It highlights the strategic planning, operational challenges, and technological limitations of submarine warfare at the time. HMS Aurochs (P426/S26), was an Amphion-class submarine, built by Vickers Armstrong and launched in 1945 and decommissioned in 1966. 0:00 Main titles. The command structure of a submarine squadron is under the administrative command of a Captain, with operational control from a submarine force commander. 1:04 A briefing officer visits the squadron's base to brief Captain Gray of the Aurochs. 1:52 The squadron commander expresses frustrations about their base's distance from patrol zones, the long travel time, and the lack of a floating dock for maintenance. The briefing officer reveals that the squadron will be moved to a new, closer location to "intensify" their efforts. 3:07 Captain Gray receives his mission orders and a detailed briefing. His patrol area, Area A , is a northern channel used by the enemy, but he is given an alternate area, Area B , if things get too dangerous. 4:57 For the passage out, Aurochs will be escorted for a short period before traveling on the surface alone. "Normaal moet ik altijd werken, maar vandaag heb ik vrij genomen", vertelt een bezoeker die in de zon aan het genieten is. Het eten, de zonnestralen en de muziek zijn een goede setting om te denken aan het verleden, stelt een vrouw die speciaal naar het plein is gekomen. "Het is belangrijk dat onze geschiedenis wordt doorverteld, ook aan onze kinderen." In gesprek Op het Centraal Station is het iets rustiger. Onbekenden worden uitgenodigd om met elkaar een kopje soep te drinken. "Ik geloof erin dat het belangrijk is dat mensen soms worden gedwongen tot een gesprekje", vertelt vrijwilliger Arno. Hij begeleidt de gesprekken over het thema 'vrijheid'.  Een jonge Amsterdammer schrijft een brief aan reizigers die geen tijd hebben voor een gesprek. "Ik heb opgeschreven dat het heel belangrijk is dat we erover blijven praten. in 1926, John Logie Baird built one of the first working television systems. At its heart was a spinning disk with 30 holes arranged in a spiral pattern. As the disk rotated, each hole scanned a different line of an image, breaking it down into a sequence of light and dark signals. These signals were transmitted and used to control a light source on a second synchronized disk at the receiver. As that disk spun in perfect time, it reconstructed the image line by line. The result was a crude, flickering picture, but it proved that moving images could be sent through the air, laying the groundwork for modern television.

The U.S.-Israeli war against Iran and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz have exposed "the real limits of American imperial power," says historian Toby Jones.

Het is inmiddels al vijftien jaar een monotoon beeld op de hoek van de Jan Pieter Heijestraat en de Borgerstraat in de Kinkerbuurt: de meterslange schutting, met daarbinnen een braakliggend stuk grond. Uit protest heeft een nog onbekende kunstenaar een gat gezaagd in de omheining en daar een lijstje omheen gemaakt. "Ze noemen dit het gat van de Kinkerbuurt, dus dat iemand nu een gat in de schutting maakt vind ik wel een logische." Na de sloop van sociale huurwoningen die op de hoek van de Jan Pieter Heijestraat en de Borgerstraat stonden, ligt er al jaren een braakliggend terrein. Toen plannen voor nieuwe woningen niet doorgingen, gaf de gemeente een vergunning af voor een longstay hotel. Alleen daartegen kwam de buurt in verzet. Vele rechtszaken volgden en nog altijd gebeurt er op dat stukje land helemaal niets. Al jaren is Henk van Dijk met zijn actiegroep 'Longstay no way' betrokken bij de buurt en het gat. Hij vindt het goed dat er kritische kunst gemaakt wordt. "Elk verhaal is belangrijk genoeg om verteld te worden, of ik het nu mooi vind of niet. Maar het is wel een belangrijk verhaal om verteld te worden.", aldus Van Dijk. "Kijk alleen naar de titel: blik op incompetentie. En als je naar binnen kijkt dan zie je inderdaad incompetentie." De leegstand is een doorn in het oog van de buurt en passanten hebben wel begrip voor het werk van de kunstenaar. "Het ziet er mooi uit en het is leuk om te zien wat er achter de wand zit", aldus een voorbijganger. Een ander: "Helemaal fantastisch en ik hoop dat de kunstenaar ook een mooie invulling heeft voor in het stukje. Dat zou helemaal fantastisch zijn. Groen in de stad en ook een stukje kunst." Het