Vandaag is het Koningsdag. Van 13.00 uur tot 16.00 uur deden we live verslag vanaf verschillende plekken in de stad. Van de grachten tot de Jordaan en van Gein tot de Van der Pekbuurt. Verslaggever Daphne Chlimintzas ging naar de Apollolaan en het Vondelpark op zoek naar pareltjes. Frederieke Weel begon in Noord en ontving daarna feestgangers op het Centraal Station. Floris Spaans was in Zuidoost op zoek naar de feestjes en ging daarna naar het Bredewegfestival in Oost. By the 6th century, China had held a monopoly on silk production for over 3,000 years - but that was about to change. During the reign of Justinian I, two monks were sent east on what was essentially an early industrial espionage mission. On their return, they reportedly smuggled silkworm eggs back to Europe hidden inside hollow walking canes. Once the secret was revealed, the Byzantines were able to establish their own silk production, breaking China’s monopoly and turning silk into a major source of wealth and power for the empire.
