Fresh tomato slices, lettuce shreds and caramelized onions tumble a condiment confetti atop beef patties and soft seeded buns. This commercial compilation peels back the bun on McDonalds’ 1970’s advertisement campaign. Get ready for a salt and savory eye ball and taste bud ooze-fest. Cheeseburger stacks and hot yellow cut fries melt the screen for your viewing pleasure. Advertisements exhibit themes of friendship, nostalgic youth, hot fudge and cherry red sundaes, Egg McMuffin’s and the iconic egg shaped hash brown. McDonald’s has a history of mastery in their advertisement campaigns. Their symbolism is immaculate; primary shades of red evoke feelings of hunger and those bright yellow arches; logged eternally in the American mind can be seen miles wide over the highway or any main drag. In 1970, the marketing team for McDonald's was projecting a specifically it’s all about ‘You’ era. The motto was “You’re the One” and it came with a sweet tuned jingle and plastic bags with primary reds, yellows and “we do it all for you’s” around the handle. Goals were to project sentiments of home, friendship and nostalgic memories of youth as seen in the tin can call between neighbors at (1:33). The decade saw much expansion for the company. McDonalds installed stores in several countries including Costa Rica, Tokyo and Australia. This compilation captures the release of the Townhouse and the iconic hash-brown. 00:00 It opens on the jingle; “You’re the One” and little tikes in green tees equipped with catchers gloves for a 1979 televised commercial (:13). Another advertisement draws on nostalgic dreams of youth, a group of friends entering the front. Coke (:47) gushes from the soda fountain (:49). The 1975 Motto (1:05) follows. Two kids hang on the line between houses for tin can calls (1:33). Phone calls over sundaes (1:39) between friends; caramel, strawberry and hot fudge spill over soft serve custard twirls, “We do it all for you” logos and the sundaes at (1:54). A Chevrolet Chevelle (2:18) and the Empire State Building signify the 1972 New York commercial. It features the first ‘Townhouse’ of Manhattan’s Upper West side (2:27). ‘Townhouse’ separated restaurants from the suburban drive through. Quick and cheap eats delivered with familiar sensations of home; the mottos were “Easy on your budget” and “Come for dinner” (2:47). A 1974 advertisement targets senior consumers (3:11). “Do you have any money left?” is the question and the McDonald’s motto was “where your dollar gets a break” for the penny pinchers (3:38). Red faced kids sing a Christmas jingle (4:00). The 1975 Merry Christmas World commercial featured singers from around the globe. N.H. & S. (4:41) produced commercials for McDonalds (4:41). The 1978 “Sundae Smiles” commercial (4:58) segment highlights the Mickey D’s sundaes. Character Nancy Jordan stars in the 1978 “Camp” commercial (6:32). The mottos were “quality you can taste” (6:39) and “we do it all for you”. The crisp gold crusted salty egg-shaped iconic hash brown gets the limelight in a 1977 commercial release focusing on Mickey D’s breakfast options (7:24). It’s a highlight on breakfast featuring the Egg McMuffin, OJ and flap jacks tumbled by sweet syrup. A 1976 advertisement features a boy named Tony finishing up a hard day at the bat and swinging off for a lean hamburger at a local McDonalds (8:47). A 1977 ad centered around Bill Quigley (9:16). Vanaf 11 mei geldt er een verbod voor fatbikes in het Vondelpark. De eerste twee weken worden er nog waarschuwingen gegeven, maar wie daarna met banden dikker dan zeven centimeter en trapondersteuning het park inrijdt, riskeert een boete. Het fatbikeverbod valt onder een wijziging in de zogenoemde Algemene Plaatselijke Verordening (APV). Volgens diezelfde regeling is de bierfiets verdwenen uit het straatbeeld in de stad. Er was sinds de aankondiging van de plannen door verantwoordelijk wethouder Van der Horst (D66) veel te doen over het verbod op fatbikes. Zo stelde GroenLinks dat 'een bepaalde groep jongeren' mogelijk zou worden gestigmatiseerd. Uiteindelijk is de tekst in de APV aangepast, waarbij woorden als 'intimidatie' en 'achtervolgingen' zijn geschrapt. Ook waren er juridische bezwaren, omdat er wettelijk geen verschil is tussen een fatbike en een e-bike. Eerst waarschuwing, dan boete Uiteindelijk stemden coalitiepartijen PvdA en GroenLinks toch voor het fatbikeverbod. "Er zijn spelende kinderen, wandelaars, hardlopers, mensen die sporten