This might indicate that the unit shown is the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing (37th TFW) which began operations from the base in April 1967. De vader van de Amsterdamse Jesse van Schaik maakt zich grote zorgen sinds zijn dochter afgelopen maandag door Israëlische troepen van een hulpboot richting Gaza is gehaald. Sinds de onderschepping heeft hij geen contact meer met haar gehad. Inmiddels is het wel bekend dat ze naar een haven in Israël is overgebracht. De vloot met activisten die onderweg was naar Gaza om hulpgoederen te brengen, is afgelopen maandag geënterd door het Israëlische leger. Sinds die dag hebben familie en vrienden geen contact meer gehad met Jesse. De activisten konden volgens de organisatie, de Global Sumud Flotilla, geen contact opnemen met hun advocaten en ook werd hun niet de mogelijkheid geboden om consulaire hulp aan te vragen. Op beelden van de livestream van de organisatie is te zien hoe militairen bij meerdere schepen aan boord gaan. Sindsdien heeft niemand meer iets van haar vernomen. Zorgen "Ik maak me echt zorgen", vertelt Frank van Schaik, de vader van Jesse. "Ik ben supertrots op mijn dochter en op wat ze doet, maar het is ook heel naar", zegt hij zichtbaar geëmotioneerd. Zijn zorgen komen deels voort uit eerdere meldingen van geweldsincidenten bij aanhoudingen van activisten die meevoeren richting Gaza. Ook Sam en Max, twee vrienden van Jesse, maken zich zorgen. "Ik heb geen idee wat er allemaal gebeurt", vertelt Sam. Max vult aan: "Ik voel me heel machteloos. Dat zij als burger op internationale wateren is opgepakt, is echt schaamteloos." Ook maakt hij zich zorgen over de behandeling van Jesse in een Israëlische gevangenis. Consequenties Jesse en de andere activisten waren zich waarschijnlijk bewust van het risico dat Israël zou ingrijpen. Ook bij eerdere acties werden schepen onderschept. Augustin shares stories of hardship faced by everyday Cubans who are increasingly forced to go without electricity, drinking water and medical care. And in the latest escalation of the decadeslong U.S. pressure campaign against Cuba's communist government, the Trump administration is expected to unseal an indictment against Raúl Castro, the 94-year-old former president of Cuba, later today. The charges stem from the 1996 shootdown of four pilots with Brothers to the Rescue, the U.S.-based anti-Castro organization formed by Cuban exiles and dissidents. Peter Kornbluh, a Cuba specialist at the National Security Archive, says that the indictment will send "a clear warning" to Cuban leaders and provide justification for a possible future attempt to capture or assassinate Castro. "Military options are on the table and coming soon," says Kornbluh. It came just a day after the department announced the creation of a $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" fund to "compensate" people prosecuted for supposedly political reasons by the Biden and Obama administrations — a move expected to benefit January 6 insurrectionists, other Trump allies and even Trump himself. It's all part of an agreement between the Department of Justice and President Trump's personal attorneys in exchange for Trump dropping a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over leaked tax returns. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche — President Trump's former personal attorney — will appoint the commission overseeing the Justice Department's new fund. "This is dictatorship in action," says reporter David Cay Johnston. He calls the "anti-weaponization" fund "a slush fund to pay a criminal enforcement arm, a violent arm of Trump supporters to intimidate people" and says the order to not investigate the Trump family's dealings "screams that Donald Trump is, in fact, a criminal-level tax cheat." Veertig jaar later gaat de film - met hoofdrolspelers als Frits van de Wereld en Zwarte Joop - vanavond dan eindelijk in première. "De penoze van toen zouden zich omdraaien in hun graf als ze zien hoe de Zeedijk er nu uitziet." We wandelen met filmmakers Arnold-Jan Scheer en Roy Dames over de Zeedijk. Om de paar meter stoppen de mannen om een herinnering op te halen. Bij het oude koffiehuis van Frits van de Wereld blijven we wat langer staan. Dames laat