Ergens in een kelder van een pand op de drukke Admiraal de Ruijterweg runt Jurian Wijnheijmer een laboratorium vol met paddenstoelen. Vanuit het lab wil de microbioloog de kennis over paddenstoelen verspreiden. Jarenlang kweekte Jurian paddenstoelen vanuit huis, totdat hij een belletje kreeg van Guus Rodermans, de eigenaar van het restaurant boven de kelder. Hij kreeg de kans om het groter aan te pakken en vanuit zijn kelder paddenstoelen te kweken. Tot grote vreugde, want hij is fan van paddenstoelen. "Het is heel bijzonder. Het is geen dier, geen plant. Het is echt iets anders", zegt hij. "Het is inderdaad net kunst. De natuur is de mooiste kunstenaar van iedereen", vertelt hij trots, terwijl hij naar zijn paddenstoelen kijkt. Geen drugslab Op het eerste gezicht voldoet het de ruimte aan alle kenmerken van een drugslab. Jurian moet lachen als we hem dat voorleggen. "Het is niet de eerste keer dat ik dat hoor", zegt hij. "Mensen associëren vaak een lab met drugs." De paddenstoelen worden gekweekt in een speciale tent, waarna ze daarna naar een ruimte gaan waar ze heel veel zuurstof krijgen. Eenmaal volgroeid worden ze geoogst. En sommige zijn dan ook weer te bestellen, boven in het restaurant. In zekere zin is Jurian dan ook de vader van de paddenstoelen. "Ja, zo zie ik het ook. We consider Virginia’s tumultuous rise to wealth and prominence as the so-called “Old Dominion” and one of the largest European settler colonies in the world –from the colony’s dangerous stand in the English Civil War, through the subsequent demographic boom, and the codification of chattel slavery – as all the while, social tensions escalated, with the growing underclass of smallholders and landless laborers chafing against gentry rule. We disentangle how a trade dispute between planters and the Doeg Indian tribe on the Potomac River touched off a massive rebellion that overthrew the royal governor, laid waste to Jamestown and many of the great plantations, and threatened to destroy the English colonial enterprise, before order was restored, and the colony was set on a new path towards becoming a slave society. Als Lieve 18 jaar is, doet ze een DNA-test en daar komt voor het eerst een match uit met biologische familie. Uit de test wordt ook bevestigd dat ze grotendeels van Marokkaanse afkomst is. Het is een doorbraak in de zoektocht van Lieve. Luister hier naar aflevering 5 van De Vondeling: De andere ouders “Dat was wel echt heel bijzonder eigenlijk. Het was voor het eerst dat ik het besef had dat er dus ergens biologische familie van mij is”, vertelt Lieve. Als ze de match ziet op het profiel van My Heritage, weet ze alleen niet direct wat te doen. Ze besluit de hulp van rechercheur Gerard van den Haak in te schakelen. “Als je voor het eerst een achternicht vindt in My Heritage, dan krijg je wel het gevoel dat de sleutel ligt heel dichtbij. Dan word je er ook wel enthousiast van en heb je zoiets van gaan met die banaan.” Alleen de handen van de rechercheur zijn gebonden. Vanwege de verjaringstermijn kan hij geen onderzoek meer doen in de zaak. Hij kan er alleen voor Lieve zijn en haar ondersteunen en dat doet hij. "Het was eigenlijk gewoon alsof ik bij familie langskwam, die ik een tijd niet had gezien" Lieve Via My Heritage leggen ze contact met de match. Het blijkt om een achter-achternicht te gaan. Voor het gemak spreken we alleen even van een achternicht. Ze berichten de vrouw en worden uitgenodigd om langs te komen bij haar en haar man. Samen met haar adoptieouders en Gerard gaat ze langs. “Dat voelde eigenlijk als een soort van film. Het was eigenlijk gewoon alsof ik bij familie langskwam, die ik een tijd niet had gezien”, vertelt Lieve. Er is onverwachts een blik van herkenning tussen Lieve en haar achternicht. “Hele aardige mensen. Ze hadden niet echt een specifieke reden om zich op te geven