Working On A Simplex Steam Locomotive - Part #31. Making new pins for the Crossheads to replace the worn ones. I am using Silver Steel because it is accurately ground. It also wears very well and can even be hardened. Once machined and threaded 2BA, the parts were bolted to the Crosshead Covers. I fitted the Return Cranks and tested the engine using Compressed Air. https://www.patreon.com/keithappleton IF YOU ENJOY WATCHING THESE DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS THAT I PRODUCE TO HELP BEGINNERS TO THE HOBBY, THEN PLEASE BECOME A PATRON OF MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL VIA "PATREON" AND ALLOW ME THE TIME TO MAKE EVEN MORE OF THESE SPECIALIST AND HIGHLY DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS. The Columbia River starts in the Rocky Mountains, near the Continental Divide. It was first explored by Lewis and Clark , who followed the river to its mouth on the Pacific Ocean by 1805. 0:42 The river is fed by glacier streams and waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies. It officially begins at Columbia Lake between the Canadian Rockies and the Selkirk Mountains. Other streams join to form the largest river on the Pacific coast. 1:17 The river flows southwest through Washington. Its largest tributary is the Snake River , which was the route Lewis and Clark took to reach the Columbia. Other major tributaries mentioned are the Kootenay and Clark Fork rivers. 2:04 The river basin suffered from years of flooding and times of drought. Early farmers relied on rainfall, which was often insufficient or came at the wrong time, leading many to abandon their land and crops. The irony was that the huge river basin had to be "protected from its own river." 3:24 The U.S. began constructive work in 1933, culminating in the Grand Coulee Dam, described as the largest concrete dam in the world (550 ft high). Its primary jobs are: 1) Pumping irrigation water 280 ft up from Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake (the reservoir); and 2) generating hydroelectric power via torrents of water rushing through the turbines. 4:54 Electricity from the dam is used to power the pumps that regulate the basin's irrigation systems. Ditch riders travel the canals daily to account for water usage. This irrigation has enabled over 200,000 people to make a living from the land, farming crops like onions, potatoes, beans, and sugar beets. 5:59 Downstream is the Bonneville Dam. The film highlights the importance of fish ladders in helping salmon swim upstream from the ocean to lay eggs in freshwater lakes and streams. Conservation programs assure the continuation of the salmon population, with millions leaving the sea annually from May to October. 7:32 During WWII, electricity from Bonneville and Grand Coulee Dams made the Hanford Atomic Works possible. The facility uses uranium rods inserted into piles by automatic machinery governed by remote control. Heavy concrete walls and water shield workers from the hazardous radiation. 8:34 McNary Dam as an example of how the dam system along the Columbia makes economical inland waterway transportation possible. Large cargo ferry boats navigate the river through a series of carefully designed locks and canals. 9:58 The vast forests are raised like crops, cut, and replanted for a continuous source of lumber. The logs are trucked from the forest to the river, then towed downstream to mills for processing. 12:18 The rivers provide inexpensive trade routes for barge traffic, and seagoing traffic from the Pacific Ocean can travel the Columbia as far as Portland . 13:03 Washington's Wenatchee-Okanogan District, supplies one-third of the nation's apple market. 13:46 Portland is located where the Columbia meets the Willamette River. 15:07 Portland, Oregon's modern port. 15:49 Nearly one-third of the Columbia's flow comes from Canada. At the lower end of Arrow Lake, a new series of Canadian dams is under construction that will regulate the river's flow, bringing an end to the annual threat of devastating flood damage in British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, and developing the full potential of the Columbia River. This episode (not complete) is specifically answering the question of how an orange gets its juice. Takes young viewers inside a citrus processing and packaging plant to show how oranges are harvested, washed, industrially squeezed, and packaged into cartons. Created by Frank Buxton and co-produced by Peanuts animator Lee Mendelson, "Hot Dog" was affectionately known as a "program about stuff". The concept was inspired by Buxton's travels visiting various factories and was designed to answer kids' questions about the mechanics behind everyday objects. The show used a creative mix of upbeat cinematography, live-action factory tours, and a groovy soundtrack provided by the American rock band The Youngbloods. Roger Penrose answers audience questions on Conformal Cyclic Cosmology, the multiverse and the most important thing he has learnt in physics. What would you ask Roger if you had the chance? With a free trial, you can watch Roger and Brian in conversation NOW at https://iai.tv/video/our-future-theories-of-the-universe?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description From the Big Bang to the fabric of spacetime and the nature of consciousness, our core scientific assumptions frame how we understand and perceive reality. But there are many challenges to our current understanding. What if the very foundations of our theories are flawed? Should we reconsider our understanding? And how radically might our view of the universe have to change? Join Roger Penrose, Nobel Prize Laureate and winner of the Wolf prize, in collaboration with Stephen Hawking, with legendary physicist and science communicator, Brian Cox, to explore whether the flaws in our current theories are at some fundamental level insurmountable, or whether they can be extended or changed to overcome these challenges. #cosmology #physics #bigbang Awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on black holes, Roger Penrose is a world-renowned mathematician and physicist. In recent years, he has investigated the relationship between physics and the mind, famously arguing that quantum mechanics plays an essential role in solving the mysteries of human consciousness. Penrose has made numerous appearances on media such as BBC, Closer to Truth, and The Joe Rogan Experience. In 1994, he was knighted for his services to science. Famed for his poetic take on the cosmos, physicist and broadcaster Brian Cox has become one of the world’s most recognizable voices in science communication. A former musician turned particle physicist, Cox has played a key role in major experiments at CERN and the Large Hadron Collider, while also captivating millions through BBC series such as Wonders of the Universe, The Planets, and Forces of Nature. Cox has been showered with praise for his contributions, appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), and is the recipient of the Institute of Physics Kelvin Medal and the Michael Faraday Prize. Beyond his work as a Royal Society professor of physics at the University of Manchester, Cox advocates for public scientific literacy and political responsibility in science funding.

For more than 40 days, thousands of people have been taking to the streets in Tirana, Albania — the biggest protests the country has seen in recent history. Since the end of May, people have been protesting against corruption, demanding political change and fighting for Albania's future. Gen Z is leading the movement, and many are now calling it a revolution. On day 41 of the protests, we met up with Ardesian. He's 26, and he's had enough of Prime Minister Edi Rama's leadership, and he shows us exactly why so many people are out on the streets right now. At the heart of it all: a massive real estate project, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, luxury resorts, a protected nature reserve — and yes, flamingos. We travel with Ardesian to the Narta Lagoon, to Zvernec, and to Sazan Island — the exact locations where these controversial developments are planned. Many fear that one of Albania's most important nature reserves is being sacrificed for luxury tourism. For many protesters, the project has become a symbol of corruption, a lack of transparency, and a political system that mainly benefits investors. So why are flamingos, luxury resorts, and the Trump family sparking protests across an entire country? And what's really behind the biggest demonstrations in Albania's history?