of picknicken of hun hond uitlaten. Daar is geen plek voor snelle, zware fatbikes", stelt Van der Horst. De gemeente plaatst borden bij de ingang van het park verbodsborden voor de fatbikes. Wie toch doorrijdt moet 115 euro aftikken. Voor kinderen tussen twaalf en zestien is de boete nog de helft van de prijs, namelijk 57,50 euro. Wethouder Melanie van der Horst (Verkeer) is blij dat de wetgeving erdoorheen komt. Fietsen met trapondersteuning en banden dikker dan zeven centimeter zullen echt geweerd worden uit het Vondelpark, vertelt ze. "Als het nodig is, zullen boa'sgaan controleren met een meetlint." Uiteindelijk hoopt Van der Horst dat er landelijke wetgeving komt. "We wachten al jarenlang op maatregelen vanuit de landelijke overheid." De komende tijd onderzoekt de gemeente het effect van het fatbikeverbod. Several justices seemed highly skeptical of the administration’s arguments, though a final ruling is not expected for months. “I think the oral arguments went really well for our side,” says Aarti Kohli, the executive director of the Asian Law Caucus and co-counsel in the Supreme Court case. We also speak with Norman Wong, a descendant of Wong Kim Ark, whose landmark 1898 Supreme Court case affirmed birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment. Citing the Bruce Springsteen song, Wong says that being “Born in the U.S.A.” means someone is part of the national community. “We need to stand as Americans together, regardless of color or religion or where we came from,” he says. “We haven’t always gotten it right with all the people here. De Roemeense gouden helm die vorig jaar uit het Drents Museum werd gestolen is terecht. De helm is licht beschadigd, maar kan volledig worden gerestaureerd. De armbanden zijn in perfecte staat, maar de derde armband is nog niet terecht. Ook is niet bekend waar de kunstschatten al die tijd waren.

De video van ratten in de keuken van een restaurant op de Javastraat gaat al dagen rond op sociale media. De Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit deelde de video en sloot de tent. Ondanks dat de buurt het rattenfilmpje maar vies vindt, reageren ze ook niet erg verbaasd. "Het is algemeen bekend dat hier in Oost veel ratten zijn", vertelt een buurtbewoonster van de Javastraat. "Een beetje vies, maar ook erg Amsterdams", laat een andere vrouw weten. Een directe buurman van het restaurant laat weten al langer problemen te hebben: "Heel wat ratten in de tuin en het was daar ook niet opgeruimd. Als buren was dit geen verrassing." De Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit heeft het restaurant direct gesloten. "De ondernemer moet de zaak nu schoonmaken, alle gaten en kieren dichten en een professionele plaagdierenbestrijder inhuren. Als alles op orde is volgt een herinspectie, waarmee wordt bekeken of de zaak weer open kan", aldus een woordvoerder. De NVWA sloot begin dit jaar al 22 zaken vanwege ongedierte in de stad. Bijna de helft van de spoedsluitingen in Nederland waren in Amsterdam. Vandaag wordt de nieuwe gemeenteraad van Amsterdam geïnstalleerd. Veel politici zullen voor het eerst in de nieuwe raadzaal van de Stopera de eed of belofte afleggen, waarna ze officieel raadslid zijn voor de komende vier jaar. Vanwege de installatie is er een Stemming op de Stopera. Acht raadsleden schuiven vanmiddag aan bij Stemming op de Stopera om te vertellen wie ze zijn, welke ambities ze hebben in de raad en hoe ze hun stempel willen gaan drukken op de Amsterdamse politiek. More than 3,000 meatpacking workers in Greeley, Colorado, have been on strike since mid-March, the first major labor strike in the U.S. meatpacking industry since 1985. Workers at JBS USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Brazilian-based multinational JBS, are protesting unfair and dangerous labor conditions, including low wages, lack of personal protective gear and discrimination against its majority-immigrant workforce. “This company is one of the richest companies in the world, and the wage increases that they’re offering simply just don’t keep up with the economy and the high cost of living,” says Kim Cordova, president of the union that represents JBS workers in Greeley. “These workers literally feed America,” adds organizer Caitlyn Clark, director at the labor rights nonprofit Essential Workers for Democracy. “This is really a historic strike. These workers are standing up not just for their own plant, but the meatpacking industry as a whole.”
