Door het tijdsverschil wordt een groot deel 's nachts gespeeld. Normaal gesproken zijn kroegen en bars doordeweeks open tot maximaal 01.00 uur en in het weekend tot uiterlijk 03.00 uur. Een paar zaken hebben een nachtvergunning, waardoor die tot 04.00 uur (doordeweeks) of 05.00 uur (weekenden) open mogen blijven. Maar tijdens WK-wedstrijden mogen ze dus allemaal langer openblijven. De uitzondering geldt niet alleen voor de wedstrijden van Oranje. Kroegen mogen voor alle WK-wedstrijden langer openblijven. Virginia began from a small, undersupplied wooden fort immersed in a brackish and malarial marsh to become, after 30 years, the largest and most valuable colony in North America, pulling in thousands of indentured workers and African slaves each year and pumping out millions of pounds of tobacco. In achieving this shocking metamorphosis, the colonists had to contend with the Powhatan Confederacy, one of the strongest indigenous states in the Americas, which ruled the Tidewater region; and they had to to choose among different forking paths that might have led to an entirely different relationship between Indians and English. We consider the unrealized possible histories that iconic figures like John Smith and Pocahontas came to symbllize, and the reasons why the English backers poured so many resources and human lives into this endeavor of conquest and colonization, ultimately supplanting Powhatan civilization and creating a cash-crop colony. Rahman was never charged with any crime. “They battered Aliya. They assaulted Aliya. They were negligent in their medical care for Aliya,” says Jessica Gingold, one of Rahman’s attorneys. “All of those things are illegal, and this is our tool for making sure that they have to pay for that.” Aliya Rahman was on her way to a doctor’s appointment when her route was blocked by ICE vehicles. Rahman’s window was smashed, and she was violently pulled out of her car. She told the officers she is disabled and autistic, but says they mocked her. Rahman was brought to an ICE jail, where she was denied medical care. She eventually fell unconscious and woke up at a hospital. “My hope is that Americans can see that we have an option that might someday make mass acts of racial violence seem too expensive for these folks, even if they don’t share our values,” says Rahman. The news is being celebrated across the country, but major questions remain over what happens next. President Trump announced the deal between Israel and Lebanon on Thursday. Hezbollah, which is not a party to the agreement, says it will observe the ceasefire. The Israeli military is occupying a large swath of southern Lebanon, about 10% of the country. Early on in the current war, the Israeli military announced the intention to create a “security zone” from the Lebanese-Israeli border all the way to the Litani River, 20 miles north of the border. Many in the country are questioning whether Israel will abide by the ceasefire, says Beirut-based journalist Kareem Chehayeb. Israel continued airstrikes on Thursday right up until the ceasefire took effect, including blowing up the last bridge over the Litani River. “With this kind of military mobilization and this ground invasion of Lebanon, many in Lebanon do fear this could lead to some sort of long-term or even permanent occupation, similar to that from 1982 until the year 2000,” says Chehayeb. Het kleinkind van de neef van Anne Frank heeft in samenwerking met de Anne Frank Stichting een nieuwe documentaireserie gemaakt over het leven van Anne. In acht afleveringen neemt Leyb Elias (28) de kijker mee naar de plekken waar Anne in haar leven is geweest en spreekt hen mensen die strijden tegen haat, discriminatie en antisemitisme. "Het blijft belangrijk dat wij het verhaal van Anne Frank blijven vertellen." Leyb is het kleinkind van Buddy Elias die een volle neef was van Anne Frank. Zij was zijn lievelingsnicht, vertelt Annemarie Bekker van de Anne Frank Stichting. De stichting kwam een tijd geleden op het idee om een serie over Anne Frank speciaal voor jongeren. "We vroegen ons toen af wie deze serie zou kunnen dragen'", zegt Bekker. De stichting kwam toen al gauw uit op Leyb Elias. "Ze was erg geïnteresseerd en wilde direct meedoen." Elias, die in Duitsland werkzaam is als acteur en theaterspeler, bezoekt in de serie 'Anne Frank was here' de plekken waar Anne Frank in haar leven geweest is. "Het was een stressvolle en emotionele tijd. We hebben de nazi-kampen bezocht. En we waren hier in Amsterdam veel op pad, maar ook in Frankfurt en in Basel in ons familiehuis." Diepere boodschap De serie is meer dan alleen een historische reis, legt het kleinkind van Buddy Elias uit. Leyb wil de kijker ook waarschuwen voor discriminatie, haat en antisemitisme. "Ik was het meest onder de indruk van het feit dat er zoveel mensen zijn, die in Anne's naam daar iets tegen doen." "Het is een boodschap van verbinding en dialoog", vervolgt Bekker van de Anne Frank Stichting. "Om een citaat van Anne Frank te gebruiken: niemand hoeft een minuut te wachten om de wereld ten goede te doen komen." Hungary 🇭🇺 has voted opposition leader Péter Magyar in as the new Prime Minister — ending Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule and the dominance of his right-wing Fidesz party. Magyar’s Tisza party didn’t just win — it secured a powerful two-thirds majority in parliament, giving him the mandate to push through sweeping reforms, reshape institutions, and appoint new officials across government. Over the past decade and a half, Orbán transformed Hungary into what he described as an “illiberal democracy”, tightening control over the media, weakening judicial independence, and rolling back democratic standards. Originally launched in 1820 as a Cherokee-class 10-gun brig-sloop of the Royal Navy, the Beagle was later refitted for exploration, with reduced armament and structural modifications to support long survey voyages. She is best known for her second voyage from 1831 to 1836, during which she conducted extensive hydrographic surveys across the globe. On board was Charles Darwin, whose observations during the journey would go on to shape the development of the theory of evolution. Equipped with instruments such as the sextant, chronometer, and azimuth compass, the Beagle could determine its position and direction with remarkable precision, producing charts that remained the standard for decades. Manchurian chicken Ingredients 600g chicken thighs, boneless, skinless 60ml (3 tbsp) soy sauce 1 egg Sea salt and cracked white pepper 500ml neutral oil (peanut, canola) for frying 50g (⅓ cup) plain flour 50g (⅓ cup) cornflour (cornstarch), plus 1 tbsp extra 4 garlic cloves 15g piece fresh ginger 2 Thai green chillies 4 spring onions 40ml (2 tbsp) ketchup 20ml (1 tbsp) chilli sauce 20ml (1 tbsp) rice wine vinegar 120ml chicken stock Steamed rice, to serve Method Step 1: Marinate the chicken Dice the chicken into bite-size cubes, then place in a large bowl. Add 20ml of the soy sauce and the egg. Season with salt and pepper and mix well to combine and completely coat chicken. Set aside for 15 minutes to marinate. Step 2: Cook chicken Heat the oil in a deep wok to 180°C (355°F) over medium-high heat. Add the plain flour and cornflour to the chicken and toss well to coat every piece. Fry the chicken in batches, for 4-5 minutes, until golden. Drain on a wire rack over a tray. Carefully drain off most of the oil from the wok, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Step 3: Cook the sauce Finely grate the garlic and ginger, finely slice the chillies, then slice the spring onions, keeping the white and green parts separated. Place the wok back over high heat. Stir fry the garlic, ginger, chilli and white of the spring onions for 1 minute, tossing. Add the remaining soy sauce, along with the ketchup, chilli sauce, vinegar and stock. Bring to a simmer, stirring. Make a slurry with the extra cornflour and 20ml water, then add to the wok. Stir until the sauce thickens and is glossy. Step 4: Finish and serve Add the cooked chicken to the wok and toss through the sauce. Stir through the spring onion greens and serve immediately on steamed rice. #cooking #chicken #food
