Een van de lastenverzwaringen die vandaag is aangekondigd in het nieuwe coalitieakkoord, is een verhoging van de kosten voor een parkeervergunning. Hoeveel precies en in welke gebieden dat gaat gebeuren, is nog onduidelijk. De gemeente hoopt er uiteindelijk 20 miljoen aan te verdienen. Op straat was er vandaag weinig begrip.  "Geldklopperij", noemt een Amsterdammer op het Bos en Lommerplein het besluit van de nieuwe coalitie om de prijzen te verhogen. "Dat moeten ze echt niet doen. Er zijn mensen die amper rondkomen hier." In het coalitieakkoord schrijven PRO en D66 dat er tot 2050 naar verwachting zo'n kwart miljoen Amsterdammers zullen bijkomen. Zij vrezen dat de auto tegen die tijd de stad zal opslokken en proberen nu met maatregelen Amsterdammers te overtuigen om voor andere vervoersmiddelen te kiezen.  Auto de deur uit? Ook gaat de gemeente 10.000 parkeerplekken verwijderen en wordt de bezoekerskorting verminderd naar 40 procent. Het moet zorgen voor meer ruimte voor recreatie, vergroening en plekken om rustig tijd door te brengen in de stad. Toch lijken Amsterdammers weinig animo te voelen om de auto gedag te zeggen. "Een paard is geen optie, de fiets is te klein. Ik moet een halve ton aan gereedschap sjouwen." Grote verschillen in de stad De prijzen in de stad verschillen nu flink. In sommige delen van het centrum betaal je 677 euro per jaar. In delen van Osdorp, waar sinds 2024 betaald parkeren is ingevoerd, kost een vergunning 80 euro per jaar. Welke prijzen precies verhoogd zullen worden is nu onduidelijk. "Dan moet het openbaar vervoer misschien gratis gemaakt worden", zegt een ander. "Dat kost ook hartstikke veel geld." In het coalitieakkoord staat dat het openbaar vervoer komende vier jaar gratis wordt voor alle kinderen tot 16 jaar. The remaining charges against four of the Broadview 6 were recently dismissed after the case collapsed in court due to widespread prosecutorial misconduct. "This DOJ has completely corrupted the grand jury process," says attorney Chris Parente, who represented one of the Broadview 6. "When they decide that they want to get a political indictment through, they will do whatever it takes, even acting in an unethical way." Parente, himself a former federal prosecutor, says federal prosecutors heavily misrepresented the case and forced an indictment despite the grand jury initially voting against it. What's "even worse," he adds, is the U.S. attorney's subsequent cover-up of the prosecutors' conduct, refusing to release the grand jury transcripts for months and later redacting and withholding full pages from the judge who ordered their release. "As a former federal prosecutor, your job is not to win any case. It's to do the right thing. And I've never seen a case like this, where from the jump they did the wrong thing at every single turn." Pulte is "not somebody who has any of the requisite experience for this incredibly important office," says Matt Platkin, a former attorney general for New Jersey. Pulte is also expected to continue in his other high-level positions as chair of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and chair of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) and director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, where he is accused of abusing his power to pursue political prosecutions against Trump's enemies. We also speak to Harvard Law School professor Nancy Gertner, a retired federal judge, about legal challenges to Trump's mass deportation campaign, particularly involving widespread abuses committed by DHS and ICE. "What we're seeing now is an effort for the courts to catch up to those abuses, and they are. Legislation is going to be needed to make this even more clear," says Gertner. Widely branded as a "slush fund," it was expected to reward President Donald Trump's supporters, including those who attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The fund was announced in May as part of a settlement in Trump's personal lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax data. That case was recently reopened, after dozens of former federal judges filed a motion alleging that Trump's actions were "collusive." As Nancy Gertner, one of the judges who joined the motion, explains, "What