zien dat de ramen van het woonhuis nog steeds van kogelwerend glas zijn. "Frits was een van de grootste penoze uit de buurt. Hij was de eerste die hasj naar Nederland halen. Maar het was ook een onwijs aardige kerel", vertelt hij. Dat de penoze in die tijd ook best aardige kerels waren, blijven de mannen herhalen. "Ze waren echt niet alleen maar crimineel, ze zorgden hier voor elkaar. Ook toen wij hier filmden en ook wel eens beroofd werden, had ik het idee dat we beschermd werden door Frits van de Wereld. Ook gaf hij verslaafden, zoals Petertje Zwart, wel eens een tientje. Dan hadden ze ten minste een fijn half uurtje, zei hij dan." De heren vertellen hoe ze het Wallengebied de afgelopen veertig jaar hebben zien veranderen. Van een ruige straat, vol junks en dichtgetimmerde panden, tot de rustige straat die het nu is. "Ik denk dat de oude penoze zich nu zouden omdraaien in hun graf", lacht Dames. "Het ziet er natuurlijk hartstikke mooi en fraai uit, maar het was zo'n andere tijd. Alles kon en alles mocht. Nu is het een brave, mooie straat geworden. Saai, als je het mij vraagt." DBij een bedrijfspand in Diemen is vanochtend een grote brand uitgebroken. De rook is vanuit veel plekken in de stad te zien. Volg hier de laatste ontwikkelingen. Bij de brand zijn mogelijk zonnepanelen betrokken. "Daardoor kunnen roet, brokstukken en scherpe zonnecelscherven in de omgeving terechtkomen. Wees alert op scherven", laat de brandweer weten. Bij het dak van een bedrijfspand op de Weesperstraat in Diemen is vanochtend een grote brand uitgebroken. Daarbij is niemand gewond geraakt. De brandweer is nog bezig met blussen. Het vuur is afgelopen half uur volgens een woordvoerder van de brandweer heviger geworden. Daarom is er in de omgeving een NL-Alert verstuurd. De brand ontstond iets voor 10.00 uur. Binnen tien minuten schaalde de brandweer op naar 'middelbrand' en kort daarna gaf de brandweer het sein 'grote brand' uit. Dat betekent dat er meerdere eenheden vanuit omliggende kazernes worden opgeroepen. Zo zijn er naast brandweerwagens uit Diemen, ook eenheden opgeroepen uit Amstelveen en Uithoorn. In De Straten van Amsterdam trekt AT5 de stad in op zoek naar bijzondere verhalen van Amsterdammers uit alle hoeken van de stad. Deze week gaan we op bezoek bij de trams van de Lekstraat en rijden we mee met de gezelligste conducteur van de stad. In het conducteurshokje treffen we niemand minder dan Rob, die viraal ging omdat hij met kerst het heft in eigen hand nam toen de kerstmuziek in de tram ermee ophield. Hij besloot dan maar zelf zijn kerst-oeuvre ten gehore te brengen. Dat dit op het internet massaal werd opgepikt had Rob zelf niet zo door: “Mijn dochter belde me op en zei: ‘pap, je bent viraal’. Ik zei: ‘wat is dat?’ Nou dat dus.” Sindsdien is Rob niet meer opgehouden met zingen, en dat is onderdeel van zijn missie om het leven van tramreizigers een beetje mooier te maken: “Dat is mijn missie: een beetje verbinding, een beetje meer praten met elkaar. Het Openbaar Ministerie eist een celstraf van twee jaar voor de minderjarige verdachte voor het doodschieten van Rivaldo (17) in Zuidoost. Het is de hoogst mogelijke straf in het jeugdstrafrecht. Volgens justitie was een kettingroof de aanleiding van de dodelijke schietpartij in Zuidoost. Begin augustus vorig jaar ging het gruwelijk mis bij het voetbalveldje in Zuidoost. De 17-jarige Rivaldo werd toen doodgeschoten, volgens justitie door een jongen die destijds 16 jaar oud was. "Op de bewuste avond krijgt de politie rond half tien ’s avonds meerdere meldingen binnen dat er bij een voetbalveld aan de Meernhof een schietpartij heeft plaatsgevonden.", zo schrijft het Openbaar Ministerie in een verklaring. Rivaldo werd overbracht naar het ziekenhuis, maar overleed later die nacht aan zijn verwondingen. Kettingroof "Uit onderzoek blijkt dat er ongeveer een uur voorafgaand aan het schietincident een beroving heeft plaatsgevonden. De verdachte zou samen met een vriend op een fatbike een vriend van het slachtoffer van zijn ketting hebben beroofd. Sinds een paar maanden bivakkeert een dakloos stel op de Kloveniersburgwal. Ze hebben daar een tentje gemaakt om in te overnachten. De gemeente heeft contact met hen gelegd, maar wil niets zeggen over hun achtergrond.
