Trump’s social media posts over Iran zorgden voor spanningen en internationale onrust. Eén bericht kon al grote impact hebben op de situatie. Was dit strategie of pure chaos?

"Het is een zonnige dag voor ons vandaag", zegt eigenaar Caro Onderstal Ottenhof met een glimlach op haar gezicht tussen de gele en rode planten bij de ingang van haar zaak. Het college stemde gisteren in met het plan om woningen te bouwen op een deel van het terrein van het tuincentrum en daarmee is de verhuizing een feit. In 2030 vertrekt de winkel uit Nieuw-West en komt er na circa zeventig jaar een einde aan het iconische tuincentrum in de stad. Ottenhof legt uit dat de keuze om te vertrekken uit de stad op eigen initiatief was. "Een deel van ons land huren wij, en dat gaat herontwikkeld worden en wij kunnen niet zonder dat stuk land, dus toen dachten we als we dan kleiner moeten dat willen we eigenlijk niet". De familie Ottenhof startte in jaar x op het terrein in Nieuw-West met een kleine kwekerij. Waar het bedrijf begon met één dag in de week verkoop van tuinplanten is het anno 2026 uitgegroeid tot een gigantische zaak. De winkel is volgens de eigenaar een van de eerste tuincentra van Nederland.  Teleurgestelde klanten Bezoekers vinden het jammer dat het tuincentrum in 2030 de stad gaat verlaten. "Er gaat een stukje Osdorp weg", zegt een vrouw die al jaren in de zaak komt voor haar bloemen en planten. "Als het in de buurt blijft, maakt het mij niets uit", benadrukt man die samen met zijn vrouw potgrond nodig heeft voor zijn tuin.  Naar welke plek het tuincentrum precies verhuist, wil eigenaar Ottenhof nog niet zeggen. "Het is de intentie om op tien minuutjes fietsafstand te blijven zitten." Volgens ingewijden gaat het om Lijnden, een dorp in de gemeente Haarlemmermeer. Het tuincentrum heeft nog gekeken naar locaties binnen de stad, maar dat was volgens Ottenhof praktisch onmogelijk. He now faces trial for “justifying Russian aggression” — based on a document he wrote that condemns Russia’s invasion. His trial is on 13 May. Waar het Hamerkwartier twintig jaar geleden een vergeten plek was, is het tegenwoordig hét epicentrum van het Amsterdamse nachtleven. Presentator Sammie ontdekt samen met side-kick Daan hoe de nacht in het Hamerkwartier eruitziet. Het gebied blijkt de perfecte trilogie van de nacht te bevatten: uitgaan, pizza én seks. Rauw industriegebied Daan is de enige buurtbewoner van het Gedempte Hamerkanaal, en woont hier ondertussen al 15 jaar. Als buurtbewoner heeft hij de buurt zien veranderen, maar ook helpen veranderen. Wat ooit een rauw industriegebied was waar je ’s avonds wegbleef, is nu een plek waar je juist naartoe gaat. Overdag werkt hij in zijn winkel of in zijn restaurant, maar vanavond neemt hij ons mee de nacht in van het Hamerkwartier. En dat doet hij stijlvol als altijd in zijn limousine. We blikken in de limousine terug op alle veranderingen in het Hamerkwartier, waarna de limo stopt bij een seksclub. Hier geeft Marie een rondleiding door een seksclub voor koppels én singles. Van schandpaal tot seksswing, en ook de privékamers worden uitgebreid besproken. Aan de Sloterweg bij het oude dorp Sloten in Nieuw-West ontstaat wekelijks een berg met grofvuil. De gemeente heeft eind vorig jaar een betonnen bak geplaatst om afvaldumping tegen te gaan, maar volgens bewoners heeft die 'bunker' de situatie alleen maar verslechterd. "Het is bedoeld als oplossing voor het afvalprobleem hier, maar het nodigt eigenlijk alleen maar meer uit." Op de hoek van de Slimmeweg en de Sloterweg vormen een paar blokken opgestapeld beton een tijdelijke dump voor grofvuil. De betonnen constructie is eind vorig jaar geplaatst door de gemeente om het afvalprobleem in het dorp tegen te gaan. Maar, zeggen buurtbewoners, het probleem is alleen maar groter geworden. "Mensen komen helemaal uit Badhoevedorp om hier hun puinhoop weg te gooien." Ook andere inwoners van Sloten zijn niet te spreken over de berg aan grofvuil in hun dorp. Een bewoner: "Het is gewoon fucking ranzig, ik kan niet anders zeggen." En verder: "Wij noemen het hier de Henk Sneevlietweg twee, de bunker twee." Een andere buurtbewoner maakt zich zorgen over de tijdelijke oplossing: "De ratten lopen hier al in het rond en het moet nog zomer worden. We kunnen onze borst nat maken denk ik." Een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Nieuw-West erkent het probleem, maar geeft ook aan dat er hard aan gewerkt wordt. "Op deze locatie ervaren we al langere tijd een probleem met afvaldumpingen, zowel van omwonenden als mensen van buiten het dorp Sloten." Verder laat het stadsdeel weten dat de betonnen constructie nodig is, omdat grofvuil wordt opgehaald met een grote grijper. "De afzetting moet daarom tegen een stootje kunnen." Probleem niet opgelost Verder laat het stadsdeel weten dat ze extra maatregelen nemen en dat het gewenste resultaat nog niet is behaald. "Ondanks extra handhaving, opruimacties door buurtbewoners, overleg met bewoners en verschillende fysieke maatregelen is het probleem nog niet structureel opgelost. De plek zoals deze nu is ingericht is een tussentijdse oplossing en onderdeel van een pilot. Tijdens de pilot doen we extra onderzoek en worden resultaten gemonitord." Long before modern banking was introduced, goldsmiths became the go-to people to trust with your money. In 17th-century London, they stored customers’ gold securely in their vaults and issued handwritten receipts known as promise notes as proof of deposit. But then something interesting started happening. Instead of returning to collect their gold, people began using these notes to pay one another. The paper itself had value because it could be exchanged for gold at any time. Promise notes became the foundation of a new financial system, paving the way for banknotes, credit, and modern banking as we know it today.

Bay Leaf & Vanilla Ice Cream Ingredients 1 vanilla bean 240ml double cream 180ml full cream milk 5 fresh bay leaves Pinch of salt 3 egg yolks 80g caster sugar Method Step 1: Infuse the milk Slice the vanilla bean in half and scrape the seeds. Place the bean and seeds in a medium saucepan with the cream, milk, bay leaves and salt. Place over a medium-low heat and bring just to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Do not allow the mixture to boil. Remove from the heat. Step 2: Prep the custard Whisk the egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl, until pale and thickened. Slowly pour in the milk mixture, whisking constantly, until smooth. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and place over a medium-low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the custard reaches 75°C (167°F) and has thickened slightly. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool completely. Step 3: Strain and freeze Pour the custard through a fine sieve to strain out the solids. Transfer the custard to a Ninja Creami container. Freeze for at least 6 hours, ideally overnight. Step 4: Blend and serve Remove the container from the freezer and place in the Ninja Creami handle. Process as per machine directions until creamy and smooth. Enjoy!
