The causes of the deaths have varied, but they include at least one homicide. At least 17 people have died in ICE custody since January. "I have never seen anything like this, where I'm seeing ICE reporting out at least one death per week," says Setareh Ghandehari, advocacy director at Detention Watch Network. "People are reaching the point of emergency for issues that could easily be dealt with if proper medical care was given." Ghandehari notes the rising opposition to the Department of Homeland Security's conversion of "former industrial warehouses" into ICE jails. "It's been really inspiring to see people across the country standing up in solidarity with their immigrant neighbors and saying, 'We don't want these types of facilities in our communities,'" says Ghandehari. Bij de egelopvang Midden-Nederland zijn deze week twee zwaargewonde egels binnengebracht, nadat ze vast waren komen te zitten op de lijmplanken. Deze vallen, bedoeld om muizen en ratten te vangen, zijn illegaal en worden gezien als dierenmishandeling.

Marcha zet ons af op een bedrijventerrein aan de Sijsjesbergweg in Holendrecht. Hoewel alle winkels al lang zijn gesloten, is het hier bepaald niet stil. De Passion Ryderz komen hier namelijk samen in hun gepimpte auto's, en dat gaat gepaard met een hoop kabaal! Maar deze carmeet is meer dan scheuren, knallen en revven, het is een hechte gemeenschap. “Het is een gemeenschappelijke passie die we delen met elkaar.” zegt Adesh, één van de oprichters van deze groep en tevens onze gids vanavond. Golfen midden in de stad, tegen een scherm en zonder regen of lidmaatschap. Indoorgolf lijkt in trek. Steeds meer Amsterdammers kiezen voor deze laagdrempelige manier van golfen. Toch is niet iedereen hier blij mee. Marco Knaap van de Nederlandse Vereniging Golfaccommodatie spreekt van een enorme groei: "In Amsterdam gaat het heel hard, dat staat als een paal boven water." Er worden momenteel twee banen bijgebouwd en er zijn nu al drie indoorgolfbanen in de stad. De reden dat het zo populair is, is volgens hem duidelijk: "Het is prijs- en tijdtechnisch interessant. Voor golf is het hartstikke goed, veel jongeren die indoor gaan golfen en daarna naar buiten gaan. Het was een ouwe-lullensport." Ook Ruben is vorig jaar een indoorgolfbaan met restaurant en horeca gestart. Volgens hem is deze vorm van golf toegankelijker: "Je hebt de clubs hier in huis en je hebt geen andere outfit of baanpermissie niet nodig." Buiten of binnen Door de beperkte ruimte in de stad lijken indoorbanen ideaal, maar toch is niet iedereen het daarmee eens. "Ik ga niet naar binnen verplaatsen, voor geen goud", vertelt een vrouw op een golfbaan aan de Sloterweg "Het lijkt me leuk om een keer te kijken hoe dat in de praktijk werkt, maar ik zou het jammer vinden als het ten kostte, gaat van buiten golfen", vertelt een andere bezoeker van de baan. Ruben is het daarmee eens en laat weten: "Binnen golfen is een mooie aanvulling op de buitenbaan. Je kan hier op donderdagavond lekker trainen en dan ben je op zaterdag in topvorm als je ergens negen of acht holes gaat lopen. Ik denk dat het complementair is aan elkaar." De NVG is blij met de komst van de banen: "Hierdoor gaat golf verjongen en we zien dit als voedingsbodem van de toekomst. Victor Pak stelt dat niet alleen Geert Wilders verantwoordelijk is voor het stranden van de asielwetten, maar dat ook Rob Jetten een rol heeft gespeeld. Volgens hem heeft Jetten nagelaten zijn eigen partij in de Eerste Kamer op één lijn te krijgen, terwijl D66 eerder wel bereidheid toonde om strengere maatregelen te steunen. Lieve is 15 jaar oud als er een opvallende tip binnenkomt: na al die jaren heeft iemand zich gemeld. Het is een vrouw, die de handdoek waarin Lieve is gevonden heeft herkend. Op die handdoek staat in sierlijke letters de naam 'Bianca' geborduurd en zij kent 'Bianca'. Het is namelijk haar zus. Zou dit Lieve dan eindelijk dichter bij haar biologische familie brengen? Luister hier naar aflevering 4: 'De DNA-doorbraak'. "Voor een baby'tje is te vondeling gelegd worden, natuurlijk een extreme gebeurtenis", vertelt Anouk Spruit. Ze is kinder- en jeugdpsycholoog bij Basic Trust en gespecialiseerd in mensen die ter adoptie zijn afgestaan en te vondeling zijn gelegd. "Wat je ziet is dat dit effect heeft op de mate waarin kinderen gehechtheidsrelaties aangaan en basisvertrouwen ontwikkelen". Ze kent Lieve zelf niet, maar adviseert in de zoektocht naar haar ouders om de regie bij Lieve te laten. "Dit kan hele grote thema's oproepen en daarin zal zij moeten beslissen wat ze daarmee wil." We keren even terug naar 2018. Als Lieve 15 jaar is, komt er een cruciale tip binnen. "Zij woonde niet in Amsterdam en ook niet in de buurt. Ik dacht toen wel: Wat is dan de relatie met Amsterdam en met jouw zus?", vertelt rechercheur Gerard van den Haak. Hij is degene die de tip binnenkrijgt en direct op onderzoek gaat. De zus vertelt dat haar ex-man een kraam had op de Albert Cuyp en dat ze denkt dat haar zus misschien een verhouding had met hem. "Ze wist me ontzettend veel details te vertellen. Ze herkende ook de combinatie van de wantjes, het baseball-shirtje en de handdoek." Toch kan van den Haak strafrechtelijk gezien niets meer doen, want de zaak is verjaard. Hij besluit binnen de bestaande mogelijkheden onderzoek te doen. Wat iedere gewone burger dus ook kan doen. "Ik heb open bronnen benaderd zoals Facebook en andere socialmediaplatforms." Daar vindt van den Haak een aantal foto's van de kinderen van Bianca. Ze lijken als twee druppels water op Lieve. "Althans, dat vonden wij dan", zegt van den Haak. Ook Lieve ziet veel gelijkenissen. "Ik dacht: Ja, maar daar lijk ik gewoon op". De politie neemt contact op met Bianca en dat is een bijzondere ontmoeting. Van den Haak: "Het was een beetje een verwarde vrouw en ze gaf aan dat ze die kleding wel herkende." Uit het gesprek wordt niet duidelijk of Bianca een kind heeft gekregen. "Ze wist het niet meer zo goed". Een DNA-test is dan ook de enige manier om erachter te komen. Dagen, weken en maanden gaan voorbij.