is goed mogelijk dat er binnenkort meer duidelijk wordt over de toekomst van het gat in de Kinkerbuurt. De juridische procedure loopt al jaren, maar binnenkort volgt een uitspraak in de laatste zaak. Een gemeentewoordvoerder laat in een reactie weten dat de uitspraak op zijn vroegst halverwege mei wordt verwacht en dat daar met belangstelling naar uit wordt gekeken. For decades, cable television companies have paid franchise fees to local municipalities as compensation for use of the public right of way, through which the companies route cables and utilities. Those fees have funded local stations focused on public, educational, and governmental access programming. "As there's migration to digital entertainment and to streaming, there is no local investment — there's no local jobs, there's no local programming," says Michael Max Knobbe, executive director of BronxNet in New York. We also speak with Joe Barr, executive director of Access Sacramento in California, who says the station is "of the community, by the community, for the community." He adds that as the corporate media continues to consolidate, "it really could be a dire situation for getting a broad spectrum of viewpoints." Omwonenden en voorbijgangers melden dat ze onder andere duiven, papegaaien en parkieten vast hebben zien zitten. De netten zijn geplaatst in aanloop naar werkzaamheden voor een toekomstige beeldentuin van het Rijksmuseum. Door een schenking van 60 miljoen euro wordt het gebied opnieuw ingericht. Om te voorkomen dat vogels in de bomen gaan broeden en later worden verstoord door de werkzaamheden, zijn de bomen tijdelijk ingepakt. Meldingen dierenambulance Toch gaat het soms mis. "Ik heb al een duif in deze boom vast zien zitten", zegt een voorbijganger. Een ander noemt het 'zielig' en 'hartstikke stressvol' voor de dieren. “Ze zeggen dat het is om vogels te beschermen, maar dat is nog maar de vraag.” Ook de dierenambulance krijgt meldingen binnen over vogels die verstrikt zitten. Volgens Nadine Pakker van de dierenambulance, is de situatie zorgelijk: "Als vogels zich vrij binnen de netten bewegen, hebben ze nog een kans. Maar zodra ze vast komen te zitten, hebben ze echt hulp nodig om bevrijd te worden." De vraag is of de netten niet beter weggehaald kunnen worden. "Ik zou zeggen dat dat verstandig is", aldus Pakker. “Maar er ligt ook een projectplan en de timing is niet ideaal. In het Carel Willinkplantsoen zijn de afgelopen dagen meerdere vogels vast komen te zitten in netten die om bomen zijn gespannen. Omwonenden en voorbijgangers melden dat ze onder andere duiven, papegaaien en parkieten vast hebben zien zitten. De netten zijn geplaatst in aanloop naar werkzaamheden voor een toekomstige beeldentuin van het Rijksmuseum. Door een schenking van 60 miljoen euro wordt het gebied opnieuw ingericht. Om te voorkomen dat vogels in de bomen gaan broeden en later worden verstoord door de werkzaamheden, zijn de bomen tijdelijk ingepakt. Meldingen dierenambulance Toch gaat het soms mis. "Ik heb al een duif in deze boom vast zien zitten", zegt een voorbijganger. Een ander noemt het 'zielig' en 'hartstikke stressvol' voor de dieren. “Ze zeggen dat het is om vogels te beschermen, maar dat is nog maar de vraag.” Ook de dierenambulance krijgt meldingen binnen over vogels die verstrikt zitten. Volgens Nadine Pakker van de dierenambulance, is de situatie zorgelijk: "Als vogels zich vrij binnen de netten bewegen, hebben ze nog een kans. Maar zodra ze vast komen te zitten, hebben ze echt hulp nodig om bevrijd te worden." De vraag is of de netten niet beter weggehaald kunnen worden. "Ik zou zeggen dat dat verstandig is", aldus Pakker. “Maar er ligt ook een projectplan en de timing is niet ideaal. De netten blijven waarschijnlijk nog tot juli hangen, dus dit kan voor meer vogels een probleem worden.” Reactie Rijksmuseum "Om de vogels te beschermen zijn, in overleg met de gemeente en een ecoloog, tijdelijk netten opgehangen in een aantal bomen. Dit is gedaan om te voorkomen dat vogels er gaan broeden en dat op het moment dat de werkzaamheden aanvangen, zouden worden verstoord. De netten zijn zo ontworpen dat de kans zo klein mogelijk is dat vogels erin verstrikt raken. Wij vinden het heel vervelend dat desondanks een paar vogels verstrikt is geraakt in de netten. We doen er zoveel mogelijk aan om dit te voorkomen. Zo worden de netten dagelijks gecontroleerd, onder andere door een ecoloog.
