Maar elk nadeel heeft z’n voordeel: de Volendammers vinden het hartstikke leuk dat Ajax in hun dorp speelt. Het verhaal is inmiddels bekend: door de concertreeks van Harry Styles moet Ajax elders de play-offs spelen. En dus wijkt de club uit naar het Kras Stadion in Volendam. “Ik vind het leuk dat Ajax hier komt”, vertelt een Volendamse winkelier. Een andere vrouw vult hem aan: “Het is toch feestelijk dat ze hier spelen.” Ook supporters reageren enthousiast. “Het gebeurt niet vaak dat onze grote broer uit Amsterdam hier belangrijke wedstrijden komt spelen”, zegt een fan van zowel FC Volendam als Ajax. 'Ik ben er niet zo blij mee' Joop Leeuwendaal, zanger van de Ajax Marsch en inwoner van Volendam, kijkt er toch anders naar. “Ik ben er eigenlijk niet zo blij mee. Ik vind het echt vreselijk”, zegt hij voor het Kras Stadion. Vooral het spel van Ajax baart hem zorgen. “Ik ben mijn hele leven Ajacied in hart en nieren, maar er zit gewoon geen voetbal in”, zegt Leeuwendaal. Pro-Palestijnse demonstranten hebben sinds vanmiddag twee gebouwen op de campus van de Vrije Universiteit bezet. De universiteit dreigt de politie in te schakelen als demonstranten niet vertrekken. De politie is aanwezig bij de demonstratie. Aan het begin van de middag begon er een pro-Palestina-demonstratie waarin de VU werd opgeroepen om de banden met Israëlische instellingen en defensiegerelateerde samenwerkingen te verbreken. Bij de demonstratie trokken de demonstranten naar binnen bij het BelleVUe-gebouw en ook bij de bestuursgang van de universiteit, waar het College van Bestuur zit. De universiteit heeft twee keer opgeroepen om het protest bij de bestuursgang te verplaatsen naar het campusplein en om de gezichtsbedekkende kleding af te doen, maar daar hebben de demonstranten nog geen gehoor aangegeven. "Er zal nog een laatste vordering plaatsvinden. Als hier opnieuw geen gehoor aan wordt gegeven, kunnen de demonstranten door de politie naar buiten worden begeleid", aldus de VU. De VU zegt de vrijheid van meningsuiting en het recht op protest te respecteren, maar wel 'zolang dit plaatsvindt binnen de geldende huisregels en de veiligheid van studenten, medewerkers en bezoekers niet in gevaar komt'. "Een bezetting van een universiteitsgebouw en het dragen van gezichtsbedekkende kleding vallen daar niet onder." Volgens de universiteit zijn er barricades aangebracht bij het gebouw. Hoofdgebouw afgesloten De VU heeft het hoofdgebouw afgesloten uit voorzorg. Zware pijnstillers als oxycodon en fentanyl zijn via Telegram en WhatsApp zonder recept eenvoudig te bestellen. Zembla onderzoekt de illegale handel in opiaten en laat zien hoe echte medicatie uit de reguliere geneesmiddelenketen op de zwarte markt terechtkomt. Uit undercoveronderzoek blijkt dat dealers via social media op grote schaal zware pijnmedicatie aanbieden, terwijl experts waarschuwen voor de risico’s van verslaving, overdosering en gebruik zonder medische begeleiding. Voor het onderzoek deed Zembla undercover aankopen bij verschillende dealers die actief zijn op Telegram en WhatsApp. Het ging om doosjes en strips oxycodon in uiteenlopende doseringen. Het RIVM onderzocht de aangekochte opiaten en concludeerde dat de medicatie niet afwijkt van geneesmiddelen die via de apotheek verkrijgbaar zijn. Volgens de Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd is een groot deel van de opiaten op de zwarte markt afkomstig uit de reguliere farmaceutische keten. Zembla onderzoekt waarom gebruikers hun pijnstillers op de zwarte markt kopen en welke risico’s de naar schatting ruim 100.000 Nederlanders lopen die jaarlijks zware opiaten zonder recept gebruiken. Ook brengt het onderzoek kwetsbaarheden in de distributie van geneesmiddelen aan het licht. Dealers vertellen dat medicatie afkomstig is uit Nederlandse apotheken en door corrupte medewerkers wordt meegenomen. Andere pijnstillers zouden afkomstig zijn uit afvalstromen van apotheken. Daarnaast stuit Zembla op een zaak binnen het HagaZiekenhuis in Den Haag, waar een anesthesiemedewerker grote hoeveelheden morfine en sufentanil uit medicijnkluizen zou hebben weggenomen. Volgens bronnen kon dit jarenlang plaatsvinden. Het ziekenhuis stelt dat de middelen bedoeld waren voor eigen gebruik en niet voor de zwarte markt. Na vragen van Zembla laat het ziekenhuis weten alsnog aangifte te gaan doen. De Inspectie zegt dat de online handel in opiaten zich steeds meer verplaatst van websites naar social media en onderzoekt momenteel kwetsbaarheden binnen de legale keten. Tegelijkertijd