bij My Heritage. Ze wilde gewoon meer kijken waar ze vandaan kwamen”, vertelt Gerard. Op de vraag wie in de familie een kind te vondeling heeft gelegd, komt dan ook niet direct een antwoord. Wel herkennen ze veel van Lieve haar uiterlijk in de familie. “Ze gaven aan dat ik op een nicht in de familie lijk”, vertelt Lieve. De achternicht weet alleen niet aan welke kant van de familie Lieve verbonden zou zijn. Toch is er een theorie die ze mogelijk acht. “Het zou dan gaan om een soort winkel, waar heel veel vrouwen in dienst waren. Ze kwamen vanuit het buitenland naar Nederland om te werken voor die winkel. Een van die dames zou dan zwanger geraakt kunnen zijn”, vertelt Lieve. De oom van de achternicht zou dan Lieve’s vader kunnen zijn. "Het was eigenlijk gewoon alsof ik bij familie langs kwam, die ik een tijd niet had gezien" Lieve Dat verklaart alleen nog niet waarom Lieve te vondeling is gelegd. “Eigenlijk is het meest simpele om een van die personen te benaderen om te vragen of zij weten van een zwangere vrouw. Alleen dat is gewoon heel lastig om ter sprake te brengen”, vertelt Lieve. “Want stel dat deze theorie klopt van geen kant, dan is er toch iets in de wereld gebracht wat niet klopt.” Zo komt Lieve’s zoektocht weer stil te staan. De cultuur van de familie en het taboe van een vergeten kind, maakt dat de achternicht het lastig vindt om het bespreekbaar te maken. Lieve heeft na 4 jaar nog altijd contact met de achternicht. Ze is op de hoogte van de podcast en steunt Lieve in haar zoektocht. Alleen zijn er geen nieuwe antwoorden gekomen over wie haar ouders zouden kunnen zijn. Al is het niet zo dat ze het idee had dat ze geen familie had. Integendeel. Ze heeft zich altijd gesteund en geliefd gevoeld door haar adoptieouders Dirk en Anita. “Zij zijn de liefste mensen en ik ben zo dankbaar dat ik hier mag zijn. Ik heb nog nooit andere mensen ontmoet die liever zijn dan zij”, vertelt Lieve met tranen in haar ogen. “Dat voelt gewoon als thuis.” In de zoektocht naar de mensen die er wel voor haar waren als opvoeders, moeten we ook nog verder terug in de tijd. Naar de eerste pleeggezinnen waar ze terecht is gekomen. De eerste dagen verblijft ze bij Hylkje en Bart en daarna komt ze in het pleeggezin van Piet en Dingena. Via Facebook vinden we de contactgegevens van Piet en zijn dochter Jooske. Dingena blijkt een aantal jaar geleden al te zijn overleden. Jooske laat weten dat Piet Lieve graag wil ontmoeten en we gaan langs. Het is een emotioneel bezoek. Jooske vertelt: “Ik weet het nog zo goed dat je hier was. Je was zo’n leuke lieve baby.” In de zoektocht naar Lieve’s ouders blijft het stil. Totdat we een nieuw iemand op het spoor komen. Iemand die ons mogelijk verder kan helpen. Een familiedetective. Nochtans is er al jaren veel protest tegen Ventilus van mensen die vrezen voor hun gezondheid. Ventilus loopt dwars door West-Vlaanderen, van Zeebrugge tot Avelgem. Nieuwe hoogspanningslijnen, boven en onder de grond, moeten het netwerk versterken. Toch veel muziek op straat, al grijpt politie soms in: "Ze hebben de vibes verpest". "Ik ben wel door de Jordaan gelopen en op elke hoek speakers uit de ramen of illegale feestjes", liet een van hen weten. Ook zelf kwam AT5 die feesten tegen. Aanwezigen waren zich van geen kwaad bewust. "Dat wist ik eigenlijk niet. Dat heb ik niet gemerkt." Een ander had er begrip voor dat het voor omwonenden misschien vervelend kon zijn, maar: "We kunnen nog wel gewoon een gesprek voeren. Op een festival ga ik nog meer ten onder, dit is lekker rustig." In de Reestraat werd het zo druk dat voorbijgangers in de verdrukking kwamen. Agenten en handhavers kwamen daarom naar een feest en vroegen de dj om te stoppen. Daar was niet iedereen blij mee. "Goed dat ze de vibes hebben verpest, dat is belangrijk, dat is heel goed", zei een bezoeker van het feest cynisch.
