Het is de zaak van het koppel Jasper (88) en Annemiek (77), en ze werken er nog dagelijks met heel veel plezier."Het mooiste vind ik dat dit de zaak van mijn ouders was", zegt de trotse Jasper de Vries in zijn bloemenzaak De Lelie op de Witte de Withstraat. In 1985 nam hij samen met zijn vrouw Annemiek de zaak over en deze maand bestaat de winkel 90 jaar. Ze zijn blij dat het is gelukt, zegt Annemiek. In 1975 begon ze als bloemist bij De Lelie en werkt er dus 51 jaar. "Ik denk dat als mijn schoonvader dit had gezien, hij ook trots was geweest. Hij was een lieve man." En daar denken de vaste klanten hetzelfde over. Een van hen komt vandaag langs met haar tante, tevens een vaste klant. Gisteren was ze ook al bij Annemiek en Jasper om orchideeën te halen. "Ik heb nu geen tijd voor koffie Jas", verontschuldigt ze zich. "Ik sta dubbel geparkeerd." "Het zijn supermensen", zegt ze over de bloemisten. "Ze hebben altijd kwaliteitsbloemen. En koffie en gebak, dat krijg je nergens."Alle bloemen worden geselecteerd bij de kweker voor de verkoop, waarbij kwaliteit hoog in het vaandel staat. "Als we naar de kweker gaan, voelt het net als vakantie." En dat is maar goed ook, want het stel is al ruim 40 jaar niet meer op vakantie geweest. Een ander effect is echter dat het de eetlust afremt, en dat is nu ook ontdekt door mensen die helemaal geen diabetes hebben. Zorgen bij diëtisten "Je ziet steeds meer dat er op straat ook reclame voor wordt gemaakt", zegt voorzitter van de Diëtistengroep Amsterdam Raoul Buiter. "En dat terwijl je heel makkelijk een overdosering kan krijgen." Onder de symptomen van zo'n overdosis vallen darmproblemen, maar ook overgeven. Bij een brand in een woning aan de Blankenstraat in het centrum is de bewoonster van het pand om het leven gekomen. De brand brak aan het begin van de ochtend uit. Omliggende woningen moesten vanwege de vlammen worden ontruimd. Rond 05.00 uur kreeg de brandweer de melding van de brand aan de Blankenstraat. Bij aankomst zagen de toegesnelde brandweerlieden de vlammen uit de voorkant van de woning komen. Daardoor schaalde de brandweer snel op naar grote brand, wat betekent dat er meer bluswagens ter plaatse komen. De brand ging gepaard met flinke rookontwikkeling en grote vlammen. Omliggende woningen werden daarom ontruimd. Ook raadde de brandweer omwonenden aan om ramen en deuren gesloten te houden vanwege de rook. Een uur nadat de brandweer de melding kreeg, was de brand onder controle. De vrouw werd aangetroffen in de woning. De oorzaak van de brand is nog niet duidelijk. Ze zitten weken in de gevangenis, maar na onderzoek worden ze door de rechtbank vrijgesproken. Het blijkt dat hun zoon alles zonder medeweten van zijn ouders heeft opgeborgen in hun woonwagen. Toch besluit de gemeente nu dat ze niet meer in hun woonwagen mogen wonen, ondanks de vrijspraak, en dat zorgt voor veel verdriet bij het echtpaar. In een kleine caravan, zonder toilet, wonen Hans en Dieneke inmiddels al een jaar. Ze zijn de wanhoop nabij en missen hun oude huis. De woonwagen waar de lading verboden goederen werd gevonden, die hun zoon daar zonder hun medeweten had opgeborgen, is namelijk gesloten. "We hebben de hele winter door weer en wind, door regenbuien en vriezen in deze caravan gezeten", vertellen ze. "En dan moet je in de nacht naar buiten, naar een schuurtje van familie om naar de wc te gaan." Machteloos Het echtpaar mag van de gemeente niet terugkeren naar hun woning, omdat de woonwagen op grond van de gemeente staat. Een bittere pil, want dat hadden ze wel verwacht nadat ze door de rechter werden vrijgesproken van betrokkenheid bij de stalling van de verboden spullen. "Je voelt je zo machteloos", aldus het echtpaar. "De papieren liggen er, de vrijspraak ligt er en de zaak van mijn vrouw is geseponeerd." Huiszoeking door politie De aanleiding van deze ingewikkelde situatie is meer dan een jaar geleden, op een avond in april 2025. Hans en Dieneke zijn thuis, als ze zien dat er veel politie aanwezig is bij hun zoon, die in de woonwagen naast die van hun woont. Er vindt op dat moment een doorzoeking plaats, waarna de ouders naar buiten lopen om aan de agenten te vragen wat er aan de hand is. Het wordt voor de politie duidelijk dat zij de ouders zijn van de eigenaar van de woonwagen die ze aan het doorzoeken zijn en vragen of ook de woonwagen van de ouders doorzocht mag worden. Ze laten de agenten binnen en bieden ze zelfs koffie aan. Al snel worden er automatische wapens en een kilo hennep aangetroffen in de woning, zorgvuldig verstopt in koffers, achter schotten en in kledingkasten. "Ik heb gelijk 6 weken in de gevangenis gezeten", vertelt Achterbergh. "Het is een nachtmerrie, en dat is het nog." Vrijspraak Hun zoon verklaart dat hij de spullen zonder medeweten van zijn ouders in hun woning heeft geplaatst. Meerdere rechters buigen zich over de zaak en spreken Hans en Dieneke uiteindelijk vrij. "Toen mocht ik naar huis", blikt Dieneke terug. "Toen mocht ik nog in mijn woonwagen. En toen, tien dagen daarna moest ik eruit, halsoverkop. Diezelfde dag hoorde ik het en om 15.00 uur moest ik eruit." Burgemeester Halsema heeft beide woonwagens gesloten en besluit dat een terugkeer van het echtpaar niet mogelijk is. De gemeente mag namelijk, ondanks de vrijspraak, op grond van privaat- en civielrecht besluiten dat ze een gevaar vormen voor de openbare orde en veiligheid. Protest Het betekent dat het echtpaar strafrechtelijk onschuldig is, maar ze toch hun huis verliezen. Daarom komen ze nu in actie. Ze doen een schriftelijk verzoek aan de gemeenteraad of er een herbeoordeling kan plaatsvinden. Daarnaast hebben ze een officiële demonstratie aangekondigd en protestborden geplaatst bij hun oude woning. "Je moet hoop houden", geven ze aan. "Anders red je het niet, maar het is heel moeilijk." De gemeente zegt dat het om een uitzonderlijke situatie gaat waarin de gemeente als grondeigenaar betrokken is.
