"Er is hier van alles te zien, zoals boeken van vrijheidsstrijder Anton de Kom tot protestborden van de anti-Zwarte Piet demonstratie in Volendam. Kijk, het geel van het ei waarmee de borden bekogeld werden, zit er nog op. Het laat zien dat er hard gestreden is voor gelijkheid." The footage was shot sometimes between 1958-1966, when both locomotives were used for the railroad's steam program, including a train that was dedicated to the CB&Q's connection to Casper, Wyoming. In July 1966, the CB&Q discontinued their steam program, following a rise in insurance costs, a loss of experienced steam-age mechanics, and a change of management. The film was released by Starlake Films of Indiana, and produced by railfans E.L. Sarber and H.C. Trowe. Steam locomotive 5632 was an O-5B class 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive, built in August 1940 by the CB&Q shops. It was used to pull mainline passenger and freight trains before it eventually became famous for pulling a plethora of excursion trains for the CB&Q's steam excursion program. By the time the program ended in 1966, No. 5632 was disassembled for an unfinished overhaul, and was subsequently sold to Chicago area railfan Richard Jensen. The locomotive was moved inside a Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad (C&WI) roundhouse for restoration. In 1969, No. 5632 was evicted from the roundhouse and illegally moved to a scrapyard. Upon entry, the locomotive derailed on a curve, resulting in severe damage. It was scrapped in 1972. Steam locomotive 4960 is still in operation for the Grand Canyon Railway. It is an O-1A class 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive, originally built in August 1923 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW) for the CB&Q. It was exclusively used by the CB&Q to pull freight trains until 1958, when the locomotive pulled its first excursion train, as part of the railroad's steam excursion program. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. De Nieuwmarkt is vanaf vandaag weer het decor voor jaarlijkse Aprilfeesten. Al sinds 1988 is het gratis toegankelijke buurtfestival een plek waar jong en oud samenkomt en geniet van eten en muziek.  De start van het festival begint in ieder geval zonnig. Bram Vollaers, die al vanaf de eerste editie betrokken is bij de Aprilfeesten, is zichtbaar in z'n nopjes.  De Nieuwmarkt ziet de 'zekerheidjes' van de Aprilfeesten ook dit jaar weer terugkeren. Zo staan de zweefmolen, het reuzenrad en de grote muziektent weer op het plein. Juist de herkenbaarheid van het festival zijn de kracht, vindt de organisatie.  Buurt bepaalt In de bijna veertig jaar dat de feesten georganiseerd worden is de insteek altijd hetzelfde. Van de buurt, voor de buurt.  In 1988 ontstond het feest nadat de buurt de Nieuwmarkt wilden opfleuren. In die tijd was het namelijk allesbehalve gezellig rondom het Waaggebouw, dat vervallen en dichtgetimmerd was. Het plein voor het Waaggebouw diende als parkeerplaats. Buurtbewoners stapten daarom naar de gemeente met een voorstel om de auto's te verbannen en een jaarlijks feest in april te organiseren. Een vast onderdeel van de Aprilfeesten is het buurtontbijt. Dat zal dit jaar op zondagochtend zijn. The crackdown by Dane County sheriff's deputies left scores of activists injured; 25 people were arrested. Protesters were attempting to enter a property owned by Ridglan Farms, which agreed last fall to surrender its state breeding license and stop selling dogs to other laboratories by July 1 as part of a deal to avoid prosecution on animal mistreatment charges. A state judge found Ridglan Farms likely broke Wisconsin animal cruelty laws by housing beagles in brutal conditions, performing surgeries without anesthesia, and leaving wounds untreated, along with other violations. The protesters who participated in Saturday's action were "teachers, veterinarians, students, software engineers," says Rebekah Robinson, a Wisconsin resident and longtime animal rights activist who was arrested during the action. "These were ordinary citizens who were trying to help these Ridglan dogs, to go in and take them to safety, get them the veterinary care that they needed.
