Flying at supersonic speeds, the aircraft had to meet the shadow at its very leading edge. Pinpoint accuracy was essential, because if they arrived even slightly off timing or position, the opportunity would be lost. By perfectly joining the front of the moving shadow, Concorde effectively extended totality far beyond what was visible from the ground. Een van de omwonenden heeft de twee daders kunnen filmen. Een overbuurman op de Kinkerstraat schrok wakker door een harde knal. "Maar een minuutje later volgde nog een veel hardere. Ik denk dat weinig buren een goede nacht hebben gemaakt", vertelt hij. Hij maakte een video waarop te zien is hoe de twee daders op een scooter springen en hard wegrijden. Een deel van de Jan Pieter Heijestraat en de Kinkerstraat werd vanmorgen afgezet voor onderzoek en uit voorzorg voor mogelijk instortingsgevaar. Boven de winkel zijn veel woningen, die hoefden niet ontruimd te worden. Verschillende ramen van de woningen zijn wel beschadigd door de explosie. Op foto's van vannacht is te zien hoe er een ontstekingsdraad op straat ligt. Deze is volgens een woordvoerder van de politie gebruikt bij de explosie. Een vrouw die even kwam kijken, omdat ze zelf een winkel om de hoek heeft, kan het nog niet geloven. "Ik snap echt niet waarom iemand dit zou doen. Je kan het echt niet maken. Als je ballen hebt, doe je iets anders met je leven, maar blijf van andermans spullen af." Al zes plofkraken dit jaar Er is een opvallende stijging te zien in het aantal plofkraken in de stad. Leading opposition politician and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has refused to recognize the results as legitimate, accusing the Modi government of mass disenfranchisement. Ahead of elections, 9 million names were deleted from the rolls under a process called “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR). The process, conducted by India’s Election Commission, “vitiates and creates an electoral advantage by pitting Hindu voters against Muslim voters,” says political scientist Gilles Verniers. Rather than the advertised purge of deceased and duplicate voters, SIR appears to have primarily affected Muslims and other minorities. Nearly 3 million voters in West Bengal, where more than a quarter of the population is Muslim, were unable to cast their vote. Daardoor is één opstapplek afgesloten en ontstaan langere wachtrijen. Veel reizigers nemen de vertraging voor lief. “Een paar minuutjes extra wachten is niet zo erg”, zegt iemand. Een ander geniet juist van het weer: “Het is lekker weer, dus het is prima.” Toch zorgt de drukte soms voor frustratie, vooral in de spits.
