Diesel, benzine, kerosine, lpg en waterstof: al dit soort 'natte bulk' ligt in Amsterdam. De grootste benzinehaven van de wereld. Benzinecomponenten worden hier opgeslagen, gemengd en verhandeld. En dat gaat, ook nu er sprake is van een wereldwijde oliecrisis, gewoon door. "Als je kijkt naar de activiteiten in de haven hebben wij nog niet heel veel gemerkt." In Amsterdam komen benzinecomponenten binnen van raffinaderijen uit heel Europa. Hier in de haven wordt alles opgeslagen, gemengd, en geschikt gemaakt voor alle verschillende afzetmarkten wereldwijd. Amsterdam is de grootste benzinehaven ter wereld. "De totale opslagcapaciteit in onze haven is 6,5 miljoen kubieke meter, en daarvan is ongeveer 4,5 miljoen kubieke meter voor benzine ingericht," zegt Didier de Beaumont, commercieel manager Energie van het havenbedrijf Amsterdam. Straat van Hormuz En dat is veel meer dan we hier nodig hebben, zegt hij erbij. "Zeker in Nederland is er genoeg brandstof." Na aanvallen van Israël en de Verenigde Staten op Iran, sloot Iran de Straat van Hormuz, een belangrijke zeestraat voor de wereldwijde olie- en gashandel. Nog steeds worden er maar mondjesmaat schepen doorgelaten. In de Amsterdamse haven voelen ze het nog niet zo. De Beaumont: "Als je kijkt naar de activiteiten in de haven hebben wij nog niet heel veel gemerkt. Alles loopt gewoon door." Wel ziet hij dat de schepen met benzine vanuit Amsterdam opeens andere richtingen uitvaren. Naar Azië bijvoorbeeld, waar wel een brandstoftekort is. "Normaal gesproken zijn dat niet de markten waar vanuit hier geleverd wordt. Meestal gaat het naar Noord-Amerika, Afrika en zelfs Australië."De brandstof uit de Amsterdamse haven wordt ook dicht bij huis geleverd. Zo is de haven hofleverancier van Schiphol. De Beaumont: "Vanaf de Amsterdamse haven wordt Schiphol ongeveer voor de helft voorzien van de kerosine die de luchthaven nodig heeft." De kerosine wordt via een ondergrondse, 16 kilometer lange pijplijn afgeleverd bij de luchthaven. "Vanuit hier worden ook de tankstations in de omgeving bevoorraad. Je merkt dat, omdat Amsterdam de grootste benzinehaven is, het product hier zo goed beschikbaar is dat ook de marktprijs van de benzine veel minder hard is gestegen dan die van diesel en kerosine." Over benzinetekorten maakt Beaumont zich dus niet echt zorgen, al is het alleen maar vanwege de nog ongebruikte strategische reserves die Nederland heeft. Een deel van die reserves ligt in de Amsterdamse haven. Wel dreigt er een tekort aan diesel en kerosine, dat door Europa wordt geïmporteerd. Beaumont: "Het kan dat er minder diesel binnenkomt op dit moment. Een aantal tankers zijn gewoon halverwege de Atlantische Oceaan omgedraaid en een andere richting opgevaren." En over een dreigend tekort aan kerosine: "Ik zou niet zeggen dat het zomaar kan opraken, maar we zijn in Europa wel geheel afhankelijk van import. Maar de overheid heeft ook nog strategische voorraden kerosine. Jordi van de Bussche, bekend van zijn YouTube-video's onder de naam Kwebbelkop, heeft in een brief aan de gemeenteraad gevraagd of hij met zijn mini-auto tóch op de pont mag. De gemeente kondigde onlangs aan het verbod van brommobielen op de pont te gaan handhaven, maar volgens Van de Bussche is dat niet realistisch. Met de pont duurt de overtocht een kwartier, zonder de pont moet Van de Bussche straks een klein uur rijden om van zijn huis in Noord bij het Centraal Station te komen. "Ik vind het jammer voor mezelf, maar ook voor de 4600 Amsterdammers die hier echt last van gaan krijgen." En dus heeft hij een brief geschreven aan de gemeenteraad om bezwaar te maken en met het verzoek om een uitzondering te maken voor mensen die in Noord wonen of werken. Hij kan wel een paar oplossingen bedenken: een Biro-vak op de pont, of een ontheffing die alleen geldig is in de daluren. "Maar dit slaat nergens op." Verbieden en handhaven Brommobielen waren eigenlijk altijd al verboden op de pont, maar wethouder Van der Horst kondigde in september vorig jaar aan dit verbod ook te gaan handhaven. "De ponten en de pont-aanlandingen worden steeds drukker met voetgangers en fietsers", zei Van der Horst toen. "Ik vind het onverantwoord om tussen al die fietsers en wandelaars, waar ook kinderen en honden tussen staan, zulke grote wagens te laten rijden." Het verbod wordt nu nog niet gehandhaafd. Voorlopig worden er medewerkers ingezet om eigenaren van de mini-auto's te informeren over de nieuwe regels. Wanneer er beboet gaat worden, is nog onduidelijk. Meer dan genoeg plek Van de Bussche kan zich wel voorstellen dat een Biro veel ruimte inneemt, maar volgens de Youtuber houden bakfietsen minstens zoveel plek bezet. "Ik vind het onnozel, er is meer dan genoeg plek." Daarnaast vindt hij het niet passen bij de autoluwe ambities van de stad, omdat de brommobielen juist elektrisch zijn en mensen nu weer 'noodgedwongen hun auto moeten pakken'. De boeten voor mensen met een brommobiel op de pont bedraagt straks 140 euro. Theo zit inmiddels op 817 bakjes en van de lege bakjes maakt hij een heus kunstwerk in zijn woonkamer. "Het is gewoon echt heel erg lekker", zegt Theo terwijl hij zijn salade aan het eten is. Als hij klaar is, wast hij het bakje af en krijgt het een plekje op de enorme piramide van saladebakjes in zijn woonkamer. "Ik hou van verzamelen en van dingen die bij elkaar horen", vertelt Theo terwijl hij kijkt naar het kunstwerk. "En die saladebakjes horen bij elkaar, dus op een gegeven moment dacht ik, daar moet iets mee gebeuren", aldus Theo. Rare vogel Hij kan zich zeker voorstellen dat mensen denken: 'wat een rare vogel', maar hij heeft er toch een andere kijk op. "Als je niet denkt in mooi en bijzonder, dan ik me dat zeker voorstellen. Kijk, voor mij zijn het ook gewoon saladebakjes.
