centrum in de stad van tafel is. Dat zegt ze vlak na afloop van de presentatie van het coalitieakkoord vanmorgen tegen AT5. "Dit is een aangekondigd besluit geweest, waar ik me lang op heb kunnen voorbereiden. Ik ben een realist dus ik was niet verbaasd." Tijdens het protest tegen de besparingen bij het Franstalige onderwijs hebben betogers brand gesticht in de buurt van het Brussels Centraal Station. Meer dan 1.000 betogers komen samen in Brussel om te protesteren tegen aangekondigde maatregelen in het Franstalige onderwijs.