happened in this case was, essentially, Trump was suing himself. There was no question that Trump was on both sides of the 'v.'" Gertner and her fellow judges are represented by attorney Matt Platkin, who says, "It is illegal for the president to ask for any IRS audit to be opened or closed. That is a federal crime." Er is een belangrijke stap gezet in de restauratie van de Vondelkerk. Deze week begon de bouw van een tijdelijk dak om de kerk te beschermen tegen neerslag. De kerk werd afgelopen nieuwjaarsnacht door brand verwoest en liep door het vele bluswater extra schade op. Door het tijdelijke dak kan de kerk nu snel drogen, wordt de schade aan het interieur beperkt en is het mogelijk om onder alle weersomstandigheden door te werken aan het herstel. Een persoon staat bij een open raam en kijkt een grote hal in met hoge gewelfde plafonds en gele vloeren. De scène wordt bekeken van achter de persoon en de hal heeft bakstenen muren en glazen panelen. Er zijn twee schermen in de buurt. Paul Morel van Stadsherstel Amsterdam, toont met trots het eerste dakdeel dat over de kerk heen is gebouwd. "Het weegt tonnen, en moet wind, storm, regen en onweer kunnen weerstaan. Het is een enorme investering, maar we kunnen zo de schade beperken, en de aannemer is niet meer afhankelijk van het weer kan zo altijd doorwerken." In de middenruimte van de kerk, de viering, is er een enorme steigerconstructie gebouwd. Daar bovenop ligt nu een vloer waar bovenop de vroegere kantoorruimtes liggen. Van hieruit is goed te zien hoe de gewelven worden gestut, zodat er niks meer naar beneden kan vallen en de ontbrekende delen in de gewelven gerepareerd kunnen worden. Er moet een hoop hersteld worden. Hele stukken zijn verdwenen uit het dak en de gewelven, en ook de ingestorte toren moet worden herbouwd. Wat er nog wel overeind staat van de kerk is flink beschadigd door de brand afgelopen nieuwjaarsnacht. Een dicht netwerk van metalen steigers in een gebouw in aanbouw of renovatie, met houten planken erboven. De steigers vormen een complex raster. Linksonder staat een logo met een rode cirkel en de letter A. D "De schade aan de kerk is niet zozeer van de brand en het roet", vertelt Morel. "Maar van vocht, bluswater en de regen en sneeuw in januari en februari dit jaar. De muren zijn daardoor aangetast en dus is het belangrijk dat we die kerk zo snel mogelijk droog krijgen." De tijdelijke dakconstructie, waaronder het nieuwe kerkdak wordt gebouwd, is ook essentieel om de schade te beperken aan de stenen en muurschilderingen. Morel: "Dat water is diep in de stenen getrokken. Nu het warmer wordt, begint het water te verdampen en dat activeert de zouten, de kristallen in de stenen en dat is die witte laag die je op de stenen ziet. Dat proberen we er af te krijgen door jarenlang iedere keer de muren voorzichtig te stofzuigen, dan komt de rode kleur weer tevoorschijn. Drie gebogen bakstenen deuropeningen bevinden zich in een muur met decoratieve zuilen, geflankeerd door twee mozaïekkunstwerken van engelen die voorwerpen vasthouden. De omgeving lijkt binnenshuis te zijn met bouwmaterialen zichtbaar. De mozaïeken zijn nog intact, daarboven de witte aanslag op het metselwerk - Foto: AT5 De hele restauratie gaat nog jaren duren en kost tegen de 18 miljoen. Via crowdfunding is er inmiddels bijna 370.000 euro opgehaald. De gemeente heeft ook al ruim 4 ton gereserveerd voor het herstel. Inflating a spacecraft in orbit is not an easy task, but NASA had an solution. Echo-1 and Echo-2 were launched as compact payloads, but once in space, benzoic acid gas was released, inflating the thin shell and expanding into giant reflective balloons. But space isn’t exactly gentle, and the balloons were at risk of micrometeorites puncturing their delicate membranes. The solution for Echo-2 was to build it tougher. Mylar was sandwiched between layers of aluminum foil - a surprisingly simple solution for something floating in orbit, trying not to get shredded by space dust.

Het kabinet komt deze maand met plannen voor stikstofreductie en natuurherstel en hoe vergunningverlening weer mogelijk moet worden.  Voor boeren moet er in ieder geval een stikstofplafond komen en er moeten speciale zones komen in beschermde Natura 2000-gebieden.
