Burgemeester Femke Halsema heeft met afschuw gereageerd op de toespraak die een demonstrant gisteren gaf op de Dam bij een demonstratie tegen het beleid van Israël. Daar sprak een man over 'de nieuwe nazi's in Israël'. "Ik zou bijna zeggen, jammer dat het toen niet afgemaakt is. (...)." Halsema reageert in Het Gesprek met de Burgemeester op een video die rondgaat. "Ik word hier echt misselijk van. Je hoort hier zuiver antisemitisme. Door dit soort uitspraken te doen verspeel je eigenlijk je recht van vreedzaam protest, vind ik." Op beelden is te horen dat een demonstrant op de Dam spreekt van 'de nieuwe nazi's in Israël'. "Ik zou bijna zeggen, jammer dat het toen niet afgemaakt is. (...) Jammer dat het ooit niet afgemaakt is, want dan zaten we nu niet met dit gezwel." Een politiewoordvoerder laat weten dat er een onderzoek is gestart op basis van de beelden. Agenten konden de woorden gisteren zelf 'niet direct horen'. "We staan in deze zaak in nauw contact met het OM." Een woordvoerder van het Openbaar Ministerie laat hetzelfde weten. "Je kan demonstreren, maar deze vergelijking is onsmakelijk en het ook nog versterkt uiten" Halsema noemt de uitspraken 'stuitend' en 'misbruik van het demonstratierecht.' Ze vindt dat er een vergelijking wordt gemaakt met de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de moord op de Joden. "Je kan alle kritiek hebben op Israël, prima. Je kan demonstreren, maar deze vergelijking is onsmakelijk en het ook nog versterkt uiten. Ik heb wel echt vragen over de organisatie van de demonstratie. Je kan dan niet meer zeggen dat het één individu is die zicht misdraagt, hier heeft iemand een microfoon gekregen. Ik wil echt nadrukkelijk hebben gezegd dat ik het onacceptabel vind." De burgemeester wijst erop dat het Openbaar Ministerie moet beoordelen of de uitspraken strafbaar zijn en of de man vervolgd kan worden. "Waar ik wel over ga, is natuurlijk of deze organisatie bijdraagt aan wanordelijkheden en of wij niet moeten kijken wat dat kan betekenen voor deze organisatie als vertrouwde partner bij het organiseren van demonstraties. Ik wil nagaan of extra regels moet worden gesteld." En: "k vind het ook tegenover andere organisaties die vreedzaam voor de Palestijnen aan het demonstreren zijn worden in diskrediet gebracht. Door dit soort uitspraken te doen verspeel je eigenlijk je recht vind ik van vreedzaam protest. Dit is gewoon echt afschuwelijk." Halsema erkent wel dat het moeilijk is om 'snel' beperkingen op te leggen. "Dat moet je ook niet snel willen. Het kan namelijk zo zijn dat in de massa van een demonstratie één individu uitspraken doet die absoluut niet kunnen, dat wil dan niet zeggen dat de hele demonstratie of de organisatie van de demonstratie niet meer kan. Ze besluit: "Wat ik hier stuitend aan vind, is dat dit versterkt met de microfoon wordt uitgesproken en dan wil ik wel nagaan of wij niet heel ernstig deze organisatie even moeten beoordelen.