geeft de toezichthouder aan dat het technisch moeilijk is te achterhalen waar aangeboden medicatie precies is ontvreemd. Daarom wil de IGJ meer bevoegdheden krijgen om zelf proefaankopen te kunnen doen met een fictieve identiteit. In deze video onderzoekt Zembla hoe de illegale handel in oxycodon, fentanyl en andere zware pijnstillers werkt, waar de medicijnen vandaan komen en waarom de overheid moeite heeft grip te krijgen op de groeiende zwarte markt van opiaten in Nederland. But increasingly, this assumption is being questioned. A recent study found that two-thirds of academics feel their freedom to teach and study is being curtailed. In 2022 alone, over 1,000 instances of content warnings or text removals were documented across UK universities. While some academics now criticise PhD programmes as a way to extract "fees and cheap labour" from students, reports suggest that most academic papers are read by an average of just ten people. More than half of respondents now say that going to university is not worth it. And in the US, graduate student debt averages over $71,000, while similar information is often freely available online. Should we call time on the age of the university and find new, innovative ways to educate people? Should we leave research and innovation to the business sector and free-market forces? This comes amid reports that Trump's Department of Justice was considering settling the case in exchange for the creation of a $1.7 billion fund to compensate victims of so-called weaponization of the DOJ under the Biden and Obama administrations. Trump allies who participated in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol could file claims and be compensated. "They want a $1.7 billion slush fund, which comes to a million dollars a head in terms of Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, the insurrectionists, with $100 million left over of taxpayer money to spread around in different ways," says Congressmember Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, who spoke with _Democracy Now!_ shortly before news broke of Trump dropping the IRS lawsuit. Raskin last week introduced the Protecting Our Democracy Act, which is geared toward curbing the president's profiteering from public office. "Corruption is the whole purpose of the Trump administration," says Raskin. "It's not like some eccentric peripheral thing; it's a vast money-making operation." The eight-hour lineup featured songs, prayers and remarks by top government officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The event included religious leaders like evangelist Franklin Graham and Cardinal Timothy Dolan. "Nothing was Christian about what we saw yesterday," says Bishop William J. Barber II. "This is idolatry. This is heresy. This is a form of religious nationalism. This is Trump worship. This is trying to make someone a messiah figure." Barber, the president of Repairers of the Breach and founding director of the Yale Center for Public Theology and Public Policy, took part in a counter-event on Sunday called Redirect 250. "This is really a battle for the soul of America," says Sarah Posner, author of Unholy: How White Christian Nationalists Powered the Trump Presidency, and the Devastating Legacy They Left Behind. The Supreme Court has eroded the separation of church and state in recent decades, particularly under President Trump, adds Posner. She also notes that "evangelicals, for decades, have been marinating in Christian Zionist theology and ideology, which holds that, in their view, America has a biblical duty to defend Israel, and in particular defend Israel from aggression, both nuclear and otherwise, from Iran." Ebola causes severe hemorrhagic fever and is often fatal. There's no approved vaccine for the strain of Ebola responsible for the current outbreak, known as the Bundibugyo variant. The WHO said in a statement that the outbreak is potentially much larger "than what is currently being detected and reported." Public health professor and emergency room physician Dr. Craig Spencer, who is an Ebola survivor, says this Ebola outbreak could be the fourth largest in history. "This is going to be a really difficult outbreak to manage and respond to," says Spencer. The ability of healthcare workers to address the outbreak in eastern Congo, "given the violence and conflict, is anything but ideal." Spencer adds that cuts to USAID and the U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization have increased the likelihood