De familie Tokkie, bestaande uit Hanna Tokkie, haar ex-man Gerrie Ruijmgaat en haar drie kinderen, woonden aan de Burgemeester van Leeuwenlaan in Slotermeer. De buurt had toendertijd een slecht imago. De familie Ruijmgaart-Tokkie werd in 2003 landelijk bekend door een uit de hand gelopen burenruzie waar AT5 verslag van deed. Zo werden er ruiten ingegooid, en brandde de woning van de bovenburen volledig af. Daarna kregen ze een realityserie op de landelijke tv. De familie was niet schuw richting de media, zo werd er na de burenruzie een documentaire over ze gemaakt. Later kregen ze ook een eigen realityserie op SBS6. In 2024 werd door Prime Video nog een nieuwe documentaire gemaakt, waarin de familie terugblikte op alles wat er de afgelopen 20 jaar gebeurde. Ze hoopten daarmee ook de negatieve lading van hun naam te zuiveren. 'Tokkie' Want de naam Tokkie, en de bijbehorende betekenis, achtervolgde ze jarenlang. Het was een synoniem geworden voor 'asociale mensen', een imago waarmee de familie niet blij was. Zo eisten ze in 2009 nog een schadevergoeding van 50.000 euro van woordenboekuitgever Van Dale, omdat daarin ook een connectie werd gemaakt met 'asociaal gedrag'. Vorig jaar meldde één dakloos geworden moeder met jonge kinderen zich bij Anja Matyjaszczuk van stichting Different Colors. Dit jaar zijn dat er dat, in nog geen vier maanden tijd, al zeven. Officiële cijfers voor dit jaar zijn er nog niet, maar de trend die Anja ziet, sluit aan bij wat er de afgelopen jaren al te zien is: een toenemend aantal dakloze gezinnen in de stad, van wie het merendeel bestaat uit alleenstaande moeders met kinderen. Met haar stichting staat Matyjaszczuk daklozen bij. Zo kunnen ze bijvoorbeeld op de woensdag terecht in het Hushu House in Zuidoost, waar ze kunnen koken voor zichzelf en andere daklozen. "Wij zien hier normaal gesproken vooral veel mannen, maar dit jaar komen er opvallend veel vrouwen naar ons toe", zegt Matyjaszczuk. De verhalen van de vrouwen die bij haar terechtkomen zijn grotendeels vergelijkbaar. Het gaat om vrouwen van Surinaamse afkomst, die kinderen hebben met een man die de Nederlandse nationaliteit bezit. De vrouwen komen naar Nederland, maar raken hier dakloos, bijvoorbeeld omdat de relatie met de vader van hun kinderen niet standhoudt. "De verhalen van alleenstaande moeders die met hun kinderen op straat slapen raken ons diep" woordvoerder gemeente Amsterdam "Na twee maanden werd ik dakloos", vertelt een van de moeders, die anoniem wil blijven. "Ik ben naar verschillende instanties gegaan voor hulp en onderdak, maar ik kreeg te horen dat ik geen binding met Amsterdam heb en dat ik hier pas net ben." Terug naar Suriname Ze zegt dat ze bij die instanties te horen krijgt dat ze terug moet naar Suriname, maar dat ziet ze niet zitten. "Ik heb daar geen ouders, ik heb daar niemand, dus waar begin je?" Een andere moeder vult aan: "Dat is echt geen optie voor mij, want m'n kinderen hebben de Nederlandse nationaliteit en ik ben hier voor een betere toekomst voor hen." Het is ook wat een derde moeder tegen Anja zei. "Daar in Suriname is het erger voor haar dan hier met een kind op straat wonen. Daar is echt armoede", vertelt Anja. "Mijn kinderen hebben de Nederlandse nationaliteit en ik ben hier voor een betere toekomst voor hen" dakloos geworden moeder De gemeente noemt het in een reactie op het verhaal van Matyjaszczuk 'schrijnend' dat kinderen en hun ouders in zulke kwetsbare situaties terechtkomen. "De verhalen van alleenstaande moeders die met hun kinderen op straat slapen, raken ons diep", aldus de woordvoerder van de gemeente, die in een uitgebreide reactie zegt dat het uitgangspunt van de gemeente is, dat gezinnen met minderjarige kinderen niet zonder hulp blijven, maar dat de stijging van het aantal dakloze gezinnen grote uitdagingen met zich meebrengt. Reactie gemeente Amsterdam De verhalen van alleenstaande moeders die met hun kinderen op straat slapen, raken ons diep. Het is schrijnend dat kinderen en hun ouders in zulke kwetsbare situaties terechtkomen. De gemeente begrijpt de zorgen van mevrouw Matyjaszczuk en deelt haar inzet om deze gezinnen te helpen. Elk kind verdient een veilige en stabiele omgeving om in op te groeien, en de gemeente Amsterdam zet zich in om dit te waarborgen. Voor gezinnen die aan de criteria voldoen, biedt de gemeente (ambulante) ondersteuning met (tijdelijke) opvang. Naast de voorzieningen vanuit de Wet maatschappelijke ondersteuning 2015 (Wmo 2015) biedt Amsterdam ook bovenwettelijke voorzieningen aan. Hiermee helpt de gemeente jaarlijks honderden ouders en kinderen die tijdelijk dak- of thuisloos zijn. Toegangscriteria noodopvang gezinnen: Economisch dakloze gezinnen die acuut dakloos zijn en niet kunnen terugvallen op het netwerk of op andere wijze niet zelf kunnen voorzien in onderdak, en waarvan alle leden de afgelopen vier jaar legaal in Amsterdam hebben gewoond. Dit moet blijken uit de Basisregistratie Persoonsgegevens (BRP). Daarnaast worden er gezinnen opgevangen die op de wachtlijst staan voor begeleid thuis met wooncomponent of beschermd verblijf, en geen alternatief hebben ter overbrugging. De gemeente herkent dat het aantal economisch dakloze gezinnen in Amsterdam de afgelopen jaren is gestegen. Het aantal gezinnen dat zich bij de Centrale Toegang heeft gemeld met een hulpvraag is toegenomen van 179 in 2023 naar 269 in 2025. Deze stijging brengt grote uitdagingen met zich mee, onder andere door de beperkte budgetten en de krapte op de woningmarkt. Bewoners maken zich zorgen en zeggen dat ze al meermaals melding hebben gemaakt bij de gemeente. Half maart werd de eerste melding gedaan bij de gemeente. Volgens de bewoners ging het om een kapotte kabel en zou het probleem binnen drie weken worden opgelost. "Na 21 dagen was er nog geen oplossing", zegt omwonende Tiny. "Nu zeggen ze dat het probleem verholpen is. Nou, je ziet het." De frustratie in de buurt neemt alsmaar toe: bewoners en gebruikers van het sportpark zien geen enkele verbetering, terwijl ze eerder nog bericht kregen dat het probleem opgelost zou zijn. "Er sporten hier ook kinderen, en die moeten door het donker op de fiets naar huis" Maar als AT5 op donderdagavond langskomt, blijkt dat dus niet het geval.