for viruses to spread nationally and internationally, citing outbreaks of measles in the U.S. and Ebola and hantavirus abroad. "This is not all just a coincidence," says Spencer. "This is a consequence of us cutting back our support." Bestelbusjes, bakfietsen en kleine elektrische wagentjes. Elke dag zie je wel een voertuig van een bezorgbedrijf door de stad gaan. Dat is ook niet zo gek, want Amsterdam is met maar liefst 125.000 pakketjes per dag echt een pakketstad. Ook onder het AT5-panel is het bestellen van pakketjes populair, maar zes op de tien panelleden vindt dat het bestelgedrag van mensen is doorgeslagen. Dat blijkt uit een onderzoek waar bijna 2000 Amsterdammers aan meewerkten. Meer dan de helft van de panelleden bestelt elke maand een pakketje, en bijna 9 procent doet dat zelfs elke week. Vooral dat er online meer te verkrijgen is dan in de winkel en het gemak spelen een grote rol. De meeste panelleden bestellen online kleding, maar ook elektronica, huishoudelijke apparaten en boeken zijn populair om te bestellen. Opvallend is dat het aantal panelleden dat vindt dat het bestelgedrag is doorgeslagen, nagenoeg gelijk is aan het aantal panelleden die in ieder geval één keer per maand wat online bestelt. Annemieke Bieringa is een van de panelleden die het bestelgedrag te ver vindt gaan. "Het is compleet doorgeslagen. Iedereen bestelt maar, en ook heel erg veel. Dat is waarschijnlijk ook de lol ervan, dat je veel kan bestellen en kan terugsturen. In een winkel kan je niet vijftig kledingstukken passen zonder iets te halen." Panellid Daniël Rommens staat juist aan de andere kant. Hij, en heel wat andere panelleden, zijn van mening dat pakketbezorging de toekomst is. "Het is fijn om een hoop dingen die je normaal in de winkel haalt thuis kan krijgen. Als ik namelijk precies weet wat ik wil hebben, dan vind ik het heel veel moeite om nog naar de winkel te gaan en het daar dan te gaan zoeken." Vooral thuisbezorging Al die pakketjes die worden besteld komen bij de panelleden het liefst thuis op de mat. 64 procent van de panelleden geeft aan meestal voor thuisbezorging te kiezen. Een kwart kiest voor een pakketpunt en ongeveer 5 procent voor een pakketkluis. "Het hele doel van een pakket laten bezorgen is toch het gemak dat het thuisbezorgd wordt?", aldus een van de panelleden. 35 procent van de panelleden geeft het gemak ook aan als voornaamste reden om het thuis te laten bezorgen. Zelf thuis zijn of buren die het pakket kunnen aannemen, worden ook veel genoemd. "Als ik weet wanneer de bezorger komt, dan zorg ik dat ik altijd thuis ben." Een andere reden die veel panelleden geven is dat het pakketpunt te ver is, of de pakketten te zwaar. "Ik bestel voornamelijk kattenvoer, maar die zakken wegen 12 kilo. Dat is is te zwaar om bij een pakketpunt te halen." Dat zo veel mensen maar van alles thuis laten bezorgen, is voor Bieringa niet te begrijpen. "We willen met z'n allen een stad die bruist, maar niemand gaat naar de winkel. Ik vind eigenlijk dat als je iets bestelt wat je ook in de winkel kan halen, dan gewoon naar de winkel moet. Online bestellen is de doodsteek voor lokale ondernemer." Rommens is het daar niet mee eens. "Ik vind niet dat ik voor bijvoorbeeld het bestellen van luiers de lokale ondernemer moet steunen." Wel vindt hij dat het uitmaakt om wat voor soort pakket het gaat. "Ik ben ook muzikant, spullen die ik daarvoor nodig heb, haal ik wel bij de lokale ondernemer in de stad." Te laat of nooit gekomen Over de bezorging van de pakketten is het merendeel van de panelleden redelijk tevreden, maar er is ook echt irritatie. Pakketten die in de centrale hal worden gedumpt of gewoon voor de deur, meldingen dat de pakketten zijn bezorgd maar dat het niet zo is, en bezorgers die niet eens aanbellen, maar meteen kiezen voor het pakketpunt. Het zijn een aantal voorbeelden die vaker worden genoemd door verschillende panelleden. Rommens woont in een gebouw met 150 woningen. In de centrale hal hangt een briefje voor de bezorgers. 'Pakketjes niet in de hal neerleggen', valt erop te lezen. "Er zijn zeker bezorgbedrijven die dat wel gewoon doen en het daar maar neergooien." En dat zorgt voor problemen. "Wij hebben een automatische deur, dus iemand kan makkelijk mee naar binnensluipen. Een dief pakt dan zo twee of drie pakketjes." Het gebouw bij Rommens is niet het enige pand waar dit gebeurt; 16 procent van de panelleden geeft aan dat er weleens een pakket is gestolen. Ook zeggen veel panelleden dat er weleens iets misgaat met de bezorging.
